Interesting premise in this second installment of the Lakeside Library cozy series, murder at a Wisconsin Northwoods ice fishing derby. Having visited there up there a number of times, I absolutely love this setting and and the "local color" seems authentic to me as well.
Once again, a great plot and recurring characters I've grown to love.
Hoping this outstanding series has a long run. Very highly recommended to people who like cozies.
This is the 2nd book in the Lakeside Library Mystery series. Rain Wilmot has moved to Lofty Pines Wisconsin and growing up she only would be in the summers, however, she has decided to ride out the winter at the lake and keep the Lofty Pines Library which is adjacent to her family’s cabin for the winter. The area is a having a local ice fishing competition and Rain is excited to attend (although she will be solo). Wallace Benson comes into the library looking for a cookbook so he can make some chili for the community “chili dump” and Rain and Wallace have a very nice discussion and she learns his shanty is right on the lake in front of her cabin. On the day of the competition she learns from Julia her best friend and neighbor that her husband Nick is mad at whoever took “his spot” on the lake and that turns out to be Wallace. When Wallace’s wife Tina shows up screaming at Nick and accusing him of being a murderer. Jace (Julia’s brother) is onsite as he was to fish today and tries to calm her down and goes to investigate as does Rain and they discover Wallace dead in his shanty. The police (excluding Jace of course) decide Nick is the one guilty and soon he is in custody and Rain and Julia decide to do everything they can to prove his innocence. On top of this the weather is out of control with snow and when someone messes with Rain’s vehicle and tries to run her off the road then she knows she must be getting close. Also another friend is later found near death in his shanty while Nick is in custody so who is the culprit. Rain is also got a potential romance on her plate with Ryan Wright (the Mr. Right dialogue was very cute) but what about Jace. So do we have a potential love triangle on the horizon. I hope not. This was a good solid mystery although Julia was a bit over the top several times. Looking forward to the next installment. Recommend.
Rain Wilmot has decided to make Northern Wisconsin home for the time being. It's not for the faint of heart, to stay in such a cold area, with far fewer folks wintering over. But her best friends live next door and Rain decides to keep the family library open all winter. The Ice Fishing Jamboree adds in an element of winter fun, until a local, Wallace Benson, is found dead in his icehouse. Could someone have really murdered him over staking out a good spot on the lake? Easily enough, Rain and Julia start to poke around, hoping Julia's husband Nick's proximity to the deceased is all circumstantial. This is only the second book in the series, but I am loving the spot-on descriptions of cabin life and life in the cold North.
How much fun! Long Overdue at the Lakeside Library is very well written with fun and well-crafted characters.
The author makes you feel as if you are right there alongside the characters experiencing everything they are experiencing.
Can't wait to read more by this author!!
Rain Wilmot just needs a cozy fire and a good book in order to enjoy the long winters in Wisconsin. However, when Wallace Benson's body is found dead during the annual ice fishing tournament, Rain must find the killer before her best friend's husband goes down for murder. I really enjoyed this book. The depiction of the cold winter made me want a warm fire and hot tea. The characters were well developed and one could just feel like you were finding the real killer with Rain. I received a copy through Netgalley. A review was not required.
I received this book as an ARC from NetGalley.
NOTE: This is book #2 in a series.
Wisconsin winter has arrived - brrrr!!! Rain Wilmot is working on keeping the shelves stocked and the place warm as winter bears down on the community. The annual Ice Fishing Jamboree is under way, but local Wallace Benson, has been murdered in his fishing hut. The prime suspect is Rain's neighbor and BFF's husband, Nick. Knowing there is no possibility that Nick could have murdered anyone, Rain and Nick's wife, Julia, set out to try to figure out who-dun-it since the police are positive it was Nick.
This book is a cute cozy mystery that keeps you wondering. I hope there are more to come!
Rain Wilmot just wants to coast through winter in Wisconsin working at the Lofty Pines library. Local winter festivities like the annual ice fishing tourney and chili cookoff are ruined though when a local is found dead in his ice shanty. Rain goes fishing for clues to catch a killer and prevent the wrong man from being arrested.
I loved this winter themed cozy! I wish the Lofty Pines library was a real place -- the idea of a log cabin library just sounds so cozy, relaxing and inviting!!! I grew up in the Midwest, but have lived in NC for 20 years, so the winter theme was enjoyable as well. Haven't gone through a "real'' winter in a long, long time. Here in NC they call off school for any amount of snow -- two flakes....no school. It snows once or twice per season and then only a small amount. And it hardly ever gets below 20 degrees. I kinda miss those "real'' winters sometimes....this book made me feel nostalgic for snow measured in feet, ice creeping in the back door, and being snowed in. :)
I enjoy this series. The setting is fun. The characters are hometown-y and engaging. And, there is plenty of amateur sleuthing....plus....log cabin library! :)
I'm definitely onboard for the next book!

This book is the second in the cosy mystery series, Lakeside Library Mystery. Danvers's writing is engaging and intriguing, with mystery and romance wrapped up in the pages. Readers will enjoy this for winter reading, while curled up by a fire with a warm beverage, or in any season.
I love books with characters who work in book related careers and with settings of libraries and bookshops. Danvers' book checks all of the boxes for me, and I will now be following her for more in the series as well as all of her books.

I enjoyed the second book as much as the first. There is something about how the series is written that it feels real and inviting. The friendship between Rain and Julia keeps you coming back for more.
We join Rain and crew during an ice fishing tournament where a local is murdered. Unfortunately, Julia’s husband is on the hook for the murder. Will a brutal start to winter keep Rain and Julia from fishing out the killer?
In my review for book one, Murder at the Lakeside Library, I had hoped for more in Rain’s parents in book two and that did not happen but that was ok. We do have an addition of a romantic interest for Rain and so far he seems steamy hot (when you read the book you will understand why I said this). Does he beat out Jace? Only time will tell.
Both books are perfect curl up by the fire and read until the wee hours of the morning reads.

I was looking forward to a new-to-me cozy mystery set in a library.
I don't DNF books often but the main character and her best friend annoyed me. I couldn't get on board with them showing up at people's houses during snow storms, interrogating library patrons while trying to make everyone a suspect. 30% of the way in and I didn't care who killed the guy at the ice fishing tournament.
*I received an advance copy of this book from NetGalley and the publisher and I am required to disclose that in my review in compliance with federal law.
I really enjoyed the second book in this series! I had felt the previous installment was a little wordy, but this book was much improved. The characters were more dynamic and the plot was more interesting and unusual!
I thought the "star" of the book was Julia. She really came alive this time. Her emotions were all over the place, which is what they should be under the circumstances.
Thank you to NetGalley and Crooked Lane Books for the opportunity to read and provide an honest review of this mystery. I'm looking forward to reading more in this series.
Rain Wilmot has decided to stay full time in Lofty Pines, WI. She runs a community library from her home. She meets Wallace Benson, who soon winds up dead. The neighbor is being framed. Rain tries to figure out who would kill Wallace to clear her neighbor.
I found the concept of the chili dump intriguing but wouldn’t want to try it due to food allergies. Also, the description of ice fishing and the shanties was spot on.
This was a standalone story which I found well written.
I am late posting this review due to no internet access for 2 weeks.
I was given an advanced copy of this book and am not required to give a positive review.
This was a very good read. The story was interesting and moved at a good pace. The main character, Rain, her friend and neighbor, Julia, Julia's husband, Nick, and brother, Jace, and the possible live interest for Rain, Ryan, were all likeable and interesting. The log cabin library sounds like someplace I'd love to visit ... especially with snow falling outside and a warm Franklin stove and some hot tea or coffee to keep me warm while I made my book selections and read a bit. The story revolves around the murder of a library patron who Rain had just met the day before he is killed. Seeing as Julia's husband is the primary suspect, it's up to Rain and Julia to try to find out the identity of the real killer. Things heat up during a blustery Wisconsin snowstorm and danger keeps showing up for Rain and her friends. Will they find the killer before anyone else ends up dead? Read this cozy little cozy mystery and find out!
What a great cozy mystery. Second in the series and it didn’t disappoint. I really enjoy the characters and there was the perfect amount of mystery with a bit of romance thrown in. Can’t wait for the next one. Thanks to NetGalley for the privilege to read and review this book.
I gave Long Overdue at the Lakeside Library by Holly Danvers five stars.
This is the second book in the Lakeside Library Mystery-series and I actually liked this one more than the first one. It was a good mystery including some action filled moments. I had the murderer on my radar all throughout the book but wasn't 100% sure until the end.
What I love most about this book (and the first) are all the characters that you can't help but fall in love with. There are some very good friendships in this book and in the next one I am hoping for more romance since the ending was hinting at that.
I really recommend this book since this is a perfect cozy murder mystery, that will definitely appeal to many.

Long Overdue at the Lakeside Library by Holly Danvers is the 2nd book in a well written, fast-paced cozy mystery series.
I got to meet up with Rain Wilmot again who has moved from Milwaukee and headed for the family cabin in Lofty Pines, Wisconsin, for some relief from her grief and anger, following the death of her husband, Max. She's working in the library that used to be run by her mum, Willow, she has decided to stay through the winter and things seem to be turning out well for her... until a local man, Wallace Benson, is found dead during the annual Ice Fishing Jamboree.
There is a wonderful balance between the mystery versus the friendships and relationships in this series thus far. I was guessing right through the intriguing tale although two particular suspects remained prominent in my mind. I highly recommend this novel to those who enjoy well-written cozy mysteries featuring stormy winter settings and libraries. I am eager for Rain’s next adventure.
I received a complimentary copy of this novel at my request from Crooked Lane via NetGalley and this review is my unbiased opinion.
Charming cozy mystery with fun characters that bring the story line together. Love that it’s based near a lake. There was a few spots where it got boring but the characters kept the reader waiting more
Long Overdue at the Lakeside Library by Holly Danvers is book 2 in the Lakeside Library cozy mystery series and did not disappoint. Librarian Rain Wilmot is ready to enjoy the Wisconsin winter in her log cabin library, surrounded by her books and friends. That is until the body of local Wallace Benson is found and her best friend’s husband is arrested. Rain knows Nick is the murderer so Julia and Rain embark upon their own investigation, putting themselves in some sticky situations.
This is a well-paced cozy mystery and the descriptions of the cold made me cold even though it’s only in the 50s here! I also like that there is just a touch of not one, but two love interests for Rain. I look forward to more in this series! Thank you to @netgalley for the ARC.

“A glowing wood stove, a cozy log cabin, and shelves full of books are all Rain Wilmot needs to ride out the Wisconsin winter, now that she's made her family's Lofty Pines library her year-round home. But the warm-hearted librarian's blood runs cold when local man, Wallace Benson, is found dead during the annual Ice Fishing Jamboree.”
Winter is blowing full force in Lofty Pines and the snow just keeps getting deeper. An ice fishing contest is about to begin when one of the competitors turns up dead. Evidence points to Rain’s best friend’s husband, Nick. Rain has to put on her sleuthing hat in order to clear his name.
This is the second book of the Lakeside Mystery series. Usually, it’s not that difficult for me to begin a series part way through, but this one felt a little off. I think I would have appreciated the characterization of Rain better if I had read the first book and understood her back story with more depth.
I enjoyed the setting since it is winter and I’m always wishing for snow. This is a decent little book and was entertaining, but I do recommend starting with the first installment.

This is book 2 in the Lakeside Library series. It can be read as a stand alone. Rain has decided to stay in Wisconsin and keep the little library open year round for the residents and ski tourist that flock to Lofty Pines. The lake has frozen and the annual fishing contest and Chili dump is coming soon. Wallace Benson stops by the library for a cookbook, he wants to enter the cookoff. When he's found dead in his fishing hut, Rain's friend is arrested for murder. As Rain and the other locals investigate someone isn't happy. I love the idea of a small local library open to the village and this story is a good one. I received a copy of this ARC in exchange for a fair and honest review.
