This second book in the Lakeside Library series is a great cozy mystery. There is an Ice Fishing tournament and the excitement is high in this small community. At least it is until one of the contestants is found murdered. Unwittingly, Rain is drawn into the investigations when her friend is accused of the murder because he was the last one to see the victim alive and they had been arguing previously. It will take all of her sleuthing skills to find the murderer and avoid being the next victim. Though this book is part of a series, it can easily be read as a standalone. Thank you Net Galley for an ARC of this book in exchange for an honest review.

Cute, fun, quick cozy mystery! I really liked the library setting and the winter time in Wisconsin led to lots of cozy scenes of sitting by the fire with tea while it snows. The mystery was interesting and definitely had me invested until the end. The dialogue was a little over the top and too much for me—even for a cozy mystery where it’s expected. This wasn’t a favorite but definitely a cute read and I would read more Holly Danvers curled up by the fire in winter.

Thanks Netgalley and Crooked Lane Books for the e-arc!

I was fortunate to get an ARC copy of this book by a new-to-me author, courtesy of #NetGalley.
Holly Danvers crafts an intriguing tale of murder, mystery, and the framing of an innocent man in this cozy mystery. While it is the second book in a series, it stands extremely well on its own.
I particularly liked how the author makes the blizzard-like weather into a character in its own right, as it causes roadblocks and difficulties for the main characters to overcome. The characters themselves are true-to-life and relatable, the mystery is multi-faceted with many different suspects, and the library as a setting is ideal.. The book itself is well-written and enjoyable to read.

A great read for curling up in front of a fire. Cozy mysteries are very popular at the moment and they act as a form of comfort blanket in this somewhat stressful period.

A fun cozy murder mystery book. A winter's tale with Ice fishing in Lofty Pines - the ice is perfectly safe as it's at least TWELVE INCHES thick. I couldn't live there - I had to put a cardigan on to continue to read it once the snow storm started!

A good story, I loved it.

Thanks to Netgalley and the publisher I read a free advance review copy of the book. This review is voluntary, honest and my own opinion.

This book was hard for me to get through. I liked the overall mystery and I thought it was a nice story. The dialogue was so unrealistic to me that sometimes I just stopped and cringed. Especially Julia's whole reaction right after the body was discovered. I just could barely read her dialogue. I really loved the atmosphere of the library and I liked the small discussions on grief when those came up. For the most part, I enjoyed the story, but the dialogue kept making it hard for me to get through and I just kept finding it hard to pick it up and read more. I would give this 2.5 stars.

Book 2 in the series. A cozy mystery series set in the rural lake areas. Must admit I am thinking Minnesota, but might be Wisconsin too. Anyway, good story, good characters, easy read. A little slow at times, but otherwise highly recommend.

Long Overdue at the Lakeside Library is perfect for those looking for a quick, fun cozy mystery. However, it is predictable and I guessed the killer pretty early on..

This is the second book in the debut cozy series "Lakeside Library: by cozy author Holly Danvers. I enjoyed the first in series with a irresistible library setting and a fun sleuth. Thank you to the publisher and to Net Galley for the ARC. My review opinions are my own.,

Our protagnist / librarian Rain is enjoying her new life working at her families Lofty Pines Library in small town Wisconsin. its winter time and Rain is looking forward to enjoying the weather and the holidays. The town is planning a popular ice fishing tournament amid a upcoming blizzard. When a murder occurs of a local man in his ice fishing cabin Rain is involved and soon finding suspects abound and red herrings amid the many clues. As the local police draw into her friend as suspect number one she steps up her investigation skills and soon may solve this murder .

Rain is a likable protagnist. She is independent and has good sleuthing skills. The supporting charcters are fun and all add to the mystery of the sleuth. I found the sleuth pleasing to conclusion. Very well done to the author .

Long Overdue at the Lakeside Library is the 2nd book in the Lakeside Library series. It is an enjoyable cozy mystery with likable characters and friendship. Rain and her friend Julia run the little local library from Rain's family's cabin. There is a big ice fishing tournament going on. One of the fishermen is found dead and Julia's husband Nick is a suspect. This puts Julia's brother Jace, in a difficult position as a police officer. Rain orders a stove to heat the library and the installer is Ryan Wright. Rain and Ryan hit it off but she and Jace are becoming good friends as well. The book starts off quickly, lags a little and then picks back up to keep the reader guessing until the end. An enjoyable cozy mystery.

This is the second installment of the Lakeside Library Mystery series, and I enjoyed returning to the log cabin library in Wisconsin. Rain has decided to stay in Lofty Pines year-round and keep the library open throughout the year, as it had only opened during the summers in previous years. Then a man is found dead during the annual Ice Fishing Jamboree. Rain is given a blow when she finds out the prime suspect is her neighbor and best friend's husband, Nick. Nick's wife Julia is Rain's best friend. Rain and Julia have to find out what really happened and clear Nick's name.

Rain is even-tempered and thoughtful, while her friend Julia is impulsive with a quick temper. They seem to balance each well. The book was at times humorous and made me laugh at some of the escapades Rain and Julia got into during their investigation. They were definitely bold and determined, but sometimes making very risky choices. I liked the setting and the people of Lofty Pines. A good cozy mystery.

Thanks to Crooked Lane Books through Netgalley for an advance copy. This book will be published on February 8, 2022.

Long Overdue at Lakeside was an entertaining female amateur detective novel. I had not read the first book in the series but I have read books under Holly Danvers other name, Holly Quinn, and have always enjoyed them. For the most part, the book was captivating and had what I consider an essential element, strong character interrelationships. Rain and Julie really feel like almost-sister best friends and others fit right in.
I can forgive Julie for her almost-too-dumb-to-live moments since she was worried that her husband had been accused of murder and both her brother and best friend tried to talk her out of making bad choices. As long as those decisions are not continued into the next book, I will be reading that and the first book as soon as I can.
Thanks to NetGalley and Crooked Lane for giving me the opportunity to read an ARC for what to me was a new series, not five stars, but not a disappointment by any means. Long Overdue at the Lakeside Library by Holly Danvers provided several hours of fun reading for this amateur and cozy mystery fan

The setting is great in this one. The Northwoods Wisconsin during a winter storm! I loved it. We get to know more about Rain and Julia. Rain is the intuitive sleuth and Julia is the wild sidekick. They take a few crazy risks when investigating, so this one is a bit of a wild ride. The clues are well hidden, so I doubted my guess for the murderer. But in the end I was right, so that was a good payoff at the end of the book. My only complaint is that we are going into a love triangle. I personally don’t really like those, but it is done with a lighter touch in this book. So if we have to have a love triangle, this one is done fairly well so far.
This would be a great read for a snowy day or for when you wish it was a snowy day.

I enjoy a good cozy mystery and this one does not disappoint. I loved the winter scenes and activities, really puts me in the mood this time of year. I liked that it didn't follow the typical pattern that a lot of cozies fall into these days.

Living in Florida, I enjoyed the story being set in snow country. It took me back to the times when I enjoyed the snow so much. The story is an enjoyable read with twists and turns that you don't see coming. The characters are likeable and the action goes smoothly along. Some aspects I thought were a stretch of the imagination, but it is fiction.

"Long Overdue at the Lakeside Library" is the second book in the Lakeside Library Mystery Series. Rain Wilmot has taken over the library during summer as we read in the first book, but decides to also keep it open during the winter, a first. When a big snow storm is slowly coming towards Lofty Pine, she knows it was a good decision, as it's very busy.

Rain meets a man called Wallace Benson, who comes into the library to find a cookbook. He tells her he will also participate in the fishing tournament. When he is found dead in his fishing shanty during this tournament, Nick, the husband of Julia who is Rain's best friend, is arrested for the murder as the whole town knows Nick was angry with him for stealing his fishing spot. Rain and Julia have to work together to find clues of the real killer, as Jace, police detective and Julia's brother, is taken of the case due to conflict of interest.
When Rain is driven of the road and a second person just survives a murder attack, they have to put all in all to catch the killer before it's too late!

I love the characters in this series, they are very relatable and like able. The story itself was fantastic. It had so many twists and turns that I had no idea who the killer was. I had my suspicions, but they were only confirmed in the end. The book is left with a huge cliffhanger regarding Rain's personal life, so I am really hoping for a third book as this series deserves it. It's really, really good!

Second book in the Lakeside Library series
Rain Wilmot has convinced her mother to keep the library open though the winter.
Wallace Benson, along with participating in the ice fishing tournament, is interested
in participating in the chili dump and comes to the library for a chili cookbook.
When he is found murdered in his ice fishing shanty, Nick, the husband of Rain's
best friend Julia, is the main suspect. It appears that the confrontation Nick had
with Benson regarding Benson's appropriation of Nick's ice shanty spot is the last
Benson was seen alive. Jace, a police officer on the local force is blocked from
the investigation due to the fact that Julia is his sister.
Little is known about Benson, and Rain is determined to uncover the murderer
clear Nick.
Thanks to NetGalley for a copy.

Rain and Julia are the kinds of women that make getting into mischief fun. I have heard stories about up north Wisconsin fishing that made me wonder. All the mention of snow and cold, made me want to bury under the blanket as I read. The whodunit kept me guessing as more characters were introduced, all with their own motive to cause havoc in an ice shanty. Now the bigger question remains...will it be Jace...or will it be Ryan with the flowers??
