A very cute little story about a little boy and his monster friend who learn the little boy is going to be a big brother again. Boy is NOT excited about this so they go on an adventure and meet Monster’s baby friends and learn about them. Unbeknownst to them, Sister tags along. This is fun, and a step into early chapter books, and I think kids will love reading it before bed. I think a good discussion could be had about why Boy feels that he doesn’t want a Sister and whether he is being fair about it or not.
The illustrations were adorable, but I wasn't a fan of the storyline. The characters also didn't act very much like children in a way that was disruptive to the story.
This would be a great introduction to chapter books! The story is simple, light, and full of humor but it also includes a lot of expressive vocabulary. There's also a generous amount of illustrations that are cute and full of funny details. Kids would engage well with this and the overall message is positive and sweet.
Many thanks to the publisher and NetGalley for the opportunity to read and review!
This is the third book in the Monster and Boy easy chapter book series. You don't really need to read the first two because this one gives a basic summary in the beginning but the other books are fun. The boy and the Monster are on an adventure under the bed, and unbeknownst to them the little sister tags along. This story centers on new siblings and names. The story is good, with the narrator breaking the fourth wall to talk directly to the reader, and the illustrations (what we could see) are nice. It's a fun, engaging read for 2nd-3rd grades.
