Following the murder of his family as they were gathered for their Christmas celebration, Joe Ledger is in full revenge mode, determined to stop the leaders of a world wide black market weapon sales organization. These same villains, incidentally, were those responsible for bombing the family home--filled with everyone Joe loved, except his dear Junie. While the usual members of his team are trying to help, Joe leaves them far behind as his dark side takes over--he and his combat dog Ghost are on their own. Joe does reach out to other friends and contacts for occasional help, including Joe R Lansdale's Hap and Leonard--what fun to see them in this book. Authors who are friends do this sort of thing from time to time. This book is even more violent than usual, but Maberry probably gets to little credit for his humor, and narrator Ray Porter is first rate at reflecting this humor in his excellent performance. Porter has been the voice of Ledger through 12 novels and a few shorts, and deserves credit for the success of this very entertaining series in audio. His is at least one of the stars in my rating, and the Ledger books might not be quite as high on my personal entertainment list without him.

There are a lot of call backs to previous books, cases, villains & loved ones. Fan service 100%! You don’t have to read the previous books but it will make reading this book even more enjoyable as you’ll smile or cringe at random unearthed memories.

When we last saw Joe he had lost his entire family, cut down before his eyes. Poor Joe 😢 he is still NOT having a good day!

RTI is once again on the hunt for the bad guys. We’ve got new players & old! I LOVE So many of the main cast of characters!!! I hate that anyone from our team ever has to be killed off!! It’s always a possibility but NOOOO!! Who will it be today?

Joe & Ghost take off (from an unusually disturbing OP) on a mission of their own making … to kill those who brutally killed his family. Joe is in a very dark place for most of this story. It gets bloody.

The rest of the team is on the hunt of a new threat & an unusual character from Joe’s past is enlisted to find & help Joe (I LOVE THIS GUY).

There’s some sexy time but it’s minimal enough. There’s some swearing, I also wasn’t bothered by this. There is a bunch of graphic violence including rape so if this could bother you, just beware!! It’s difficult to hear the atrocities involving animals & children.

Hardcourt …. always reminds me of a Star Trek episode. 😆

I loved this audiobook! It’s Joe Ledger! If you like the previous books, you’ll like this one too!!
