I am notorious for not reading the blurb of a book. I look at the cover and the author. That’s about it. I sometimes scan the blurb just to make sure it is what I think it is. Well, I didn’t do that with this book. I started it…enjoyed it…then got lost. I thought, “who are these cats?” when the stories changed. It took me about three short stories to finally read the blurb! 🤦🏻‍♀️

These are wonderfully crafted and well written stories. They take you all over the globe and create such a warm feeling inside your heart! I enjoyed each and every one.

There are quite a few narrators which read different selections. Each one excels in their jobs! The narrators really added so much to these stories.

Need a heartwarming selection of stories which just make you feel good…THIS IS IT! Grab your copy today!

I received this Collection from the publisher for a honest review.

Thank you to Macmillan Audio and NetGalley for an advanced listening copy of this short story collection.

I first learned about Rosamunde Pilcher this summer when I read The Shell Seekers with my book club; Because I enjoyed that so much, I jumped at the chance to listen to this collection of short stories by Pilcher. I was fortunate to receive an advanced ebook copy as well so I followed along while listening. This was the perfect summer short story collection as several of the stories were centered around vacations or took place at least partially on a beach. The overall impression I was left with is that home sometimes "home" can be found in being with those we love.

No-one writes comfortable Cornwall stories like Rosamunde Pilcher. The simple earnestness of the characters, the gorgeous settings and the very “Britishness” of the situations encountered in these short stories somehow feels very nostalgic to me - although I have spent little time in Britain, and none in the homey coastal cottages captured so perfectly in this book. It is perhaps my inner eye, fueled by so many of these stories over time, that is “remembering” the time and the place captured in these stories with such warm welcome.

Its hard to pick a favorite, each story standing on its own gentle merits. The themes covered - love, grief and longing, accompanied by the always irresistible pull of a compassionate heart - are universally relatable, and as timeless as the stories themselves. I listened to this book on audio, and found the narration charming, and the stories a perfect place to sink into at the end of a long day.

A great big thank you to NetGalley, for an ARC of this book. All thoughts presented are my own.

A Place Like Home is a collection of Rosamunde Pilcher's short stories. This collection contains fifteen different short stories with a variety of themes. The Eyes of Love takes place in a Northumbrian village where old flames reunite. Another story tells about a lonely young woman that goes to recuperate in a Scottish countryside. All of the stories are romances featuring strong and memorable female characters.

I like Rosamunde Pilcher. "The Shell Seekers" is one of my favorites. However, I did not care for this collection of stories. I listened to the audio version.
The stories are not bad; they are mediocre. They are primarily romances that take place in the British Isles. They have a cozy, daily-life feeling to them. Some of the stories are better than others. For the most part, they are under-developed. There is nothing exciting or engrossing about any of them. However, they are clean and pleasant, if a little old fashioned.
Listening to the audio version, one story would end abruptly and another would start. Sometimes it took me a moment to realize the narrator had moved on to another story. Since the stories lack substance, there was nothing to resolve and no meaningful conclusion to an already weak plot. Honestly, there as usually nothing to conclude. Maybe if I had read a print version, the visual divide between one story and the next could have made the endings and beginnings more obvious; however, it would have done nothing to remedy the lack of substance.
I gave this book 3 stars because I think there is an audience for it. A reader can listen to (or read) one short story in a brief period of time. They are appropriate when you don't want anything too intense. In my opinion, these make good bedtime stories.
Thanks to the publisher and NetGalley for an ARC of this audiobook in exchange for an honest review.

A Place Like Home by Rosamunde Pilcher is a compilation of short stories, all illustrating the fact that it is a person, not a place, that is home. It is full of young love, and older love, both past and present, and second chance. It's a little old fashioned, which added to its charm. The stories, are gentle, often abut falling in love unexpectedly. Some were revisiting past loves. It was a thoroughly enjoyable listen.
Lovely English accents by readers, Barbara Barnes, Eilidh Beaton, Ellie Haydon, Jasmine Blackborow, and Jilly Bond. Not distracting, but just right. It would be difficult to find a more pleasant way to spend the time than listening to this audio book.
I was invited to listen to the audio ARC of A Place Like Home by Netgalley. All thoughts and opinions are mine.

Usually, I do not read short stories because I find them to be uneven and unfinished. But when I saw this collection of short stories by Rosamunde Pilcher, I decided to give the genre a chance because I am trying to read everything that she wrote.

These short stories are romances, taking place mostly in the UK post WWII. In most of the stories in this collection I fell in love with the characters as quickly as the characters fell in love with each other and I was happy to imagine the rest of their story.

Thank you Macmillan Audio and NetGalley for an audiobook ARC in exchange for my honest review!

I have long been a fan of Rosamunde Pilcher. She won me over with The Shell Seekers all those years ago and and has given me wonderful reading experiences for all these years. I am excited to see this set of 15 short stories have been compiled into one book and released today. Every one of them have wonderfully drawn characters that are relatable. The settings are lovely. Each story touches on family and relationships, what makes them, and what makes them precious. I listened to an advanced listeners copy from Macmillan Audio. This is the first time I’ve listened to any of this authors books on audio. I believe it added to my reading pleasure. All five of the narrators were quite good and captured the voice of the characters and the stories perfectly. Thank you to Net Galley and Macmillan audio for an ALC of this book. My opinions are my own.

A Place Like Home
Short Stories
by: Rosamunde Pilcher
narrated by: Barbara Barnes, Eilidh Beaton, Ellie Heydon, Jasmine Blackborow, Jilly Bond

The fifteen short stories in A Place Like Home transported me to places of comfort, solace, romance, and happiness through the words of our beloved Rosamunde Pilcher. The narration by this ensemble group of readers was just exquisite. Their voices brought out the warmth, charm, and grace of Pilcher's writing. It was a pleasure to be read to by this talented cast!
I loved each story, as all offered glimpses into a short span of time in the lives of interesting people in beautiful places such as England, Scotland, and the Mediterranean. Only Pilcher can so beautifully capture the intricacies of moments, events, scenery, landscapes, people, and memories in such subtle yet detailed descriptions. Her writing is both simple and complex, flowing like a gentle river that sweeps you in to experience the full range of emotions, thoughts, and actions of each character.
My personal favorite story was A Smile For the Bride, which was originally published in Good Housekeeping Magazine. Pilcher writes about the events on the wedding day of Amelia and David, leading up to their marriage in an ancient village church. Amelia takes a morning bicycle ride through the village and up a moor, where she meets an endearing elderly man with bright blue eyes. Pilcher's descriptions of this young couple's wedding day, with background on family relationships, are just gorgeous in this tale that will stay in my heart.
It is joyful to lovers of the late Rosamunde Pilcher's books to be able to listen to this compilation of stories, and be swept away once more to magical moments in time, place, and characters through the beauty of her writing.
Thank you to Net Galley and Macmillan Audio from St. Martin's Press for the advance reader's copy of the audiobook and the opportunity to provide my unbiased review of A Place Like Home.

This is a collection of short romance stories. I am not a huge fan of short stories, just because they leave me wanting more and there isn’t enough time to flesh out the characters and their backgrounds. That being said, the stories were enjoyable, some left you wanting more, some were tied up nicely. If you’re into short stories, this is the perfect book for you.

Thank you Netgalley for this ARC of A Place Like Home by Rosamunde Pilcher.

I was excited to get my hands on this because I was such a fan of The Shell Seekers, the only other book I read by her.

This is a series of short stories, all dipped in beautiful backdrops and delightful romance. None of them long, all of them heartwarming. I highly recommend.

Thanks #NetGalley @MacmillanAudio for a complimentary ALC (audio) of #APlaceLikeHome upon my request. All opinions are my own.

A Place Like Home is a collection of fifteen short stories by popular author, Rosamunde Pilcher (most likely your mother’s favorite author!). These stories were published in magazines and are now in book form for the first time. Each one explores different romantic stories (chaste) between couples that are married or courting or meeting for the first time (insta-love). All are poignant and quietly told with Pilcher’s trademark skill for describing time and place.

I think fans of Rosamunde Pilcher (The Shell Seekers, Coming Home) will enjoy this short story collection.

I imagine that younger readers or modern readers who enjoy open-door romance might find these stories a bit dated and tame. Each is quietly and warmly written with mostly open-ended and hopeful (HEA) endings that you can definitely imagine in that time and place.

A Place Like Home would be perfect for readers who desire a quiet, stress-free, and short read. Wonderful short stories before bedtime or while recovering from an injury or operation or quietly sitting by the fire with a cup of tea. Fans of Rosamunde Pilcher will especially enjoy her warmly written, gently told, character-driven, and descriptive short stories. If you’re looking for a book gift for someone who prefers women’s fiction with no profanity, sex, suspense, or violence, this might be perfect.

I did listen to this on audio and each narrator added enjoyment to the story.

This is a collection of 15 short stories. I found this to be a fast and delightful read. From loneliness, to love, to trauma, Pilcher touches on all sorts of emotions throughout the stories. A perfect audiobook.

Coming off of a near perfect reading experience of 'The Shell Seekers' on audio, I want all-the-Pilcher and I want it all now. Thanks to Macmillan audio for early access to A PLACE LIKE HOME., a collection of 15 short stories,

Each story features a smart, strong female character and brought warmth, heart and romance. There is also a strong sense of place which I've come to expect (and appreciate) from Pilcher's writing,

The short story format made me feel like I do after I experience a perfect meal. When everything comes together and I'm absolutely satisfied. Not too full. Not left wanting. Just positively content. .

A truly charming collection of short stories all by this beloved author. Feel good, sweet stories of new love, old love, second chances, learning to move forward and more in wonderful places. It all seems a bit dated, but still a lovely listen.

This anthology of short stories was released by the estate of Rosamunde Pilcher. I have very fond memories of reading The Shell Seekers as a teenager and happily working my way through her catalog as a young adult.
I was very excited to have the opportunity to read and review A Place Like Home. All the happy memories I had of the hours spent reading her stories came back full force. The title is perfect - this anthology really is like coming home and finding it a safe place to land.
I thoroughly enjoyed all of the stories and will happily dip back into this book whenever I want a few minutes of comfort and gentle reading.
Many thanks to NetGalley and Macmillan Audio for the opportunity to read and review this book.

Reviewing
A Place Like Home
By Rosamunde Pilcher

Love. It’s a funny, fickle, unconditional, emotional, and absolutely infuriating thing. It can overwhelm you in the most wonderful ways and leave you feeling completely isolated when unrequited.

In A Place Like Home, Rosamunde Pilcher shares a charming collection of short stories that explores the many nuances of falling in and out of love. The 15 stories range greatly in time period, mood, and theme yet they all highlight the joys that love offers. I loved the quick reads, complex characters, and the inspiring endings.

⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️ 4 stars for this dazzling love inspired collection

A Place Like Home by Rosamunde Pilcher is a collection of 15 different short stories that are accurately described as a "perfect slice of romance written with warmth and passion featuring wonderfully memorable, smart, and feisty female characters that will transport the listener to another time and place."

I would say that description is accurate, (although feisty may carry a slightly different connotation in the 21st century), but still, it was armchair, sit by the fireplace and chill out, with a glass of wine type listening.

Of course, since there are 15 different stories in this collection, some may be more appealing to the reader than others, but overall, the British author's works will be continued to be enjoyed and read by generations to come.

All audio version narrators lent enjoyability to each story..

My thanks to NetGalley and the publisher for an advanced Audio Version of this book in exchange for my honest opinion.
