This took me back to middle school/high school reading every R. L. Stine I could get my hands on. It was typical with the twists. Some I guessed but some I did not. I definitely recommend this for a quick read for nostalgia.
The audio book was excellent as far as editing, pacing, and the narrator generally keeping the book flowing.
This was such a fun nostalgic listen.
R.L. Stine writes fun fast YA/middle grade books. This one falls more in the realm of YA.
I really enjoyed feeling like I was traveling back in time reading this book. There were a few times that I found myself rolling my eyes at something that either didn’t make a lot of sense, or was mildly sexist, but otherwise, it was a really good time.
Thanks to the publisher for providing a review copy of the audiobook for Give Me a K-I-L-L in exchange for an honest review.
I was a massive Goosebumps fan growing up but only ever got around to reading 1 or 2 of the original Fear Street books so I was really excited to give this one a shot, but it just didn't deliver. Give Me a K-I-L-L either tries to be both horror and camp at the same time or accidentally comes off as a campy parody of horror but either way, it doesn't blend while. You definitely shouldn't be bored while listening to a book shelved as horror, but I was.
It's getting to that time of year where the spooky books are the appealing way to go! The trees are starting to change colors, the pumpkins are starting to get ready and school is starting for the younger generation. It's starting to feel like fall! Growing up I was really fond of the Goosebumps series and when I got a chance to listen to the Fear Street books I took it!
Due to her parent's messy divorce, she is forced to leave her best friend and cheer squad behind, Gretchen Page is doing something we ALL hated as kids. She is starting a new school and she's in high school. She was the best cheerleader in her smaller town so she took the opportunity when presented to her to try out for the cheerleading team in her new school. While she wows the cheer captain and the cheer coach due to basically a rich girl wanting the spot and the rich girl's parents being able to make a "donation" she ended up being the alternate on the cheer squad.
Soon after that incident strange "accidents" start happening one cheerleader at the football game was burned so badly she was in the ICU at the hospital. Then a girl that is Gretchen's neighbor and really her only friend in Shadyside is murdered during her performance with her violin. All things seem to be pointing to Gritchen that the other rich cheerleader is at fault but then the twist and the turns keep coming! If you are looking for a good spooky/thriller then this is the one for you!
I listened to the audiobook and the narrator was right on point! Her voice, pace, and everything were absolutely AMAZING! Thank you Netgalley and Macmillian Audio for this opportunity!

Heather just transferred to Shadyside and wants badly to be on the cheer team. At her old school, she was a great cheerleader and wants to continue at her new school. She soon finds out that there’s competition. Devra, a local rich girl needs the only cheerleader spot available. Who will get the spot?
I liked this one! I loved how all the chapters ended on cliffhangers that made me want to keep reading. This book kept me guessing the whole time. I suspected everyone but did not see the ending coming!
Thank you to Netgalley and Macmillan Audio for this audiobook in exchange for my honest review.

Of the three relaunch Fear Street books that I read this week, this one was probably my favorite. Strangely enough, I started not to request this one. I just didn't think a book about cheerleaders would be that interesting, but for the sake of nostalgia, I decided to give it a shot.
Ironically, as I've already mentioned, it turned out to be (in my opinion) the best of the three. Fear Street books always have one or two big twists and reveals in them, and while they're usually entertaining and not always easy to spot for teens and pre-teens, as an adult, they aren't usually that shocking to me.
I have to say that this one surprised me. I had an idea of what was going on, and both of the biggest reveals... I had a grasp that they were coming, but the way they came WAS surprising, and that's why I liked this one so much more than the other two.
As for all the "normal" Fear Street stuff - angsty couples, troubled teens, young love, tumultuous familial relationships, blood, gore, and horror - all that stuff was still there, some of it in abundance. But I felt the plot of this one was a little more intricate and adult than the other two that I read (and many of the Fear Street books I remember reading as a kid).
As for the audiobook, it was great. They used the same narrator for all three books, and I've already sung her praises when reviewing the first two. She has the ideal voice for narrating Fear Street books. She knows how to pace herself steadily so that she can be clearly understood but doesn't slow the book down until it's slow, lagging, and boring.
The audio quality was exceptional. There were no issues with editing or cuts; everything was clear and easy to hear, and I had absolutely zero complaints with those aspects of the book. Overall, this was a solid three to three and a half stars. I would have enjoyed it simply for nostalgia's sake, but it ended up being a pretty decent book all around.
I read a lot of Fear Street as a kid, so it was fun to journey back to Shadyside with this new book. It feels just like the books I knew and loved when I was 13 (with appropriate updates for things like cell phones and google). If you are a pre-teen/teen who is wants to get into horror or someone who grew up with this series looking for a hit of nostalgia, Give Me a K-I-L-L should tick the right boxes. Some nice creepiness, mixed with high school drama and plenty of cheesiness. It's brought to life while by the narrator, who brings a believable voice to the teen and adult characters.
RL Stine was my favorite author when I was younger. I read all of his books from Goosebumps up through Fear Street. I was really excited to read the relaunched books from the Fear Street series. This book has stereotypical teenagers/cheerleaders harassing each other and there's a mystery surrounding someone messing with the new girl, Gretchen. I really enjoyed the narrator on this audiobook. She kept me engaged in the story. I felt the main character was unlikeable which made it hard for me to care what was happening to her at times. I enjoyed the twist at the end and didn't see it coming at all!
Thank you NetGalley and Macmillan Audio for access to this ARC.
This was my favorite of the new Fear Street books, hands down. This one was everything I remembered Fear Street to be with appropriate updates for the times. The narrator was absolutely perfect for this one - I 100% believed she was a cheerleader living on Fear Street.
2 for 2 in the bad department. I guess I am just too old for these now. Too ridiculous and not in a good way. I have suspended my belief for the horror genre, but the writing is just bad. Things just happen and don't make sense. Oh well. I've grown out of R. L. Stine.
Four stars! I am a huge R.L. Stine fan from Goosebumps as a kid, so listening to this story gave me allll the feels! Stine's writing style is so consistent without being stale or redundant. I was super excited to be provided with this audiobook by Netgalley and the publishers in exchange for a review...all these opinions are my own.
The story starts with Gretchen, a high school cheerleader who had to move to a new town her junior year. She finds it tough to find a new clique, especially when she makes an enemy with Devra when she is awarded a try out on the coveted cheerleading squad.
I won't say anymore because I don't want to hint at any spoilers, but I will say I was SHOOK with the ending! Such a great story, I can't wait to read more in this Fear Street series remake!
Synopsis:
Heather is the new girl at Shadyside High School, and she wants to be on the cheerleading squad. Her main competition is Devra, the spoiled rich girl.
Give Me a K-I-L-L , was a fun and fast paced, and twisty YA thriller. The narrator did a fantastic job.
Give Me a K-I-L-L was a sinister roller coaster ride! This was my favorite of the re launch that I've read so far. Was it a little cheesy? Yes. Was it a little predictable? Yes. Did I love it anyways? Well duh! I found several events in the book to be cheesy and predictable but the actual twist and ending was surprising and unexpected for sure. The audio was done really well and was easy to listen to and follow.
Born in the late 70s, I was a bit too old for the original Fear Street books and definitely too old for Goosebumps. I was, however, obsessed with the Point Horror books in the late 80s and early 90s, which included some early R. L. Stine YA horror books. After binging on the Fear Street movies recently released on netflix, I knew I had to read some of the new Fear Street relaunch books. I've been reading through some of the original Fear Street books when I need a brain break and this new one is very much cut from the same cloth - short chapters, misdirect cliffhangers, a secret about one character's health history, and a quick read overall. It was a fun few hours to listen to an audiobook and I was lucky enough to be provided with access to that audiobook by the publisher in exchange for an honest review. If you're a parent, these books are innocent enough for preteens, imo, but I also was reading Stephen King as a preteen, so it's possible my acceptable meter is a bit skewed. Really hoping there are more Fear Street movies in the works.
I loved Fear Street as a kid and teen. This just brought all the memories back! Loved all 3 of these on audio!
Loved the narrator on this book. She made it come alive for me. I loved the story itself also. Very very well done that keeps you entertained.
Yes! The good ol' Shadyside I know and love! While listening to this audio provided by NetGalley and Macmillan Audio we are introduced to a new era of Shadyside Cheerleaders. I kept expecting the Evil to play a part, or for one of the old cheerleaders to show up, or just something, but it didn't happen, so that was a bit of a bummer. But all in all, the story held up well bringing back some of that old style Fear Street.
The narrator, Brittany Pressley, did a good job and I'm thrilled to see her doing more of the Fear Street narrations.
Gretchen Wyatt didn't expect this rocky of a start to her first days at Shadyside High -- fighting over the one open spot on the cheerleading squad. And she certainly didn't expect the competition to be murder....literally.
R.L. Stine takes teenage drama and sprinkles in just the right amount of blood and horror to make this story entertaining. The main characters are pretty much cheerleader and mean girl stereotypes, but that's expected. That's how Fear Street stories work....take the usual teen stereotypes rehashed over and over in movies and books, but add in some twisty horror. Let's face it...there's no way the Shadyside Cheerleading squad is going to stop at just normal teen angst. There will be blood and screams....
I listened to the audio version of this story. The audio is just short of 5.5 hours long and narrated by Brittany Pressley. She gives an excellent voice acting performance. The story kept my attention from start to finish. The story is definitely geared to its target YA audience, but I still enjoyed it. I didn't expect the ending -- R.L. Stine always seems to deliver a great ending!

In Give Me a K-I-L-L we follow new girl Heather as she hopes to get into Shadyside High cheerleading squad. Without knowing, she is starting a feud with an entitled rich girl, Devra, who is used to get what she wants, and right now, she wants in the squad.
I thoroughly enjoyed Give Me a K-I-L-L - the characters leaped off the page, the tension between Heather and Devra was palpable. I couldn't put it down. The cherry on top was all the twists Stine added to the story.
This has been my favourite Fear Street Relaunch book to date. Both the story and the audiobook production by Macmillan Audio from St. Martin's Griffin. I highly recommend this audiobook to anyone. It is the perfect gateway to listening to the Fear Street books. I dare you not to get hooked and want to binge as many FS audiobooks as you can after listening to Give Me a K-I-L-L. I am officially going through withdrawal from Pressley's voice right now. (in my opinion) She is to Fear Street Audiobooks what Lani Minella was to Nancy Drew games.
Disclaimer: I first read it as an ARC. In exchange for an honest review, I am thankful to Macmillan Audio, St. Martin's Griffin, and NetGalley for providing me with a copy of Give Me a K-I-L-L
⭐️⭐️⭐️ I’ve been a Fear Street fan since the first release back in the late 1980’s so I was thrilled to see these coming out. Once I realized that NetGalley was going to have the audio books I had to jump on them. Thanks to NetGalley and the publisher for the advance audio book. If you’ve read lots of Fear Street in the past you know how these go. Some are gauged towards girls and some are gauged towards guys. Even though these are high school based I find myself being nostalgic at listening to the stories and hearing about the teenage problems. I highly recommend this audiobook and the book itself.
