This quickly became a must read series for me! I found this series on Amazon. Plowed through the first three books during the month of July and was disappointed I had to wait for book 4. Then, lucky me, I was approved for an arc on NetGalley!

Like the first three, this one did not disappoint! I can’t wait to read more!

Original crimes are hard to come by but some of the murder methods in this book were new to me.
I already loved this series but it’s getting more addictive with every book.
White is a great character, slightly flawed, she has her own demons to deal with, but not in a distracting way
The setting is brilliant, a quiet coastal area with great countryside around it
The peripheral characters are engaging and bring a lot to the stories

Another great addition to the series. We were left wondering at the end of the last book about Casey and Jericho's relationship. You won't have to read far for the answer. These characters are great and I've become invested in them.
There are a couple of mysteries this go around. Both are complex and full of tension. I didn't guess before the reveal which I enjoyed. There were plenty of surprises to keep you guessing and the way the author writes the separate cases but blends things together keeps it easy to follow along. And that ending! I was shocked and now I am anxiously waiting for the next book.

The Crying House is the fourth instalment in the Detective Casey White series set in the Outer Banks, North Carolina. Casey is back at work after a period of enforced leave thanks to a work-related injury, and she is now raring to go. One morning she heads out for a five-mile run to help her get physically fit and strong again, and along the beach she discovers empty cans and bottles - evidence that a late-night party had recently taken place. Her attention is then drawn to a pink jacket near some abandoned houses that had been hung neatly and hadn't just landed there by chance. She decides to further investigate and finds that on the third piling to the left of the jacket, stray hairs are dangling loose, anchored in the wood. And beneath them, a thick swath of blood. The hairs are nestled between splinters and on the ends is tissue, the hairs having clearly been ripped from someone's scalp. Taking a look inside the house, she finds the body of a local high school student on the first floor who has a gash on her head. Realising it is a serious crime scene she combs the rest of the dilapidated home once Doctor Swales and her boyfriend Marine Patrol major Jericho Flynn arrive to help process the scene.

To their horror they discover another body on the third floor; this time a woman who appears to have been mummified using salt and has been positioned in a ritualistic fashion. Luckily, the kids who have been hanging out in and around the house do not appear to have ventured onto the top floor as the stairs are rotting and it is quite unsafe. Facing east to west, the body is pale and waxy and has been preserved by highly concentrated salt. It isn't long before they search the other derelict houses along the beach and find more bodies. The modus operandi implies the mummified murders were carried out by the same perpetrator, so the team must work quickly and efficiently knowing they have a serial killer in their midst. This is a compulsive and enthralling addition to the series with two murder cases running concurrent to one another. Both are equally gripping, and Spangler provides several different suspects in the chase to find those responsible. There are twists, turns and surprises throughout and we are made to wonder whether Casey's daughter, Hannah, who was abducted aged 3 is one of the victims. All in all, a gritty, compelling and suspenseful read. Highly recommended.

What a rollercoaster this read has been. This novel focuses on two separate murder enquiries which has been an element that has instantly hooked my attention.

This is a novel which is filled with interesting plot lines, I have found that this is well-written and great characters. It has made this a fantastic read from start to finish.

This is a novel which is part of a series, although it does read perfectly as a standalone book. There is tension and suspense laced through this one and I have found this completely unpredictable.

This is an exciting read, it is dark on occasions and definitely an addictive read. I have loved this one.

Picking up where the previous book left off, I was nervous to see how Casey was feeling and her job status, The Crying House is fantastic!! I should not have worried… on a morning run, Casey finds a pink jacket which leads her into a home in disrepair. Inside she finds not just one dead body, but two. Are they related? With Jericho by her side, Casey returns to work and searches for answers…. In addition to the overarching question of finding her missing daughter, Loved this book so much!

A pink jacket tossed on the fence of an abandoned house leads Detective Casey White to the scene of a recent party…and to the body of a local high school senior. During the preliminary investigation, another body is found on the second floor of the house. This body has been mummified using salt and has been ritually positioned. Who is she? The cases bring Casey back to work after mandated time off for an injury. She’s determined to solve both cases while working with a newly organized team. They quickly narrow down a list of suspects in the first murder but, as always with B.R. Spangler, there are surprises. The second case is more complicated. Casey has to learn a lot about the mummification process and the amount of salt needed. A mysterious note found with the victim may provide a much needed clue. But then the case takes a turn closer to home.

The Crying House has two plots lines woven together and moves back and forth between two time periods. It is the fourth in a series yet reads as a standalone thriller. Beautifully written, suspenseful, with well developed recurring characters, it is definitely a 5 star read.

The Crying House is a solid, extremely detailed and descriptive police procedural. That slowly drew me in thanks to a mummified body and the discovery of a dead teenager in an abandoned house by detective Casey White.

And with two cases that seemingly aren't linked, more abandoned houses to search and the real possibility of a serial killer on the loose, this turned out to be a gripping read with characters that certainly piqued my interest.

Would recommend.

I just finished this book and I loved it. Can not wait for the next book in this series. This is the first book I have read by this author but will be looking for other books. Highly recommended

This is the fourth book in the Detective Casey White Series, although there is no reason why this can’t be read as a standalone book. This title is due to be released 3rd August 2021.

Casey is on her morning run and discovers a dead teenage girl in one of the abandoned homes in Outer Banks, North Carolina.

After further investigation another body is found in the same building but this one has been ‘mummified’, with a cryptic note left in their hand.

Two cases are opened, and Casey returns to work fulltime to help in the investigation. More ‘Mummified’ bodies are found, and Casey must solve the mystery behind the case to find the serial killer.

There is a lot of tension throughout as the mystery unfolds and you are on the edge of your seat the whole time.

I really enjoyed this book and I felt part of the team, working through and solving the clues with them. There is so much to the story and many backgrounds of the characters I still want to explore through reading this series. I will have to read the first three in the series and any more in the future.

Overall, an exciting, dark, shocking thriller that leaves you wanting more. A must read for any crime/thriller reader.

i so love this series .Casey is still on leave with the loss of her baby and injury her relationship with Jericho is stronger than ever she still looks for her daughter ,Casey is out on an early morning run and she spots a pink coat on a post next to an old derelict house she decides to go in the house and finds the body of a young girl on the 1st floor , she rings DR swales and contacts her team . Jericho and Casey go to check the rest of the house as youngsters are having party s there but they not been on top floor as stairs not safe when they get to the top of house they find a body wrapped up as a mummy ,so they decide to check all the derelict houses they find more bodies of young women wrapped up as mummy s so they have to find out who these missing girls are and who the killer is its very addictive so recommend

This is a great addition to the series and a book I thoroughly enjoyed. Casey finds a body in an abandoned house whilst out running and when the house is fully searched a mummified body is found. Are the murders connected? I loved the two separate plot lines here, the author wove them both into the story and the book moved from past to present so easily. I found this to be a fast paced, thrilling read with twist after twist and one that had me desperate to continue reading to see what came next, especially towards the end. I wrongly guessed who the murderer was. Casey’s ongoing search for her missing daughter took a back seat here, with a hint of more with that in the next book. Overall a great read and one I would recommend. Will definitely read the next book in series.

Casey is out running when she spots a pink jacket in an abandoned house. Further investigation reveals the dead body of a teenager and a full search of the location reveals a second body, this one mummified by salt. Certain things about the second body leads the team to search more abandoned houses and soon they realise that they are looking for a serial killer.

I enjoyed The Crying House, which covers two concurrent and very different murder enquiries. The contrast between them adds a wider perspective on murder investigation with different approaches for each. It was also pleasant to see a different subplot than the usual Casey hunting her daughter, Hanna, who was abducted as a toddler, although the final sentences in the novel throw a curveball into that mix. I don’t know whether to be excited about that development or fed up that the thread will continue.

I was impressed by the way the author keeps both plot lines interesting and simmering with strategic reveals and developments. The first body should technically be the easier one to solve as it happened after an eventful party, but nothing is as it seems and there’s a lot of teenage hormones and rage to navigate. It’s not particularly deep, but it’s not simple either. The mummified corpse case is more problematic as stranger murders always are and yet it is the first one solved. Some serendipity helps it along.

I like Casey White in this novel. She seems more mellow and less impetuous. It means that the novel feels less dramatic, but still entertaining and it held my attention throughout.

The Crying House is a good read that I have no hesitation in recommending.

Casey forces herself to run just a little further - encouraged by a pink jacket waving in the wind. Stretching, she notices hair caught in splinters- the abandoned houses resting on pilings, clearly a hangout for local kids. Casey inspects the house to find the body of a high school student. And the mummified remains of a young woman.
Jericho and his team assist Casey's, working together to find more mummified young women.
Could one of them be Hannah, Casey's daughter who has been missing since the age of three.
I enjoyed this story - the creative plot, did not guess the killer until just about the end. Suspense made my leg jitter. Loved the characters.
This is the first in this series I have read - I didn't feel like it held me back at all. Definitely want to read the next.

Another fantastic book in the Detective Casey White series! Casey is on the hunt for a killer who is murdering young teenage girls and mummifying their bodies....let's just say gory! This book was creepy and thrilling at the same time. One of my favorite series the author keeps you very captivated from the very first pages. Love this series and this book! Highly recommend if your looking for a great thriller with the creep factor.

This is book 4 in a series but can be read as a stand alone but as soon as you finish it you'll want the rest of the series so I'd recommend you start with book 1, "Where Lost Girls Go"
This is one of those reads that just begs to be read in one sitting. The story really tugs at your emotions, one minute I was breathless with anticipation, the next I had tears running down my face. I hope the author is writing furiously because I can't wait for the next instalment.

This book surprised me in a good way.. The prologue and the first chapter blew me away. You can speak of a good start! This is the fourth book in the Detective Casey White series. I didn’t read the first 3 books, but I’ll definitely do that. I love the writing style and it reads easy. And an extra bonus for the short chapters! The murder investigations had some good plot twists that I didn’t see coming

This book rediscovered my love for thrillers. When I was a teenager I read a lot of thrillers from my Belgian authors. From know on I’ll read more trillers again.

I love a book with a powerful prologue. This one is short, disturbing and almost begs you to read more.
This is the fourth in a series of books featuring Detective Casey White, previous events in her life are referred to and yet it is more than fine to read this as a standalone novel.
There are two stories going on. One a fairly run of the mill teen murder, seemingly triggered in some kind of postcode war. The other, is a much more sinister, dark storyline with a series of bodies mummified in salt discovered.
This book is so well researched, a painstaking amount of time must have gone into planning this novel and there are so many fascinating subjects incorporated into this book.
I really liked the sense of team led by Casey White, Dr. Swales my personal favourite and yet all of the characters had a worthwhile part to play.
The book moved along at an ideal pace, leading to a well rounded up conclusion.
The first time I have read anything from this author, I can’t wait to read more.

I have to admit that I havent read the first three, and whilst I can sense I've missed some context it didnt hinder the enjoyment as a standalone read.
The murders here are incredibly unique and nothing like I've ever read before. Its gritty, gory, and doesnt hold back.
Some great characters, good few twists, complex but not overwhelming.
