Another amazing, nail- biting, suspense filled mystery in the Detective Josie Quinn series. Lisa Regan has created a cast of characters that makes the reader feels invested. This book was extra personal to the author and that comes out through her words. I highly recommend this book and the entire series.
All of the Josie Quinn series are 5 stars for me. Love these characters and all the different stories. This one is no different! Can't wait for the next one.
This is book 12 of the brilliant Detective Josie Quinn series and my goodness it’s a real belter of a read !
Josie is in a dark place after the events that happened in the last book (no spoilers) and returning to work after months off is proving to be hard at times but this is Josie Quinn and she takes it all in her stride determined to put her all into solving the mystery that face her and the team. This was a case full of twists and turns for the team with lots of surprises that I didn’t expect and it went a fair old pace to reach a thrilling and satisfying conclusion.
What I really loved about the book was that we saw another side toJosie, a vulnerable side and I thought the way that was portrayed was wonderful and all credit to Lisa Regan and her amazing writing skills making it a read that I just couldn’t put down and here I now eagerly awaiting the next in the series.
So loved everything about the book, another 5 star read and one not to missed.
My thanks to NetGalley and Bookouture for giving me the chance to read the ARC in exchange for my honest opinion.
Josie’s back in action, and she’s taking us on another wild ride!
Her Deadly Touch, book 12 in Lisa Regan’s Josie Quinn series, is every bit as good as the first (and the second, third, fourth—you get the picture). Regan doesn’t let up, and with every new installment of this series I find myself further drawn in to the lives of these characters. I feel their happiness, their frustrations and their pain, especially Josie’s.
Regan’s crime thrillers are as addictive as they are intricate. The attention to detail she puts into every novel is simply impeccable and it’s such an inspiration to watch her stories unfold.
Fans of this series know book 11 left Josie with an unimaginable loss, and that theme is carried into book 12 as well. Grief and loss are prevalent throughout, and Regan tackled them with absolute grace.
I already can’t wait to see what she comes up with for book 13!
Thank you to NetGalley, Bookouture and Lisa Regan for the gifted eARC!
I loved it! Watching Josie deal with the death of her grandma was so painful. I could feel all of her hurt and sorrow. It was nice to see a little healing throughout the book.
The storyline was absolutely wonderful. There were so many ups and downs, twists and turns that I did not have a clue as to who the bad guy was.
Lisa Regan has become one of my favorite authors, the Josie Quinn series, by far one of my favorites..
I received an ARC through Netgalley and this review is my honest opinion.
This book I think is a cathartic experience for both the lead character and the author. The author suffered a loss in the her personal life just as Josie had and you could feel that she poured her personal grief into this book. Josie has never had it easy in her life but the loss of her grandmother - the woman who raised her and was the only good person from her childhood - sends Josie to a dark place emotionally. The only thing keeping her afloat is a throwing herself into murder investigation that lands in her lap in a most unconventional way.
Have read and loved every book in this wonderful series and this latest instalment did not disappoint in fact I think Lisa Regan is getting better and better! This was a compelling and thoroughly enjoyable read from start to finish with a great storyline as ever! Grab yourself a copy of this book you won’t regret it.
Love…love….loved this book. This is book 12 in the Detective Josie Quinn series. At the beginning of this book Josie has been on suspension for 4 months. The longest she has been away from her team. Josie is grieving a significant loss which occurred in the previous book. To fully understand the significance of her loss and depth of her grief it does help to have read all the previous books in this series. The central underlying theme of grief in this book is so powerful and so real. If you have ever experienced a soul crushing grief like Josie has you fully understand her in this book.
The mystery portion of the book was fantastic and well done and kept me guessing till the end. The only thing I did miss in this book was Josie’s extended family. I could keep gushing over how much I love this book, but a big five stars for this one and can’t wait for Josie Quinn #13.
Look, if I see a Lisa Regan novel, I will read it.
Josie Quinn is one of the best written detectives out there. She is human, flawed and makes mistakes. The way Regan writes Josie is very admirable. Josie is a woman who has gone through a lot of things in her life, and Regan is not afraid to explore the emotions that come with that.
In Her Deadly Touch, we see Josie struggle with the loss of her grandmother Lisette, who was killed in the previous book. Josie is not sure she can come back to work, but a case forces her to return. With her going back to work and doing what she does best, we see Josie get her own power back, and that was wonderful to see.
Ofcourse, the murders that are happening in the story are very interesting and innovative. I did not see the twist coming at the end but it was as always well executed.
Have read and loved every book in this series and this latest instalment did not disappoint. Great plot, full of twists and turns, once I started reading it it was impossible to put down. Definitely worth a read!
Outstanding.
Gutted.
Wow.
I’ll never be able to do my feelings justice and put it into words. But I’ll try. What an absolute wild ride. And I say that more for Josie’s state of mind than the murders. And that storyline was brilliant, different, so intricate and twisted. Lies…lies can be deadly.
Josie suffered a devastating loss in the last book. (No spoilers) Reading this book, her grief was palpable. It literally leapt off the page and sucker punched you.
Lisa Regan’s writing is so fantastic. She truly is gifted. I felt gutted for Josie all the while she forced herself to go back to work. I think I’m sadder in this book than last. Because we literally can feel Josie’s grief. And I think what I love most about the progression of this series is the depth of growth we see in not only the story arcs but in Josie. The authors writing is brilliant. Because come on this is book 12 and I’m still glued to my chair reading. And can I take a moment to say Noah ROCKS. There a scene in book with wildflowers and I sobbed. He is just what she needs. All this and man I have not even tapped into the murder mystery of the book which was really a great concept. So many layers of deceit. So dang good.
By the end I was sobbing because not only do I feel Josie’s pain…I can feel the authors. As she explains at the end, she lost her dad suddenly while writing this book. And I can feel it in her writing.
I love this series and this author. Her talent is amazing and I can’t wait to see what’s next.
Good book! This book had suspense intrigue, action, and a decent storyline! I did go back and forth about this book as it was good, but it wasn't my all time top favorites its a good storyline, flows nice but just ok for me! Thank you Netgalley and the publisher for sharing this book with me!
If you hadn’t already decided that Lisa Regan is the new Queen of Suspense, Her Deadly Touch will seal the deal for you. Normally, I start my reviews with sit down, buckle up, and get ready for a roller coaster ride, but this book has a much different feel to it than the previous eleven. Yes, it’s a roller coaster ride, but not like the ones you’re used to from Lisa Regan. I apologize ahead of time if this review is slightly rambling, but you’ll understand why once you read the book.
Josie is coming off suspension after her grandmother’s death. She’s lost in her grief still, and for the first time in her life, she doesn’t care about work. She’s reluctantly sucked into the case of the missing woman on her first day back in the squad room. Krystal, the mother of one of the West Denton Five, was missing. Who was the West Denton Five? They were five children killed in a bus crash two years before the opening of this book. When the book opened, the bus driver was going to trial for their deaths and the entire group of parents who lost children was reliving their worst nightmare…so was Josie.
Constantly confronted by nightmares of what happened to her grandmother compounded by her grief, Josie was barely holding it together. Every time she was faced with someone else’s pain she nearly crumbled but managed to pull herself back together each time to puzzle out the new thread tied to the next missing person, and eventually, found bodies. As always with Lisa’s books, the suspense and mystery plotline are an intricate spiderweb that spans from the first page to the last. Josie was struggling with the two words ‘if only’ after losing her grandmother. If only she had insisted Lisette go back to the hotel. Those words were so tiny, but they packed a punch that kept hitting Josie over and over until she harnessed their power to help the team solve this mystery before more bodies piled up.
Gretchen, Mettner, Fraley, Amber, and even the chief, all see the difference in Josie and while they still call her ‘boss’ and look to her for the strong guiding hand she always offers the team, there was a softness to the way they approached her in this adventure. Noah, of course, was her rock, and Lisette’s death bonded them together as both now seeing the world through the grief of losing a mother to violence. Noah’s gentleness with Josie was sweet, but it was Gretchen that broke me in this book. She loves Josie so much, and it killed her to see her in so much pain with little she could do. I really felt for Gretchen because I feel the same way every time I talk with Lisa and know I can do nothing to ease her pain after losing her father. I can listen, I can say things that in the end will mean absolutely nothing, and I can keep reminding her to put one foot in front of the other because that’s what Billy would want, but like Gretchen, I can’t make it better. For Josie’s team, they struggled with that as much as Josie struggled with her guilt, shame, and pain of how Lisette left this world.
The suspense plot in this book was superb as it always is, and for the first time, Lisa got me. I had no idea who the bad guy was and that really threw me. I ALWAYS know, but I was absolutely wrong this time.
That said, this book was also emotionally superb. Josie is mired in her grief as the book opens. I’ll be real, it’s hard as hell to read Josie’s inner thoughts knowing a lot of those thoughts are also Lisa’s as she’s faced with writing a book about grief in the middle of her grief, BUT…but. As I read, I pictured Billy standing over her shoulder as she typed, his hand on her shoulder, telling her “I couldn’t stay here forever. We all knew that…but you’re still here. Make it count. Go to work.” And she went to work. She took a seasoned detective and broke her down into a real, breathing, broken character we all just want to hug and tell her it will be okay. Maybe not today or even tomorrow, but one day, you’ll remember more of the good memories. While that gaping hole will always be there, it will be easier to fill it with the middle than the end, because no one ever gets a happy ending.
I hope this review in its honesty makes you want to pick up this novel, take a breath, crack open the spine, and live Josie’s experience. If book eleven broke you, book twelve will too, but in a different way that tells you we’re all going to be okay. Even without Lisette, Josie will go on and change the world because Lisa is doing the same. Kudos, my friend, even faced with an insurmountable amount of grief, not to mention so many family situations and tasks to deal with, you finished this book for your readers in startling brilliance. You’ve proven yourself to be the queen of suspense once again, and I hope that little voice stays in your mind because we need more of your work.
