Tense and claustrophobic with a nail-biter of an ending! This drew me in so much I lost my Sunday - I had to find out what the heck was going on between these neighbours. narrative by three different women, all with their own set of problems, we gradually find out the link between them. Fabulously entertaining!
Outstanding Psychological Thriller
This riveting story involves infidelity and children. The title tells us that someone in the neighborhood is a liar, and I am not going to spill the beans. As the author slowly unwraps the story, we see that all of the neighbors have their own issues. It is tense and un-putdownable. I will be reading more books from this author! I received this ARC book for free from Net Galley and this is my honest review.
Liar Next Door by Nicola Marsh
I always find a story about a close knit neighborhood to be interesting. Here, everyone has secrets. Some ranging from a few months old, to some they have tried to keep buried for years. In this storyline you follow the life of 3 main characters. These three women don't know it, but their secrets are more similar than they think and despite their many efforts, will be brought to light soon.
At first everyone seems so perfect, however overtime each families cracks begin to show. I liked the changing of perspectives as it helps with character development. This also was interesting when other neighbors were discussing rumors/theories about other neighbors versus what you know what was actually happening. However, I did feel like the book dragged on at times. I felt like a chunk of the book was someone constantly worried that their neighbors would find out their secret. Other than that the plot was pretty good. I slightly guessed the outcome, but overall the twists were good.
Because the book seemed to drag out at times, and could have been summarized I rate this book a 3. Was the book a little fake and unbelievable at times, yes. It’s fiction though! Sometimes things are coincidences, sometimes they are just secrets well hidden.
Thank you Nicola Marsh, Bookouture and NetGalley for the advance copy to read in return for my honest review!
The Liar Next Door is a great thriller with plenty of twists, turns, secrets and, as the title suggests, lies. This one had me hooked instantly and I raced through it at high speed all the way to the highly satisfying conclusion.
Thank you to NetGalley and Bookouture for my ARC.
This was a twisty read, I couldn’t put it down as I wanted to find out the ending. At times it annoyed me as some of the characters were so lame but, that did add to the story and I wasn’t expecting the twist at the end. I didn’t like the characters in this book at all as they seemed not to care about each other or their husbands/partners and were unite happy to sleep around. But saying that it was an enjoyable read. My thanks to Netgalley and the publishers for giving me the opportunity to read this book in return for an honest review.
To me, this book read like the storylines of a soap opera. It was just too far fetched for my taste. It was missing something.
Have thought about this more since finishing the book, I think that the problem, for me, was that here was no twist or hook that compels or drives you to keep reading. The characters, including those of the children, were all lacking depth and unsympathetic.
Perhaps this will find readers who will enjoy it and it simply wasn’t to my taste.

Thoroughly enjoyed this book. A great twisty tale of secrets and lies.
It was exciting and tantalising and kept me guessing right to the end.
It has more twist and turns than the biggest roller coaster at a well known theme park.
Hero’s and villains - who will come a cropper. That would be telling….
Highly recommended 5 stars from me.
The Liar Next Door by Nicola Marsh is sort of domestic suspense that slowly builds into a domestic thriller. The story in this one is told from multiple points of view switching between them with each chapter and also having some instances of diving into the past.
This story is one of three neighbors, Frankie, Celeste, and Saylor. The three women become friends in their neighborhood but each has their own secrets they aren’t sharing with their neighbors. Frankie, the perfect housewife and mother, has made a career on social media portraying that image. Celeste, the new neighbor who is hiding from her past. Saylor, the expectant mother to be with a loving husband.
The first thing I would say about this book is don’t pay any attention to the book blurb. I’ve actually seen two different ones for this book and neither really make much sense to me having read the story. I’m the type of reader that I add a book to my TBR and by the time I actually get to reading that one I’ve forgotten anything I may have read about it and that worked for me in this case.
Just know that if you like secrets, lies and of course some “perfect” people that are as far from perfect that you can find then this one might be for you. The story was the type that progresses at a decent pace then picks up the further you dive into the juicy details. It was suspenseful and engaging and as the twists came along it definitely kept me entertained.
I received an advance copy from the publisher via NetGalley.
This was decent. Most parts are pretty easy to figure out. I thought the ending was a little over the top. I don’t think it would be easy for someone who seems mentally unstable to give custody of their child to someone else so easily.
Also, I was confused by the writing. I thought it took place in the US, but so much of the terminology wasn’t…maybe I misread.
Overall, just ok. A quick, easy read.
Another great domestic thriller from author Nicola Marsh! Set in an insular enclave of Brooklyn, neighbors are congregating and putting their best foot forward. So many secrets, so many intertwined lives. Really good read!
Many thanks to NetGalley and Bookouture for this ARC!
As soon as I started reading this book I was hooked! Frankie, Celeste and Saylor are the main characters, all trying to live with secrets that are threatening to overpower them!
In a close neighbourhood, Ruston, Andre and Lloyd also tiptoe around truths and lies that simmer just below the surface!
Walt is an intriguing part of Frankie’s history, as the story unfolds friendships and family connections are cleverly woven together!
Nicola has written an outstanding novel that keeps on giving, a truly fabulous story sure to stay with you long after the final surprise!
Thanks to Bookouture, Netgalley and the wonderful Nicola Marsh for the opportunity to read this absolutely brilliant book!
I voluntarily read and reviewed an advanced copy of this book. All thoughts and opinions are my own.
A single mother moves into the neighborhood and integrates very quickly with her neighbor. This neighborhood is FULL of secrets.
This is a neighborhood I would not want to live in for fear of my marriage. It makes a great book though.
The Liar Next Door
“she’ll stop at nothing to take your perfect life”
A compelling and engaging story, laced with twists and intricate turns that will keep you turning the pages swiftly.
It’s a story revolving around the lives of a lifestyles blogger, a freelance accountant and a pregnant woman who reside in the same closely knit neighborhood. It a thrilling story about their baggage, their children and how their lives impact one another.
It is suspenseful right till the end. Just when you think you have all the answers, you are completely baffled. In other words, it’s super entertaining and it ticks all boxes for me..
Will I recommend it? Absolutely..

Thank you so much @netgalley for my digital review copy 🔥
Let's get right into it: the book had an interesting premise and it was good once we got to the juicy part, however it took 75% of the book to get to that, it was disappointing taking in consideration the book is only 321 pages and nothing really happened, so much so it started to feel repetitive. Not important but I have to say it: Frankie was drowning in a cup of water for what her parents "did", what's the big deal?
On the bright side, that last 25% was crazy and enjoyable! I would hate to be neighbors with these people, if you find people like that just run like hell. I was thinking to myself "Come on! You too? I thought you were good!!" 😅 I liked how it all connected and even if it's not plausible in real life, it made sense. The great thing about the multiple POVs and terrible people was that you might have suspicions but you can't trust anyone 🤗
I have very mixed feelings with some topics of the book, like cheating and manipulation and just utter evil and the book puts it like "hey! Nobody is perfect, we all make mistakes". WHAT?? 🤯
Recommended if you want to explore the nitty-gritty of this close knit neighborhood 👌
This story revolves around three women, two of whom have sweet, good looking husbands. But somehow, they are keeping secrets from them. The book read like an infinite circle, where one neighbor thinks she has the biggest secret only to find out the neighbor next door has a secret as big as hers, and the next neighbor as well. I loved how the author weaved an intricate storyline and managed to keep all of the pieces straight. I loved the threat of blackmail running through the book, and couldn't wait to find out who was blackmailing whom. The characters I thought I liked turned out to be not so admirable, and the one I was leery of turned out to be a good guy.
This was my second book by this author, and I can't wait for the next one!
Thanks to NetGalley and Bookouture for an advanced reader's copy for review.
Everyone has secrets, and in The Liar Next Door, you quickly get the feeling everyone is a liar.
In a neighborhood where everyone feels safe and close, there is plenty of deceit and adultery beneath the surface. Throughout the book, we follow three women, two mothers end one soon-to-be, as they grapple with the men in their lives and each of their own past decisions.
This book is perfect for fans of Liane Moriarty, and there were certainly well developed and entertaining characters! Fun ending, but I would have preferred more unexpected twists as most provided in the book were anticipated.
Overall, an easy read that unfolds neatly.

The Liar Next Door by Nicola Marsh is a psychological thriller with a web of lies that threatens to tear apart a seemingly close-knit community. Thirty houses surround a square garden that is the perfect playground for the kids. They gather there for holidays and community parties. It is there that Frankie Forbes meets Celeste. Little did she know that Celeste would tear apart their family piece by piece. There were signs and gut feelings that told Frankie that something was wrong from the beginning. She was too nice, too eager to join in and she seemed to know the things Frankie’s daughter liked and disliked. But why couldn’t she trust another mother? Meanwhile, Saylor, newlywed and pregnant, has a secret of her own and she must act quickly as someone is threatening to expose her and ruin her and her family. Secrets have a way of being discovered no matter how hard they are buried and hidden. How does this woman seem to know Frankie’s? Will Saylor be able to protect her secret?
Who is the liar next door? Nicola Marsh can always be counted on for a great psychological thriller! I read and reviewed My Sister’s Husband last year and loved it. So when the opportunity to read The Liar Next Door came up, I had to read it! Told from the point of views of the three women, the reader is taken on a journey of twists and turns, ups and downs, as the web of lies is slowly untangled. As the story unfolds, there were a few clues that I was able to figure out but when the final stretch of the story begins and the secrets are revealed, there were shockers! From the beginning, Frankie, Celeste and Saylor are women you don’t know if you can trust as they present their point of view. Like a slow burning fuse, the story starts off slowly and gains speed as the women begin to interact until the powder keg explodes, the secrets are revealed and the masks are pulled off. I highly recommend The Liar Next Door.
The Liar Next Door is available August 23 in eBook and audiobook.

I am excited to be taking part in the #BooksOnTour #BlogTour for Nicola Marsh's untputdownable domestic suspense THE LIAR NEXT DOOR.
As an Australia author, I assumed this book would be set here in the land down under but it is actually set in the north eastern states of America - New York, Connecticut and Long Island. Though to be honest, I can't recall where exactly the main setting of Hambridge Heights is, though where ever it may be it's only a two hour drive from New Haven. I assume it must be in a quiet leafy suburb of New York State since one of the characters often commutes to Manhattan.
But locales aside, THE LIAR NEXT DOOR sweeps you up into it's web from the very first page. And the tangled web in which we find ourselves entangled is a very sticky one to say the least. Just about everyone in the book is a liar...so which of them is "the liar next door"? One of them or all of them?
The opening prologue is intriguing, offering us nothing but the vague nuances of an onlooker from next door as the police tear into their quiet street, sirens blaring and lights flashing. If anyone were asleep they would certainly be awake now, twitching the curtains to get a good glimpse of the excitement unfolding before their eyes. But which of the neighbours is the one reflecting? It's not made entirely clear though I believe it to be the one left behind...
Frankie Forbes has the perfect life. Married to the gorgeous Andre with a delightful 5 year old daughter Luna. Lives in a beautiful brownstone in an exclusive area within a small community that looks out for each other. A lifestyle vlogger who personifies perfection in her live streams and videos, sharing tips on everything from fashion to cooking to motherhood...basically life in general. Her perfect life, her perfect marriage, her perfect daughter and perfect house are example of that perfect life that is symbolised online.
But it hasn't always been perfect. On her 18th birthday, Frankie arrived home to a surprise she never expected nor did she expect the revelations her mother revealed after she told her what she had seen. Her party had already been arranged and despite not wanting to celebrate, she tolerated it in front of all her parents' friends and the images that wouldn't escape her now she knew the truth about them. But that day also gave her a special gift she wasn't expecting...it was the day she met Walter nestled in the corner of her garden in the dark. It was that moment that changed her life. Together they escaped to a new life and six months later they were married. But less than four years later, Frankie realised as fond as she was of dependable unflappable Walter, she was in love with him. And so they went their separate ways but have always remained friends.
Now, Frankie is married to Andre and moved away to Hambridge Heights to begin a new life together. But deep inside Frankie has a secret. One that no one in their tight knit community knows. Not her friends, not her husband and definitely not her online viewers. If it were to come out, her life would be ruined.
Celeste is newly arrived in the neighbourhood, a single mother to shy 5 year old Violette, moving in next door to Frankie and Andre. Not knowing anyone in the community, Celeste is eager to make friends with her new neighbours and for their daughters to become best of friends. She is tight-lipped about her past but she has hinted to running from a relationship that ended up especially messy, hence their escape for a new start. But little Violette misses her father a great deal and begs her mother for a reconciliation so she may have the longed-for sibling she so often alludes to.
And then there is newly-married Saylor, a 25 year old young woman married to Lloyd and is five months pregnant with their first child. Moving into the house on the other side of Frankie just six weeks before, they hold a gender reveal party where they invite and meet their new neighbours. Running from her past, Saylor also has a secret she is keeping from her attentive and dependable husband. And then she sees a face from her past at their party who apparently lives in the neighbourhood. Did she move here on the pretext of seeing him again? Or is there a far deeper secret that she is keeping from her husband?
Don't be fooled by any of these women - they are all hiding something, making each one of them a liar. But then so are the men in their lives. It appears every single one of these people are liars. It's like an episode of Days of our Lives with all the to-ing and fro-ing, secrets and lies, blackmailing...and not to mention bed-hopping...going on! But these three women are inextricably linked, not just by being neighbours, but in other ways of which some of them are oblivious too.
The story unfolds through the eyes of each woman - Frankie, Celeste and Saylor - respectively. The only difference is that with Frankie's story we, as the reader, are privy to her past in her chapters which are marked "Then". So what beholds Frankie to these women? Which aspect of her past binds them? How and why? The questions continue to mount with each turn of the page as twist after twist propels us deeper into the story.
While THE LIAR NEXT DOOR begins at a relatively steady pace, it is a gradual build before the story really takes hold barreling us head first till the end. At first, I felt more invested in Frankie's past than in the present day story but that was merely to lull the reader into a false sense of security. There is no attempt to hide the fact that each of these women are inherently flawed characters, sometimes virtually unlikeable, though each are trying to make the best out of the bad choices and impulsive decisions they have made.
Honestly? I wasn't particularly enamoured by any of the women...probably because I knew they were all hiding something. If I had to choose one, it would be Frankie but then that may well be because we got more of her backstory so we could understand her better. Doesn't mean I approved of her choices but it helped empathising with her predicament. Of the men, one maybe two of them ended up surprising me! But my favourite of them all was Walter. Dear sweet dependable Walter. I didn't trust either Celeste or Saylor and I found myself tossing my ideas left, right and centre to see which one made the most sense of how they fit into the bigger picture. I puzzled it out correctly...all except for a couple of things, one of which I didn't see coming at all! But then the story was presented in such a way our focus is elsewhere that we end up taking our eye off the ball in another aspect.
Very cleverly written, THE LIAR NEXT DOOR is perfectly plotted and fast paced right up to the end. It is intense throughout with a satisfying conclusion. Nicola Marsh is a new-to-me author but if this book is anything to go by, I shall have to keep an eye out for more!
Right up there with Shalini Boland and Kim Slater, THE LIAR NEXT DOOR is a fantabulous tale of secrets, lies and deception at every turn. And it just takes the pull of one thread for the rest of the lies and the secrets to unravel bit by bit, piece by piece. Completely unputdownable and a highly addictive read.
Perfect for fans of Shalini Boland, K.L. Slater and domestic suspense thrillers.
I would like to thank #NicolaMarsh, #NetGalley and #Bookouture for an ARC of #TheLiarNextDoor in exchange for an honest review.
I would like to start by thanking Netgalley and Bookouture for my digital ARC of this book.
This is a domestic mystery novel surrounding 3 characters i.e. Frankie, Celeste and Saylor. The story is told from 3 different POVs Frankie, Celeste & Saylor, who are part of a close-knit community. Each one of them has secrets which can be devastating for them. Very few of these secrets are easy to guess. But, more often than not there will be a big reveal that will leave you shocked. There were a few times when I reread a paragraph because I couldn't comprehend the twist. The moment you like you've worked it all out, there is another big reveal which squashes all your assumptions. There is even a twist in the epilogue which is so unfair because now I want more! The story jumps between 2 timelines, laying out Frankie's past which, although not very interesting, is definitely useful to connect the dots.
The author managed to create a lot anticipation about what comes next. Due to this, the book was very difficult to put down. I had a lot more fun reading this than I'd expected. The author has built the characters really well, which makes it easy to relate with them and be hooked right from the first chapter.
This is the first time I have read a book by Nicole Marsh and it was quite impressive. I would love to read more from the author.

A domestic thriller with enough suspense to keep you hooked! It takes time to actually get to the crux of the story but the short chapters and multiple PoVs help the flow of the book and made it a quick read for me.
This book is full of secrets . Each chapter ends with something like "wait till they find out my secret"
The twist/secret in the end and the blackmailer took me by surprise...and it all comes out pretty well in the end!
Thank you Netgalley and the publishers for this arc in exchange for my honest opinion.
