Lies, secrets, deception, affairs, & blackmail. There are plenty of twists and turns in this book - maybe too many? Regardless, this book will keep you on your toes and turning the page so you can uncover the secrets (yes, plural).
The story is centered around three women and their families, all neighbors, and the chapters alternate between each woman’s perspective. All three of them have a big secret to hide, and those secrets are consistently teased in every chapter. It keeps you turning the page, but by the time you’re halfway through the book, the secrets feel like a carrot that has been dangling in front of you for far too long, and you’re getting really tired of trying to grab it.
It’s an addicting, quick read. Thank you to NetGalley for this ARC in exchange for an honest review!
“In a neighborhood this small we’ll probably find out eventually. Besides I’ve learned not to delve too deep into other people’s business. You might not like what you find.”
The brownstone homes with the perfect courtyard for family gatherings, play dates and more is where Frankie, Saylor and Celeste all live. Celeste and Saylor are both fairly new to the neighborhood and both seem to have some secrets lying within their closed door homes.
Frankie and her husband Andre have had their fair share of secrets and ups and downs in their lives as well. Although you would never know it if you were one of Frankie’s thousands of social media viewers on her perfectionist scones, secret vegetable blended smoothies, and beauty tips galore! She portrays that confident influencer lifestyle so well. Frankie keeps in touch with her previous husband, Walt, but only because she knows she shattered his heart.
Celeste just wants the best for her daughter Vi. Even if that means creating lots of opportunities for her to become best friends with Frankie’s daughter Luna. She has hinted with the other women in the neighborhood that she was running from something, maybe her ex, Vi’s father. She keeps the women intrigued enough to want to support her, but never gives enough details to know what really happened and what she may be escaping from.
Saylor is pregnant and trying to enjoy this wonderful time in her life. It’s what she has always wanted, a family! Something from her past seems to be haunting her as well too. The neighbors begin to notice the way she looks at the man across the street, Ruston. Is there a past there? What could their connection be?
When the book was about 80% done I was hooked! I couldn’t wait to find out how all of the secrets intertwined and exploded!
The Liar Next Door was a great book that I couldn’t put down. The story is about three women, who live in the same neighborhood, two are mothers and one will soon be one. All three women are hiding secrets from one another and their families and how all their secrets and lies are tied together. It also has a surprising ending. Thanks Netgalley for this arc.
What a tangled web of liars. I enjoyed The Liar Next Door. I like the 3 diff POV’s, but I wasn’t invested in the characters as much as the plot. The author did a good job at weaving the story lines together which is what kept me turning each page. Def can’t wait to read more by Nicola Marsh.
Thanks NetGalley for the opportunity to read an early release of The Liar Next Door!
Wow another great book from this author. Very tense throughout and I loved the characters and all their flaws. I couldn’t read this quickly enough and loved finally finding out the complicated story of these neighbors. Definitely a five star read
Wow what a neighborhood. This book provides many threads that are woven, and unwoven throughout the story. Told from primarily 3 different POV''s Frankie, Celeste and Saylor in two different time periods previous and now. The plot centers around 3 women, and their stories told in alternate chapters. The two married women are concerned about their relationships with their husbands, feeling boredom, lack of excitement, or trust. All women are focused on the past as well as the future with the male's in their lives. The threads continue to be woven through the book and then are wrapped up neatly at the end with a trail leading towards a potential future book.
The lies, the impact on people and the utter understanding by some women is a bit out there but the story line keeps the reader engaged and flipping through chapters to try to figure out the spin of the story. Some of the plot is easier to figure out but the sheer magnitude of the lies and interwoven stories seem to be really out there and continually unravels all the way to the end. I was so involved with our three women: their friendships, their relationships and their secrets. I knew that there were all sort of hidden things going on and, while I was right about a couple of them, some took me completely by surprise. If the reader is looking for a fast paced, page turner this is a definite read for you.
I wish to express my thanks to NetGalley and Bookouture for the ARC of this psychological thriller in return for an honest review.
Wow! This book kept me turning pages in wonderment-I finished this in one day.
A perfect summer read about two moms and a soon to be mom who live in the same neighborhood. On the surface they seem like average people. However their neighborhood is teeming with SO. MANY. LIES. Who to believe? As I read, a couple times I thought I knew where the story was going, and then a twist would prove me wrong. Full of intrigue and surprises. Four and a half stars from me for this page turner that will keep you wondering!
The synopsis of this book drew me in. And I must admit I seldom read domestic thrillers or thrillers in general. But I really enjoyed this book., with all its twists and turns. The author, Nicola Marsh, does a Great Job describing peoples complex lives. She gives us a rare view into their brains what makes them tick and how far they are willing to go to protect themselves and their loved ones. I wanted to pick their brains more. Are they twisted or are they normal? Read the book and you Will find out
Thank you to netgalley for letting me read this e arc in exchange for an honest opinion
WTAF did I just waste my life reading?
And WTF did someone waste their life writing it? 😩😭
The Liar Next Door is just plain idiocy at its finest. This is the most unbelievable, outlandish, inconceivable bullshit I have possibly ever read. Not one thing that happened in this book was remotely realistic or even feasible. And these twists were more like whiplash and a broken neck. Things kept getting thrown in like, “Oh, yeah, and this happened…” but with zero build up or reasoning in relation to the plot.
Oh, and If one more bitch said to herself that she couldn’t let her secret be found out, I would have literally thrown my Kindle into the street and ran over it myself.
10/10 Do not recommend.
2/5 ✨
This compelling novel revolves around the residents of a neighborhood square, Hambridge Heights. The story is told from three of the neighbor-women’s perspectives: Frankie, Celeste, and Saylor. As we get enmeshed in their lives, we wonder, who is the liar next door? No spoilers!
Thanks to @netgalley and @nicolamarsh for the ARC of The Liar Next Door!
This fun read gave me Desperate Housewives vibes from the start. The Liar Next Door should be your next breezy beach read.
Told in three voices, each chapter was short yet compelling. Anytime I thought I had something figured out, something new was thrown into the mix.
The Liar Next Door will be published August 23, 2021.
Nicola Marsh is the Queen of twists and turns. And boy does this book have them.
The story is centred around a small community. Where neighbours come together in the central square. Frankie has been there for years and seems to have the perfect life. Then two more women join the fold. Celeste and her young daughter Violette. The other recently married Saylor and her husband Lloyd, who are expecting their first child.
There is so much happening in this book. You will find it a quick read as you desperately want to figure the ending.
Many thanks to the publisher and Netgalley for the opportunity to see an arc.
I absolutely loved this book and it kept me wanting to finish it :)
Can’t wait for more from this author thank u
The Liar Next Door focuses on the lives and lies of the close-knit community members. They all seem to have something to hide.
Although I found the plot somewhat predictable, I enjoyed the story and found the character development to be perfect so I was hooked on their individual lives. I enjoyed reading this book and found myself wanting to keep reading.
Definitely recommend!
* I received an advanced reader’s copy of this book from Bookouture and NetGalley in exchange for my honest review
Slow to start but worth the wait, a complex novel about secrets in surburbia.
A really enjoyable read, lighter than similar books in the genre but definitely satisfying.
Thank you netgalley and publisher for opportunity to read and review this arc honestly.
I honestly don’t know where to start. The story was great, kept me intrigued for the most part. The characters weren’t bad or over the top stereotypical so that was good. But there were parts that I felt were very repetitive, especially the first half of the book. I understand wanting to keep the reader invested but it almost seemed like maybe the editor missed parts that may have gotten moved around, so a lot of things were constantly repeated. It did hold my attention and I finished it quickly without delaying or reading another book in between, so that’s good. My only main criticism is what I mentioned above and a few words being overused constantly.
This book was got my attention from beginning to the end. A friendly nieghbourhood isn't all it seems on the surface. Mums meeting up in the park to chat, baby showers thrown for neighbours, who would suspect they are all harbouring secrets. Some secrets so big the outcome if they are known will blow families apart. One neighbour has a hidden agenda, one which will have a major impact on one of them.
This is my first book by this author and won;t be my last. I am hoping there will be another book to follow on the lives of the characters in this book.
My first time reading a Nicola Marsh novel and it will not be the last. Awesome book! Hard to put down! Lies, secrets, twists, deceit, betrayal, and excellent characters. Holy cow - I didn't want it to end!!! Domestic suspense, with great twists and turns - a good novel to just forget about everything else going on in life --- or sleep - just cozy up on the sofa and dig in - this novel grips you from the start and doesn't let you go! Simply -- hard to put down and just makes you want to keep reading. I stayed up way to late finishing this novel and I have no regrets!
Thank you #NetGalley and #Bookouture for the ARC!!
I couldn’t put this book down! The twists, the characters, the suspense - it was thrilling from start to finish. I’m usually iffy about alternating times / Narrators but this was done so well. Loved it!
Secrets and lies lurk in every chapter of this story. Nicola Marsh tells this story from multiple perspectives and across time periods adding the perfect amount of suspense and chilling plot twists! Lies will surface. Guilty parties will learn their fates. Who would have ever thought that among one brownstone community so many secrets can be woven into a thrilling storyline. I loved it! I especially loved the surprise ending that surfaced in the epilogue!
