The Lucky Escape is a well written and fun romantic comedy about second chances and finding your happy ever after, even if it isn't the one that you thought you would have.
Annie had thought the next chapter in her life was beginning as the days counted down to her wedding day to Alexander. However, after being left at the alter, Annie's world and future seems to be crumbling in front of her. Pushing through, Annie begins to drown her sorrows by throwing herself into working out at the gym where she bumps into her old friend, Patrick. Patrick brings a spark back into her life and a sense of who she once was. With her new outlook on life, Annie continues on with her planned honeymoon--with Patrick.
While Patrick and Annie's younger sister stole the show for me, Annie seemed to fall a little short. While I understand not being in the best state of mind after being left by your now-former-fiance, her morals and standards seemed to be all over. Between being body positive, but also ashamed of her own body and appearance, there were several things like this that made her seem not to take a stance on something and stick to it. I was also incredibly excited to get to the fun honeymoon part, but it seemed to take a while and didn't last as long as I wanted.
Despite these small issues I had, it was a fun and entertaining story of someone finding themselves and a second chance at love. Their romance was cute and believable, if a little rushed after just coming out of a horrific break up.
Thank you to NetGalley and the publisher for an advance copy of The Lucky Escape!
Cancelled weddings always make for a fun beginning to a novel! After Annie's wedding is cancelled, she decides to take a n out of the blue trip with her old friend Patrick. Annie finally starts to see that she has gotten somethings in her life wrong, but is now ready to others so right. Very fun and lighthearted!
Thanks to Netgalley and Harper 360 for the ARC of #TheLuckyEscape.
I expected more of a fun, getaway romance but this book wasn't really that. It was a lot heavier than I expected. I also really struggled to connect with Annie, she felt too indecisive for me. But, it was a fine read that had some positive points. I did enjoy reading about the vacation and the setting was enjoyable. I could have done with a little more character development. I am confident others will find this to be a great book! I just expected something a little different from the synopsis.
The beginning of the book was great. It felt compelling. But the more I got into the more detached I felt from the characters and the story. Communication could have been better and I didn't sense much chemistry. I feel like this is the book that you take on vacation when you just need to read something.
The Lucky Escape is a quick, light romance novel. It was a bit on the slow side for me and I had difficulty re;ating to the characters. That said, this is a great beach read that you'll be happy you picked up@ Thank you to NetGalley, the author, and publisher for an advanced reader copy of this book for an honest review.
This was an enjoyable read. I’d like to read more from this author based on their believable storylines and their unique and well developed characters.
This book had me hooked from page one, very charming! I consumed it in about one day, and it was so fun to read. Have already recommended to friends!
Another great book by Laura Jane Williams. I really enjoyed seeing the character development throughout the book. I wanted to keep reading to see what would happen next.
This book was nothin like I expected but I thoroughly enjoyed it. I did read this book on vacation and it was a perfect beach read, especially during the honeymoon part. This romantic comedy book was fun, entertaining and would make a great movie as well!
What I loved about this book:
-Patrick and Annie's chemistry
-how brave Annie is
-Annie's family and friends
What I didn't love about this book:
-the honeymoon part was shorter than I would've liked
-Annie and Alexander's miscommunication and lack of maturity in their relationship
I can't wait to read more by this author!
Super cute romance. No one wants to be left at the alter, but to still be able to go on your honeymoon with a hot guy you knew 20 years ago. Heck yes! Not ready for romance or to get back into a relationship yet? Who cares just go and have fun. Great read!
They say to not judge a book by its cover and I did just that. This cover really drew me to this book. This was a little slower then what I would have liked but I enjoyed it. It was fun and cute. It kept me entertained.
Laura Jane Williams came on to my radar in 2019 with Our Stop, which was delightful. She has created another delightful story with The Lucky Escape! I particularly enjoyed the second chance story line and how relatable the main character is. She wallowed in the same way I would've done. I will definitely be purchasing this book for my library and can already think of several readers to hand it to!
This was a decent read. I was expecting a light hearted, easy romantic read but what I got was not really that, which was definitely a bit misleading. It's a bit more heavy than what I would have liked. All in all, it was okay.
In this book a jilted bride goes on a honeymoon solo and finds love again. Is this a life changing, new territory treading book? I mean no, no it’s not. Is it a lot of fun? Why yes it is! Recommend for rom com lovers of all ages.
After Annie is abandoned at the alter, she takes her honeymoon with an old friend. And that’s about all you need to know…this was fine. I wasn’t super impressed - I feel like “the scorned woman on her honeymoon falls in love again” has been done before. It also felt long at times. I just wasn’t a fan.
Thanks to @NetGalley and Harper 360 for my ARC!
Wasn't the biggest fan of it, especially the main character. I found her to be irritating and indecisive.
This was billed as a jilted bride/solo honeymoon story but I found myself waiting for the honeymoon longer than I wanted. In hindsight I think that set up the characters and relationships better than just whisking Annie away, but it did make me a little frustrated while reading. Happily, the honeymoon part is as great as expected, and then we come back to London and I felt like her job became this almost forced character, the fight was odd and didn’t to quite fit, and the flat a little too perfect. But! After Australia I was just rooting so hard for them - I adored Patrick - and so I really didn’t care as long as it made things work out happily in the end.
Unfortunately I just couldn’t get into this book. The writing just wasn’t for me.
The characters calling each other by nicknames all the time was just bizarre to me, and I just didn’t vibe with the story.
Thank you Netgalley for the eARC in exchange for an honest opinion.
Your long time partner turned fiancé leaves you the day of your wedding. Do you go on your already booked honeymoon? Do you go alone or bring a friend. This is Annie’s situation as the book starts out.
This book definitely brought out all the feels. The heartbreak, the healing, the self love, just to name a few. Annie is very relatable and I loved Patrick! This is such a great book about finding oneself and finding love.
This was such a quick and cute rom com read. I enjoyed the vacation vibes even being in the cold of November. I would definitely recommend this book!
Thank you to NetGalley and Harper 360 for the eARC for me to review.
My favorite kind of reads are vacation books. Annie gets left at the alter by her fiance, but still has this amazing honeymoon that is already paid for. After a chance encounter with a friend from the past, she takes a risk and invites him on the trip. I was living vicariously through Annie as she had an amazing 3 week luxury vacation in Australia! Of course, the romance between Patrick and Annie was a nice addition. I was rooting for them the whole time.
