✨ I have been put off to read the book so long but now I have tried to finish it.
It took me awhile to finish everything as it was very slow paced and I have to admit it’s a good book if you want to dozed if easily.

Thank you NetGalley and Polis Books for allowing me to read this book.Hiding Place is the 2nd book in the Hector Lewis series.Hector Lewis is obsessed with uncovering the truth of what happened to his wife and daughter fifteen years ago.For readers who haven't read the first book, it may get confusing at times. It was a quick moving thriller that left me wanting to keep going each time I finished a chapter.

To start with, this book has a good mystery plot but I had no idea that this is a second in a series. Most parts I felt like information was missing or unclear as I assume it was part of the first book.

But overall this is a good novel with unpredictable twists and turns all the way. The writing style was very smooth and gripping as well. Will definitely read the first in the series too.

Thanks to Netgalley and Polis Books for the copy of this e book in exchange for a review. I don’t know why it took me until now to read it but I’ve finished it in a day and I can’t wait for the next story featuring Hector and his quest to find his family. This is the second book in this series, and having not read the first, there was references to the previous storyline but it didn’t impact on me as a reader.
The setting of Yellowstone, the small town, the strong character development and changing view points of narrating characters throughout the book all contributed to an enthralling and thrilling read. I also enjoyed the Native American themes through this book and how this can contribute to someone’s views and perceptions of situations in the book. Absolutely recommend this book.

Hiding Place is the second book in the Hector Lewis series by Meghan Holloway. I have not read the first book but will definitely go back and read it now! Hector Lewis is still investigating the disappearance of his wife and daughter 15 years ago. He thought a serial killer was responsible for their disappearance but new evidence has come up that needs investigating. Faye Anders and her son are in hiding and then one thing happens that can change everything and upset the sheltered life they were living. A real page turner!

ARC kindly received via NetGalley for an honest review.

This was a very interesting read and had really good characters. This kept me interested and invested in the story and what would happen next. The ending was not what I expected. Enjoyed this one and would like to read more from this author.

Hiding Place is the second in the trilogy of the Hector Lewis suspense/thriller novels by Meghan Holloway, and just like the first book Hunting Ground, this is a fast-paced page turner! As Hector continues searching for his wife and daughter who disappeared 15 years ago, another mystery develops in Raven's Gap - with deadly results. Innkeeper Faye and her son Sam have a past they won't divulge adn are trying to stay ahead of a person from their past and the law. Hector finds clues that his wife left him - nothing is more chilling than seeing a packet labelled "if something happens to me, read this". As he unravels the clues she left, powerful people are willing to do whatever it takes to silence he and Faye forever.

This could be read as a stand-alone, as the author give brief backgrounds on the characters. I do think the reader would enjoy this book more if Hunting Ground was read first. Thanks to the author and Polis books for the ARC of this book - pub date is 8/10/21. Looking forward to the conclusion next year!

Meghan Holloway’s Hiding Place is her second installment in the Hector Lewis trilogy. This return to Raven’s Gap features a familiar cast of characters along with the author’s trademark of vivid scene setting, moral dilemmas, and tightly plotted twists.

Faye Anders, the quiet, mysterious innkeeper with a silent son and a penchant for weapons, comes to the forefront in this story when she only had a secondary role in the first book. The complexity of this character kept me engrossed. She is a haunting character with layers of vulnerability and struggle, but also a female protagonist who is completely relatable. The thorny, fraught dynamic of motherhood is explored in a unique, uncertain voice through Faye’s perspective.

Hector Lewis’s quest to uncover the truth behind his wife and daughter’s disappearance fifteen years ago seems to have come to a dead end at the close of the previous story. But a hidden key and flash drive spark a journey into the hotly contested boundary lands of Yellowstone National Park. The past and present collide as Hector searches for answers in the clues his wife left him, putting him directly in the path of a man with unlimited resources, relentless ambitions, and no qualms about keeping his secrets buried.

I enjoyed the deeper insight into Winona Lewis’s character in this story, as seen through the lens of two different men. In Hunting Ground, the reader is transported to Yellowstone in the brutal depths of winter. In Hiding Place, we are given a glimpse of the wondrous beauty and chilling dangers of spring in the ecosystem. The change in seasons echoes the growth we see in Hector’s character in this story. He is still ruthless, still morally ambiguous, still a man whose actions are cold and questionable but whose motives are entirely understandable. But the reader also sees him grappling with his loss more in this story and gaining a self awareness about his use and disregard for others. The white wolf Hector sees is an incredibly powerful, symbolic image, perhaps all in his mind or perhaps a real creature of flesh and blood. I appreciate the fact that we are as uncertain as Hector about her existence. Frank, his dauntless standard poodle sidekick, continues to be his constant.

Holloway’s latest novel is a thrill ride, a seamless amalgamation of introspection and high octane action. While the mystery revolving around Faye and her son reaches a breathtaking conclusion, Hector’s story remains open-ended. The epilogue sets the scene for what promises to be an engrossing, highly anticipated grand finale.

Highly recommended for fans of exciting, action-packed crime fiction with a strong focus on characters

This is the second in the series which I did not read the first of. It can be a stand alone.

This book is about Hector, a cop, who lost his wife and daughter a decade and a half ago. For some reason he feels like he needs to start investigating it on his own even after all this time. Mainly because he is finding notes his wife left him before her death. The case is cold but she continues to investigate. Faye is now living in the same town with her son under a false identity.

I think this falls under the romantic suspense genre more than thriller. I am not sure why but I never really connected with either main character. I really wanted to. I liked the idea of the book. It seemed to have a bit of a different storyline than traditional romantic suspense.

I will give the next in the series a try hoping to connect a bit with the new characters.

When I requested this book, I didn't realize that it was the 2nd book in a series. However, it could easily be read as a stand-alone.

This book centers on Hector, who has been trying to find out what happened to his wife and daughter after they went missing 15 years ago; and Faye, who is on the run with her young son. Although their stories are different, they become somewhat intertwined because the antagonist has connections to both of them.

This was a decent mystery, although one of the discoveries that Hector makes was too disturbing for me and I had to skip over those parts. I was more interested in Faye's story and learning about what happened to make her go into hiding. The ending wrapped things up pretty well, although there were a few loose ends so I'm guessing there will be a 3rd book in the series.

I loved that there was a white wolf who showed up in various parts of the story, and I learned that Standard Poodles can be search and rescue dogs!

Thank you Netgalley for the advanced copy of this book in exchange for my honest review.

I have been on a roll with some killer reads! The Hiding Place, was nothing short of a five star read. Meghan Holloway, you out did yourself with this one!

Hector is determined to figure out the truth regarding what actually happened to his daughter and wife 15 years ago. Hector finds a message his wife had left him and he starts to find the clues she left behind that lead Hector into Yellowstone Park.

Faye has been hiding out in a quiet town in Montana. When Faye's son goes missing she is faced with a difficult decision to face the man she fled for her safety from years ago.

What do these two people have in common? You are going to have to pick up your copy on August 10, to see!
I promise, you will not be disappointed !

I couldn't really get into this book, though it contained a good mystery. I didn't realize it was the 2nd in a series and I did not read the first one, but others have said that it works as a standalone. It centers primarily on Hector, whose wife and daughter disappeared 15 years ago and were assumed to have been killed by a known serial killer, though their bodies were never found. He finds messages his wife left for him before her disappearance and decides to investigate on his own. Faye is the 2nd protagonist, though she is less prevalent in the overall story than Hector is- she is on the run with her young son and living under an assumed identity in the same town.

This was a good story with suspense and surprise, and I liked the ending, but I think the reason I couldn't get fully engaged was that I didn't feel a major connection with either of the main characters, and (without giving anything away) I also wasn't super interested in the crime that we find out is being covered up, which tied back to Hector's wife disappearance. Though the book was well-written, these things kept me from being really excited about it.

Overall, not for me but a well-written book-- and other reviews put me in the minority. It's definitely more of a mystery than a police procedural, even though Hector is a cop. Thanks to Netgalley for providing me a copy of this book in exchange for an honest review.

I didn’t realize this was the second book in a series until I started reading it, but it stands on its own just fine. The mystery was engaging and kept me hooked. It was interesting reading from the point of view of a villain as well as the protagonists.
