Morning book fam! It’s a snow day here ❄️ , have you guys gotten any crazy weather this week? I’m about to start a new novel and wanted to get this review up for you guys before I start my next one. ⠀⠀
⠀⠀
“Electric Idol” by Kate’s Robards is set to release this month, and I had the pleasure (pun intended 🤔) to read an advanced copy . — thank you @netgalley ! ⠀⠀
⠀⠀
This is second book in the Dark Olympus series, the first book being “Neon Gods” centring on Hades and Persephone . ⠀⠀
⠀⠀
Book 2 is all about Psyche & Eros- one of my all time favourite myths . ⠀⠀
⠀⠀
If you’re here for a retelling similar to the myth, that’s not what this is . Eros is a dark character, a fixer and does the bidding of his power hungry mother, Aphrodite . It follows the myth that Psyche offends Aphrodite by being more beautiful and Aphrodite orders her to be killed. What happens instead is Psyche and Eros fall in love thanks to Cupid . In this modern tale they use a marriage of convenience to stop Aphrodite from killing her . Because apparently her line is not murdering her son’s wife . ⠀⠀
⠀⠀
I really enjoyed this book, even more so than Neon Gods because it felt like there was more plot. Aka it wasn’t just about sex, for me there was more substance . ⠀⠀
⠀⠀
My only gripe is that I couldn’t quite figure out where fantasy and reality came together . Are they real Gods with powers? Or just power hungry immortals? They’re physically described as otherworldly, and live in Olympus — but Olympus is basically described as somewhere like New York . I don’t recall anyone have magical/special abilities . I’d you’ve read either book and Dan provide clarity- please help a woman out 😂 ⠀⠀
⠀⠀
Eros is one of my new fav fictional characters. I do love me a dark and damaged man 😆 and his chemistry with Psyche was 🌶 x5. ⠀⠀
⠀

Electric Idol was the perfect first romance of 2022. I needed something to distract my anxious brain, and Eros and Psyche were the perfect distraction.
Electric Idol, which is a modern reimagining of the myth of Psyche and Eros, is one part star-crossed lover, one part marriage of convenience, and one part pure heat. It all adds up to a scorching hot, gods-damn delight. Robert has a true knack for creating compelling contemporary counterparts to the ancient deities--with all their foibles and vendettas and penchant for drama. They feel modern and classic, all at once. Katie's unique spin on the Greek mythos is just *chefs kiss.*
If you loved Neon Gods, Electric Idol will not disappoint. I didn't think Katie could top Neon Gods, but honestly, I may love Electric Idol even more! There's something so beautiful about a couple that truly embrace the best in each other--and the worst. And did I mention the curvy girl representation?! Psyche doesn't fit the standard Olympus beauty mold, and while it's taken her awhile, she's fully present and comfortable in her skin. And Eros is HERE FOR IT. (Content warning: there are a handful of fatphobic comments made by other characters in the book, but it's very obviously NOT COOL™.)

Lovers of Neon Gods by Katee Robert will be delighted to hear the follow up Electric Idol is just as wickedly fun.
Social media influence Psyche has an issue: Aphrodite wants her heart after making headlines with her son Eros. Eros's solution to not killing her? Marrying her in a full fledged ceremony and everything that comes with it. Psyche really did not set her sights on marrying the city's highly immoral killer. Eros didn't plan on losing his savageness and opening his heart up to Psyche. As family boundaries and morals change, both characters realize that they may be in for a deal that either could not have bargained for.
Haven't yet read either of the Dark Olympus books? You're in for a treat with Electric Idol! Roberts writes character storylines that make you want to root for the characters. A plus size heroine with no shame with who she is? A male that really thinks it's "f'd" that she gets openly humiliated? Readers trust me, you WANT to add this next installment to your book shelves.

I was super excited to read this second installment of the Dark Olympus series. The beautiful and monstrous Eros and his lady love Psyche. It was great to be back in the land of Olympus and this intriguing world the author has created. The blend of world-building , character growth, and plot development was just as satisfying as in the first book in this series, Neon Gods. Lots of heat and an epilogue that made me smile big. Can't wait to see what romantic shenanigans future installments contain.

HOLY WOW. This book is incredible. I thought Neon Gods was fun, but predictable because there's a ton of Hades x Persephone stories happening right now. Electric Idol, though, was INCREDIBLE.
The I was sent to kill you but I can't do it so I'm marrying you to protect you story was EVERYTHING. It was so inspiring to see a main character like Psyche who was stunningly beautiful and extraordinarily badass. She's not afraid of who she is and seeing a plus size heroine like Psyche was everything I needed to see. And then there's Eros, beautiful, sexy Eros. Honestly, he was such a refreshing love interest that I want more of him!
Okay and the spice. Top. Notch. Katee Robert has this talent for writing smut, and I mean that in the best way. It's equal parts spicy and intimate, and all the talk of consent is exactly what we need to be seeing in the romance community.
Suffice it to say, Katee Robert has become an auto-buy author for me and I NEED the next books!!!

Y’all.
I think I loved this even more than Neon Gods, and that says SO MUCH, because I adored that one.
But this?
Eros has stolen my whole heart, and I honestly don’t think I’ll be getting it back anytime soon.
I also gotta give KR a HUGE round of applause, because Psyche really did give me a realistic portrayal of a plus size girl, and I appreciated that so much, especially since I’m plus size myself. I saw my own struggles, but also my own triumphs and I felt right at home.
In the midst of all of these feelings, the other thing that featured predominantly was the found family aspect, and that has me in a chokehold on a regular day, but it was so good to see it here in as many forms as it featured.

Anyone who knows me, knows that the myth of Cupid and Psyche is my favorite myth. I was HERE for this book, knowing they are the main characters. And after loving Neon Gods, I was even more excited.
Though, I am just a little disappointed, I won't lie.
In the myth, Psyche is so beautiful that Aphrodite wants her dead. In this book, it is mentioned (more than once) that she is nothin special, and that people don't think she's attractive. Which is fine, I know that the author has the liberty to make changes to the source material, but it felt weird. Making jabs at her appearance, that she "isn't much to look at," and fat-shaming Psyche rubbed me the wrong way.
I did enjoy the rest of the book, though it is not nearly as steamy as I had expected after reading 8 or 9 other Katee Robert books.

Absolutely incredible! I could not put this one down. I had to refresh myself in the Eros/Psyche myth, but it was such a fun spin on it—and that ending! Can’t wait to see what’s next. In the meantime, I’ll be rereading everything Katee has written.

I love mythological retellings especially Greek ones and when I read neon gods the first book I was so excited when I found out that they were going to be more. I love Hades so much so first book was everything I needed. And this book was another great one and I can't wait to get my hands on a physical copy

Though I found this story to be pretty average, I had fun reading it! I don't know much about Greek mythology so I can't speak to the mythological accuracy of the book, however I really enjoyed this retelling; my lack of knowledge probably brought me into the book with lower expectations, which might have made the story more enjoyable for me.
I did think the writing quality was very average--a lot of telling, not showing, and a lot of repetition of certain phrases (take a shot every time Roberts said "in the extreme") which made the story less enjoyable.
I read this in conjunction with he audiobook, and I really enjoyed the narration. I would definitely say I enjoyed the story more when I was listening to it rather than just reading the ebook, which is a testament to how good the narrators were. They both had British accents, and spoke really cleanly with dictation that was good voice acting without getting gratuitous which was great!
Overall, the book was pretty average, but if you enjoy Greek mythology you might really like this one!!

I am not new to Katee Robert but I was new to this theme. I really enjoyed it. I cant put into words what I was thinking the book was about but I was thinking Greek mythology, w/ Psyche and Eros. But Katee def gave us her brand of steam and erotic everything! So good.

I am loving this series! Eros and Psyche are an unexpected pairing that sizzles with chemistry. Those mothers though! I thought Hades and Persephone had big problems but yikes! This sexy romance has plenty of tension and angst. There's humor and oh wow moments. The characters are interesting and there are some you will love to hate. These sisters keep things interesting and I can't wait for Callisto! And who doesn't want more Hermes?

I definitely recommend this series if you enjoy fun, paranormal romance that excites without being too silly. This world the author has created is so unusual and very refreshing. I had heard that she writes unspeakably hot romance but this modern take on Olympus and its assorted Gods and Goddesses complete with social media is truly unique and extremely difficult to put down !
This voluntary take is of a copy I requested from Netgalley and my thoughts and comments are honest and I believe fair

💗 ELECTRIC IDOL 💗 Oh, OH buddy. This book has made me question everything that I know in life. It's been a rough few days and I've fallen deep into the pit of my soul for self-excavation. But it's okay. We have emerged. We are okay saying it... 🗣 EROS IS HOTTER THAN HADES, WHICH MEANS I HAVE CHOSEN A BLONDE MAN OVER THE GOD OF THE UNDERWORLD. I know, I know. Gather your jaws from the floor.
★️ Fear not, Hades will always be my A1-day-one. However, when it comes to the Katee Roberts universe, Eros > Hades. I said it. Don't even come for me. Don't worry about it. Trust mama here, okay?! The first time we meet Eros he's fresh off of murdering someone and covered in not-his-own-blood. Book readers, you get it. To my therapist, keep scrolling.
★ PSYCHE, YOU GLORIOUS BITCH. I love her. Mommy? Mommy. Mommy? Mommy. Psyche, for me, is a female character who really hits the mark between wanting to be kind and trusting but absolutely isn't a fool. She's smart, witty, and keeps our boy Eros on his toes. Something else that is important to note: the plus-sized representation for Psyche was fantastic. Relatable, not-canned, and overall, incredibly well done (as a curvy lady, it has my stamp of approval).
★ Let's talk about two things: the plot and the smut. The plot kept me intrigued enough that even though you had a pretty good idea where it was going, you didn't know how it would get there. Which is exactly what I want when I'm picking up a book like this. And BUUDDDDDYYYY. When these two finally come together, it's a one-handed read. Bye. I'm out.

I was very interested in Psyche's story from the last book and I was not disappointed. Eros is for sure the type of person you want to hate but tends to have a soft spot for once you learn more about him. I love a curvy women MC - Psyche is confident and used to the hate-based on her body only. she is seen as a sweet influencer but she is a shark in her own right.
Eros has some serious mama issues but we love him anyway.
Love the incorporation of the Greek God with a good story behind it. The sex in these stories is amazing and the character's developments are deep.
I will keep my eye open for more books. Awesome!

Katee Robert does it again with Electric Idol. She continues her new take on Greek mythology and the Greek gods bringing it to the modern world. This romance will have you on the edge of your seat wondering what will happen next. There’s an unexpected coupling that Katee throws in there that I wish would be the next book in the series but alas that doesn’t seem to be in the cards.

Psyche and Eros!!! So I absolutely adored Neon Gods and I loved this one even more! With the politics and power plays, Katee Roberts' modern Olympus is the perfect backdrop for Psyche and Eros to explore their mutual attraction through their marriage of convenience and the danger lurking around every corner. Psyche is a plus-sized social media influencer who has mastered her mask in order in order to fit into the game of Olympus and I am 100% here for her energy regarding body positivity and body neutrality! As a morally grey character, who falls more on the dark side since his mother uses him for all of her dirty work, Eros has a lot of inner work and unpacking to do to see himself as worthy of being a good person. I love this world Katee Roberts has created and look forward to purchasing a print copy for myself!

I liked this book a little more than book 1, so if you didn’t *love* Neon Gods, then you should give this one a try. Overall it’s well written and I think the characters had a decent amount of character development. It was a little too much spice for me, but I can see why other readers would love this one!

Another Top Read from this amazing author! This was one of my most anticipated reads of 2022 and I'm happy to report that it was well worth the wait!
Katee Roberts has taken mythology retellings to new heights in this thrilling romance. I simply could not get enough of these amazing characters. After devouring this entire story in one sitting, I wanted to rage at myself because it was over, and I missed the characters I'd grown to love so strongly in such a short amount of time.
While murder plots, social climbing, and underhanded dealings abound in this exciting and sexy fake relationship romance, where this author truly excels is weaving together stories that are as inclusive as they are entertaining. It is so refreshing to see characters of all colors, shapes, and ethnicities create these vivid worlds that Katee Roberts creates. For that reason alone, she has a new lifetime fan. However, it certainly doesn't hurt that Eros and Psyche are fan-freaking-tastic!
I loved everything about this book. If fake relationships and enemies to lovers are your thing, you'll love it too. Highly recommended!

Sexy. Dangerous. Sweet. Electric Idol is an amazing book that anyone who enjoys romance, enemies to lovers and Greek mythology retellings will surely love!
I recently read Neon Gods and loved it, so I was thrilled when I got approved for the ARC of Electric Idol! Electric Idol takes place in Olympus, just like in Neons God's, and follows Persephone's sister Psyche. This book was just as good as the first one. I'm trying to figure out which one I like better, but so far I'm not sure because I love them both!
I loved both of the main characters in this one, and the alternating POVs really helped us get to know each character more. Psyche, the kind hearted, plus-sized, strong, capable woman, and Eros, the quiet, stubborn and dangerous man who is forced to do Aphrodite's forty work. Im usually not a fan of instant attraction but in this book it just WORKED! I loved them from begining to end and I really enjoyed watching their relationship develop.
This book has less steam than the first, so if Neon Gods was a bit much for you, I definitely recommend reading this one!
Thank you Source Books for this e-ARC in exchange for an honest review.
