Katee Robert is OG, as we all know, and I loved the first book in this series so I was hyped to get Electric Idol. This is a marriage of convenience/fake relationship trope set in the really cool world of Olympus.

Psyche is Demeter's daughter. Demeter is one of the Thirteen, positions that rule Olympus and keep it running. Psyche isn't exactly happy to be in Olympus but has spent the last several years creating her public persona while her mom is in a public position. Her sister Persephone got out of an arranged marriage with Zeus in the prior book by marrying Hades and Demeter has the same plans for Psyche. Unfortunately, this makes Aphrodite mad and, being unhinged, she takes a hit out on Psyche, just to hurt Demeter where it counts.

Eros is Aphrodite's son and her enforcer. He takes care of anyone who threatens his mom's empire but he's over it. She tells him she wants Psyche's heart on a platter and instead he decides to marry her. It becomes a marriage of convenience/fake relationship while trying to get Aphrodite off of their back.

I loved Eros. He definitely had trauma over his mom's machinations but he was protective and caring without being a jerk. Psyche was smart and a lot like her mother in moving puzzle pieces around. I liked them together but the pacing of this book was off a bit for me. The middle, after the wedding, was too much of "will they, won't they?" and I started to get bored. I also don't understand why Psyche wouldn't bring her mom into the fold to help stop Aphrodite.

I'm presuming the next book will be Calisto and Zeus which sounds fun. I can't wait to keep reading from this author.

I read the first book in the Dark Olympus series and enjoyed it so I decided to try the next book in the series too. This was an interesting read - it was definitely steamy but I wouldn't say that I'd classify it in erotic romance. It just felt like a really steam contemporary romance to me. I love that the characters in this series are all based on characters from mythology and that it loosely follows along with some of the old stories while bringing a modern spin to it. The dichotomy between old and new is so engaging. This book was especially intriguing to me as there were echoes of traditional fairy tale stories as well - Aphrodite telling Eros to "bring me her heart" like in Snow White and also Beauty and the Beast is even referenced in the book. This book also spoke to a narrative around body positivity in a number of places and I loved it. I especially loved that when we're getting Eros' point of view he never had thoughts that were like "oh well she's chubby but I like chubby" - his thoughts were just straight about how beautiful Psyche was with no qualifiers. I thought this was a great book and I'd definitely recommend it.

I wanted to try Neon Gods because so many have raved about these books. Unfortunately this book didn’t work for me. This is definitely a me thing. As much as I want to love mythology based books. Well written, just not my niche!

As his mother’s puppet, Eros has been trained from an early age to do his mother’s bidding but our hero is tired of always having to destroy the weak and the innocent. Tired of his mother’s demands, Eros goes rogue in an effort to save our story line heroine, an act of defiance that sees Aphrodite refusing to step away from her ultimate goal.

The relationship between Eros and Psyche is frenemies to lovers relationship in which both are now targeted by Aphrodite. Aphrodite is all about the power, and anyone who stand in her way, or disobeys is subject to her evil commands. Marrying Psyche is the best way to prevent Eros’ mother from attacking but her never suspected that he would fall in love with our story line heroine. The $ex scenes are intimate and passionate, without the use of over the top, sexually graphic language and text.

Once again, we are re-introduced to Persephone’s sisters: Callisto, Persephone, and Eurydice, as well as their mother Demeter; Zeus, Hermes and Dionysus, Aphrodite and a large cast of gods and goddesses, and underlings doing everyone’s bidding.

ELECTRIC IDOL is a story of power and control, obsession and jealousy, vengeance, murder, acceptance and love. The premise is entertaining and inventive; the romance is spicy, intimate and seductive; the characters are animated and energetic.

I need to just accept the fact that whenever I start another Katee Robert book, everything else is on hold until I get through it. I love that the book literally describes Eros as the feral cat who decided to follow Psyche home and then marry her on top of it, and even if I might not have been as transfixed as I was with the Hades/Persephone relationship they were endearing in their own way, nervous and circling one another until they worked up the nerve to be honest about feelings. This book also starts to delve even more into the politics of Olympus and confirm various details about the world, which I really enjoyed because it didn't happen at the expense of the romance but instead supported the love story in an engaging way.

Another super engaging, super sexy read from Katee Robert! I'm a sucker for a modern retelling of a myth, and this one doesn't disappoint. With equal parts heart and steam, heartstrings moments and sizzling chemistry, Electric Idol had me swooning from the start. Also love the plus-size rep and the warm, genuine connection between Eros and Psyche. The perfect read to heat you up on a cold winter's night and give you all the heart-fluttery feelings—highly recommend!

I was so excited for this sequel and Katee did not disappoint. I cannot wait for the next one! I’m always blown away by her writing and story telling. I’m a sucker for Greek Mythology and she just continues to blow me away!!

First off, I want to thank Sourcebooks Casablanca for sending me this book through NetGalley for review! When I heard our heroine was plus size I was here for it. I was hoping for a plus size woman who was confident in her body and a story that didn't constantly focus on her size. And I got exactly that! I was thrilled to see a steamy romance with a plus size character. I loved Pysche's character and her confidence in her beauty and body and it was a really nice change of pace from some other books I have read. Eros was also nice to read about ;) He was sexy and powerful and damn he was smooth. But, I also loved how we got to see him act like a stray cat who falls in love with the first person who is nice to him lol.

Now while I loved the romance... the rest of the book felt quite lacking to me honestly. The plot was just kind of blah and I didn't really care. It bored me and I wanted to see more from the relationship of the two. Or at least I wanted more drama from Aphrodite. I kept checking how long I had left in the book which is never what you want.

While I didn't love this book I still enjoyed the plus size rep and the romance in general. The rest just wasn't quite to my taste although I know others will enjoy it.

I enjoyed the first book in Katee Robert’s Dark Olympus series, and I couldn’t wait to read Electric Idol. I was looking forward to reading the retelling of Eros and Psyche’s story.

Storyline/My Thoughts: Electric Idol was not like the first book. The male protagonist Eros is his mama’s errands boy. He does things that involve harming others, sending them away, or even killing them. His mother, Aphrodite, is one of the Thirteen, and she always gets what she wants, even if it involves murder. (No, they are not gods/goddesses in this story, but the Thirteen are ‘titles’ only, but those titles come with power.) She wants her son to kill Psyche. Psyche is one of Demeter’s daughters, and Demeter has a plan for Psyche. That plan actually interferes with Aphrodite’s plan. Eros doesn’t want to harm Psyche, so he gives Psyche a decision that will shock her and him at the same time. It will also surprise others. It may even make Aphrodite angrier. Let the drama begin. =)

What I liked about this book:

I liked the world-building in this book and getting more into what the Thirteen did in this world that Katee Robert created. It’s not a fun world to be a part of at times since they have it out for each other, and some like Demeter and Aphrodite are always looking for different ways for power and control.
I felt for Eros’s character because he always did what he was told without asking questions until it involved Psyche. He thought of himself as a monster, and he tended to be at times, but he was changing thanks to Psyche.
I liked Psyche’s character because she knew how to handle the people who judged her for how she looked and acted. She details what everyone thinks about her being plus-sized (curvy). Even Aphrodite said some disgusting things to her, which made me want to go through the book and have some words with her (I’m trying not to be violent in my reviews since review sites don’t like it, even though it’s over a fictional character.)
Now let’s get into what bothered me:

I really did like this story but felt it was slow-paced in certain areas of the book. I think it’s due to the relationship of Eros and Psyche taking a while since there were trust issues. Only one of them had trust issues, and the other felt like they had an instant attraction but didn’t want to admit it. I liked Hades and Persephone’s relationship more than Eros and Psyche’s.
Now, I felt for Eros’s character, but for some reason, he bothered me. I’m trying to put my finger on it. It may be due to how he handled his mother. Now, don’t even get me started with that woman and her weird relationship with her son and how she treated him.
Overall, I give this book 3.5-stars, and I will be reading the next book in the series. I want to find out more about this world and its characters. The ending of this book has been intrigued me on what is next for these characters.

Standalone or Part of Series: It’s part of the Dark Olympus series, but each can be read as a standalone.

Absolutely loved Electric Idol! I can't wait for everyone to pick up this book! As a fan of Neon Gods, I was curious where Electric Idol would go and it did not disappoint! If you are a fan of Neon Gods, you HAVE to pick up this book!

"El;ectric Idol" by Katee Robert is a Dual POV, Greek Mythology Retelling that promises high steam and high stakes.

Eros, the son of Aphrodite, is unspeakably handsome but is more known for the fact he is the most dangerous man in Olympus. Psyche, daughter of Demeter, is a plus size influencer who knows how to play the political and social game. So when they meet and sparks fly, and the gossip magazines start running wild neither of their mothers are pleased. Aphrodite jealous, and powered by a life long rivalry with Demeter orders Eros to kill Psyche.. However, Eros decides to marry her instead starting off a chain reaction that may cost them their lives.

In "Neon Gods" one of my biggest complaints was this modernized Olympus system where titles such as 'Zeus' are inherited. This system is explained better in this one and I found I could enjoy it a lot more because of that as I wasn't spending every other moment trying to figure out what was going on. I think why this one works a lot more is that Aphrodite is actually very close to the action in this book. While previously Zeus though a danger felt far away. While in this one Aphrodite is very much present and you don't know when she will act.

I really liked the forbidden romance/fake marriage between Eros and Psyche. Neither of their families wanted them together and it made it really fun as they slowly found people to believe in what they were doing and eventually their relationship. Eros was especially the star of the relationship as he worshipped the ground Psyche walked on, in and out of bed.

Psyche is a strong female character. She is plus sized but has worked on embracing and loving her body and is confident in her own skin, despite people online and in person constantly fat shaming her. What I really liked though is that she was incredibly smart and it was very much hinted at that she knows how to play the political game far better then her own mother.

In bed brings up my one big complaint... its advertised as a very spicy book with lots of heat but I actually found that lackluster. Primarily due to the fact that the sex scenes are very repetitive. There are a lot of mirrors in his penthouse I would have loved to see more done with that. Though what I can say is we now know what Eros' favourite thing to eat is.

Trigger Warnings: Body Shaming, Murder, Abuse and manipulation from parental figures

There's something about Katee's books. They interesting to read and her take on these myths and characters is interesting, I don't always love the writing but I've flown through reading the first and second book in this series. Katee kind of sucks you in and you have no choice but to read the book to the end.

Katee always brings the spice, this pairing was amazing. I loved their dynamic and rep that came with it. These books have entertaining plotlines, spice and action.

ELECTRIC IDOL is a fascinating, fun, steamy read that puts you in a world that is based on mythology but modernized and even more deceptive than you can imagine.

This author once again proves the ability to not only have healthy conversations around consent and aftercare BUT ALSO MAKE IT SENSUAL AND IMPORTANT TO THE STORY!!! Electric Idol is set in the same universe as Neon God, but follows Persephone's sister Psyche. She is a fantastic plus-sized influencer who finds herself in forced proximity to Eros, the hitman son of Aphrodite. Both characters are utterly delightful for very different reasons, but Psyche steals the show. It has mature content in it, but this series is now an instant-read for me!

This was such another fun and easy book to get lost in!

My first Katee Robert book was Neon Gods and I’ve been hooked on so many of her other series since that it’s no shock I was dying to read this one as soon as possible!

I loved re visiting the dark Olympus world and getting to see more of the Dimitriou sisters, I think that Psyche might be my favourite so far.
I adored the representation in this one with having Psyche be plus-sized. It was refreshing to see her portrayed in such a positive way, confident in herself, loving her body but also acknowledging her struggles. These all sound like simple things but it’s not often you necessarily get to see it and I really appreciated that.

Let’s talk tropes! This one was a marriage of convenience for the the gods - bad pun intended - this is a trope I can have a love hate relationship with but I enjoyed the hell out of this one. It was what I would call slow burn for a Katee Roberts book, she made us WAIT (compared to other books) but I loved it none the less and it was sooo worth it. Their chemistry and the building of their relationship was so cute throughout. Katee has a way of making you fall head over heals for the morally grey characters and I love that about her books too! Eros is what I’m dubbing a cinnamon roll who can act like a cinnamon roll but also kill you in an instant, the perfect combination 😂 (yes I did just refer to someone who goes by the title The Fixer, as a cinnamon roll)

It was great seeing more of the workings of the Thirteen and their world. We had some faves return, cough *hermes* cough, Id love to see more of her and the others again and I’m super excited to see where we go next, this one really continues to set you up for what looks to be the bigger plot laced throughout the series!

What I Liked: The chemistry between Eros and Psyche was incredible and writing love scenes is clearly one of Roberts’ strong suits. The tension between them was amazing and one of the highlights of the story. The enemies to lovers and fake marriage tropes can be hard to pull off but the circumstances here work and the need to protect each other, from outside influences and themselves, was a really great way to show Psyche and Eros growing closer. I really love when heroes in romance novels feel like they don’t deserve the heroine, so Eros was my dream romance lead. Only in romance novels can a damaged, flawed man be changed by love which is what I loved about this story. In real life, you will never change that man so don’t even try, haha! Psyche is how I wish all plus-sized heroines would be written. She is confident and sexy but also fully aware of the world she lives in, how she is viewed, and the limitations she has based on her size. She doesn’t let anyone talk down to her but knows how people judge her and it’s one of the most realistic portrayals of a plus-sized heroine I’ve read in a long time. One of my issues with Neon Gods was the lack of world-building so I liked learning more about the hierarchy of the leaders in Olympus and the insight into how the Thirteen are chosen.

What I Didn’t Like: Even though Roberts’ shares a little bit more about Olympus in this book, I feel like I still don’t know much about this world outside of its leaders so sometimes it felt like I was only getting part of the story. Who are the people these leaders are leading? Why are there Gods in the first place? I wish there was a more time taken to expand what we know about Olympus. For me, I don’t mind that this is not so much a retelling of Greek mythology as it is taking characters from the myths and writing about them, but I could see other readers being upset by that. Don't expect this to be a classic retelling.

Who Should Read It: Fans of hot, fun, fake marriage romances that don’t mind a story that bends the definition of “modern retelling.’ You don’t need to have read the first book, Neon Gods, to enjoy this one but it would help as this one features characters that are in both books.

Review Wrap Up: Electric Idol was a fun read that highlighted Katee Roberts’ gift for writing steamy love scenes and builds upon the world she created in Neon Gods quite nicely. While there is nothing new here in terms of the tropes, I loved Eros and Psyche and I will continue reading this series.

Katee Robert’s second entry in the Dark Olympus series takes a page from its first in terms of steam level and pairing dynamic, but with an upgraded twist: a marriage of convenience. Electric Idol leaves you so invested in Psyche and Eros’ story and growth that you’ll feel like they’re reaching for your own heart.

Electric Idol follows the third Dimitriou daughter that we didn’t quite get a glimpse of in Neon Gods, Psyche, as a chance encounter in Dodona Tower with Ero, Aphrodite’s son, lands her in trouble and within the sights of a vengeful member of the Thirteen.

Things go from murder to marriage at warp speed and don’t necessarily leave you time to sit with much of anything the moment we see Psyche and Eros’ fateful meeting in that Dodona Tower hallway.

We all know that Katee Robert can do steam. We never had any doubt (and Electric Idol is another excellent showcase piece). But it’s the quieter, unguarded moments between Eros and Psyche that Robert takes time to build out throughout the story that captured my interest and helped build my investment in the central love story in a way that had my heart twisting in moments and really rooting for the pair.

By the end of the story, I found myself absolutely loving Psyche and Eros separately and together, with their own surprisingly relatable hang-ups and inner monologue at times (murderous matriarchs and scheming social circles notwithstanding).

Eros’ story is heartbreaking and really just makes you ache for him as layers of upbringing and family dynamic is revealed. It’s this knowledge that gives the epilogue that much more gravity and weight and one last chance at melting your heart.

Of course, some moments echo back to Gods in a way that feels a little too similar but thankfully, they don’t overshadow what makes this story compelling.

Electric Idol by Katee Robert is the second book in the Dark Olympus series and gives us a retelling of Psyche and Eros. Though I have not yet read the first book, Neon Gods, I was fine jumping in and will definitely go back and read the first book. This was a marriage of convenience story with two very captivating characters. Eros believes he is a bad man who always does what is demanded of him. Then he meets Psyche and she shows him kindness.

I loved how obsessed and passionate Eros was with her. He was not perfect, but he was perfect for her. She is beautiful and smart but full of insecurities as well. Together they were amazing and I loved their interactions and chemistry so much. I enjoyed this book and I am excited to read more in this series.
