Up to No Gouda is the first in what I hope will be a series of mysteries. Set at a charming grilled cheese shop, the owner finds herself in the midst of a whodunit. The characters in the small town are many, buy so well described that they don't feel like a crowd. I enjoyed this cozy New England mystery.

Up to no Gouda has a clever premise for a new cozy mystery series. The cover art and title are both adorable.. It's a book with relatable characters, my favorite being Carly. Because I love tomato soup and grilled cheese, I was intrigued by the idea of a grilled cheese shop. My mouth watered with all the grilled cheese descriptions. This was a great read with a fast pace and great writing. Looking forward to the next book in this series.

After the death of her husband, Carly moves back home to a town in Vermont and opens up a niche grilled cheese cafe. The coziest of comfort foods drew me in right away (there are recipes!!), and the cozy mystery was fun and entertaining.
I enjoyed this first in a future series, and will keep my eye out for future installments!

You mean they eat gilled cheese somewhere besides Wisconsin? Teeheehee, guess where I live?
The sandwich recipes are as good as the whodunit cozy! The story moves along well and has just enough twists and red herrings to keep this reader guessing. Can't say enough about the realism of the characters who could be anyone's neighbors. The publisher's blurb is a good hook, so no recap and spoilers are just wrong. I loved it and hope for another next year!

What’s more cozy and comforting than sitting down to a grilled cheese with homemade tomato soup! This is a great start to a new cozy-mystery series set in Vermont.
Carly is fulfilling her dreams when she opens a small grilled cheese eatery in her home town. Things are going smooth until the owner of the building decides NOT to renew her lease. With Carly and her two employee’s at a loss for what to do next, the owner of the building turns up dead near HER eatery!
Murder is definitely no gouda for business… but it makes for a fun read!
Thank you to NetGalley and Poisoned Pen Press for this advanced copy, my opinions are my own.

Great beginning to a new series. Carly moves back home after losing her husband in an accident. She has a delightful idea for a restaurant featuring a variety of grilled cheese sandwiches. When she is told her lease is up and she must move, the owner of the property turns up dead behind her restaurant. Characters are well drawn, the dialog moves smoothly, and the author throw in just enough clues to keep you from solving the mystery too soon. At the end of the book, you are looking forward to the next book and waiting to see what happens to the people in this cozy. Thanks to Net Galley for the ARC. (less)

Up to No Gouda is the first in a new series by Linda Reilly. This is the first book that I’ve read by this author and I really enjoyed it. Though I suspected the killer very early on, there were lots of twists and turns and viable suspects. The story was well written and fast paced. I will be watching for book 2.

Carly has come back to her home town after the death of her husband to finally realize her dream of owning a grill cheese diner. Everything seems to be off to a great start until the owner of her building gives her an eviction notice. Then bad goes to worse when he is found murdered behind the shop and one of Carly's employees becomes the prime suspect. When a reporter comes to Carly to request her help in investigating she feels she has no choice but to help.

This was a pretty good book for a start to a new series. I just wish the characters were a little more fleshed out. You are told things about them but don't get much real feelings from them, or a feel for who they are, even Carly. I could also have done with a little more action and actual investigation instead of clues just falling into her lap. There is a mere tease of a posible relationship but nothing more than that. All in all an ok book.

Great start to a new series.
Back in Balsam Dell to heal after the death of her husband, Carly Hale is finally pursuing her lifelong dream—opening Carly's Grilled Cheese Eatery. After only five months, business is booming as Vermont vacationers and townspeople alike flock to lunch on her Party Havartis and other grilled cheese concoctions. All but Lyle Bagley, Carly's one-time high school boyfriend and now town bully who just bought the building that houses her eatery and wants Carly out. After a muenster of a fight, Carly's forced to put her nose to the rind and find a solution to keep her business afloat.
That is...until Lyle is discovered dead behind the dumpster of Carly's shop, and one of her employees becomes the prime suspect. In order to save her eatery and prove her friend's innocence, Carly must sleuth out the killer before she's the one who gets grilled.
Overall I really enjoyed it and l am looking forward to the next book.

I have read this author's previous books so I was thrilled to get this ARC from NetGalley.

This is Book #1 of the Grilled Cheese Mystery series. The main character, Carly, is a widow and came back home to open up a grilled cheese restaurant. Unfortunately her landlord, the town menace, ends up dead behind her shop. Since Carly had an altercation with him earlier, as he gave her an eviction notice, she is the prime suspect. It was a fantastic cozy mystery read. The storyline was great, Carly is a likeable character, and I was craving a gourmet grilled cheese afterwards! Looking forward to the next book in the series!

Thanks to NetGalley for the ARC in exchange for my honest review.

i think this book wasn’t really for me. i read it, it did have some mystery to it at some point but i felt like the plot was just a wee bit bland. there wasn’t much kick to it. i couldn't really connect with the characters as well. it wasn't that bad of a read, just wish it had more kick to it!

Carly Hale has lost her husband and has decided to go back to her hometown to rebuild her life. She also has decided to follow her dream and open a restaurant. Just when life seems to be going well, the new owner of the building Carly is renting decides she needs to move as he has plans for the building that don’t include her. When the new owner is found dead, Carly’s employee becomes the prime suspect. Now Carly has to figure out who really killed Lyle to keep her employee from getting burned and her restaurant from going up in flames.

This is a great first entry in this new cozy series. I love cheese, I love cozies, and I love a good whodunit, so whatnot to love in this one? Can’t wait for more from this author. Guess we have some grilled cheese sandwiches in our future as reading this made me crave some warm, gooey cheese!
