One of my favourite writers, Lucy Mangan is completely hilarious! This book is a witty, clever and painfully relatable family saga that will warm your heart. Cannot recommend enough.

Deliciously toe-curlingly funny and relatable novel documenting a year in the life of a middle class, nearly forty year old mum to two primary age children.

Written in diary form, we follow Liz as she juggles family, work and the wrath of the ever-perfect and judgemental PTA, just about hanging onto her sanity with the support of her brilliant friendship group, affectionately referred to as "the coven".

Loved this. Lucy Mangan is a brilliant writer and this is a warm hearted, funny read. I would recommend it to almost anyone!

I must firstly apologise for the amount of time it has taken me to provide a review of this book, my health was rather bad for quite some time, something that had me in hospital on numerous occasions and simply didnt leave me with the time I once had to do what I love most.

Unfortunately that does mean I have missed the archive date for many of these books, so It would feel unjust throwing any review together without being able to pay attention to each novel properly.

However, I am now back to reading as before and look forward to sharing my honest reviews as always going forward. I thank you f0r the patience and understanding throughout x

Absolutely hilarious book that is written in diary form spanning one year in the life of Liz and Richard and their 2 children Thomas (7-8yr old) and Evie (5-6yr old).

As a mum to 2 young children this laugh out loud book really hit the spot and had me crying with joy and empathy.

Oh my goodness, I could relate to this subject. This was a laugh out loud experience which I thoroughly enjoyed. A must read.

I’ve read quite a few fictional ‘mummy diaries’ and this one was by far my favourite!

There are no big events here, no life-changing decisions or family disasters – no plot at all really! Just the daily dramas of ordinary life with children, friends, family and partner, told in a witty and very relatable way.

Some of the moments were interestingly realistic to me as a reader, with some bad decisions having painful consequences but others being ‘let slide’ in the name of family harmony. I’m sure we have all known someone who has forgiven their partner’s mistakes in order to keep the status quo, and yet we rarely see that in fiction, where erring partners must be jettisoned immediately (and often replaced with improved versions before the book ends).

I totally lived this year in Liz’s life right alongside her, and wasn’t ready to stop reading when it finished. In fact, I already owned Bookworm and have added everything else Lucy Mangan has written to my wish list now on the strength of those two – very different, equally excellent – reads. Plot or not, her style of writing really resonates with me and her stories thoroughly engage me.

What a fun book this is! I lost track of the number of time I chuckled out loudly, pretty much every time I recognised some of the family life daily mishaps the author describes with much humor. If you are a mum, I guarantee many of the things she writes about will ring a bell and you'll identify yourself - at least partly - with Liz's endless juggling of kids, husband, friends, job and whatever else life throws at you along the way.

Very much in need of a light read, I started this book and read it in a day, assisted by a long train journey. The story of Liz and her husband Richard and 2 children; Thomas the sensitive 7 year old and Evie the robust 5 year old, told in diary form, over the course of a year. At times it feels relentless, just as looking after children can absolutely feel. Lots to relate for parents, how the simplest of tasks because almost herculean, when children are involved. I could relate less to the women moaning about their useless men, although this did get funnier as the book progressed. I also laughed out loud several times whilst reading this, so job done!

I was given a copy of Are we having fun yet by Lucy Mangan in exchange for an honest review. The story is a diary from Liz, telling the day to day goings on and moans about her family. An ok story with some funny parts.

I liked the way that this was written, it was funny in parts as well, which just made it even better for me.

This is a nice easy and read however I did struggle a bit due to the style. Daily diary, I found this felt a bit like there was no plot line.
Even still this is a easy to read and very relatable if you are a working mum.

I'm sorry, I just could not get into this book. I was so disappointed as I love Lucy's journalism, but the MC was frustrating, the husband a caricature and trying to wade through the book felt like a chore.

I loved this book - it will probably be compared to Motherland (TV series) as it hits a lot of the same notes but is still a great read.

A laugh out loud book, and indeed I did many times! As a mother, I found myself agreeing with everything; I have never felt so seen 😂. I would definitely recommend giving it a read.

A year in the life of a working mother written in the form of diary entries. It is slightly funny in places, but I got little of the character of Liz the mum, other than she is an introvert who loves her children and cat and lives in a middle class enclave. An enjoyable read.
