Magic geared self help book that is fun and informative. I enjoyed it and would definitely buy coleus as gifts for my witchy friends.
In this book Maria DeBlassie explains how to live a magical life, full of synchronicity, divine receptivity, Goddess energy, and divine feminine energy using her own struggles as a woman of color to help others find the magic within their lives. Each chapter will end with some tips on how to make your lives magical.
Maria DeBlassie fills Practically Pagan - An Alternative Guide to Magical Living with relatable experiences and realistic ways to make your life magical. Although, there is no witchcraft or wizardry going on, any person of any gender, race, background, etc. can use her tips to find fulfillment in their lives. I found this book especially helpful for those who feel as though they have lost who they are with the hustle and bustle of life.
If you need some insight into how to feel more like yourself, find yourself, or overall tips on how to find the magic in your life, do not miss out on this book.
It is full of insights, experiences, and rituals for anyone who needs it.

This was a beautifully written book. The lyrical description was great. However, some parts read as if I was reading her journal and that I really shouldn't be reading it. It was very stream of consciousness.
I enjoyed this and the topic of the story, I seem to be led more and more towards pagan living. I think that is down to my grandma. I'd recommend this book to those interested in knowing more about magical living and life.

This is a self-help book, not a religious book. DeBlassie shares a lot of her story intermixed with tips about living a mindful and mundanely magical life. Her tips were decent, but not very unique, and the book was very repetitive. I liked the way it was organized; most of the sections had things you should unlearn and things you should relearn. She had good prompts for ways to make yourself feel more magical and to go against the grain. I felt like she really emphasized introversion to the point it felt like she was implying introverts are oppressed. My neurodivergent extroversion is not celebrated. I think it was overall a decent book for learning self-care and slow living, but it could have been edited down a lot.
I did try to incorporate a few of the tips from the book and was a bit successful on making them a habit. But I am not disciplined enough to continue.
Thank you NetGalley and John Hunt Publishing Ltd for giving me the opportunity to read this.
This book wasn't what I was expecting, but I think I enjoyed it more because I didn't expect what I found.
It's about 'magic' as a concept of being present, enjoying the everyday and being mindful, at least that's what I took from it.
It was an enjoyable, easy read and was a solid read that I've revisited a couple of times.
This was a cute book, not what I had expected, but enjoyable nonetheless. It's not full of rituals to bring about magic it's more about finding the magic in life's everyday moments and being present, mindful, and appreciative. There's a section, Finding Our Way Back to Magic, it's about 20% of the way in, that talks about how we tend to focus on the "less alluring parts" of life more so than the good, and it's during those times of monotony/mundane tasks, that gives us the time to reflect and focus on the everyday magic of being. The text explains it better, but it's an insightful snippet that could easily be incorporated into our days (if we remembered) and maybe make them more magical.
Again, it was an enjoyable book that readers could use to make their days and lives more magical. It's not a book for everyone, but for those who like guiding or more self-care books, this is one you may find enjoyable.
I really enjoyed this book. The whole series is fantastic and lends itself well to advice for everyday living.
I'm always in need of a little more magical in my life and this book definitely helped! I liked the daily conjurings and the tips on how to connect with magic on different levels. I used the tips in my own meditation and daily rituals and keep this book on the shelf to dive in and out of for helpful reminders and inspiration to keep looking for the magic. Highly recommended!
A lighthearted interpretation of magical practices in every day life. This book is for the dabbler interested in the topic.
Embracing my pagan life more has resulted in me trying to learn more about how to make it more in my everyday life. Reading this helped me learn how to make my regular routines more spiritual.
What a gem of a book. Filled with so much magic to live a magical life. I look forward to trying some of the things out.
I DNF'd this pretty early on, unfortunately. I went into this thinking it was going provide fun was to add magic into every day, like it say, but it felt more like a collection of blog posts.
I am sorry for the inconvenience but I don’t have the time to read this anymore and have lost interest in the concept. I believe that it would benefit your book more if I did not skim your book and write a rushed review. Again, I am sorry for the inconvenience.
OK, this book isn't really about being pagan or living magically. The word "witch" is barely mentioned - it's more of a self help book about taking time for yourself, connecting with yourself, and mindfulness. It's not a bad book, but maybe should have been marketed a little differently.
I throughly enjoyed this book it is well set out , easy to take information from and helped to clear up some things I was unsure of before
I'll start by saying that this book was not what I was hoping it would be, and with that I don't think I'm this books intended demographic.
However, it is very well written, It's also well researched.
Essentially for me though it doesn't bring me any great insight into pagan practices, it mostly comes across as a 'self care' guide, which it does to great effect. Especially the key guidance on how to make lasting changes by starting small and sustainable.
This is a good book, with some interesting things to say. However I think people new to the Pagan path will get more out of it.
This book is extremely powerful. I love the idea of incorporating more self care and ritual into your daily life. The books was well organized and provided great options for allowing more space for yourself in your life.
As a Wiccan author myself, I receive lots of magical books for review, but this was my first from John Hunt Publishing, so many thanks to the publisher for sending this one to me. Practically Pagan; Magical Living is a modern day primer of traditional magic. It looks at various aspects of magic from the everyday to that of synchronicity. It is nicely presented and the writing style makes it an accessible read for both new and experienced practitioners alike. The authorial voice is warm and friendly, drawing you in from the opening pages and it is full of interesting information, designed to help the reader bring a touch more magic into their day to day life. Overall, I would say this is a nice book for neophyte witches and those new to the magical path, as it will guide them towards living a more enchanting life. Perfect for beginners. Advanced practitioners might not find anything new here, but it is still an enjoyable read and if it does well, then the author might write a companion volume for adept practitioners too. All in all, I enjoyed reading this book.
