A simple cozy without much excitement. If you like the characters you will enjoy this one. I did like way the case went down
Thank you netgalley and the publisher for this arc
Through NetGalley, I received a free copy of KILLER WORDS (Book 7 of the Mystery Bookshop series), by V.M. Burns, in exchange for an honest review. Now home, Samantha Washington and her Nana Jo are feeling little glum after all of the excitement during their trip to England. However, things jazz up again with Detective Brad “Stinky” Pitt gets falsely accused of murdering a mayoral candidate. Since Detective Pitt has wrongly accused just about everyone they know of murder, Sam and Nana Jo find themselves surprised to be helping him out. Detective Pitt may be a terribly inept investigator, but he’s no murderer. Meanwhile, Sam’s first book has been accepted for publication, and she’s anxiously working on another one while she awaits its debut. I like this book and the series.

With well developed characters and a story plot that is loaded with intrigue, this cozy is a reader's delight! This time "Stinky Pitt" needs help to prove his innocence. This book continues the excellence of the series that many have found to be awesome. Kudos! Thanks #netgalley and #Keningston for the eARC in exchange for an honest review. All opinions are mine.
I have been a fan of this series and these characters for awhile. This was a good solid entry in the series. I enjoyed the progression of relationships and development of characters. I thought it added something for "Stinky" to need their help and for them to give it. The story within a story is also an interesting addition.
I enjoyed this book. It's got strong, likable characters and an interesting story. I liked the ending. #KillerWords #NetGalley
I love this series as it's very well written and the mysteries are always gripping. This is the best instalment so far, a page turner I couldn't put down and read it in one sitting.
A complex mystery full of possible suspects, red herrings and a solution that came as a surprise.
Ms Burn delivers a very enjoyable novel and her characters are as lovely and well written as usual.
I appreciated the historical cozy part and was happy to catch up with the characters and read about the changes in their life.
Another excellent cozy mystery by this author, strongly recommended.
Many thanks to the publisher and Netgalley for this ARC, all opinions are mine
Killer Words by V. M. Burns was one of those books that I could not put down. From the first page I was totally drawn into Sam and Nana Jo's world.
This time Sam, Nana Jo and the sleuthing seniors need to help Detective Pitt as he's being framed for murder. A story that is swiftly paced, only a select few of suspects (I had it narrowed down to two), some laughter while spending time with all of these amazing women and a scary reveal that had me gripping my Kindle and holding my breath. I love being entertained and captured by a story until I reach the end. Ms. Burns has done it again.

Good story within a story offering! The characters in the past and the characters in the present are all engaging, relatable, and interesting. The inset story is set in 1930s England and is purported to be the book that the bookshop owner is writing. The bookshop owner and her cadre of sleuths have been gifted with a largess to cover future costs just in time to save their unimaginative but honest local police detective from being railroaded on a murder charge. Add in local politics and it's a great read with plenty of laughs, plot twists, and red herrings !
I requested and received a free ebook copy from Kensington Books via NetGalley. Thank you!
This book was provided to me via Kindle by Kensington Books, Kensington and #NetGalley for my honest opinion.
Killer Words is the seventh installment in the Mystery Bookshop cozy series. V.M Burns brings her characters to life in a way you’ll think of Samantha as an old friend.
I have been a huge fan of VM Burns since her very first book in this bookshop series with Samantha Washington. The books in the series are better than the last, keeping the reader engaged with all the twists and turns contained within the plot. While I was able to guess the who done it from early on in the book, the twists, turns, and yes, surprises made it a read that you just can't put down.
I can't wait for the next installment in the series and where it will take the characters.
Throughout this series, Detective Bradley "Stinky" Pitt has been Samantha's arch-nemesis. But she and Nana Jo show their true colors when Stinky finds himself accused of murder. Though they're not great friends, they know Stinky is a man of integrity and not one to break the law so they launch an investigation to clear his name.
There are several viable suspects for the murder of pot-stirrer John Cloverton. Cloverton is running for office and doing his best to uncover all the dirt he can on anyone in the community who holds a position of power. It's up to Sam and Nana Jo and "the girls" to find out who had the most to gain by keeping their secrets, regardless of the cost.
There have been issues throughout the series with time, I believe it's because Nana Jo was originally supposed to have been Sam's mother and at the last minute another generation was added but the timeline wasn't corrected accordingly. Adjustments have been made throughout the series, and I think in this book everything finally fits.
This series also features a story-within-the-story, Sam's books that she's writing. In previous books I've felt like those stories were easy to follow but I struggled with it this time. There were lots of characters and I really didn't know who they all were or who was related to who and who was romantically involved with who. That being said, the stories don't relate to anything in the book so not being able to follow them didn't take away from my enjoyment of the rest of the book.
I love the setting, Sam's mystery bookshop with her spacious apartment above. I also like the characters, "the girls" being a rowdy group of seniors who do karate and pick up guys, and "the kids" being Sam's nephews and "adopted" son and their friends. Sam eludes to how things are changing as the kids grow up and her relationship changes and I think the next few books in the series will be very different from the last few. I look forward to reading them.
Thank you to NetGalley for providing me with an ARC.
Samantha and Nana Jo are challenged when an old nemesis of theirs is unjustly accused of murder. They get together with their gossiping girlfriends to unravel the mystery and save Detective"Stinky" Pitt.
There's a lot more going on in the book, though. For one thing, the group has an implausible run of big strokes of luck, unconnected by anything in the story. For another, we get Sam's second book, a historical novel set in England between the wars, as a book within a book. The overlay of other elements takes away from the central mystery.
Still, it's fun to catch up with the collection of likable characters and the book is competently written.
I really like this series and this installment didn't disappoint. Even with multiple characters, all who have important roles, nothing gets lost or confused in the story. Who knew I'd ever be rooting for Stinky Pitts!
In this seventh installment of this great series, Samantha Washington, Nana Jo, and the sleuthing seniors are back again, better than ever.
There are several exciting parts of this book, so I'm not going to spoil anything by revealing too much.
In my opinion, Killer Words is the best of the books so far, and I would highly recommend it, and all the others, to any avid cozy mystery fans.
It was very interesting to read about the mystery, and the rolls of the different characters flowed smoothly, making it easy to read.
Thank you to NetGalley and the publisher for selecting me to read an advanced copy of this book.
