Book #2 in the Bain Island series. The series is set on Bain Island, a remote island off the coast of Maine. The island is currently Halcyon Hall, a spa/ retreat for the wealthy that are trying to escape one thing or another. It was previously Bainesworth Manor, an asylum where families could send their wives or daughters that were considered to have mental problems. The island has a history of death and disappearances that have led to rumors of being haunted. This is the overall arc for the series, planned to be 4 books. Each book is centered around a different group of people with the overall arc of the island bleeding through into each story. Each book can be read as a stand alone. The first book in the series is The Runaway.
Olivia Smith has come to Halcyon Hall to escape the pressures of her celebrity life and the attention of a stalker who has become dangerous. Her stalker has now made it clear, he knows where she is and is coming after her. Enter Sheriff Deacon Hall, a man with his own troubled history. Lisa Childs does an expert job of building the eerie atmosphere of the island and giving the characters, and there are many, a depth that makes their actions realistic. The investigations are tension filled with a few"gotcha" moments when I actually jumped. This story starts and ends in the one book but the arc involving the history of the island does not. It's well worth your time to read the first book and the next ones. Childs has displayed some serious writing skills and I'm waiting to see how she'll continue the stories.
I want to thank Netgalley and the author for gifting me the ebook. A fun mystery thriller novel. Good weekend read.
Great read, lots of suspense. When Olivia goes to a resort, that was converted from a sanitarium, did she get a hiding place or more trouble. The handsome local sheriff thinks so!
I received a complimentary copy of this book from NetGalley. The opinions expressed in this review are completely my own

When I saw Lisa child wrote another book I said to myself and I know it will be worth it.
This is a slow pace of a book of locals finding out the truth if the house hunted or someone got murdered instead. Easily connecting to the characters and even in a slow pace story it was quite intriguing every chapter .
Just a mild disappointment with repetition of words and sentences.

This book was so good! I want to see more from this author in the future!! I couldn't put this book down. What a page turner!!!
Olivia is a Hollywood start with a stalker. A spa on an island near Maine (where the creepiest mysteries always happen) seems a perfect place to get away to and relax. Safely.
The spa was once an asylum with a rather grim history. It is up to Sheriff Deacon to look into new mysteries and save Olivia's life.
I hate it when i struggle with a book. Found it hard to connect with the characters and the storyline was really slow going. However i was curious with how it was going to end. It did start to grip me more as we got to the halfway point. If you can keep going with this book it does get better.
ARC received this is my voluntary review.

I really wanted to like this one more than I did. The synopsis sounded all kinds of intriguing. However, the book did not live up to that promise. The main sticking point for me was that this story was way more romance than mystery. Nothing in the blurb indicates this, and romance just isn't a genre I have an interest in reading at the moment. 🤷🏻♀️ On the positive side, I really loved the setting. Who doesn't love the backdrop of a spooky former asylum?!

This is the second book in the Bane Island series is just as good if not better than the first one. It can be read as a standalone, with new characters being introduced and former characters from the first book continuing in the series. This is a creepy book and if you like creepy mysteries-this one is for you!!
While the atmosphere of this book was on point and exactly what I hoped for from an asylum mystery, the plot itself was lacking. They're didn't seem to be much driving the story forward and I wanted more from what I was given.
The characters were one dimensional and I found myself more annoyed with them than anything else. Especially the insta-attraction and inner commentary of the two main characters.
I don't think I'll go back and read the other books or continue on.
Olivia Smith is tired of the burdens of fame not to mention a stalker that she can't seem to shake off. She decides to take haven at Halcyon Hall, A spa that is on an isolated island close to Maine. Relaxation doesn't seem to be on the menu though, she soon begins to hear talk of women who have disappeared from the island as well as an awful past. Soon a body is found and the local sheriff is brought into investigate. It doesn't help that he has his own past with the Hall which was once an asylum by the name of Bainesworth Manor. The death of his wife still hangs over him like a dark cloud, ruled as a suicide many in the town think he murdered her and covered it up. Follow along as these two paths cross and they must figure out what is going on at the spa and who is behind it. Will they get the answers they seek or will someone else end up dead?
The plot of the book was such a great page turner. The plot of the book was very well written. I truly cannot wait to read another wonderful book from this great author. This was a truly great book.
I wanted to like this book, but unfortunately, I do not. It moved so slow I could not stay focused on it and had to keep rereading the same passage. I like books with some action but this one never got going. I'm sorry I wish I had better things to say.
The first book in this series that I've read - didn't impact understanding or enjoyment.
An interesting context with interesting characters.

Amazing book! Loved this story and highly recommend it! I look forward to more books by this author!
Second in the series of a creepy old asylum that has been converted into a treatment center. Olivia is there to escape, and Deacon, the sheriff, talks with her after a body is found. Good mystery that kept me wanting to know more. Highly recommend this book and author. ⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️
The Hunted by Lisa Childs was the first book I have read by this author. This book is the second in a series, it was a quick read, that I enjoyed. The story was part mystery part romance and I will be reading the next book in the series whenever it comes out. Thanks Netgalley for this arc.

"The Hunted" has a really great plot, but I absolutely hate the way is is being executed. This is like a train wreck or a NASCAR race, you just can't look away. I've rolled my eyes so much I'm surprised they haven't gotten stuck in my head. I don't like anyone in this book, but I keep reading when I probably should DNF it. It all goes back to a very good plot, the baddie is well hidden, his motive not readily seen and there just could be more than one. I do love a mystery.
A Pop Singer, AKAN (also known as nobody) aka Olivia Smith, has taken shelter on Bane Island off the coast of Maine in an exclusive and guarded spa and treatment center now known as Halcyon Hall. She is hiding from the press and an obsessive stalker who has made numerous threats for several months. Of course, she hasn't reported this to the police. Exhausted from the mental anguish, she just ran. Only the place she ended up in is no refuge for any young woman as they tend to end up dead. That's a dirty little fact the owners want covered up.
Sheriff Deacon Howell has his own problems. Even as a child he found a dead woman in what is now Halcyon Hall, but in his youth it was a pile of ruins known as Bainsworth Manor, an asylum where parents sent their troubled daughters and some didn't return. Deacon has also discovered two dead women since becoming the Sheriff, one of which was his wife. Now someone is trying very hard to kill him also.
As Olivia and Deacon explore the passion that flares between them, the killer, or is it the stalker, ramps up the threats and attempts on their lives. Will they catch a killer and expose a stalker, or will they end up as two more dead bodies connected to Bainsworth Manor?
It's the second book in the series .each with a different suspense and an overall mystery surrounding an old manor which has now been converted to a wellness retreat..
I liked the mystery of the story with the threats to MC owing to a stalker .. however the romance to begin with felt too forced.
Initially I was confused with so many characters esp the cousins..so I would recommend reading book 1 if given a chance to get a more clearer picture.
I actually loved Holly's character as a troubled Teen..it was very well etched out
Thank you Netgalley and The publishers for giving me this arc in exchange for my honest opinion.

The Hunted by Lisa Childs.
A Bane Island Novel Book 2.
The pressures of fame and an obsessive stalker have driven pop star Olivia Smith to take shelter at Halcyon Hall, an exclusive spa on a remote island off the coast of Maine. Yet from the moment she arrives, there are rumors about women disappearing, and stories about the resort’s grisly past. Then a note arrives from her stalker, proving that nowhere is truly safe . . .
an enjoyable read. Good story and characters. I didn't have any favourites though. I'm hoping that there is more to come. 4*.
