This was a good story and had many twists. However, the book is fast paced to the point where it can be challenging to get sucked in. Many times throughout the book I wanted the author to pull back on the plot a bit and allow me to settle into the story. It was an overall good read that held my interest though.
I didn't realize that this book was part of a trilogy so I was a little lost following the characters for a while Overall not a bad book but the romance was more prevalent than the mystery and seemed just a little off. Probably won't be reading any more from this author. I received an e-book from NetGalley in return for an unbiased review.
This is my first Lisa Childs book and I know it won't be the last. I started this book with no expectations but honestly it blew me away. The writing is really good and the pace is quick and addicting. I couldn't put this book down because I was immersed on the story and what the characters were going through.
In this book we are following Olivia Smith. She's a really big and famous pop star and life is treating her well. However, one day, Olivia realizes she's living a nightmare because she has a stalker following her everywhere. She decides to take a break and she goes to this unusual place named Halcylon Hall, in the coast of Main. She's sure she's going to feel safe and her stalker won't find her, however, Halcylon Hall has secrets of it's own. Once Olivia finds herself on this exclusive spa, she'll realize everyone is keeping secrets, and maybe her stalker is closer than she thought.
Honestly, the plot of this book was amazing. It was intriguing, captivating and well-developed. Olivia is a really complex character and the mystery surrounding the spa got me hooked since the beginning. I was truing to figure it out all the mysteries but the author took me by surprise every single time. The twists are mind-blowing and the end was really satisfying. If you love thrillers or mystery books i would highly recommend this one.
I didn't realize this was a sequel in a trilogy when I requested this. I thought this was a thriller with a little romance but it was a romance with a little thriller. While I love romance, I went into this wanting some eerie twists and that's just not what I got. The story was fine, just feel the marketing was off a little.
When I read the blurb for this book I thought I would be reading a psychological thriller with a smattering of a love story in it. In actuality, this is a romance novel with a smattering of mystery in it. If you enjoy a traditional romance novel this would likely be a 3-4 star read for you. I gave it 2.5 -3 stars because the combination of genres is just not for me.
This is the 2nd book in the Bane Island trilogy, and I did not have the opportunity to read the first book. That lead to the first couple chapters being a bit of an information dump for me; it took awhile for me to sort out who was who and what was going on. However, Childs does a good job of filling in the gaps and I did find the cast of characters intriguing and likable.
It is set on a semi-isolated island and the majority of the story takes place in a renovated psychiatric hospital (Bainesworth Manor) with a dark and mysterious past. The re-branded Halcyon Hall is now an exclusive spa/rehab centre with a very famous guest (Olivia Smith) who seems to be running from a stalker. Sheriff Deacon Howell crosses paths with Olivia while trying to solve some of the lingering mysteries from Book 1 (The Runaway). Sparks fly between the two and suspense ensues as they work to unravel several conflicts.
The trilogy seems to have an overarching narrative that is not solved in book 1 or 2, but each book has their own individual story lines that do reach a resolution. I didn’t find the ending to be earth shattering, but I also had to read to it all to figure out whodunit! The issue for me lie in the cliche love scenes, and I confess, I skipped through a lot of them because they made me cringe; however, I think there is a large audience for this type of writing, and many readers will enjoy the romantic portions of the book.
In short, if you enjoy the traditional romance genre and also love a bit of a mystery, this book is for you. If you tend towards more dark thrillers (i.e. Gone Girl, The Push, etc.) you might want to skip this one. I might read the third novel (if my library carries it) just to find out what the overarching mystery is really about!

I didn't realize this was the second book in a trilogy when I requested it. While I didn't read the first book, I feel like it was summed up pretty well in this one and therefore doesn't make me want to go back and read it. This is was an okay read if you have a few hours to kill but I didn't find myself engrossed in it. I didn't really like any of the characters and they didn't feel like "real" people. I don't feel inclined to read the third book.
Kindly received an ARC from NetGalley in exchange for an honest review.
I would like to thank netgalley and the publisher for an advance copy in exchange for an honest review. I didn’t realize this was the second book in a trilogy. From the blurb, I thought it sounded really interesting but unfortunately I couldn’t get into it.
I did not realize that this was the second of a series so I was totally confused who was who. Set in a creepy old mental hospital/renovated spa with dark secrets, the story picks up with a police detective trying to solve old murders. Not a great story, I won't be recommending.
Second in the series of a creepy old asylum that has been converted into a treatment center. Olivia is there to escape, and Deacon, the sheriff, talks with her after a body is found. Good mystery that kept me wanting to know more. Highly recommend this book and author.
Thank you.NetGalley, Publisher and Author for this advance ebook copy!
This is the first novel I’ve read from this author but it won’t be the last. It’s an nail biter. I read it two sittings.
I have not read the first book in this series but honestly I don't think I missed anything. But I will be going back anyways to.read book one. Just because I don't like reading series out of order.
The Hunted was such a gripping read! I was sucked in right into the story from the first page!
The characters are what really pulled me in. The are well developed, and believable.
Lisa Childs is filled with action, suspense and mystery. That once you start reading you won't want to stop!
An edge-of-my-seat, bone-chilling read with writing that's exceptional and will keep you enthralled from the beginning until the end!
Again thank you for the opportunity to read this outstanding book!
I will post to my Goodreads, bookstagram and Facebook closer to pub date!
