When one of Millie's childhood friends returns to town seeking answers to his sister's disappearance from decades ago when a skeleton is discovered in the same area as her last known location, he is sure he has found his answers. When the police want to close this out as an accident, Millie believes her friend deserves more answers and starts her own investigation.

This is a fun cozy mystery. The main character, Millie, is an older Amish widower. She is intelligent and observant. The story is well-crafted and full of red herrings. I was surprised by the ending.

All thoughts and opinions are my own; no way has anyone influenced my opinion.

Marriage Can be Mischief by Amanda Flower is a delightful cozy mystery. The goats are delightful and this series is recommended read in order of publication.

I love the Amish book series that Amanda Flower writes. It is interesting to see the lives of the Amish and Englisch merging together to live in Harvest, Ohio. You will have the opportunity to meet a few of the characters from the Amish Candy Shop series as well which adds to the story. While part of a series, this could definitely be read as a standalone. I love Millie and her goats. They had me chuckling at their antics. While this one is a mystery, it deals with a cold case. The characters are well developed and their relationships will keep you invested in the story. The author does a wonderful job of creating a mystery that will have you flipping through the pages quickly to find the clues and guessing until the very end. I look forward to more adventures with Millie and her friend, Lois.

Thank you to NetGalley and Kensington Books for my advanced review copy. All opinions and thoughts are my own.

Thanks toNetgalley, Kensington books and Amanda Flower for this ARC. I’ve read other books by this author.,and have enjoyed them. This one, not so much, not because of the author, I do enjoy her other books, but because with this book, I discovered I’m definitely not into the Amish books, after giving this one a try... It was a cute little story, a mystery of who done it and no actual clues until the very end.

Marriage Can Be Mischief

by Amanda Flower

Millie, a widowed member of the Amish community in Harvest, Ohio, supports her modest lifestyle by making quilts. Her extra talents are matchmaker and sleuth. Lois, her Englisch best friend from childhood who loves being her sidekick, calls her the Amish Marple. The two have some wild and sometimes dangerous adventures in the pursuit of truth.

In Marriage Can Be Mischief, a human skull is found at the bottom of a ravine. This discovery leads to the reopening of a cold case in which forty years ago Samuel Zook, a disagreeable buggy maker, was found dead at the top of that same ravine in his buggy. His wife Galilee had disappeared. As Millie and Lois investigate, they find several people with strong motives for wanting Samuel dead. The sheriff closes the case again when the skull is identified, but Deputy Little and Millie think it is important to pursue it to give justice to the victim.

There is a lot of humor mixed into the story as Phillip and Peter, Millie’s two pet goats, continue their mischievous antics. When Lois inserts references to media in conversations (e.g. James Bond), Millie is totally lost as to the meanings. Media is just not a part of the Amish lifestyle.

Ruth Yoder, the bishop’s very particular and exacting wife, plays a recurring important role in the story. When Millie matches up Phoebe, Ruth’s granddaughter, with Lad Zook who will one day inherit his family’s buggy business, Ruth must insert herself into the relationship. Millie has a love interest of her own when an old flame moves to the area. She has to decide if she is ready for a new relationship. Her husband Kip has been dead for twenty years, but she still loves him.

This is a very busy book, but the parts tie together nicely. I felt like I was in the middle of the community, and I cared about the characters. The contrast of the Amish and Englisch ways, without passing judgement on either, is well done.

I received a complimentary copy of this book in exchange for an honest review. Opinions expressed in this review are completely my own.

Rating: 5/5

Category: Mystery, Christian

Notes: This is #3 in the Amish Matchmaker Mystery Series. It would be OK to read this book as a standalone, but it would be worth your time to read the first two for character backgrounds and humor. This also ties in with another Amish mystery series by Amanda Flower which is also set in Harvest, but although some characters from that series make cameo appearances in this one, the two series are independent.

Publication: November 30, 2021—Kensington

Memorable Lines:

…the light was breaking through the trees. I let out a breath. Sunrise was my very favorite part of the day. Each morning offered new opportunity and ways to give thanks to Gott for this life.

She sniffed and patted the white prayer cap on the back of her head as if to be sure it was perfectly in place. Of course it was; a prayer cap would know better than to move on Ruth Yoder.

“Who is your wife’s cousin?” “The sheriff. He’s no friend of the Amish, I can tell you that. If he knew we had an Amish man living on our farm, he would be fit to be tied. Honestly, we don’t talk to him much. He’s a sour person. Life is too short to be around people like that.”

An Amish Matchmaker Mystery #3. There are so many things I enjoy about this series. For one, it’s a crossover with The Amish Candy Shop Mystery with both taking place in Harvest, OH. I love seeing the familiar characters .. and Jethro the celebrity pig around this quaint town that’s made up of both Amish and Englisch residents.

The stars in this series are Millie and Lois. Both are just shy of seventy and share an unique friendship. Millie being an Amish widow and avid quilter. Lois being Englisch and running a local cafe that apparently serves wonderful blueberry treats. Together they are hoot and quite the mature sleuth duo. I love that Lois nicknamed Millie the Amish Marple!

The mystery was captivating and centers around a cold case involving Uriah’s missing sister. With plenty of suspicious suspects, I successfully pegged the correct culprit early on. I just couldn’t determine the reasoning until the reveal. There were a few plausible red herrings and a bit of unexpected action involving tampering with a buggy.

There was an underlining theme of learning to move on after grief. Uriah and Millie finally confront their feelings for one another. Plus there are plenty of humorous moments involving Peter and Philip, two mischievous goats that easily steal the spotlight during their scenes. I look forward to continuing this series and seeing which case Millie and Lois take on next.

I received and ARC from @netgalley and @kensingtonbooks - all opinions are my own.

The cast of the main characters is the same, but this book suffers from confused plotting, poor editing and poor proofreading. . I have enjoyed the books in the authors other series and I also enjoyed the fist two books in this series and I hope the next book is better than this one was or I may not continue with this series.

Millie and Lois do a lot of sleuthing, especially Millie. The one weakness is that the killer outs themself which seems to happen a lot in these books.

This is the third book in the Amish Matchmaker series and once again we find our self in Harvest,Ohio. A film crew has stuck their nose into an unsolved mystery, forty-years ago there was a murder and now they want to publicize it and stir up attention to it again.
There has long been speculation about what happened, who did it and why.
Dead bones don't talk though and even though they've been unearthed at the bottom of the gully they'll give no answers.
Millie is on the case with her best friend Lois to try to solve the long forgotten about case.
When someone tries to sabotage the efforts Millie has put into solving the case will it stop her?
Once again a great addition to the series, looking forward to reading more in this series.

Marriage Can Be Mischief, the 3rd in the Amish Matchmaker Series, may be the best one yet! Millie, the Amish matchmaker and Lois, her English best friend are once again trying to solve a murder, but this time, it's a murder that's 40 years old. Uriah Schrock has returned to town after having been gone for many years. Millie learns that Uriah has returned to town to try to find out what happened to his sister Galilee who disappeared 40 years ago after supposedly murdering her abusive husband Samuel. However, a body is found in a ravine not far from where Samuel was murdered and it's determined that the body is Galilee, The question is whether Galilee died after murdering Samuel, or if they both were murdered by someone else. Millie decides she must figure out what happened to Galilee for Uriah's sake.

It's always so much fun spending time with Millie and Lois, and of course the goats! Ms. Flower does a wonderful job immersing the reader into Millie's world, artfully meshing the Amish lifestyle with the English world. Harvest and the surrounding town are described in so much detail that the reader feels like they've visited Harvest themselves. The other characters we've grown to love (or dislike?) are back - Ruth the Bishop's wife, the women of the quilting circle and of course the characters from the Amish Candy Shop series that are all part of Millie's life in Harvest.

The mystery itself is complex, with many potential suspects. Millie is very good at analyzing the clues and putting the pieces together, which can at times lead her right into the hands of the culprit. Just when you think you know who killed Galilee and Samuel, other clues arise which have you starting over. The resolution of this crime is quite a surprise, at least it was for this reader!

This is an outstanding book and creates a few issues for the reader - you want to find out 'whodunnit" but you don't want the book to end! I highly recommend this book and the others in the series. I will look forward to future adventures with Millie, Lois and the goats.

I LOVE the Amish matchmaker mysteries! Millie is such a fantastic character. This is the third book in the series.

This book is incredibly well written and that the characters are great. I enjoy Millie, her partner in crime, Lois and her old friend, Uriah. A film crew is in Harvest to make a movie about a forty-year-old unsolved murder. A skeleton has been found at the bottom of a ravine and Uriah is certain it’s his sister, Galilee. Right before Uriah left Ohio, she disappeared, and her husband, Samuel, was found fatally stabbed with a knitting needle. The sheriff declared that Galilee killed him and ran away. Uriah never believed the theory, and he’s hoping Millie will help him stitch together the truth .

An excellent series and I can’t recommend it enough!!

Marriage Can Be Mischief
An Amish Matchmaker Mystery, Book #3
Amanda Flower
5 Stars

Synopsis:

Millie Fisher may be widowed, but she leads a full life in her Amish hometown of Harvest, Ohio. There’s her quilting circle, her Boer goats, her gift for matchmaking—and the occasional murder . . .

Millie is happy that her childhood friend, Uriah Schrock, has returned to Harvest after decades away. He was sweet on Millie in their school days, but she only had eyes for her future husband. Now, there’s a new spark between them, so Millie is concerned when Uriah doesn’t show up at the Harvest concert series—or for his job as the Village square’s groundskeeper. Perhaps Millie has been involved in too many murder investigations, but she has a sinking feeling. And when she and her best friend, Lois, find Uriah with the police, it seems she’s right . . .

A film crew is in Harvest to make a movie about a forty-year-old unsolved murder. A skeleton has been found at the bottom of a ravine—and Uriah is certain it’s his sister, Galilee. Right before Uriah left Ohio, she disappeared, and her harsh husband, Samuel, was found fatally stabbed with a knitting needle. The sheriff declared that Galilee killed him and ran away. Uriah never believed the theory, and he’s come back to Harvest hoping, Gott willing, Millie will help him stitch together the truth . . . (Amazon)

Review:

The characters are well rounded and well developed. Millie and Lois find themselves having to solve another murder mystery. But this murder happened over forty years ago. That does not keep Millie and Lois from wanting to solve it. All the usual people make appearances in the book, and it was good to see all of them. Millie and Lois are great together and they bring lots of laughs. And Millie’s goats are adorable and get into all kinds of mischief.

The author is very talented in her descriptive writing and these descriptions pulled me into the story from the very beginning and took me on a fantastic ride. The writing style flows smoothly and the book is an easy read. The murder was well plotted and there were a few suspects to consider and clues to sift through. I had an idea who the murder was but I was not completely sure.

I would recommend this book to anyone who enjoys a well crafted cozy mystery. If you are looking for a book to read that is humorous and intriguing, get a copy of this book and enjoy.

I voluntarily reviewed an ARC of this book provided by the publisher, Kensington Books, and NetGalley, which I greatly appreciate.

This is the 3rd book in a highly entertaining series. In this book Millie and Lois become embroiled in a cold case. Now they must find out if the skeleton is Uriah's missing sister. I enjoy the setting and adore the characters in this series. I would definitely read the previous books in the series before reading this one. I really enjoy reading about the Amish and what can I say about Millie's goats.... they're a hoot!

This series by Amanda Flower is truly delightful. This is the third book in the series and I suggest that they be read in order, just because you can familiarize yourself with these fun characters. Millie and Lois are back in action as they find themselves involved in year another investigation. These two ladies are hilarious, sweet and fearless which is why I love them.

I have had a soft spot for Uriah Schrock throughout the series, if you didn’t already know, this series is a spinoff of the authors Amish Candy Shop Mystery series, characters will appear in both series. I love the history between Millie and Uriah and hope they will have the happily ever after they both deserve. Oh, and the mischievous goats are back providing more chuckles in this entertaining, interesting, well-written, must-read cozy.

Millie is embroiled in another mystery. A skeleton is found in the bottom of a ravine. Could it be Uriah's sister who went missing many years ago. At the time, it was assumed that Galilee had killed her husband and lit off for parts unknown. Millie was just a young wife at the time and Galilee was several years older. But there were always rumors surrounding the murder of Samuel, Galilee's husband. Millie is getting close as someone is trying to stop her from investigating.

Amanda Flower has a way with a story. Her characters are entertaining and some have quite the quirks. The story was entertaining and kept me turning the pages. I love Phillip and Peter the goats. They are a fun touch.

Marriage Can Be Mischief is the third book in the Amish Matchmaker series and is also a spinoff from the Amish Candy Shop series. The story is set in the small town of Harvest, Ohio, with Millie Fischer an older Amish Widow being the main characters with her childhood friend and Englischer Lois as her sidekick. Uriah Schrock, another childhood friend has also returned to Harvest, and seems to be sweet on Millie. In this book we find out that he returned to get closure. Forty years earlier his sister, Galilee, disappeared and her husband was killed. Everyone though she killed her abusive husband and fled, changing her name and leaving the faith, Uriah ever believed it. When a skeleton is found buried on the side of a cliff, Uriah wants answers. Enter Millie and Lois. This duo of super sleuths start asking questions and putting two and two together to help figure out what really happened to Galilee.

I really like the character of Millie Fischer. She returned to Harvest after her husband died and her sister needed help. Her sister is now gone, but Millie stayed and is making a name for herself as a matchmaker, quiltmaker and sleuth. She is great at reasoning and deduction, which allows her to take information, rearrange it and figure out what happened. Being an older woman, people also seem to open up to her as well. Paired with Lois, who is hilarious, they are the dynamic duo. They can do things other Amish can't because Lois is Englisch, such as use a car to travel out of the community. Being about a cold case makes this one a bit different. I enjoy the various characters we meet in this book, especially Millie's two playful and troublesome goats, who add a bit of humor. This was an entertaining cozy mystery, with a few tense moments, some fun, and an interesting mystery and investigation. You don't have to read the first two books in this series to enjoy this one, but it is a great series and I do recommend you read them all because of that. Another great cozy mystery by one of my favourite cozy mystery authors.
