Cozy mystery vibes. But also deep and fun.
Thank you #Netgalley for the advance reader copy of Claret and Present Danger by Sarah Fox in exchange for an honest review. Sadie owns the Inkwell, a literary pub. There is a Renaissance faire and circus by the town of Shady Creek, Vermont. Sadie and her friends watch sword fighting and circus acts. They were awed by the high flying action. The illusionist is amazing too. Halfway through his show, he collapses. How did he die? Ms Sarah Fox writes well and draws the reader in with the adventures of Sadie and her friends. It was interesting to read about what goes on behind the scenes at the faire.
A Renaissance Faire is visiting Shady Creek and our protagonist Sadie is visiting with her best friend and her friend's young daughter. They're enjoying the Faire immensely but Sadie picks up on some vibes from members of the troupe-the new manager is instituting some changes that are not strictly Renaissance related and there is also some jealousy amongst members of the troupe.
Sadie is disappointed to not be able to get tickets to the star attraction, Illusionist Ozzie Stone. He is highly charismatic and puts on quite a show when drumming up business. However, she's thrilled to later get free tickets from Ozzie himself.
Shockingly, Ozzie collapses during the show and later dies. All signs point to murder as he was poisoned. Sadie's employee had been in a fight with Ozzie earlier and the police arrest him. Sadie is determined to prove that he wasn't the murderer and begins to do some digging on her end, much to the dismay of the local police.
I really enjoyed this book. I like the characters who are well established and not cariactures. The mystery is first rate, with plenty of red herrings and I did not see the resolution coming at all. I enjoy the romance between Sadie and Grayson-it's an added bonus and a realistic one.
I received an ARC from the publisher via NetGalley but the opinion expressed was not influenced by that.
I enjoyed this; it was good to revisit with the characters of the Literary Pub series and see what was new. The mystery was fun and exciting, and the recipes included were pretty yummy. I liked that the characters have also had growth.

A literary pub means having both cocktails and mocktails with very punny names. The pub owner is the snoopy sleuth and her boyfriend is a brewer and former PI. The publisher's blurb does a good job without giving anything away, the characters are really clear and engaging, and there are plenty of plot twists and red herrings. I thought it was great, and I think that it works well as a stand alone because the author explains whatever is needed.
I requested and received a free ebook copy from Kensington Books via NetGalley. Thank you!
Claret and Present Danger by Sarah Fox is book four in the Literary Pub series.
A smoothly paced story that wove twists, suspects, red herrings and a little adventure for Sadie as she tries to help a friend and employee who is a suspect in a murder investigation. Ms. Fox also upped the romance between Sadie and Grayson in this one but it didn't overshadow the mystery. Ms. Fox's descriptive writing makes the small town of Shady Creek, VT and the characters come to life. An enjoyable read that kept me turning the pages.
When a Renaissance Faire visits the small town of Shady Creek, Vermont, amateur sleuth and proprietor of bookish theme pub The Inkwell, Sadie Coleman, finds deadly happenings stick around like red wine stains on white tunics in the fourth Literary Pub Mystery by USA Today bestselling author Sarah Fox. This was a fun read in a great series. I really enjoy this character and wish this pub actually existed. I recommend reading the other 3 in the series first or you may end up a bit lost as far as characters are concerned. Great mystery and withheld me all the way to the end. Thank you NetGalley for the advanced readers copy for review.
As a huge fab of the cozy mystery genre I’m always looking for another series to add to my list. Sarah Fox knocked it out of the park again with the fourth in this series.
Great book and author. Can't wait for the next book in the series. I highly recommend her books and read them in order is best. Her books are 10 stars
Claret and Present Danger was a cute and twisting cozy mystery. The book title's play on Tom Clancy's Clear and Present Danger doesn't quite meet the expectations of a Clancy novel, but it was definitely worth a read. It was fast-paced and the book puns are part of the drink menu at the book-themed Inkwell pub owned by Sadie Coleman. An enjoyable addition to the series.
Love this series! Very well developed characters with great relationships with each other. Fast paced. Well written plot. Another excellent addition to this well loved series! Thanks #netgalley and #Keningston for the eARC in exchange for an honest review. All opinions are mine.
This one was another fun adventure in Shady Creek with Sadie and Grayson.
The Trueheart Renaissance Faire is in town. Sadie is shocked when someone dies suddenly. Even worse when one of her employees is accused. She gets to work to
Solve the crime.

The renaissance faire has come to town and the locals can’t wait to escape reality for awhile. Even Sadie can’t help but get caught up in the excitement of attending with Grayson. But when one of the top actors drops dead during his act, the festivities don’t seem so festive.
With one of Sadie’s employees under police scrutiny, she finds herself trying to find out who really had it in for the wizard. After yet another actor is murdered, the heat is really on and Sadie finds herself juggling work and sleuthing, while trying to stay out of the murderer’s next joust.
I adore this series and truly enjoy the drink names, characters and mysteries. It’s an amusing and fun cozy series that I highly recommend.
A Renaissance Faire has come to the charming town of Shady Creek, VT. Famed illusionist, Ozzie Stone, headlines the show with sold out seating. Protagonist, Sadie Coleman, owner of the Inkwell, a literary pub; is spending time at the faire with her friend Shontelle, and her daughter, Kiandra. Sadie gets to know several of the Ren Faire workers, and she and boyfriend, Grayson, attend Ozzie’s show.
A shocking murder, and the arrest of one of the Inkwell employees draw Sadie and Grayson into the crime investigation. There is a plethora of suspects around who wanted to, and had the means and opportunity to kill the victim. Author Fox pens a satisfying whodunnit for fans of this cozy mystery series. Delicious recipes included.
I honestly reviewed an unedited digital arc provided by NetGalley and Kensington Publishing. All opinions are my own.
Claret and Present Danger is the newest addition to this literary pub series by Sarah Fox.
The Trueheart Renaissance Faire is in town and Sadie Coleman is looking forward to attending with her new beau Grayson.
What Sadie doesn't expect is to witness a sudden death, and one of her employees being the main suspect.
I'm a huge fan of this author, and this series is one of my favorites. I always enjoy reading the books, and the literary food and drink names always make me chuckle.
This is a great series that I would recommend to any cozy mystery reader.
Thank you to NetGalley and the publisher for selecting me to read an advanced copy of this book.

Another great book in the series! When an illusionist collapses and dies during a show at a carnival and Sadie's bartender is blamed for the murder it's up to Sadie to figure out who the real murderer is. with the illusionist's girlfriend getting killed next she lost her prime suspect but that doesn't stop her from digging further. Love the character development.
