Abigail King and her two sisters, Eliza and Colette did most of the work involved in running The Shadow Lake Inn and keeping it profitable. Their parents Abe and Sarah both had health issues so outside of a few light duties they had handed the Inn to their daughters. The three girls were single and seemed to have little interest in getting married anytime soon. Abigail, being the oldest was mostly in charge of running the business and keeping the employees in line. She loved to take a walk along the Beach of Shadow Lake in the early hours of the morning. Abigail would pray to God and spend time with Him in the solitude of the beach at that quiet hour of the day.
As the story begins Abigail notices something off in the distance that looks out of place and hurries to find out what it could be. She is shocked when she sees that it is a man that has been washed up on the shore . She does what she can for him after she learns he has been shot and left for dead. After giving CPR her sister Eliza helps her rescue him and they secretly give him shelter while he heals. But the man has Amnesia and doesn't know who he is or where he came from. How long can the girls keep Jonah From the Lake a secret from their parents? Who is Jonah ? Is he a bad person or a good person? Is someone trying to kill him and could the King family be in danger because they are sheltering Jonah?
The eye catching cover drew me to this book. A very nice and intriguing summer read. I loved the characters that where introduced in this first book of a new series. I liked seeing the compassion that the Amish King family extended to Jonah From the Lake. I especially liked the way the book ended. The story was a good blend of Amish Fiction, suspense and forbidden romance.
I recommend The Memory Quilt to readers of Amish Fiction and Suspense Fiction. This book is scheduled to be released on November 30th , 2021.
I received a complimentary arc copy of this book from the Author and Publisher through Netgalley. A favorable review was not requested. All opinions expressed here are my own.
Abigail likes to walk on the shore near Lake Erie to pray and enjoy the quiet. Finding an injured man in the water, who had been shot is not what she expected. He is not Amish either, and has no memory of who he is. She names him Jonah, since he was spit up out of the water. Obviously someone tried to kill him, but he has no idea of who or why, just a deep sense of trust issues. Being around Abigail and her family helps, and he slowly begins to remember bits and pieces. She decides to create quilt blocks into a memory quilt to help him. When the bad guys show up things get heated, but eventually a good HEA occurs. Overall, a good summer read, and one I highly recommend.
