This manga turned out to be way more entertaining than I had originally thought it would be based on the beginning. But the fox demon that we meets is hilarious and turned out to be my favourite character in this first volume.
This story has a lot of potential and I hope the future volumes live up to it! There’s this darker themed plot that seems to be brewing and I cannot wait for it to be explored. Especially since the majority of this first volume was a lot more lighthearted and funny versus something more serious.
I am eagerly anticipating the next volume in this series! Check this one out if you like teenage angst and drama, maybe a love triangle?, a fox demon plus many other kinds and so much mischief and mayhem!
4/5⭐️
TW: death of a loved one (off page), violence, blood.
I absolutely adore manga. Honestly reading this sent me down a little anime hole. I love the art work and the story telling. I hope my daughter loves anime/manga as much as I do.
The Fox's Kiss a pretty typical fantasy romance shoujo.
Although a bit predictable, unrealistic, and the Fox is quite...forceful with the main character, which isn't cool. But it's fun and if you're into kinda trashy easy-to-read shoujos, this is definitely the one! I'm excited for the next volumes.
*Thanks to NetGalley and Akita Publishing Co., Ltd. for providing me with an ARC of this title in exchange for an honest review.*
An entertaining story with a lot of the same, reused shojo tropes, but the plot was fast-paced enough that you didn't feel like it was dull or boring even with it being cliche.
Definitely not a fan of the male "love interest" forcing his relationship onto the female, underage character. This is such a huge theme in shojo manga and the YA genre and it's really not great. In this story, the romance is reciprocated, but this whole idea of just finding some girl and being like "Hey, you're my girlfriend/fiance/wife/bride" is so not OK, especially when the female characters says, multiple times, NO to this affection.
It doesn't matter if she fell for him eventually or not. It's the fact that she had no choice in the matter, the power dynamic is heavily slanted toward the male love interest getting his way literally no matter what, and that this is a really scary reality for a lot of girls and women today.
So if we could PLEASE stop perpetuating this really toxic romantic plot line in stories for women and girls, that would be great, OK.
Unfortunately due to the netgalley formatting it made it really difficult to read this in the way it’s meant to be. I enjoyed this but probably not to the extent I should of as I love manga like this. I shall be buying the book to check out further myself, as it really is of interest to me, a shame it wasn’t formatted well (by netgalley or publisher not sure who) but won’t leave a bad review due to this
If you liked Kamisama Kiss or Inuyasha, this might be the next best adventure for you. Very similar vibes to Kamisama Kiss with a twist.
Koharu can heal demons- as her grandmother once could. She heals a fox demon named Iori and as I’m sure you can guess mayhem ensues.
I received a free eARC from the author/publisher via NetGalley in exchange for an honest review.
The Fox's Kiss is a fun paranormal romance manga featuring a girl who can heal demons, and a grumpy fox demon who takes an interest in her.
As this is the first in the series, most of it feels like it's setting up for the real story to begin. We meet the main cast; Koharu, who has mystical healing powers; Iori, a fox demon; and Onizuka senpai, who is more than he seems; and we get to know them and the dynamics between them. There are also plenty of demons and gods and priestesses.
The artwork was lovely, and while the premise feels like a riff on manga I've read before, I'm still interested to see where the story goes (because I'm trash for this particular kind of story.)
It reminds me of Inu Yasha and Kamisama Kiss, so if you liked either of those, you may enjoy this manga.
Thank you to Netgalley for approving me to read this book! This book made me laugh a lot which isn’t an easy thing to do! The romance was great it reminded me of inuyasha! The characters were well drawn!
WARNING! Could not open this book using NetGalley file format. Review neutral for this reason.
I did however research into this manga, watched some videos online and looked at imagery I could find. I don’t think the storyline is anything too spectacular to anything we haven’t seen before. But it’s still enjoyable for people who enjoy this style of manga.
The illustrations are obviously beautiful, I really enjoyed what I did find. The illustrator is brilliant. The cover is very inviting and gives an idea about the story too.
I would’ve liked to actually read this, I LOVE manga but unfortunately my phone, iPad and computer just didn’t support the file sent to me. This is more a reflection on the file format than the book.
Thank you NetGalley for the arc. But its hard to read this kind of format ...
These 4 chapters were nice, the art is beautiful and i liked the story. Its predictable but i like this kind of story, we already read a lot of the same story but i still love them. I cant' wait to read more of the manga and leanr more about Iori
Usually I avoid series like this, since they tend to follow the same patterns and The Fox's Kiss wasn't an exception. It felt like I've read this a million times already, but I'll try to see this with the eyes of someone who's new to this. So, after Koharu's grandmother dies she notices she has the same powers as her. She can heal demons and she ends up healing this fox demon, who decides to make her his servant. Soon the demon Iori decides that a servant isn't enough, but Koharu must become his bride and kisses her to form a contract. Then it's mostly different demons, Iori's past and other minor things along their way. I've never been a fan of the bride settings, since Koharu is just sixteen. Happens with a lot of series and usually with even younger characters.
The art looks OK, nothing spectacular, but works. The plot doesn't really offer anything new, but is good basic stuff. I always wish for some refreshing elements, but if this your first series like this, then perhaps you see those. In a sense I wish Aikawa had used more time with her characters to build this or something and make Koharu less like a stereotypical girl. Then I could perhaps like The Fox's Kiss too.
Thank you to NetGalley, Akita Publishing, and Saki Aikawa for the opportunity to read this book in exchange for an honest review.
This is a very cute manga about a girl whose grandmother can see and heal demons, but Koharu can't. When her grandmother passes away, she is then able to see and heal demons like her grandmother use to do. When an injured fox demon comes, looking for Koharu's grandmother, he is disappointed to hear she has passed, but decided Koharu might just make for a good slave. Some concerns arise as the fox demon begins to follow Koharu to school. after saving her from another oni, he gives her a kiss, telling her they are now engaged, much to Koharu's protest and dismay.
The art ins this manga is very well done and quite cute. The demons attracted to Koharu and her healing abilities add a nice comic affect, along with the character of Iori the fox demon soon following Koharu like a lost puppy. This is a cute romantic comedy I'd recommend for shojou readers and teens.
Could not access book. The format was un-openable.
I will give this a three stars, as 1) it sounds great 2) the cover is stunning 3) I have heard great things about it.
I'm really upset that it would not open, but I hope this is explanatory enough.
Thanks to Akita Publishing for making this book available to me via #Netgalley
.
After the death of her Grandmother, Koharu discovers that she has inherited her grandmother's healing powers. She can now see and heal demons. This was revealed to her when she healed a fox boy (handsome one at that) in the forest. He follows her home and decides that she is to become his bride. He kisses her and they are engaged.
.
This first volume was short and sweet.
Personally not a favorite, the art is really well done, but the story feels like something I have at least heard of many, many times. It did not feel unique at all with having the innocent girl and all that. I do not think I will be picking up any of the other volumes, but I am glad the publisher let me view this one.
I was really looking forward to this one but the PDF will not open on my laptop or phone so I cannot read it or provide a legitimate review
kitsunes are one of my favorite creatures in Japanese mythology so i was super excited to read this ARC. thank you to the publisher and NetGalley for approving my request to view this title.
this was a very cute shoujo manga about a human girl with the power to heal youkai and the kistune she saved. i really found iori and koharu's interactions really cute though i thought that the kiss and the romance thing happened too fast. it's still the first volume so i think i'll wait and see where this goes from here.
so far this is very interesting and i love to see the different creatures of japanese mythology and koharu and iori's shenanigans together. the art is typical for the era it was published it (circa 2012-ish) and i found this pretty nostalgic.
all in all, i think i'll stay around to read more of this~
Thank you to Akita Publishing and NetGalley for this ARC in exchange for an honest review!
The Fox's Kiss, Volume 1 by Saki Aikawa is an amazing new shojo manga that will appeal to fans of Fruits Basket, Kakuriyo: Bed and Breakfast for Spirits, and Kamisama Kiss. The genre is supernatural/fantasy romance. The story revolves around Koharu, an ordinary schoolgirl, who one day finds a handsome fox spirit named Iori and discovers that she can heal him, a magical ability that was passed down to her from her grandmother. Then, Iori decides that she will become his bride and will attend school with her and live with her in human form. That's the initial premise and subsequent adventures involve a potential love triangle, other demons, etc. My favorite chapter was when Koharu jouneys to the magical spirit world to find a cure for Iori, and she has a wear a mask so that the other spirits don't know that she's a human.
Overall, The Fox's Kiss, Volume 1 is the best new manga I've read in a while. If it's marketed correctly, I feel like it has the potential to become the next Fruits Basket or Kamisama Kiss. The story has everything you can possible want - romance, action, magic, etc. Also, the art is gorgeous. Some manga have great story but boring or bad art. That is not the case here. Saki Aikawa's artwork is beautiful, and the characters are well-drawn. I noticed that The Fox's Kiss #1 (the first chapter of this volume) is free on Amazon right now. Go buy it right away to check out the awesome art and story. I'm sure that after you read it, you will definitely be interested in reading the rest of Volume 1. Now that I've finished Volume 1, I am definitely interested in reading the rest of the series and have added them to my cart on Amazon. If you're intrigued by the description or if you're a fan of shojo/romance manga, then you won't regret checking out this book, which is available now!
Why did it have to end like that!! 😫
I really want to read more!
I really enjoyed reading this manga, and I'd love to read what happens next. This was soo beautiful 😍😢
I do love mangas with spirits and demons ect and what could go wrong with throwing a bit of romance in too!
Sometimes I just think I'm way to easy to please when it's comes to mangas 🤫
Thank you netgalley and the author for allowing me to read this beautiful manga 🙏
Big thanks to Akita Publishing for a gifted e-copy of volume 1 in Aikawa Saki's Fox Fantasy series via NetGalley. This review is being given in exchange for the gifted copy and contains my own thoughts and opinions.
I've actually been a huge fan of Aikawa Saki since I was in middle school and have loved everything I've read from her. I have seen this series around on manga series but never got around to actually reading it. This was an awesome start to the series and I'm super invested to see how the rest of the series will go considering this first volume. I really liked Iori's character and the start to his romance with Koharuand maybe even a live triangle later on. Defibrillator plan to read the rest of the series especially because it's available to me via my Kindle Unlimited subscription.
