This is my first Chasity Bowlin book, and I loved it. Allow me this one caveat – there seems to be way too much going on around this romance at first, but it all comes together well. Sleepless in Southampton brings in characters from previous books in the series, which I would have loved had I read the other books in the Hellion series. Don’t get me wrong, this book is a stand-alone, but I like to know the ‘details’ of other characters. Additionally, Effie and Highcliff are a big part of the activity in this book, apparently, leading to one of their own. I just felt they were too prominent here as I was not ‘invested’ in them yet.

Now on to Sophie and Henry – they are adorable. Sophie has been raised by Effie to be independent and strong. She definitely is that. Henry loves that about her. Henry, at first, is not independent enough. By his own admission, he feels run over and controlled by his uncle and aunt, the duke and his duchess.

You will find this to be a light-read that moves quickly with all of the various situations taking you through Sophie’s life as she gets to know and love Henry. They meet on a stage while he is running away from his responsibility. Once Henry tells Sophie who he really is, a duke’s heir, they can really get to know each other honestly. Through the first of Sophie’s mishaps, she ends up living with his aunt and uncle as companion for his cousin, who is adorable, too.

From there the action takes off, Sophie and Henry become investigators which make their lives a little crazy, but fun to read. Just a question – I understand the ‘well-ordered household’ as pertains to the aristocracy, but if Henry thought for a second Sophie might be at the backdoor after being ‘lost,’ why did he not run down the hall to find out rather than wait in the drawing room to find out if it were her? Having shared this little bit of negativity, I still thoroughly enjoyed this book and plan to read the previous books in the series to catch up.

It happened on the way to Southampton.....So the story begins!

Sophie was on her way to her first job to be a companion to an elderly lady. She meets Harry and they strike up a conversation. Unfortunately, she soon finds out her that her employer has died! Oh gee and here she is on her own.

But Harry, aka Lord Harry rescues her and takes her to his relatives home who he was visiting. So far so good? Well yes, it actually is and I was quickly drawn into the story and loved it!

A great mystery, suspense, a villian lucking and a romance blooming! Prepare to be thoroughly entertained!

I found this novel entertaining and action-packed. Things go from bad to worse for Miss Sophia Upchurch when she discovers that her new employer is dead. Having met Mr. Henry Meredith on the coach from London, she is relieved to see him when she stumbles back into the inn to find a way back to London. Henry, thinking to take a day out from his responsibilities, has been hiding his true identity and Sarah takes it badly when she realizes that he is in fact a Viscount. However, she isn't too proud to accept his help when he offers to introduce her to the Duke and Duchess of Thornhill, as a possible companion to their ailing daughter. Blessed with intelligence and common sense, Sophia quickly discovers that there is something very wrong with the treatment Philippa has been receiving and voices her concerns to Henry. Surprisingly, he takes her seriously, and thus they enter into a fast-paced adventure as the truth starts to emerge. Unfortunately, trouble finds Sophia in the Duke of Thornhill's home as well, and it seems that she has little chance of winning if it were not for Henry's determination to unearth secrets. The plot is a little busy with multiple facets, leaving me a little confused at times, but it does eventually conclude with a happy, albeit irreverent, wedding ceremony, and the villains receive their just deserts. I received a copy of this novel as a gift through Dragonblade Publishing and NetGalley and this is my honest and voluntary review.

A well written book with a steamy end
This book is very well written. The characters are very compelling and the story moves at aa good pace. I would have given it 5 stars except for the last few chapters. These chapters contain a number of steamy scenes that at times are quite explicit. The scenes really don’t add anything to the story and seem to be included just for the steam. The story revolves around Sophie who was raised in a home for illegitimate girls, having never known anything of her parents. She is now grown and sets out to be a companion for an older woman. Upon arrival she is discouraged to find the woman that hired her has died, leaving Sophie stranded with no real idea as to how to proceed especially after having most of her money stolen. As she is trying to decide what to do next Henry, who she had met on the mail coach arrives and on hearing her plight offers her a position as a companion to his cousin while the situation is resolved. This offer leads to the revelation that Henry is really Lord Henry Meredith, Viscount Marchwood and far above her in station. Mix in a snobby aunt with her mysterious fiancée who holds a dark secret and so immediately dislikes Sophie, another fun, welcoming aunt and uncle with their daughter, as well as other intriguing characters and you have a well crafted story. I received an early copy and this is my honest review.

Interesting story of Sophia, a woman who heads out to the country to an assignment as a chaperone. She is rescued by Henry, a viscount who happens to be traveling on the coach with her. Henry rescues her and brings her to his family. Sophia suspects the doctor treating Henry’s sister is a quack and sets out to find proof. Henry is suspicious of his aunt’s fiancé so he starts to investigate him. Both investigations lead to threats to Sophia and Henry, which only makes them closer. I received an ARC from NetGalley and Dragonblade Publishing for my honest review.

❤️❤️❤️❤️
💋💋

Everything is going wrong on a grand scale for Sophia, the man she is falling for is a member of the upper echelons of society not a mere Mr.
Her life has turned on it’s head.

This is a really enjoyable read, a sort of love story, murder mystery book, a very good and entertaining one.
I very much appreciated the thrill of the adventure Sophia finds herself in.
It was a satisfying read, it fit beautifully with the rest of the series too.
I recommend giving the whole series a read, Chasity is a wonderful writer.

I received an Arc copy of this book and chose to post this review

While this book is the latest in a series it can be read as a stand alone. Although there are chapters from previous books that make an appearance.
Sophie is leaving Darrow school for her first position as a companion. However things don't go as planned when her employer dies before she arrives.
Henry only just met Sophie in the mail coach but when he encounters her again, he helps her gain a position as his cousin's companion.
Phillipa suffers with megrims and Sophie does not trust her doctor.
Which set Sophie and Henry on the path to solve a mystery and a murder.
With villains popping up right and left, murder, false identities, kidnapping there is a lot going on in this quick paced novel.
Also I can't wait for Effie and Highcliffs's story but that won't be for a while per the author's note.

It’s always a pleasure to get to know a new author and Bowlin’s book was a real treat! It introduced me to the world of the Hellion Club and now I look forward to reading the previous, but expecially the following books of the series! The plot is really enjoyable, because there’s suspense and intrigue as well as a good love story. Side characters are well defined and as important to the story as Sophie and Henry, the heroine and hero of the book. I particularly enjoyed Euphemia Darrow and her love interest and I can’t wait to read their book, which will be the last of the series.
As for Sophie, I think she’s a wonderful character; she’s very young, but a smart and capable young lady and I liked the way she’s brought to life in the book. I loved Henry as well, because he’s a proper young man who’s always done his duty toward his family and he deserved a little bit of lighteness and of happiness in his life. In conclusion, this is a really good book worth reading!
I voluntarily read and reviewed an advanced copy of this book. All thoughts and opinions are my own.
