“Wild Earl Chase” is the second book in the Earls Are Wild series by Anna Markland.
This book features Lady Susan Crompton and the Earl Griffith Halliwell. Lady Susan doesn’t have time for arrogant self-absorbed earls. Halliwell, similarly, doesn’t have time for bluestockings who get into his business… or do they?
This story is fiery! I enjoyed how Lady Susan used Halliwell’s weakness (horses) to get in his business and tries to fix a situation. The suspense isn’t overwhelming but enough to keep the reader engaged all the way to the end.

Intriguing book with some action, some steam and two interesting characters. I would certainly try other books by this author, even if this one was not everything I hoped for. The characters seemed to fall in love quite fast, overcoming their initial dislike, and in my opinion she was too forward for a virgin from the sexual point of view. The horse is certainly the best character of the story and I loved the little girl too. The villain was really repulsive, but it was dealt with quite too fast for my liking. Anyway I had some fun reading this book, so I can give it four stars.
Reminder to self...stop reading books where the plot revolves around horses. I found this book to be a bit tedious. I was interested in the story because I had read the first book in the series and already knew some of the characters but I had a hard time believing in Susan and Griff's romance.
Loved this enemies-to-lovers story! Another new author for me to read. Lady Susan is a dark-haired Bluestocking that is appalled by the neglect that is perpetrated against the tenants of Griffith, an Earl. Griffith's only interests are horse breeding and blondes. They are constantly grating on each others nerves. As these two clash, sparks fly, both come to realize that the other may be what they didn't know they had been needing.
Thank you Anna Markland, Dragonblade Publishing and NetGalley for allowing me an advance copy for my honest feedback.
oh this guy! I was pretty irritated with our hero from the get-go. So, the only way is up. He is Griff, Earl of Halliwell,, whose number one thing in life would be... horses. No real issues here... except this is to the neglect of his responsibilities. He is an absentee steward of his property and tenants, which of course causes repercussions. He totally deserves this. Worst thing about him... his views on women... his other number 1 thing. Rake that he is, he believes women are pretty much just good-for-mistresses. Ohh that's where we just want him taken down. Can't wait! You know it's coming. So, enter our heroine. She is Susan--determined, feisty, bluestocking. Everything that will be the perfect for hijacking Griff's attention, adjusting his viewpoint of women, and getting his face on that estate. All she needs to do is pluck a thoroughbred stallion right out from under his nose. That's the scratch on the record that spins his world around. Great, great story!!!
The Rakehell and the Bluestocking
Their first meeting did not go well. They started out as enemies, and it surely was not going to end well. Then, Susan wanted to know about horses, a topic near and dear to Griff’s heart. Could an ornery horse with deformed feet unite them, or would it separate them even further?
Griffith is a rakehell, and Susan is a bluestocking. The two surely did not mix, but love has united stranger bedfellows. Would the attraction between the two turn to love, and could Griff and Susan have a meeting of the minds? I enjoyed this story and would recommend it to those who like historical romance with a dash of suspense and intrigue. There is a villain from the first book who will come calling. You will understand the story without reading the first book, but it is always fun to read books in order.
I love a good enemies to lovers story! This is a really good one! Griff thinks he is the best thing put on earth, until Susan knocks him down a few notches. Susan loves learning, when she learns Griff is looking to buy a thoroughbred horse, she decides to learn about them and just happens to go to the races where she learns of one being sold.... While Griff and Susan butt heads there is also someone looking to cause trouble and even kill people.
This is such a good story, highly recommend!!

The argumentation between the two main characters is spot on! The author has truly selected the perfect personalities for these two and to mesh them together into the right Plotline!
Earl Halliwell is consumed with the breeding of his horses. He had a one track.mind and can’t be bothered with little things such as running his estates. On the other hand, Lady Susan Compton is the exact opposite and finds it deplorable that he has let his tenants suffer. She is definitely a strong willed female which he has no use for and this is where the book comes alive!
I definitely would recommend this book.
I received a advanced copy from NetGalley and DragonBlade Publishing and these are my willingly given thoughts and opinions.
This is my first book from this author, and ever though it is a series you can completely read it alone.
I loved how smart/ sneaky Susan is throughout the book! How she researches everything and knows the library even when she is not welcome made my heart so happy. She is wonderful for Griffith who underestimates her all the time in the book. It's almost a hate to love story but not really so much hate as confusion and frustration on the part of Griffith.
Griffith Halliwell, Earl of Pendlebury is known for his two loves - thoroughbred horse breeding and blondes. Lady Susan Crompton is a bluestocking that sees Halliwell’s neglect of his impoverished tenants as appalling. When they meet, they are in total disagreement, yet sparks still fly.
An entertaining read with two unlikely characters coming together. The banter between the two made for an interesting read. As the book progresses, it will lovely see how Griff develops and how Sarah allows herself to fall under his charm. Throw in some danger and it had all the right ingredients.

This is a wonderful story! Griff is a rake, bit he meets his match in Lady Susan. She is strong, smart and determined, and the perfect kmatch for Griff. This hero and heroine will capture your imagination and your heart!
What a wonderful story! Here the hero definitely meets his match with the heroine. She seems to be one step ahead of him and that not only shakes his plans but also intrigues him. Susan knows as much as she wants to rattle him, she will have to defer to his expertise, but why does he have to spark feelings in her?
The author did a great job with this story.
This book was DELIGHTFUL. This was my first book by Anna Markland, and once I adjusted to the differences in her writing style from your typical romance novel, I loved it.
Griff is a rake and horse lover who neglects his tenants and family seat. Lady Susan is a bluestocking and interloper who tries to help Griff's tenants when they are arrested for attempting to protest. To get to know Griff better and what motivates him, Lady Susan goes to the library to study horses and horse breeding. She accidentally buys a prize stallion that Griff has his eye on.
Griff decides to seduce Lady Susan for the stallion. And hijinks ensue. I love how each of these characters sort of bumble over their intentions to each other and fall in love. I also love how neither of them fights it; they knowingly head towards it. I loved Griff's transformation and how he comes to love Susan and her bluestocking, headstrong, feisty personality.
I fell in love with these characters and found their inner musings to be delightful. Markland really strays from the "mold" most romance novelists stick to, it took a minute to figure out where she was going, but once I did, I loved it. I went back and read book #1. Just as delightful, these characters are my favorite. I will definitely be reading more from her, and I can't recommend this book enough.
England 1817
The quintessential paring. A rake and a bluestocking, oh and lets not forget a thoroughbred stallion that might cause a problem between the two. That is if there were not problems already!
Anna always delights with her well rounded characters and storyline that captures the imagination!
She was determined to let him know her disdain for him due to the treatment of his tenants. By luck she found out he was trying to buy an arabian horse for stud and an idea popped into her mind!
He was thoroughly irritated with Lady Susan and no, he did not find her attractive. Not one bit.... But he came up with a plan to get his horse back. Surely his charm would work on her?
A thoroughly entertaining story with many twist and turns to bring these two together, but well worth the journey!
Wild Earl Chase by Anna Markland finds us in the home of the leads in her previous book in the series, Every Earl Has A Silver Lining. Lady Susan Crompton is a bluestocking, and not a quiet one. She always has a cause and right now her cause is what is happening to the weavers who were captured after the so-called uprising. Their only weapon? A blanket. She is especially angry with the lord who should have taken care of them: Griffith Halliwell, third Earl of Pendlebury. She has to get back at him so all of a sudden she has an interest in his primary interest: horses. Arabian stallions, to be exact. She finds on and buys it. Not intending to take it away from him, but so be it. She then hatches a plan to send him back tot London. Just as he is hatching a plan to wrest the Arabian away from her.
This was a well-plotted and emotional book. Bluestockings don't marry rakes. People who don't care about anything rarely become people who do care. Yet Markland has managed both things in this lovely novel. She also manages to reintroduce people we enjoyed from the previous novel, and some we didn't enjoy quite so much. She has done a masterful job of story-telling, one that keeps the pages turning and the reader enticed. I recommend it.
I was invited to read a free e-ARC of Wild Earl Chase by Dragonblade, through Netgalley. All thoughts and opinions are mine. #netgalley #wildearlchase
Wild Earl Chase by Anna Markland was stupendous! This is the first book I've read by Anna and I loved it! She wrote about a racehorse that was a thoroughbred, Orion. Then there was the love story of The hero and heroine that just grabbed you.
4 stars
An interesting read. I'd read book 1 in the series which I liked a lot. Griff is more of a Rake and starts out quite self centred. Susan at the begining was very fiesty and feminist. As she becomes more beguiled with Griff I think she looses her edge a bit. The villain from the first book returns as does Pansy, Gabriel, Emma and Rebecca. Its still an entertaining read.
I voluntarily read and reviewed an advanced copy of this book. All thoughts and opinions are my own.
In this second book in the series, Lady Susan and Earl Griffith Halliwell are at odds with each other, even before they had met. I found that this book contained romance, adventure, and suspense as an old enemy returns to disturb their peace. Griff has one passion, namely horses. He lavishes on them all the tender care most mothers would give their children. Discovering his weakness, Lady Sarah preempts him by obtaining a much desired Arabian, hoping to bargain with him to do something about his neglected tenants and property. Sarah and Griff are as a match to kindling, and it doesn't take much for their feelings to be aroused. Given that Griff is a rake and seems to be totally self-centered, I was surprised to find that he actually has a good heart and despite Sarah's provocation, he manages to keep his cool around her. Sarah, quickly finds herself being charmed by both the man and the horse, and when he invites her to come alongside to assist him, her heart begins to soften. Unfortunately, the past refuses to stay put and their lives are once more put in danger. The story is generally well-written and the closing chapters bring tension and suspense, and although not everyone is a winner, justice is served and the novel ends on a good note. I received a copy of this book through Dragonblade Publishing and Goodreads, and this is my honest and voluntary review.

Enjoyable read that keeps you entertained and engaged in the plot.
The characters are good and I found the book easy to follow and it flowed really well.
I would enjoy reading more in this series.
There are some great characters that would do well in their own books,I hope their lives are followed up too x

"A strong woman needs a partner who recognizes that her strength will make him stronger." Isn't that the truth!!! I love it when a bluestocking brings a rake to his knees! This was a lovely story which I thoroughly enjoyed and I must say that for me, personally, Anna Markland never disappoints.
This is Griff and Susan's story and although she's a bluestocking with no intention of ever marrying and he's a rake in the first degree, an unlikely romance blossoms between them. You know it's going to be an interesting romance when one of their first conversations together is about stud farming! lol The attraction between them is very steamy!! It was also fun to have the couple from the first book, Emma and Gabriel, be in this story as well.
I received an ARC of this book via Net Galley and am voluntarily leaving an honest review.
