This book took some time for me to get into. However, I found the factual information so interesting as I’ve never read a book in this setting/ time frame before. I learned so much about the Berlin Wall even though I have visited what remains before and done the walking tour. I liked that the chapters were short. I enjoyed the characters and their connection to each other. Solid book and will read more for this author!
Another great historical fiction book. This makes one realize the sacrifices people make for their family during a time of fear, war, and surviving. But it proves once again, the love will always win. This story takes place during the cold war and the soviet rule. I felt this was a fast paced book that was very well written in fact based accounts of what life was like then. Amazing story that I recommend to anyone looking for something gripping and fast paced.
Anyone born after 1980, 41 years ago, has really no memory of the Berlin Wall and all it symbolized. Two generations of people, of not more, have no concept of how divisive the wall was. Mandy Robotham explores that in a great historical fiction work of two sisters, twins, cut off from each other in Aug. 1961. I was thrilled to read recent historical fiction. I think she captures the full gamut of emotions very well. Some of the middle part of the book might not have been too plausible, but that’s why it’s fiction. I remember the day the wall came down vividly, the joy and excitement. No one should forget that and this book is a testament to those feelings.
