I enjoyed this story from Alexa Aston just like I enjoy all of her work. I don’t typically read American Historical Romance stories because for some reason I usually find them lacking and portraying the same “wild west, damsel in distress” theme as if America’s history is nothing else. Alexa Aston has the ability to weave together a bit of history with engaging characters and create romance between unlikely people. This is what she has done in this story and I found it to be a refreshing change in American Historical romance, the story kept me entertained from beginning to end!

If you are looking to read a story that is slightly different from what you may normally read then I urge you to give this book a try!

alexa aston books always have me hooked. this one was a good one. I like the stories and have me wanting to read more.

I enjoyed another of these books from Alexa Aston's series, but this one wasn't a favorite. I enjoyed it well enough, but it took me a long time to get through it. It sits solidly in the "meh" category for me. I look forward to reading more from this author, though!

Another book in the Lawman of the West book down!

Blind Faith was a sweet read that I enjoyed a lot. Part of me wishes the other couples from the series would make appearances in new books. I would have liked to see Alena and John in their happily ever after.

Nora was such a badass female protagonist. Alexa Aston loves to write female empowered woman before their time and I am here for it. Nora helps take care of her father and son as well as dealing with the fallout of her first marriage and you wouldn't even know how hard it is on her.

Jack was a little judgmental at first. He made a lot of assumptions about Nora, and was annoyed at himself for liking her. I'm not the biggest fan of that trope. But it quickly went from dislike to like to love. The story sometimes seemed to move too fast. And there was a ton going on.

But Jack and Nora ended up making a sweet couple and my heart was happy with the last chapter.

A historical western romance that was fun to read. Has everything that a romance needs love, suspense, mystery and overall a great read. Enjoyed it from start to finish

Love and the Lawman by Alexa Aston is a predictable, yet enticing story of a young widow and a cynical sheriff in Colorado before statehood. Nora Cantrelle was skeptical of praying for people to die, as she had twice, and it had happened, both times. She was now a widow, after her depressed husband had overdose on laudanum. He had gone off to the War of Aggression a boy, returned a depressed man, married Nora, left again after a less than memorable wedding night and returned several years later sans one arm and one leg. He had refused any attempt to raise his spirits and had generally made life miserable for himself, his wife, and his young son. Now, after the war, life in the South was going nowhere so Nora, her father, son, and friends, Ben and Jess, took off to relocate in Colorado. By the time they got there, the man who had invited them and helped set them up had sold up and left with his wounded son. The new man was, to put it succinctly, a crook.

Nora was a strong, opinionated woman who was not interested in finding a man. She had had enough of that and was ready to set up their newspaper and run it with her father and Ben as she always had. Things proved challenging in many ways, wonderful in many other ways. Their new home was comfortable and more than adequate for their needs. her son, Robby, had made a friend, She had made friends. All was well. Then things got...interesting? Her father had found someone to love, and she had found someone, too. Was it love? Things happened. Some pretty normal, some not. A rancher was burned out, the paper supply became irregular, the newspaper office was vandalized, a man was murdered. Jack, the sheriff, was near the end of his contract, and a new man had been brought in. One man was buying up all the businesses in town. Jack, her fiancé, beat a man who had attacked Nora and the next day the man was dead. Jack was in jail. It was a heart-breaking story of love and loss, written as only Aston could write it. It is different? No. Is it worth the read? Definitely.

Silver Bluff, Colorado Territory
I know I say this every time, but I love historical westerns and Alexa Aston really brings them alive!

North meets south (being southern, I can relate!) in this entertaining story that brings two people together unexpectedly, both having sorrows in their past as they are trying to make a new start.

Jack had been through the war, endured losses and was doing his best to do his job as sheriff. But then he meets her...

Nora had just lost her husband, who had returned from the war damaged and not wanting to live. It had been all she could do to take care of their son and work with her father at the paper. Now they had come out west to make a new start.

Wonderful characters, some bad guys and a journey to find love that will have you captivated until the end! Love this series!

This follows the romance between Jack Duncan, a rough-around-the-edges Union veteran, and Nora, an expectation-crushing, Southern widow.

It takes place several years after the Civil War, so characters deal with issues pertaining to race and gender, as well as national relations between a war-torn North and South. What I appreciate most is how Nora pushes the gender and race norms (considering the time period). She doesn't put much stock in what is expected of her as a woman (she's a mother and a career writer), or what is expected of her as a Southerner (she values her relationships with racial and social minorities).

My favorite part is the western setting. I grew up watching Bonanza and Gunsmoke with my grandpa. Nothing beats the swagger of a western/cowboy/sheriff type character. There's something so confidently safe about them - think Little Joe and Sheriff Dillion **swoon**

But, if you are looking for a slow burn romance, this is not the story for you. Jack moved his relationship with Nora on fast forward. I'm disappointed because their first encounter set the stage for a PERFECT enemies-to-lovers romance. However, I acknowledge that some readers look for a fast pace in romance and Aston is definitely good at moving the story from one exciting part to the next.

While I appreciate the ruggedness of Jack's character - he's an experienced bounty hunter who has the skills necessary to keep a lady safe **swoon part 2** - there are some parts about him that I can. not. jive. with. He often comes across as macho - making decisions for Nora without her consent. He also makes assumptions about her thoughts and behavior, even though he doesn't really know her. I acknowledge that some readers look for this type of hero, but the macho man strong enough to fend for both is not my cup of tea.

Overall, if a fast paced, steamy-ish, Western romance, with a dominant male character, is your cup of tea, I recommend picking this one up.

Alexa is one of my favourite authors, although I thoroughly enjoyed this book the genre is not a favourite so I’m taking some convincing.

Good writing as always and great characters.
The connection was good and it kept my attention throughout.

This story has a lot going on and I love it. This series is so good and I am so glad more historical westerns are being written (I use to read them a long time ago). These stories are quite different from the typical Regency or Victorian romance. The characters are worried about their reputation but they live in the moment. Nora and Jack’s romance slowly develops over time and is so lovely. There is villains and shenanigans going on and how it is figured out (of course we know who the bad guy is but will he get what he deserves) and what happens to these characters is nail biting. Alexa writes these wonderful stories so if you want something different than Regency/Victorian, nothing wrong with those as I read them all of the time, try Alexa and this wild west series. There are a few others and I hope they remain in our mainstream for a while. I will warn there are some tissue moments.

This is a good western love story between a southerner and a yankee. Nora is a strong southern woman who moves west with her family to start a new life. Jack is the sheriff in her new town who fought for the north. They start out as enemies due to preconceived notions, but end up falling in love amidst all of the interesting supporting characters.

This was my second Aston book and my first western. Love and the lawmen was a fun story with lot of suspense and heart melting relationships. I loved the way Jack took care of Robby and wanted to protect Nora 24/7. I also loved that he was the jealous type and he was just amazing all in all. I liked how bad ass Nora was, she was not afraid to get her hands dirty if some one were rude to her or her family

I just finished Love and the Lawman by Alexa Aston, thank you NetGalley for an advance copy. I really enjoyed getting to know Jack and Nora in this book and I really loved both characters. It has been a while since I have read a book where the H & h didn't do anything to make me scratch my head wondering why. I really liked them individually as people and as a couple. There were a few twists and turns I didn't see coming, but mostly that was because they were a bit out there. lol This book is a very strong 5 stars. I've read all the books in this series and recommend them all.

Love and the Lawman, by Alexa Aston. The book was a page turner for me. For me it was an easy read. I like that the writer kept the wording simple. The plot of the story was amazing. There a number of surprises that are uncovered in the story.
The book is realistic. Mostly by the description of the details the writer created in the book. The characters personalities made the story even mote believable. I appreciate that the writer gave the readers and estimated age range for the heroine. The writer did excellent job with Noras background story as well asJack’s.
This book had me falling for the characters Jack and Nora. I like that the writer made these two people the focal point of the story. Their romance was a thrill to read. Jack brings his charm, swagger, ability to read people along with his intellectual talent as a sheriff. While Nora brings her beauty, sophistication, respectful upbringing, charming heart and sharp intelligent mind to small town that challenges her at every turn.
I feel the book definitely has a happy ending that left me glad to have read this book.

Love And The Lawman is a fun, adventurous treat! The writing is sharp and crisp. I haven’t read a western in ages; I am so happy I gave this entertaining story a chance!

Jack Duncan is a disillusioned union veteran who travels to Silver Bluff and becomes sheriff. Nora Cantrelle, a recent widow of a gravely injured confederate veteran, leaves everything behind and travels with her family to Silver Bluff to start a newspaper. Both are trying to escape the devastation of their past. Jack has survived but has emotional scars. Nora has fled a stifling, impossible existence. Both are empty and searching for fulfillment and love, even if they do not realize it.

Jack has the dependability and noble strength that I enjoyed. Nora cares for and places everyone’s happiness above her own. They are both giving and relatable. The sparks fly between the couple at their first rocky encounter. The connection is instantaneous and enchanting. The couple’s romantic journey is both passionate and sweet. The sensuality is evident between Jack and Nora in their first scene. I thought the couple’s burgeoning love was built at a heart-pounding pace.

The plot tackled serious issues and intrigue. However, it was also fun and hopeful. Alexa Aston spins a western romance that resonates with the reader. The story was intricate, yet not too angsty or overwhelming. The plot was populated with a plethora of vibrant secondary characters. The populace of the town was quirky and created a rich world for Jack and Nora. Love And The Lawman is the third book in the Lawman Of The West series. However, it can easily be read as a stand-alone novel. The story’s rich decadence enchants the reader and leaves them with a warm feeling of satisfaction. This passionate adventure ends all too quickly and leaves the reader wanting more.

This was SO good!! I thoroughly enjoyed Nora and Jack's story that takes place in Silver Bluff, Colorado Territory, at a time when settlers came to make a better life for themselves. Strong characters and a great storyline makes this another favourite story by Alexa Aston.

He's from the north and she's from the south and when they meet in the west, sparks fly. Both main characters have very interesting backstories and you can't help but fall in love with them and want them to be together. There's always that snake in the grass that tries to ruin their plans but the lawman and his woman are ready to take the danger on!!

I Loved It! Love and the Lawman by brings the Wild West to life with all the violence, action, and murder! Third in the series and each one is written in Alexa Aston unique writing style were she weaves danger, suspense and full of twist and turns that will keep you sitting on the edge of your seat. Each and every character came to life and you find yourself drawn you into their tale, with passion, well-paced, with a superb plott, and a heartstopping drama. The scenes are so strikingly detailed it paints an incredible backdrop that makes you feel like you are one with the story. It will hook you from the start and keep you turning the pages to the very end. Looking forward to reading Ballad Beauty!

I enjoyed reading most of, Love and the Lawman. About two thirds of the way through it started getting real predictable. Over all it's what I think of when thinking of the Wild West, before Statehood.
