A slow burner that gets under your skin and keeps your guessing. I really enjoyed this one and will look out for more from this author.
A quick and easy read that I found myself picking up after a long day to unwind. The characters are beautifully written and I came to love them within the first few pages
This Samantha King thriller is well crafted with an easy to read flow and lyrical quality. The cast of characters, however, are quite unlikeable. They all have secrets, so many secrets! As these secrets are slowly revealed, I found that I had guessed many of them correctly. Themes of abandonment, neglect and the emotional struggle of chronic illness. This is a quick read, I read it in one sitting on drive home from our lake house.
Thank you to NetGalley and HQ Digital for this arc in exchange for an honest review.
This book was easy to get into, but I'm not a fan of flipping back and forth between past and present, and it felt like I had two different books on the go.
The plot was twisty and interesting, but personally I found it a little slow and it took me slightly longer than usual to finish reading.
I did enjoy the story, and I did appreciate how well the plot knitted together, but it just wasn't quite thrilling enough for me.
Overall this was a good, well written book which kept me more or less interested in the storyline. Parts of it were a bit slow for me personally and it wasn't an edge of seater but the characters were interesting and well developed.
I can recommend this book and thank you to Netgalley and HQ Digital for allowing me to read this book.
Holly lives with her husband and their two children. The older one Marley, seven, has become rather withdrawn and Holly is trying to find out what is the root cause of this. Is it that the house is rather a mess as Holly has been rather busy and at times struggles as she has a heart condition or is Marley going through something else as she appears to have secrets? Holly sets up a box where Marley can post her thoughts or worries to see if she can find out more. Alternate chapters take us back to when Holly was a child and another girl Amy came to live with them quite suddenly. The book begins by Holly being taken to hospital remembering everything. This is one of those reads that you just have that feeling that there is something amiss but can't quite put your finger on it. I liked Holly and felt that she had been put through a lot growing up and even as an adult was putting everyone else first before her own health. A story of secrets past and present - some kept for so many years- affecting the future and of being overheard in part and misconstrued. A clever concept and one very well put across. A story brilliantly told and one perhaps to make you think. An engaging read- my first by this author- certainly one to look out for in the future

I was lucky to receive an advance copy of this book from NetGalley and the publisher in exchange for my honest review and opinion. This is a heart stopping thriller that will pull you in from page one and hold on to you until the very last page. I highly recommend this book and author.
I loved this book.
I read it all in a day as I couldn't put it down.
I kept on reading to see what happened next.,I was completely in to the story .
Very addictive .
Definitely recommend.
I thoroughly enjoyed this book. This is a slow burn about unraveling family secrets, both past and present, and the author does a wonderful job of building relatable characters while still maintaining suspense. I was drawn in immediately, and had a hard time putting the book down. It is the perfect balance between domestic fiction and suspense, reminiscent of Lisa Jewell or Liane Moriarty.
Holly’s lively and chatty daughter, Marley, has suddenly become sullen and anxious. Holly is desperate to get to the bottom of what has caused this sudden shift in her oldest child. Is Marley struggling to adjust to the birth of her new baby brother (BB), or is there something much more sinister behind her change in behaviour? The reader is taken down a meandering path of mystery as Holly tries to breakthrough to her daughter while also managing a seemingly strained marriage, and a best friend that has a flare for the dramatic. In her quest to uncover one mystery, Holly will find herself questioning everything she knows about herself and her family.
I appreciated King’s ability to tell the story through one point of view (Holly’s) while flipping between her childhood, recent past, and the present day (where hindsight is 20/20). The clever narration adds to the suspense and puts a unique spin on the genre. I found myself deeply invested in the characters and Holly’s own quest for answers. Holly’s inability to let anyone finish a sentence and her tendency to jump to conclusions was completely relatable (guilty as charged). It’s this consistent attention to detail that makes King’s character development flawless. The result is a satisfying and extremely engaging read.
This was my first Samantha King book, and I will definitely be reading more!
Thank you to HQ (Harper Collins Publishing), Samantha King, and Netgalley for a free copy of this book in exchange for a fair review.
The Secret Keepers Daughter by Samantha King
When Holly was seven another girl comes to stay at the house , Amy . She stays and the two grow up together . However Holly is never quite comfortable in the company of Amy , for so many reasons.
Holly is now a grown woman with a husband and two children , she revisits her childhood because of something her daughter is trying to say.
I was gripped by this story , you feel there is an under current , of something about to happen . It was tense , twisty and had plenty of plots in it to really get your teeth into. Can't wait until Samantha King brings out her next novel . I'm a fan.
I received The Secret Keeper's Daughter as part of a NetGalley giveaway.
When Holly Mayhew's vivacious young daughter Marley suddenly turns withdrawn and afraid of the world, Holly is determined to discover the source of her strife. To do so, she creates a "worry box" in which Marley can put her troubling thoughts. But as Holly begins to read through her daughter's notes, she worries that the little girl's fears--and those she herself has kept at bay for decades--are all too real.
This was a twisty, fun thriller through the beginning and middle of the book. Holly had a lot of mysteries in both her past and present and I felt like they were all brought together in a compelling and interesting way. I felt like the ending fell a bit flat for me--there were so many mysteries to untangle and somehow they all resolved in ways that made sense, but weren't necessarily super satisfying for the reader. Still, solid marks for the buildup of tension and a different twist on the typical domestic thriller.
What a gripping read!! I’ve not heard of this author before, but based on this book I’m excited to read more
