this one was darling!! the characters were endearing, the plot was entertaining, and the art was lovely.

hematite follows a young vampire who is determined not to conform to the societal norms of her heritage. throughout the graphic novel she navigates the intricacies of young love, teenage shenanigans, and bothersome parents.

this was certainly a fun, quick read. while the story provided ample entertainment i was still able to relax and enjoy the story while admiring the beautiful art. and the art!! this artist’s style is absolutely adorable and, for me, was the highlight of the graphic novel. would definitely recommend!

This was a cute little story with a dark twist near the end that I did NOT see coming. I liked the art style and thought the characters were all portrayed well with their magical characteristics, like how Hematite uses an umbrella during the daytime because the sun and vampires don’t mix. I also thought it was neat how the werewolf could change from human to werewolf and wasn’t just always a werewolf like in some stories. Also the poetry in this book is great and really has that “romantic pining” tone down! Seriously though, that ending… just why… It was SO TRAGIC and I really hope things get better for Hematite in the upcoming volumes.

This graphic novel was a brilliant introduction to the supernatural world through a teenager's eyes. Our main character is a moody vampire who doesn't enjoy blood and craves companionship, and I really enjoyed how fast-paced the plot moved. The climax of the story comes along quickly, and I found myself wanting the next installment. Additionally, I found the illustrations to be incredibly charming.

I felt as though this volume was a bit short as I finished this in about twenty minutes; I think it would have benefited the overall story if more happened throughout. The ending felt a bit rushed and I would have appreciated a bit more detail in the last quarter of the book.

Hematite is a delightful story about a young vampire who could not be more different from her family and is desperate to distance herself from her heritage. This graphic novel combines beautiful illustrations and fantastical creatures to impart wisdom on being true to yourself and sticking up for your friends, as well as the age-old issues that come with growing up. I cannot wait for more books in this series!

Hematite is about a vampire who is more into poetry and romance than joining the other vampires in their blood diet and lifestyle. It's a spooky novel that's sure to please any, especially those interested in the Addams Family.

I really LOVED the artwork! It was almost 1800s style which made sense since that was the backdrop, it worked really well with the melancholy atmosphere. It's snarky at points, but it's still somewhat dark. I really enjoyed the characters and their designs and how often they went "monstrous" on the page. I'm excited to read the next one!

A haunting and gothic graphic novel, this is a great read for any vampire/paranormal fans!

This is a interesting, beautifully illustrated graphic novel for children and teens. I feel like it’s something my nine year old daughter would really enjoy. The fact that it’s a little sad and melancholy really speaks to me as everything isn’t sunshine and roses all the time. I’m looking forward to the next installation to see what becomes of Emilie.

I really liked the art and the beginning. If this is a standalone, then the ending was definitely too open and rushed. There wasn't much explanation about the world so the world building was a bit confusing. All the different creatures along with humans doing everyday things. It had a lot of potential. It would've been perfect if longer maybe.

I am not really a “ graphic novel” kind of a person and I picked this book out of curiosity. Oh my! What a surprise ! I love it!

The story is actually cute . Hematite is adorable despite of her “vampire teenage rage”. Who wouldn’t be? When you are in “poetry deep” and interrupted and insulted? I wouldn’t use the word “bully” because Hematite is not a vampire you wanna messed up with! I actually love that about her.

Oh! What is teenage life without teenage love story?? Hematite and her Emile the human boy and the inspiration behind those heartfelt poems? Sigh. It was cute but what a plot twist we got here! I have not recovered!

That’s right! A cliffhanger! I would love to know what happens next.

Overall, a very engaging Graphic novel. Beautifully illustrated . This is my first graphic novel and with that experience ? I’ll surely be exploring more on this genre.

This book may be for other people but it wasn't for me. Mostly I found the main character to be violent right off and so it's just not for me.

This was actually a quite interesting teen fantasy graphic, concerning a young vampiress who cannot get anything right in the eyes of her parents. She's just trying to be herself, but when that involves lusting after a human, misbehaving at school and trying to go vegetarian, well – she's always bound to have friction in her life. The world – or at least her school – is made up of copious different abnormal characters, from werewolves to things with half a skull, and while it's clear the world-building is not really as convincing as it should be, I think there was mileage in watching this particular maverick. Teenaged angst writ so large with a genre dressing has been done countless times before, but this was by no means a waste of time. The series to come, when it does, has the potential to get four whole stars, so I'll be brave and give this opening volume them, and hope my optimism isn't misplaced.

I enjoyed reading this comic. It's fun, beautiful and also a little sad. The art style was cool and the writing could have been better but it was okay enough to read.

If there is anymore to this comic I will definalty try reading the next one.

Hématite is a vampire from a prestigious family of esteemed bloodline. Much to her parents' dismay, she drinks a self-concocted herbal stew instead of blood and attends an integrated school which other supernatural beings also attend. The young vampire is also in love with a human, which leads to deadly consequences.

This graphic novels tells of a dark and engaging tale. I love the many themes it highlighted, such as parental pressure to conform to high society as well as racism, social divide and the struggle to fit in.

However, it ends with a cliffhanger and I need more??!

This is the first comic novel I've read since forever it seems (more like 15 years)!!

I absolutely enjoyed reading it. It was good in every aspect I can imagine, and in the end it kept my curiosity burning for what's coming next.

And not until I searched the title on Goodreads, that I found it was translated from French!

Hematite follows around this vampire girl who has to stick to the rules set by her parents only when she wants to be herself and write poetry. She takes a liking towards a human man named Emile, and there is such longing in this story. The colour palette and artwork used in this graphic novel was really beautifully illustrated!

Hématite follows the titular character who is a vampire. She struggles with both the prejudices against vampires and expectations of being one. All she wants is to write poetry and love which she finds in a human named Émile.

This graphic novel was a quick and fun read but nonetheless layered with longing and melancholy. I loved the art style and colour palette used throughout was beautiful. It created the perfect ambiance for the story.

Hématite was a lovable main character who was easy to root for. I enjoyed reading about her struggles with her identity and what both society and her family expect of her. It felt genuine and authentic. There is something in that feeling that will ring true for many readers.

Her relationship with her best friend, Drunela was my favourite part of this story. They always tried to understand each other and shone as characters whenever they were together.

The cliffhanger ending leaves you wanting more from the story and I look forward to picking up future installments of this charming story.

Who doesn’t love a story about vampires? Throw that into a graphic novel and I AM THERE! Firstly, the illustration style in this graphic novel is GORGEOUS. Victoria Maderna and Federico Piatti did an excellent job of capturing the setting and mood in each section. The colour use was perfect, the dark blues contrasted with the fiery orange tones were so captivating alongside the narrative.

Okay, we have had a couple of books about ‘blood free’ vampires in the past, but I personally don’t tire of them. I think this being aimed at children, it makes sense and it does add nicely to the story line. I love all the other ‘monster’ character design too, I found myself giggling the first time I saw mr jelly with a brain. Hehe! They all fit brilliantly into the world and added to the school imagery I had going.

The story line was pretty good, there were lots of great ideas. I do think some weren’t necessary in the first volume as it became a little stop start. But I do also understand that they all ADD to the world of Hematite. It’s a story of friendship when maybe family life isn’t perfect, which a lot of children can relate to so it’s an important topic! It’s a story of choices and consequences but not in a heavy way.

I would like to learn more about the school system as there was a lot of ‘vampires don’t belong here’ at Wolves. So I would really enjoy seeing more of both school systems, the pros and cons. I loved the creativity Hematite has, a lot of comic/graphic novel readers can relate to that. Also adored the friendship with Drunela, again I’d love to know more about her story.

The ending was perfect honestly, fit this plot well but also left me wanting a volume 2! As a creative bean myself I loved that it opened and closed with the crow imagery. So satisfying.

Very cute, spooky art and an interesting concept of a world where all kinds of undead creatures live openly alongside humans. Kind of some extreme tonal shifts, and I wasn't sure of the intended audience as the themes also seemed to be all over the place, but overall I did enjoy it.

This one fell a little flat for me. It had some weird components, wasn’t expecting an accidental death or really anything that happened in this. It felt both too long and not long enough. I did love the magical aspects and the vampire pov but not sure I would read it again.
