As a fan of any books and especially rom-coms, I loved this latest release from Ms. Ferguson. I loved the storyline of this book due to the “secret” editor and the back-and-forth banter between the writer and editor. The witty dialogue between the two is engaging and funny. I loved the romantic aspects of this book and of her other books. I was able to be pulled into the story quickly and did not want to stop reading until the book was read. I highly recommend this story and know you will not be disappointed!
***I was given a free electronic copy of this book from the publisher. This is my honest opinion. Even though I received this copy free, this is my own opinion.
This book was really cute. A perfect little publishing romance! I mean, a book about books AND a romance? sign me up ASAP! Also THAT ARC ROOM THIUGH 🤯📚💕 As much I like spicy reads, I also really love a good clean romance, and this one was perfect for that!! Thank you so much Thomas Nelson for this e-ARC!! I appreciate it so much.
I enjoyed this book and have already recommended it to friends! Having spent time in Nashville, it was cool to recognize the location and spots mentioned. I really liked the premise of Savannah unknowingly writing and editing this book with Will, I thought it was also a nice mix of editing content as well as other plot points. Overall, I think this was a fun, easy read!
Received a digital ARC of this book via NetGalley.
I’ve said it before and I’ll say it again: I love books about books and chick lit. Another great pair! However, I did see the “mystery” coming; it was pretty predictable. However, this was a nice light read.
Quick, easy and extremely enjoyable! If you are looking for something to dive into head first and are a fan of love stories AND love books about books (who doesn't!!), this is the one for you
I was absolutely captivated by this book.
Savannah Cade's parents expect their daughters to overachieve and yet, Savannah is an editor at a struggling publishing house, and her ex is marrying her sister. Not really the stand out type, Savannah is just average. But she has dreams of writing a novel. And not just any novel, but a romance, which is a genre that's frowned upon at her publishing company.
There's a secret room in the publishing house where Savannah goes to get some peace, and after dropping her manuscript in a meeting with the new boss, she leaves it in a mess in this private room with the intention of coming back later and dealing with it. But when she returns, there are notes in the margins of her manuscript and it's neatly put together. Someone is secretly editing her book. And as the notes turn more personal, Savannah finds herself intrigued by her mystery editor, and falling a little bit in love with him via his messages.
Everything about this story was fun and flirty. You can't help but root for Savannah, and for her to take control of her life and follow her dreams.
I received a complementary copy of this book from Thomas Nelson Fiction through NetGalley. Opinions expressed in this review are completely my own.
I had high expectations for this book, because I really loved its premise. Although it was a good read, it wasn’t as amazing as I hoped.
My favorite part were the characters. I really connected with them, Savannah specially. My least favorite part was the development of the plot. From the first time Savannah’s manuscript was edited, I already knew who was the editor. I don’t know if the point was for it to be a mistery to the readers as well, but it really wasn’t. I also thought that the last third of the book was a bit slow.
Overall, it’s a good book and I do recommend it if you’re looking for a light, fun story. I do warn you that it has less romance than it looks.
Such a sweet story! I’ve never read one of Melissa Ferguson’s books before, but after reading this, I am a fan. As I read the story of Savannah and the mystery person editing her manuscript accidentally in a hidden room at her office, I pictured it as a Hallmark movie. Things were a bit predictable, but in the best, most comforting way. The story was delightful and I can’t wait to read more!
4.5 rounded up.
This was adorable! It could've been incredibly cheesy, but I thought it avoided being cliche in a bad way. I loved the main character and her love interest, together and on their own. The mutual respect they grew and the way they looked out for one another was incredibly sweet, and something I always love seeing in romance novels. I also adored that it was set in Nashville! One of my favorite cities and this book definitely did it justice.
My one quibble is that we don't necessarily see enough passion for writing from the main character. Her love of books is apparent, but we don't get a clear sense of why or how writing is so important to her. I would've liked to have seen more of this considering the book revolves around reading, writing, and editing. The continued emphasis on her family name was a bit odd too in my opinion.
Overall I loved this book and definitely am interested in reading more from this author.
Thank you to NetGalley for this arc ! I was looking forward to this book. It met my expectations and more ! Definitely a slow burn romance. Loved everything about this book
I loved this book so much and I could not put it down (hence why I basically read it in one day)! I loved all the bookish aspects of this story and that the main character works in publishing but is also trying to publish her first romance novel. This book made me laugh SO much and I was really rooting for Savannah the entire story! I could not believe the lack of support from her family and ex bf, but who really needed them when we got to hear from her mystery editor. It was so fun reading about her reactions throughout her whole editing process and I was proud of her for creating such a solid story by the end of the book. And the little ARC room and hidden room that Savannah leaves her manuscript for her secret editor sounded like a dream, wish I could visit the space! Melissa writes such great stories with such real characters and now I need to read all her other books!!
ARC provided by Thomas Nelson through Netgalley.
I was very sweetly surprised by this romcom. The story follows Savannah, an associate editor, at a small publishing company in Nashville, Tennessee. She is a funny and relatable female lead, and I liked her as a narrator. Several key elements of the plot were predictable or too convenient--her on and off again ex is engaged to her sister, the son of the publishing company's president shows up the same time she starts getting notes from a mysterious editor, etc. But even though I knew where things were heading, I felt like there was a layer of dramatic irony (that was either intentional or not intentional) which made watching Savannah go through everything a little more fun.
Overall, this isn't the most ground-breaking romance to ever exist, but it was a fun read and I'm very grateful I finally got around to reading it.
This was such a darling book! I loved the idea behind this romance and it was an easy fun read for spring break! Perfect for book nerds! :)
A cute book that gives a great insight on what it takes to get a book published. This was a fun clean read that I thoroughly enjoyed.
Meet Me In the Margins was one of the cutest clean romances that I've read this year. This book follows Savannah an editor at a publishing company as she writes her own novel and finds that she has a secret editor in a secret room at the publishing company. It had me laughing and gasping. I highly recommending reading this delight of a book if you are looking to be wrapped up in all the warm and cozy feelings that a romance provides.
I have enjoyed every book I have read by Melissa and this book continues to show she is an amazing author.
I love my sleep but apparently my brain loved this book more and I couldn’t go to sleep because this book kept me to interested. I really loved everything about it. The characters and the storyline, so good. I wouldn’t say this is a Christian read, as I don’t think Jesus is mentioned once, but it’s a good clean read.
Melissa had me questioning things even though I was so sure about something but she did a good job of making me wonder.
If you love contemporary romance I am sure you will love this book.
A copy of this book was given to me through Netgalley. All opinions are my own.
Thanks to the publisher and NetGalley for a review copy of ‘Meet Me in the Margins’ by Melissa Ferguson. Thoughts and opinions are my own.
The summary of this caught my interest as an editor who secretly writes romance is helped by a mysterious editor she starts to fall for. Unfortunately this wasn’t a great read for me but on the plus side it was a fast one since I couldn’t put the book down until the sleeziest character finally got acknowledged for his sleeze although he didn’t get the harsh beat down that he truly deserved. (F U Ferris/Farris however you spell it).
So Savannah is the editor protagonist and she’s a total doormat. She also seems really bad at her job as she does nothing but work on her secret romance manuscript and seems annoyed by and neglects her authors. She thinks kissing is “gross” and her manuscript gets rejected by some big name publishing person who inexplicably gives Savannah another chance to write the thing. A mysterious editor starts leaving her harsh editorial notes and Savannah rewrites her story while falling for the guy leaving the notes. The mysterious editor is “secretly” her boss but he’s hardly ever around. Savannah somehow falls for her boss too despite them having no chemistry and then she’s torn between the mysterious editor who she isn’t sure is her boss and her actual boss. She also snitches on the other coworkers and gets people fired. So nepotism is bad for other coworkers and is only ok when it helps Savannah. I kept waiting for some sort of undercover boss situation where the boss she had a crush on surprised her by firing her because of her working on her manuscript instead of doing her job.
The main thing that kept me going through this book was wanting to see Farris called out for being awful. He and Savannah dated for EIGHT YEARS and then he breaks it off with her and gets engaged to her younger sister. And everyone is just going along with it because “family is loyal” and it was so gross. Like Savannah your sister sucks and your parents suck and Farris absolutely sucks. Please get a spine. Savannah’s sister and Farris also let Savannah live with them (ew) and Savannah’s sister micromanages all their lives and is basically giving Savannah an eating disorder. But family is loyal so it’s fine (ew again). This feeling of confusion that what I was reading was just bonkers kept me turning the pages. Farris is creepy towards Savannah and even tries to get her back. Savannah then goes to comfort her awful sister who overheard the whole thing. What is wrong with all these people? Everyone needs therapy.
After all those rewrites, Savannah’s manuscript is rejected again which made me laugh because I assumed she’d get it handed to her on a silver platter. She has to query like every other author and finally realizes how it feels when she has to reject authors. Omg she never realized how hard it is to be rejected! I wanted to smack her on behalf of all the authors stuck in the query trenches. But then the silver platter comes back in with the previously stuffy small publisher where Savannah works expanding to allow for the dreaded commercial fiction and even gasp “sweet and uplifting romance.” Never mind that romance keeps the lights on in publishing but this supposed romance book spends most of the pages making it seem like being a romance reader and writer is something to be ashamed of. Maybe this would have done better as women’s fiction? Anyway, Savannah’s publisher boss basically hands her a book deal and he’s revealed to be her mystery editor (duh). So now they can be in love while publishing continues to be on fire and editors and agents quit in droves.
Very unrealistic and there wasn’t anyone to root for. I basically flew through this because I was actively rooting against Farris and waiting for someone to confront how creepy and awful he was. I hope a piano falls on him.
2/5 stars
I started this book last night around 11 (published February 2022). My iPad needed charged, so I was reading in my phone. I set timers so I would stay up too late. I also turned those timers off. I thought “just another chapter.” I reached that chapter around 2:30. (FYI-the “one chapter” was the last one.)
⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️ for making me stay up half the night reading, chuckling along the way.

I have been wanting to read Meet Me In The Margins by Melissa Ferguson for awhile now and am kicking myself for not prioritizing it sooner!
Savannah is an editor at a publishing house and is secretly writing a romance novel. She leaves her manuscript unattended and finds someone has made notes in the margins. The notes are good so she keeps the game going. Who could this mystery editor be?
I absolutely adored this book❤️❤️.
The premise was unique, the characters relatable and the Savannah’s inner monologue throughout the book was great!
I also really enjoyed a sneak peak into the publishing world, all of the book talk, and the ARC room as described just sounds wonderful!
I listened to this on audio and the narrator was great which really enhanced my experience with this book! I would definitely put this high on your TBR!
{Thank you to @netgalley and @thomasnelson for this gifted copy}
Meet Me in the Margins was exactly what a RomCom book should be. The characters were likable, and you knew they were going to end up together, but you weren't sure how it would happen. As an avid reader, I loved the setting of the publishing world! It was so fun to learn about. My only complaint was that this book wasn't longer. I would love to hear what happens to the characters!
