I really enjoyed this story. It was easy to relate to the characters and be invested in their relationship. Definitely a worthwhile read.
While I found Savannah so relatable to the point of me rethinking my career choices, I would have loved more romance! This book sold me on the description that it was a lot like You’ve Got Mail, and since that movie is a remake of my favorite movie, The Shop Around The Corner, I thought I would be obsessed with this book. I was not.
I loved how believable the characters were. How Will told Savannah he fell in love with her through her own fictional character. It was adorable.
Savannah’s dynamics within her family were very relatable to me, so I really loved the journey she had to go through to finally get to the point of being able to find her place within the family. I also thought that the side characters were very well developed and added to the story.
With that said, there were times that I felt like too much focus was given to Savannah’s relationships with everyone else and not enough focus on Will.
I wanted more scenes like the courthouse scene! That scene had me dying laughing and gave me the butterflies I look for in romances! The rest of the book really didn’t.
I will say any book that has me seriously considering a career change deserves praise, so overall I really liked the book and would recommend it. I just feel like parts of their romance were missing.
I loved the premise of this book but unfortunately the execution just didn’t do it for me. The story follows Savannah and her new boss Will who work at a struggling publishing house. Savannah is secretly working on a romance manuscript and hides it in a Narnia-esque secret room in their office. But someone else is using the space too, and they start leaving her edits and little notes on her work. I never really felt like I had any real sense of the characters personalities, and their chemistry didn’t come through at all for me. A lot of the secondary storylines also felt very disjointed. Ultimately I had a really hard time staying interested. Personally I like my romances with a heavy dose of spice, and this one is very chaste. But I would have overlooked that if the chemistry and plot were there. Sad to say, this one just wasn’t for me.
Thanks to NetGalley and Thomas Nelson for the free ARC in exchange for an honest review.
Reminiscent of the movie, “Who’s Got Mail?”, Meet Me in the Margins introduces us to Savannah and William. Savannah is an editor for a non-fiction publishing house run by William’s family. Savannah is also an aspiring romance writer, and when the two worlds collide, miscommunication and misunderstandings continuously occur. The two become friends and discover mutual respect and admiration. At the same time, Savannah is receiving help from another editor, for her book, but she doesn’t know who it is. There is family drama, an ex boyfriend, a manipulative supervisor, and more occurring at the same time, which keeps the story playful and fun. I found it to be a quicker read as well.
Thank you for the publisher for the e-galley in exchange of a honest review!
Oh my gosh this story is a dream for everyone: book enthusiast and aspiring writers too!
I love the concept of the story: Savannah works for a prestigious publishing house, while she also writes book under a pen name. She has an ongoing project (WIP) and she hides her printed manuscript in a room in a secret place at the office. Then somehow the next day there are suggestions for the chapters and such on the margin!! Here comes the mysterious helper who sways her heart and the rest is some super funny guessing game, who is the mysterious helper! :)
I enjoyed this so much, the sweetest romance I have read this month!
Melissa Ferguson had me captivated at the first description of Pennington’s ARC room and the awe of those who were given access to all of those lovely prerelease books and invited to take whatever they’d like. (Honestly, hasn’t every book lover had that dream at least once?!) As if that wasn’t enough to commit me to reading the entire book, Ferguson went on to describe what was to be discovered behind the filing cabinet in the ARC room (no spoilers!) and I was all in!
While there is some predictability to the story, I didn’t even mind. I was along for the ride as Savannah navigated her life as an employee, a sister, a friend, a writer, and a woman. The faith element of the story is minute, which I think was a bit of a missed opportunity. Adding the element of how Savannah’s faith played a role in her navigation of life would have enriched the story. I’m not really a romance reader, but this book provided a balance between the romance element and the many other aspects of a woman’s life, all while maintaining that lightheartedness that rom-com readers seek.
Thanks go to NetGalley and Thomas Nelson for the opportunity to read an advance copy of this book in exchange for my honest review.
Thank you to NetGalley and Thomas Nelson Fiction for the complimentary copy of MEET ME IN THE MARGINS by Melissa Ferguson, I received a complimentary copy in exchange for an honest review. All of the opinions are my own.
Savannah Cade is a wonderful character. She has a healthy self esteem and I loved how she described herself. I'm always a fan of books about books. Savannah works in the world of publishing. I loved the writing. I want to buy a copy of this novel.
Let me start off by saying this book was good, but not great.
Here is what I enjoyed:
The novel was full of humor. I always appreciate a book that can make me laugh so that was a definite draw of Meet Me in the Margins. I loved the scenes with Oswald in particular.
I liked that the book was literary in it's focus. I've always been curious about the publishing world so my eyes lit up when the author described it. I want to visit a room full of ARCs!
Romance novels with too much spice are a turn off for me so it was a nice turn of events to not have any spice. It would have been nice if the characters kissed before the last scene of the book though.
Another thing I didn't like is that there didn't seem to be a major plot line to the story. The novel wasn't centered around romance. There wasn't any conflict or discussion of real world events.
Overall, it was a cute read and I am glad that I was able to get an ARC of my own!
This book was such a great office romance… in a secret, love letter type way.
Savannah has a secretly manuscript and a secret nook at her work where she goes to hide. After leaving her book in the nook, she comes back to find that someone has written edits into the margins of her book. These edits, while honest and brutal, could be exactly what she needs to finally move from being a book editor to an author.
This book was well paced and the characters were likable. I would recommend this to anyone looking for something light hearted with a little mystery.
I received a complimentary copy of this book. Opinions expressed in this review are completely my own.

Imagine this — you’re just a girl working as an editor in a publishing company, one AGAINST publishing romance books. The kicker? You, yourself are writing a romance novel with dreams to have it published 👀👀
If you liked (or maybe didn’t like) THE HATING GAME, this is the cute (non-steam) alternative option… there might be a mystery man involved too 😵📣

💨 quick and cute read
Overall, this was a fun read that explored dreams, setting the workplace right, and getting closure on the past!
This book was okay but not as good as I was hoping, it was a very very slow burn romance and it just got a bit frustrating. The characters were okay but I never really connected to them.
This is a very cute rom com. The first time I saw this book I was instantly attracted by the storyline. I mean, one of my dreams is this one. I think it’s one of the most romantic things that could happen to me in my life ✨
I would've appreciate a little bit more romance dynamics, but the characters were very cute.
Of course it's not a revolutionary story (during the reading the plot was very predictable) but it's still a good book.
So in conclusion I appreciate this book and I rate it 3.5!
Oh I loved this book. The characters are lovely, the story was well paced and engaging and I adore reading novels about novels. The whole premise was fun and I couldn’t wait to read their notes to each other while falling in love over the page. I can’t wait to see what this author does next!
My next read a little later. Thanks to @thomasnelson and @netgalley for a copy to read and review. This book is already out.
The description lists this book as a cross between You Got Mail and The Proposal! I love both so figured I would give it a try.
Savannah’s dreams are coming true, the editor of the most successful romance imprint wants to see her manuscript. The only problem is that she is an editor at that same publishing house and has been writing her novel secretly. One day she finds that someone has found her secret book and left notes in the margin, very critical notes. Who could have done this?
This was a cute, fun book. I was so intrigued by the premise and am glad I picked it up.
Savannah Cade works at a small publishing house and is working on her own book on the side. The problem is, she is writing a romance novel, something that would get her fired if anyone found out. Through a series of mishaps, she ends up getting a mysterious editor for her manuscript. Who is this person? Whoever he is, he is helping Savannah get her shot at being published and for that, she is grateful and will swallow his cutting remarks. But that doesn't mean she has to like it.
I honestly wished there had been more about the editing of the manuscript. It didn't feel like it was as main a point as it should or could have been. There was a lot of time given to Olivia and Ferris and Savannah's relationship with them.
I loved the manuscript's editing room and Lyla was terrific. I also really liked relaxed Will. And while there was a lot of describing the old Victorian house, I kind of liked that. Could there have been less? Sure. But old houses are charming and putting a publishing house in one was brilliant. Oh, and I have to mention that when Savannah is lamenting all the work needed for entrepreneurship, I felt her pain. And don't get me going on the "requirements" to succeed on social media. I wanted to say "me too, girl!" and commiserate with her!
The ending seemed a little rushed in the romance department. I don't want to spoil things, even though you basically guess the ending from the beginning. There were a few surprises that I didn't see coming, which was nice. I appreciated the epilogue was two years later. It's always fun to get a glimpse into the future of the characters.
If I'm ranking Ferguson's books, Dating Charade is still #1, but this is second. It was cute and I would read it again.
This was a super quirky, light and fun romcom! I do wish there was a bit more romance but it was a great quick read. Nothing super significant to note, I think I was just hoping for something MORE to come out from this. Overall, I did enjoy it for a read that pretty much required no energy, but there definitely needed to be a bit more romance to have me completely hooked!
This was such an incredibly good book! All of the characters are lovable (even the ones that aren’t), and the plot is lighthearted and fun. I absolutely recommend this read!
"Told only from Savannah’s perspective, Meet Me in the Margins gives a fun glimpse into the world of a hopeful debut author.
What a fun story! While I would have loved to hear the thoughts of the mystery editor to know why he did some of the things he did, it would have spoiled the mystery. Well, kind of. Despite some misdirection, it was still clear who he was.
Savannah Cade’s family was a bit crazy. Especially her sister, Olivia. My heart hurt for how Savannah was undervalued and walked all over by them. And I couldn’t even imagine having my long-time boyfriend dumping me for my sister and then the whole family expecting me to act like everything was just fine. After all, Cades never make a scene. Ouch!
Savannah was wonderfully average, making her quite relatable. Some readers might object to the difficulty she had in standing up for herself but I found it made her more realistic.
For those who might be concerned, there are a few scenes in which the characters hang out in bars drinking.
Readers who enjoy clean rom-com will want to read Meet Me in the Margins.
I was given a copy of this book. I was not required to give a favorable review nor was any money received for this review. All comments and opinions are my own."
I truly enjoyed this sweet romance! The book publishing aspect was super fun and the characters were charming. Their romance moves at a nice clip and their chemistry was believable. I loved the character development in this one! 4 ⭐️
This was a disappointment. I was really rooting for this book to get better, but the storyline, tone, character development and chemistry fell way short. Frankly, if this is supposed to be a sweet, feel-good romance, it's
* too boring to even be sweet
* the exchanges between hero and heroine were not plausible for a romance
* I didn't feel good trying to get through this book
In fact, in my trudge through this book, I had picked up 2 other romances to help me get through the hump. It's not even a long book -- the other 2 romances I read were longer -- but it could barely hold my attention. I thought about giving up on it, but hated the idea of this being my 1st DNF of the year. Nevertheless, it took me 8 days to get through this book.
In thinking about the last sweet, feel-good romance with a mystery pen pal-like theme that I read, I far preferred Lauren Layne's To Sir with Love.
