I agree with the other reviewers who loves books on books. The couple in this story had the sweetest chemistry, and I appreciated the glimpse into the future. Melissa Ferguson is definitely on my follow list now!
give me a book on books and I am there. I love books about books and people that are part of the book world. This was just right for me. Love it all.
just reviewed Meet Me in the Margins by Melissa Ferguson. #MeetMeintheMargins #NetGalley
I was very excited to read this book as I love books within books or books about literature, but I was a little disappointed in the writing. It was a delightful slow-burn and Will was so sweet, but I wish there was more of him in this book.
Savannah is an assistant editor at a publishing company that is struggling financially and keep mine employees. The boss’s son, Will, comes to help his family company. Savannah has been secretly writing a romance novel, which does not fit the genre of books this company works with. She leaves her manuscript in her secret room at the company, she comes back to it with new edits from an unknown source. As she continues to work with this anonymous individual, she begins to have feelings for this mystery man.
I think Savannah, the FMC, was an incredibly likeable character from the start. The only problem I had with her storyline is her family, and maybe that’s why I felt for her so much. Her family was so mean to her and I did not love the whole situation with her ex and sister. It always breaks my heart reading stories about the FMC comparing herself constantly to her friends, family, etc.
I really loved Will and I wish we could have seen more of him. This book reminded me a little bit of “You’ve Got Mail” and it made my heart happy. I was hoping for more tension and chemistry, but overall it was a cute romance.
What a fun and cute story!
Savannah Cade dreams of being a writer and has a manuscript that's just ok. When she gets a second chance, she is thrilled. She stumbles upon a secret and finds a mystery editor for her story. This story has a You've Got Mail feel which drew me to the story in the first place. It didn't disappoint!!
I love the characters especially Savannah. She was relatable and someone I'd want to be friends with. The relationship between William and Savannah was fun to watch as well. It was fun to get a glimpse into the world of book editors.
This story is delightful. It has all the makings of a romantic comedy about books and writing. A secret room, a mysterious editor, drama, humor...all these make this story one of the best romantic comedies ever!
I recommend this book to my family and friends.
I voluntarily reviewed a complimentary copy of this book which I received from the publisher. All views expressed are only my honest opinion.
This book was so cute! Finally a book about publishing that accurately portrays publishing. So interesting that it was a publishing house not in New York; I think this was a good choice.
Melissa Ferguson is an auto-buy author for me and I will forever read everything she writes.
I adored this book! Books about books can be a hit or miss for me, but Meet Me in the Margins was unique. It wasn’t just a book about a bookshop owner that falls in love (which seems to be the plot of most bookish romances). Instead, it felt like a love letter to readers, bookstagrammers, authors, editors, and publicists. Along with a cute story, we get a peek behind the curtain into the world of publishing.
Melissa Ferguson always creates delightfully heartwarming characters. Savannah Cade was no different. Savannah is an entry-level editor at a boutique publishing house in Nashville, but her dream is to be an author. Savannah discovers a secret room in the publishing house called the “Book-Nook” where she decides to work on her own novel. One day she leaves her manuscript behind and returns to find notes in the margins. Who is this mystery editor?
The ending was by no means a shock, but I loved the story all the same. If you are someone that occasionally likes to pick up a feel-good read with characters that will draw you in—this is it. There were many funny lines, exchanges, and awkward moments throughout the book that made me laugh out loud or cringe in empathy. The romance is clean, quirky, and ever so sweet.
There were several subplots with secondary characters that I didn’t care as much about, but they keep the story interesting.
My absolute favorite thing about Melissa Ferguson's books is that she doesn’t spend time on a superficial insta-romance, but emphasizes building a foundation for a relationship that will last.
If you are a fan of witty, squeaky-clean, slow-burn romantic comedies full of heart definitely add Meet Me in the Margins (and every other Melissa Ferguson book) to your TBR.
Mixed feelings on this one. I loved the premise. I love reading books about books. But, her sister was awful, so awful that it was hard to enjoy the other parts of the story. The actual author should have taken the fictional editor's advice. Also, wouldn't she know most people that worked there? And why does she know right away that the editor is a dude?
Thanks to NetGalley for my gifted copy of this book in exchange for my honest opinion.
Meet Me in the Margins is a rom com about a assistant book editor named Savannah. She’s an aspiring writer with a manuscript that’s isn’t quite there.
I had hoped this book would be really good, but it totally fell flat for me. I almost DNF it but persevered. I am regretful of that choice as it took me way too long to finish because I just was not enjoying it.
This was such a fun and sweet romcom I absolutely loved it. Great premise. Savannah is a copy editor wanting to write her own novel. When she stashed it in a secret place at work she finds it’s been secretly edited by a mystery editor. This continues and banter goes back and forth in the margins. I love books about books! The chemistry between Will and Savannah is great and the story reads so quickly. I loved it!
Likes:
- a love story set in the world of publishing
- the two main characters' alter-egos talk through notes and post-its
- the hidden room!
- the female main character: there are a few funny comments she makes
- literally laugh out loud moments
- work best friend who has a life outside work
- redeemed sisters relationship
Dislikes:
- the female main character's family
- the predictability, at times
- rather cheesy, but I knew that going in
- not much depth over-all
- the sister's fiancé. ugh!
Well this was lovely, given the fact that romance type is something I'm venturing in to, I have to admit that this was one of the more refreshing reads.
I particularly love it when authors mention the title within the book:) i get giggly and get goosebumps haha.
What I have noticed having read a couple of romance titles
1) the protaganist is always petite ~ so that means I will never be able to be a character in a romance story as I am 5ft7inches (haha)
2) they always second guess themselves and whether the fella they like will ever be able to adore them the same way
3) the guy in question is always intelligent, tall, dark, handsome, and grumpy *lol*
I love the premise of the setting being at a boutique publishing house and I want to check out more of Ms Ferguson's titles :)
A sweet romantic comedy that brings the reader into the magical, yet cutthroat world of publishing.
Savannah Cade is an Assistant Acquisitions Editor for a small publishing house that specializes in high brow titles. Savannah has a secret, she is a romance writer on the side, and is working towards her dream of publication. But when her manuscript needs an emergency rewrite on a tight deadline she finds help from an unlikely source.
An engaging read set in the fast paced publishing world, I loved the setting of the book and how it felt like getting a sneak peek into the world of books. Savannah is a likable woman, fighting for her dream while trying to be a supportive friend and sister to those around her.
This was a fun clean romance, with a You've Got Mail vibe set in the publishing world. Will definitely has the Darcy-ish charm going for him. This was a quick read, sweet, engaging, with an entertaining premise.
I received a complimentary copy of this book. Opinions expressed in this review are completely my own. Though published by Thomas Nelson, this is a clean romance and is not a Christian novel as there are no themes of faith subtle or overt.
This was a PERFECT book for me right now. I loved it! Give me an editor that is writing her own book, add in a "mysterious" person that is reading it making notes for her, and then of course, the wealthy publishing house owner's son falls in. LOVE!
This cute rom com was just what I was looking for ! This story follows Savannah who works as an acquisition editor for a small boutique publishing house in Nashville. When William the publishing house owners son takes the Vp position Savanahs life is thrown into chaos as she try’s to submit a manuscript she been working for years. After a mishap with her manuscript during a work meeting she leaves it in her secret room she found in the ARC room ( yes an Arc Room!)only to return later to get it and find notes in the margin. When her manuscript gets rejected she asks this mystery editor for help as the continue to work on the manuscript they get to know each other and like what they read.
I really thought this was such a cute romantic comedy book. I enjoyed all of the characters Lydia was such a cute wild fire that I really wanted more of her. Even though Olivia made me roll my eyes way to much I also wanted to know what happened to her. I will say if your looking for a spicy read this is not the book for you, I was ok with it since I enjoyed the story so much. I will say my only issue with this book was the mystery editor and the whole storyline following that plot was so obvious that I could not see how anyone would be surprised. I would like to thank Netgalley and the publishers for a chance to read this book for an honest review.
An adorable secret identity office romance. I love Melissa Fergusons' books and can't wait to read the next one!
This had potential to be a really cute book, but I found the main character insufferable. She ruined the story for me. A lot of the events were very far fetched too. It just seems very “extra” in terms of the characters’ traits. The sister was extreme, and not believable. The authors the main character worked with were over the top in one way or another.
This just wasn’t for me.
I received an advanced copy. All thoughts are my own.
This book was totally adorable. I loved the main characters and the way they interacted with each other, and the slow dawn of realization on "Holly's" part on what was going on. The adding in of big words had me laughing, and I am all too familiar with ruthless editing comments.
A sweet story that would make a wonderful Hallmark movie. I enjoyed this book from beginning to end. The storyline flows easily and it was hard to put down. The characters of Savannah and William have a sweet chemistry that feels real and not forced. I could never resist a book about publishing books!
This is a fun rom-com that I can highly recommend for those looking for a light fun book. I am grateful to Thomas Nelson Publishing and Netgalley for providing me with an egalley of this lovely book in exchange for a honest review.
Savannah is an editor who dreams of having her own book published. When a coworker starts leaving notes in the margins, she ends up accepting their help. Who is this mystery editor, and why are they helping her? 📚📝📖
This was a cute read. It was light and fun. I really enjoy books about books, so all the editing and book talk was lots of fun. There were definitely some swoony moments, but I appreciated the family dynamic and character growth as well. I really liked this one! ⭐⭐⭐⭐
A sweet workplace romance. Savannah and Will share a secret room in a publishing house's attic. Will is Savannah's secret editor for her romance manuscript. As the two grow closer in person, Savannah's attraction to her secret editor grows.
