This was a fast-paced book about a time and place you don't see much in novels, Marrakesh in the 60s. This is a fictionalized account of real people during that time. Overall a great and interesting read!
Jane Green is simply incredible! That isn't simple at all, is it?! This story captivated me in a way that I just treasure so many things about it! The sense of adventure brought to life by descriptive writing and plot structure, the complexity of the characters, the element of pure fun and adventure combined with the mystique of intriguing references to the glitz and glamour of rock stars in the 60s and Talitha Getty with all that she was....I could go on and on! This book is beautiful and engaging. The world is brought to life through Claire, from small town England, who longs for so much more than her mundane life has to offer. Her experiences in Marrakech are sweeping and mesmerizing. I cannot recommend this enough!
This will appeal to nostalgia buffs (so, women in their 70s) and recent historical fiction fans.
A coming of age story set briefly around the rich & famous.
I'm such a Jane Green fan that I didn't read the description. It won't be my favorite book of hers but it's still an interesting, entertaining read.
This is my favorite book of the summer. I love historical fiction but I'm obsessed with the 60's, I read this book in one day, devoured is more like it. The life style of rock stars, groupies, the rich and famous, it's beyond anything I can imagine and Jane Green described it perfectly. What an epic coming of age story. The author reimagines the life of Talitha Getty through the eyes of Claire, a nice, sheltered girl, who's life gets turned upside down when she's whisked away to a palace in Morocco owned by tycoon Paul Getty, Jr. and his free-spirited wife Talitha. It's an exciting adventure, one Claire has always dreamed about, until its not. Reality steps in like it always does and Claire sees that things aren't always as glamorous as they seem.
A chance encounter has country Claire leaving her quiet life in the country for first 1960s London and then to Morocco where she meets musicians, celebrities and Talitha and Paul Getty, people who will change her life forever. An engrossing read that keeps you hooked until the end.
Inspired by the short, tragic life of Talitha Getty, this story features a small town English girl who moves to London at the height of the "swinging sixties." Very well researched, authentic historical fiction. I look forward to recommending this book.
I was so excited that Netgalley gave me an ARC of Sister Stardust by Jane Green.
Jane Green is one of my favorite authors of all time and her book Jemima J is in my top 10 favorite books. I have read all of her previous books and really enjoyed them all.
When I received my ARC of Sister Stardust from Netgalley, I couldn’t wait to start reading it. I was sucked in to the story on page one and I didn’t want it to be over when I finished. It is a coming of age tale, overcoming hardships and finding friends and relationships that last a lifetime. It was a lot of fun to go on this journey with Claire and watch her find herself through these pages
This book is completely different from Jane Green’s other work, it was definitely was a labor of love and that shows through on every page. I hope that Jane continues to write more books in this style.
I loved this book. It’s the story of Talitha Getty through the eyes of small town girl Claire.
I was transported back in time to the wild 1960’s as Claire embarks on her adventure in Morocco with famous artists and musicians.
There is also an Sister Stardust Instagram page with picture of the Getty’s.
