Honestly, I read this mostly for the positive nostalgia of G.I. Joe and the negative/bittersweet nostalgia of my 90s teenage comic years. And Liefeld didn't disappoint, with great poses, a few pouches here and there, dramatic entrances, and even a few well drawn feet! That said, the plot is incoherent. There's not nearly enough space to give the parade of guest starts full focus, things happen that aren't fully explained or fitting with anything that came before, and after a while there is a big sense that this story really doesn't matter and was a waste of time all around.

Snake Eyes vs Kirigun, the Grave Master! Back from the grave, Kirigun is hunting for his sword and then off to conquer the world as an offering to the death goddess. But Snake Eyes and the G. I. Joe team is on his trail as is Storm Shadow and Destro. Who will win? Who can stop a legend?

Thanks Netgalley for the opportunity to read this title.

An enemy from a distant past rises, and Snake Eyes ends up an unwilling pawn of a challenge known as the Deadgame. The man from the past wields an ancient weapon that naturally interests Cobra, so soon Storm Shadow and later Destro and the Baroness make an appearance to seek it out. Snake Eyes needs to defeat the rival, keep the weapon away from Cobra, and survive.

The story is pretty good, and it has a quick pace. Once the story gets going, it draws you in. We get glimpses of a distant past along with the present time. For fans of Snake Eyes, we get some more background into the character. The art in the volume is colorful and very good. The art is a good reason to pick this up.

Overall, I liked it For libraries, this may be a good selection, especially if they already collect other G.I. Joe titles.

This is a spoiler free review of the new Snake Eyes: Deadgame trade paperback coming out on 12/7/21

Snake Eyes: Deadgame is a solid graphic novel. Reading this book made me reminisce about watching the 1980’s G.I. Joe cartoon from when I was kid.

I really enjoyed reading a comic book where the main focus is on Snake Eyes. When I watched G.I Joe as a kid I always thought Snake Eyes was such a cool character. Snake Eyes looks awesome, is mysterious, heroic, and fights like a ninja samurai combination. He’s just an awesome hero. So I was really excited to read Snake Eyes: Deadgame an awesome graphic novel about my favorite G.I. Joe.

Snake Eyes: Deadgame gives the readers a bit more background on Snake Eyes. We even get to meet a mysterious woman from his past. We also get another treat in this graphic novel when some familiar faces from G.I Joe and Cobra show up periodically. Every fan of the cartoons and comics will love all the cameos in this graphic novel.

The illustrations in Snake Eyes: Deadgame are beautiful. The action is non stop and the artwork has so much motion and energy that you feel like you are in the heat of battle alongside Snake Eyes.

I recommend this graphic novel to anyone who is a fan of the G.I Joe cartoons and comics from the 1980’s. Perhaps reading this great story will make you want to watch the old cartoons as much as I did after finishing this graphic novel.

Stay awesome and keep reading!

This was my first foray into the GI Joe Universe since the 80s cartoon. It was great getting to experience these characters in a new light and seeing many familiar characters as well. The art style is nice and fun to look at. This is a fully colored comic and the coloring is well done and helps add to the story. The story is action packed and has more detail and cohesiveness than I had expected. We have come a long way in storytelling since the 80s cartoon. I recommend this to people who like action stories and to students who like the current Marvel Cinematic Universe.
