This cookbook can be great for vegan students! The recipes call for common ingredients and are easy to make without breaking the student bank or budget. Most of these recipes are not suitable for dorm room cooking but if you have a kitchen these recipes are great.
Unfortunately my NetGalley access expired before I was able to try out more of Kaminsky’s recipes so I can’t give a fully formed opinion.
Unfortunately, the one recipe I had tried ended up not being to my taste at all. I tried one of her pancake recipes and even though the instructions were quite different from how I learnt most vegan pancake recipes are made, I followed them exactly. The result were pancakes that I couldn’t and didn’t want to eat, they were quite ghastly.
Most recipes in this book are accompanied by pictures which I always like since I’m less inclined to try something if I don’t know what it’s gonna look like.
Vegan cookbooks can be quite daunting for baby vegans (I’m not a beginner vegan) and I think this struck a good chord between being accessible in regards to the recipes’ ingredients and its instructions. Depending on where you live, some of the required ingredients will definitely be harder to come by. I think the cookbook would have benefited from more easy/beginner-level recipes in terms of the kinds of food required.
All in all, this is a semi-solid cookbook for vegans, especially those who already have some vegan cooking experience, and I would have liked to try out more of its recipes, especially because one didn’t turn out the way I would have liked it to.
Thanks to NetGalley and Publisher: The Quarto group, Harvard Common Press,U.S. for this quick and easy recipe book for my reference in the kitchen. My family loved some of the smoothie and noodle recipes in the book. I have a small kitchen and there were all recipes that can be made fast. And they are super healthy.
Amazing cookbook! As a Vegan student myself, I found these recipes very doable. However, I wholeheartedly recommend this to anyone and everyone, non-vegans and non-students included. I am an avid cook, and I liked how these recipes are unique and have their own spin, it's not the same as recipes you could access for free on the internet. I also particularly enjoyed the ingredient glossary and basic how-tos. Even someone like me who enjoys cooking and learning more about it didn't know some of this information. For example, I now know a lot more about how to ensure my sugar is vegan.
Definitely not just for students, nor just for vegans, this excellent cookbook offers a variety of well thought-out and inspiring recipes.
There is an excellent range of options, and the hints and tips given along the way make it accessible at all levels of experience. The photos are gorgeous, and the recipes I've tried so far have been hits!
My thanks to the author, NetGalley, and the publisher for the arc to review.
This is a great recipe book for those trying out this diet and way of life. I really liked the colourful pictures for every dish so you could see how it was meant to look! I wish more cook books did that!
Obviously its a book designed for students and so the food was on the less sophisticated side e.g. burgers, and pasta however for a beginner I think this would be an excellent book.
Thank you for the arc.
A great little book packed full of easy and affordable recipes! Whilst I'm not vegan or a student I found some really great recipes in here that help with healthy eating and doesn't use trillions of ingredients.
I accessed a digital review copy of this book from the publisher.
This book is geared towards the college student/older beginner cook. It starts with a list of basic pantry goods that you should have on hand, especially as a vegan. This is then followed by an ingredient glossary that defines the more uncommon ingredients, their uses, and where to get them or how to make them. After this is a list of supplies and tools that are good to have on hand while in a school environment. Finally, the book tells the reader some of the basic cooking skills they will need, for any dishes, and measurement conversion charts.
The book is divided into breakfast, dips and spreads and sprinkles, snacks, side dishes, noodles, soup, handheld meals, and bowl meals. Some of the dishes have basic ingredients, while others have more specialty vegan ingredients. The preparation seems fairly easy.
I think this is a good book for college students to introduce them to cooking and the variety of ingredients available to vegans.
A great resource for a college student or anyone new to cooking &/or on a budget!
The book is well laid out, easy to use & includes lots of bright pictures.
Some of my favorite things about this cookbook:
- Lots of pictures
- Concise table of contents
- Includes a pantry staple list
- Ingredient glossary (no more wondering or needing to google stuff, it takes the guesswork out!)
- Conversions & Equivalents
- Tells how many servings for each recipe
- Fun notes peppered around
- Economical recipes!!
- Author info
- Index of recipes
I look forward to making more recipes! Yum!
(I was able to preview this book in exchange for my honest review. All opinions are my own.)
This is a nice introduction to vegan cookbook for students. I wish I had found something like this when I was a student but that was a long time ago. I like that the book lists and describes basic ingredients that will later be used in the recipes. The also lists kitchen supplies that will be needed and instructions on some kitchen basics. I think this a great book for students who have limited space and room for cooking. There seems to be a nice variety of recipes.
When I requested this book I was expecting recipes that were tasty , yum to look at and very easy to prepare and the book delivered. The author did a wonderful job of curating recipes that not only speak to the ones with a sweet tooth but to those that prefer savory dishes and spicy. Absolutely enjoyed it and highly recommend it to everyone even though it says student.
I received a complimentary copy from the publisher and all opinions expressed are my own.
Lots of quick and easy vegan recipes with lots of whole foods rather than just relying on expensive meat alternatives!
This was a good vegan cookbook. It had recipes that were easy to understand and prepare in a small space. Even though I am an adult, I still enjoyed using these recipes to make some yummy meals.
I’m not a student but if you want to try some easy to prepare plant based recipes that don’t require fancy equipment, this uses the book for you. Thank you for the opportunity.
I received this book for my honest review.
I'm not a vegan nor a student. This is a good book for people who want to try out some vegan recipes. Most of the recipes are plant based spread across breakfast, lunch, dinner, and snacks.
I'm not a student, but I was in search of good, healthy vegan food to cook for my family. This book is great and the recipes are easy to follow. I recommend it if you are a student or even if you aren't!
I do like reading vegan books. This one is refreshing. I am a no longer student, but I do like to cook simple dishes. This book doesn't have difficult ingredients, everything is easy to make. If you can't cook, this won't be too difficult for you. And also very economic.
This was a great cookbook and I really enjoyed reading through the recipes. I definitely found some that I will be making.
A wonderful cookbook. It is marketed as being for students, but I think it's appropriate for anyone who wants to start eating a vegan diet but wants to do so in an easy, simple way
Very good recipes inside even for those who are not students. There are some easy but also very tasty recipes worth trying.
