A fantastic summer read that I think readers of all ages would thoroughly enjoy. I highly recommend this book, especially if you want something to keep you full wondering what will happen next. Great book overall
While the book was good and the comics were funny, this type of book is one that's been done a few times.
I didn't hate it and would likely recommend it for "bathroom humor" lovers.
Seems promising from the short preview. I will definitely be checking out the full version. I would’ve liked to have seen a bit more, though.
The ARC I received for this seemed to be corrupted and I couldn't see any content on any of the pages. I suppose I'll have to go out and buy this because it seems like a really interesting book!
I was only given a taste of a few pages, but that sampling was all that was needed to leave me enthusiastically desiring more. Joe Pera has done it once again and crafted something that at first glance may seem a little bit odd and dull, but in fact is just about to deliver more comfort for one's heart, mind and spirit than one can possibly expect.
An adorable little comic to leave in your bathroom for guests. It's cute, doesn't require a lot of thought, the art style is cute.
For such a fun title, I was expecting this book to be a funnier and richer but it fell flat for me. I would almost even say a shampoo bottle is more worthy of a bathroom read. Perhaps the full book will be better than this miniscule excerpt
A Bathroom Book for People Not Pooping or Peeing but Using the Bathroom as an Escape by Joe Pera was kind of funny, I guess. Based on the first 10 pages provided for reviewing, it's hard to say if this book is going to be an enjoyable or funny enough read to justify buying when one is in the bathroom for whatever reason they're in there.
It's really hard to rate this book based on 10 pages. Thank you to Net Galley for the digital sample ARC in exchange for an honest review but at this time I don't believe I would recommend it.
This book is absolutely amazing and would be so funny to keep in a bathroom. I love that the message is you are safe in the bathroom but that you can't stay there forever and it will all be alright.
Thank you to netgalley for providing me with an arc for an honest review.
The preview I received looked really good. The art was different but very detailed and I was just starting to get into it when the digital copy I had ended. I don't know if I can recommend this for my library as I don't know what the rest of the story entails. I did enjoy it though and connected with the message, as I have escaped from work meetings by using the bathroom as an excuse. I will probably search this out on my own to read it all the way through.
"A Bathroom Book for People Not Pooping or Peeing but Using the Bathroom as an Escape" by Joe Pera and illustrated by Joe Bennett is a must buy for anyone who enjoys Joe Pera Talks With You. This "extended preview" is a bit short to do a full review but, based on what we got, it seems to be in line with the humor and style of the show. This is gentle comedy that occasionally cuts deep. Knowledge of the show or Joe Pera is not necessary but it definitely helps if you can read it in his voice. If you don't have Adult Swim or HBO Max, I would recommend looking up the quarantine special "Relaxing Old Footage with Joe Pera" to get an idea of what you are in for. The art works with the sparse text to give someone who is using the bathroom as an escape plenty to look at and ponder. For Joe Pera fans and those who like a light chuckle.
*A partial review copy of this book was given by NetGalley in exchange for an honest review.
From the 10 pages I've received, I really enjoyed it. The illustrations were incredible, especially the tiles in the bathroom and that gorgeous lake is still on my mind. It's a cosy read, and it shows how different people use the bathroom as a way to escape - to freshen up, to hide, to motivate themselves.
The review copy ends with an illustration of Lake Ontario which feels so peaceful and calm, especially with the text that seems to give a background of the rest of the story (if there is one, which I'm not sure of).
Despite it being such a short read, I enjoyed it and will read it again for the illustrations and a moment of peace.
Unfortunately, I only received a partial copy of this book so it's hard to give a thorough review. Of the 10 pages, I love the art and the concept. It's a calming read tha, if I was allowed to read in full, I imagine I would enjoy.
It's really difficult to give a review on 10 pages of a book, so that's why I won't be leaving a review on Goodreads or Amazon.
Thank you to NetGalley for priding a partial ARC for review
Simply put; read this book.
'A Bathroom Book for People Not Pooping or Peeing But Using the Bathroom as an Escape' is a delightful and introspective look into social anxiety and the safe haven of escape that the space of a bathroom provides.
The drawings are pleasant on the eyes and the words are thoughtfully placed for a soothing read. I highly recommend this book to anyone who longs for a quite escape away from the chaos and social anxiety.
This was hilarious, and I would love a copy for every bathroom in my house. Super charming, and I completely related.
Joe Pera is an utter delight. I saw him read an original draft of this book over three years ago as part of his live stand-up act and I'm so glad it will be out in the world. Finally someone has recognized the bathroom as the realm of safety and comfort for so many of us anxious souls.
This witty and wry bathroom reader is everything you would expect from observational comedian Joe Pera. For anyone who has seen Pera's stand up or his shows on Adult Swim, this new illustrated guide is exactly the type of dry humor and comments that fans have come to love and expect from the creative mind of Pera. Chuckle-worthy and irreverent, the author and illustrator created the perfect tome for all of us - after all, we've all been there, using the bathroom as an escape. Pera covers a wide range of situations where you might use the bathroom as an escape, each one as spot on and in-your-face as the next. The text is even better if you know Pera's comedy well enough to read this narrative in his voice.
