Meet Me Under the Northern Lights by Emily Kerr
⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️/5

This book was the perfect getaway from the world today. I absolutely loved the story of Lucy, a radio DJ who is down on her luck based on some personal decisions. She ends up taking an open-ended trip to Finland and being transported by the beauty and simplicity. This was candy-sweet, so fun to read, and compelling as well. I paired it with a Finland @goosecreekco Candle because it was perfectly adapted to my reading and made me feel as though I was among the trees and snow the entire time.
I commend Kerr for her fun writing, but also for creating a dialogue wherein we realise that women being blamed for the actions of not only themselves, but men as well is unjust and unfair. I highly recommend this for anyone who wants a sweet, romantic getaway and would love to move somewhere snowy and beautiful.

A good read .When Lucy had some trouble at the radio station where she works she goes to stay with her friends brother in law Tommi who has just set up an adventure park near the arctic circle in Finland..Its a fabulous location with some interesting characters but things get worse for her before she finally works out what really went wrong for her,but will she go back to her old life or has she discovered a better life style especially when she eventually becomes more than friends with Tommi

Pros: the author’s descriptions of the Finland scenery and ****brrrr**** cold were very realistic, felt like I was feeling it right along with Lucy, the female lead. Lucy’s friendship with Skye was nice, even though at the beginning I felt like Lucy was trying to push Skye away.

Cons: I just didn’t bond with Lucy at all. I felt she was immature, had a real problem with alcohol and was oblivious to how her behavior was impacting her future. Why was she so surprised that the public videotaped her drunken bar spree, everyone has a phone these days and earlier in the book she was upset that the security guard didn’t recognize her, you can’t have it both ways, either you’re recognizable or not.

The story dragged a bit as well, it wasn’t a quick read. I’m sure there are many other people who will read this book and find it fantastic, so no disrespect to the author meant at all, I guess it just wasn’t for me.

Thanks to the author, publisher and NetGalley for the opportunity to read and review this book, but my opinions are my own.

Lucy Fairweather is a breakfast show radio presenter at Star FM. Her life is crazy both professionally and personally, her taste for drinking, parties and overall disregard for rules brings her to a lot of problems. The biggest one being the video that just went viral. This video is all bullshit, but does it really matter? No. Her life is turned upside down from it, bringing threats, stalking and a lot of unpleasantness when the other person in the video, her coworker Jonno doesn’t have her back. You see, for him the video brings something good, so why not go with it?

Lucy turns to her friend Skye for help and it just so happens she has an idea, why not go help her brother-in-law in Finland at the Wild Zone near the Artic Circle! This is an outdoor retreat and she can stay there all she wants in return for her help at the place. But this might be another nightmare for her and her problematic nature brings all new problems to tackle. After all you can run but you can’t hide, at least not forever…

I really liked that the main focus of the book wasn’t the romance. Its all about finding oneself and learning from mistakes. Lucy is a complete mess, and as unlikable as they come. She tries, and she has a kind heart but she never expects consequences to her actions. Her way of being brings a lot of problems, one of them being her over-drinking, which is just one of many things she has to tackle to build up a better life!

I really liked how Lucy developed and grew with the book and her new-found self. I found it inspiring and beautiful. She found her strength, her balance and someone that cares for her as much as she does. I loved reading about her adventures changing to better ones, and a new found love for something she dreaded – cold dark Finland.

Another big point for me was how well described the winter and all the Arctic goodness was. It felt like being there, and even tho I live in Finland, I actually learned some new stuff from the north. It’s really well researched and gives the right feel to the book. I also liked that it made it realistic, not overly romantic or fairy-taley but that pure natural magic that only winter can bring.

The end was easy to predict but it definitely didn’t take the enjoyment out of it. This was a page-turner, full of accidents, excitement, new adventures and a lot of friendship. The romance was incredibly cute and well built up. Tommi’s way of being reminded me of what I though of my boyfriend when I met him. His calm demeanour, looking unapproachable without meaning to and in his own world. But on the inside completely mushy and a soft soul. So, in my eyes it described the first impression of a Finnish person pretty well, in general of course- obv everyone is different – but it is more common than not to be like Tommi.

It also speaks about some tough subjects like misogyny, hate crime, slut-shaming, online-hate, internet trolls being their best selfs and the fact that behind an online figure there’s a real human being! It was touching, stressful and all too real!

Really enjoyed this new book from a new to me author Emily Kerr. Full of fun, laughs, groans, 'oh no's!!' and reality checks.
Lucy Fairweather hosts the prime slot of the morning show on the local radio station in Sheffield. When a video from a night out with the radio team goes viral her life implodes, where can she escape those online trolls!?
I very much appreciated reading about these great characters, and life in Sheffield and Finland!
No spoilers here but this is a great read and well worth picking up! Totally recommended.

This was a beautifully written book which transported me to Finland. The plot was good and the characters very believable. More please!

This is such a hard book for me to review because it falls into a genre that I don’t read a lot of but I’m really wanting to spread my reading wings from beyond the thriller/historical fiction/fantasy bubble that I shelter myself in.

So, with that in mind I honestly didn’t love this book, but I didn’t dislike it either, it was all just a bit “hmmmm okay” so I’ve finished that one.

I’m not quite sure what it was, but something didn’t quite gel for me. I absolutely loved the premise of this one. A romance read set in the Arctic Circle, under the Northern Lights in Finland. I was so looking forward to escaping to a winter wonderland, and I must admit, the setting and scenery was one thing I did love about the book.

Unfortunately, I wasn’t a huge fan of the characters, and it’s not because they were unlikeable, I’m all for dysfunctional crazy characters but something was keeping me from actually caring about what happened to our heroine Lucy.

I think maybe mistakenly I’d gone into this one thinking it was a romance read when technically it didn’t really feel like it had that vibe.

The storyline itself was a good one. When Lucy a pretty famous breakfast radio announcer is the victim of an online smear campaign and the unwarranted receiver of horrendous online abuse from trolls, she escapes to Finland and helps out at a remote lodge amidst a breathtakingly beautiful snow setting. It certainly started off strong but then as the storyline seemed to just meander along without anything really happening, I think that’s where my attention was lost, and I just stopped caring.

I’m still grateful to both NetGalley and Harper Collins UK for the opportunity to read and review this one, and although I wasn’t a huge fan, I know a lot of other readers loved it. I think I was looking for a romance read, and this just wasn’t quite it for me.

Well this is my first book that I have read by Emily Kerr and it won't be the last. I loved it. I loved Lucy and all her flaws and I was rooting for her from the start. She is far from perfect but she is relatable and I was hoping throughout that she would find herself on the right track.
The story is about Lucy who is a breakfast radio presenter who get's a bit carried away with the media lifestyle until one day a video goes viral and then this starts a chain of events where she becomes the villain and it is time for her to make a change in her life.
Lucy has a great support network and her friend decides the best place for Lucy would be with her brother-in-law in Finland at the Arctic Circle. This is not the life that she is used to and is very naive when she gets there about how life will be there. However, you can see that Lucy's lifestyle is starting to transform, she makes amazing friends along the way and you can see that Lucy is finally finding herself and making a special life in Finland.
You are transported to Lucy's life and I so enjoyed this book, you have to give it a go, you won't be disappointed at all.

Meet me Under the Northern Lights is the story of Lucy Fairweather and her fall from grace and subsequent journey of self discovery. After being caught in a compromising situation which has an immediate impact on her job, Lucy goes to Finland for a break from the ugly fallout. Here she meets Tommi, who helps her on this journey of self discovery and so much more along the way.

This was an enjoyable read which gave a really vivid feeling of being in the snowy environs of Finland and parts of it had me laughing out loud. I really enjoyed Lucy's sense of humour and my heart went out to her for the situation she was in and the hate she had to put up with; something that can be all too true unfortunately. The secondary characters were great and I felt genuine dislike for a couple of them which goes to show how well crafted they were.

Thanks to One More Chapter for providing an ARC for review.

My first attraction to this book was the setting of the Northern lights and Kerr writes the location beautifully. I really felt that I had been transported into the snowy, dark landscape of Finland and I found myself learning a lot about the Finnish way of life.

The book started off at a great pace but my focus began to dwindle when Lucy arrives in Finland and there could have been more action/development here as the storyline did move fairly slowly. Similarly, the blossoming romance between Lucy and Tommi, which was of course predictable from the start, took a long time to develop and was a little too slow for me.

I didn't find the character of Lucy likeable at all and was indifferent to her achieving a happy ending. I had hoped that we would see a bigger transformation in her by the end and that she would have outgrown her irresponsible and childish ways though this wasn't really noticeable.

I think the hate campaign waged against Lucy by trolls and social media was overplayed - I couldn't quite believe that the public would take that much of a stand against her over the video & supposed accusations. Similarly, the character of Mike was questionable - I think he became a stereotypical feminist and his actions/speech made him seem unreal. His reasons for wanting to target Lucy so much didn't sit right.

I think that the issue of alcoholism was skipped over fairly briefly and this could have been looked at in more detail, especially given the link to alcohol with Lucy's' father.

Thank you to the Publisher and Netgalley for the ARC.

Loved reading this book. A lovely winter read you read with a smile on your face.

Lucy is a radio presenter who is caught up in bad video footage and is asked to leave her job. Her friend Skye’s husband is Finnish and they decide that Lucy should hide out in his brothers winter wonderland. Loved reading about all the different things she learned in Finland and the people she met. 4.5 stars.

Thank you to Netgalley and the publishers for a copy.

📻 When radio host Lucy Fairweather gets suspended after her drunken exploits are manipulated in a video that goes viral, her friend Skye offers her a trip to Finland to help her brother in law Tommi with his new resort Wild Zone.

❤️ I liked:
❄️ The setting. Snow, log cabins, huskies, northern lights... is there anything more perfect in the lead up to Christmas? I confess Northern Europe has been on my To-Go list for a long time now, and this book made me want to go there even more!
👭 Friendship. Skye may be too good to be true, but she is always there for Lucy, especially when she is vulnerable and needs it the most.
💌 Not just romance. This book is not all about love and friendship, no. The author touches on some serious topics, like sexism, mental health and addiction.

🤔 I wasn't sure about:
The characters. Don't get me wrong, all the characters are likeable, but I think they are stereotyped. Skye is the perfect best friend, Tom is the handsome lone-wolf, Lucy's producer is mean and sexist. I just think they are all a bit one-dimensional.

⭐⭐⭐ 3/5 A cosy and easy to read wintery romance. One word of warning, don't read it with your phone or laptop too close to you: this book can cause an uncontrollable need to buy a flight to Finland! As always, thank you #netgalley and #onemorechapterhc.

I really enjoyed this book! It was a little more serious than I anticipated, but I was grateful to follow the heroine’s journey. It was a complete arc, which I appreciated. She grew exponentially.

My thanks Netgalley and the publishers for my copy of Meet Me Under the Northern Lights. This is beautifully written, atmospheric novel, I could almost feel myself in Finland.
I was put off by Lucy's character and found her very annoying at the outset as she really didn't do anything to help herself but as the story progressed it became obvious what has shaped her. The other characters were great and very relateable.
Some reviewers have said that they found the story hilarious but this obviously passed me by as I found it quite stressful seeing how Lucy was suffering but of course it all works out for the best in the end.

Lucy is a successful breakfast radio presenter but when a leaked edited video goes viral and she is public enemy number 1 and the public hate her and she gets death threats she needs to find somewhere to get away from it all.

A friend recommends a place called Wild Thing in Finland which is her brother in law’s new business which is due to open soon. Here she can get away from technology and press intrusion and help out with opening of the business. It is a place where you can learn survival techniques for the climate, dog sledding, and just time out from life and maybe even catch the Northern Lights.

At first Lucy is more of a hindrance than a help and falls out with Tommi the owner but soon with the help of the other staff manages to find her place in the business.

All is going fine until her radio show bosses arrive, will Lucy clear her name and find love? You will have to read it to see.

This book has many similarities to The Christmas Escape by Sarah Morgan which I have just read. But for me, this is even better. I enjoyed Lucy's backstory and found her chaotic, happy-go-lucky lifestyle to hide her pain totally believable. For me the twist was obvious. Did I care? Absolutely not. I loved watching Lucy work it out for herself and I loved watching her relationship with Tommi. I hope there will be a sequel as I'd love to know what happens next.

I love a good story of self-discovery!

This had more than the romcom type cover leads the reader to believe. It was a good read, one that made me want to visit Finland and one that offered more than just a simple romance.

I felt like I wanted more from the book in the end, but overall I really did enjoy this book.

This was such a good winter read (and kinda made me want to travel to Finland?). Meet Me Under the Northern Lights follows Lucy, a morning show radio host who is placed on a break after a video of her during a night out goes viral. After the video goes viral, she starts trending and gets a ton of negative backlash. As a way to get away from it all, she takes up her coworker's offer to travel to Finland where her brother-in-law lives where Lucy struggles to adapt to her new environment.

Going into this book, I thought it was going to be more of a romance novel, but in the end, it seemed more like you were following Lucy on a self-discovery journey which still made for a good read. The only real issue I had was that I had a hard time liking Lucy's character when I started but I grew to like her more towards the end. I really enjoyed most of the characters and the setting of the book.

Thank you to NetGalley, Harper Collins UK, and One More Chapter for a copy of this e-book in exchange for an honest review.

A delightful light hearted, heart warming novel. Lucy leaves the UK for Artic wonderlands after she is put on leave from her role as a radio presenter. A whole new life opens up for her, but how will it work out for her? Will she remain with her Finnish friends or return to the UK? Meanwhile loose yourself in the snow clad scenery and activities. A really enjoyable book.
