I loved this fun supernatural romance! Romy takes a DNA test on a whim, and when it comes back she finds out she has a half-sister. She eventually meets her entire family, and is in disbelief when she’s told her father and the recipes of the family are witches. To make matters more awkward, her father assigns Trace to her magic tutor. Trace and Romy met by accident, and they definitely are attracted to one another. Unfortunately, Trace is kind of the adopted son of the family, and in his mind Romy is off-limits.

The characters were fun and quirky, and the plot was creative. I hope this isn’t a standalone book, I’d love to read another book about this family!

Thanks to the publisher and NetGalley I received a complimentary copy of this book. Opinions expressed in this review are completely my own.

I really enjoyed this book. Tony was a plucky heroine and I’m glad that she didn’t let Trace’s attitude affect her. He need to be smack a couple of times upside the head but eventually he figured out what was good for him. I’m hoping Felise and Magan get their own books.

After the death of her mother, Romy Larson is alone in the world with the exception of her two friends,Hannah and Kesha. With their encouragement she takes a DNA test and suddenly finds out she has an entire family out there consisting of a father, stepmum, two sisters and assorted grandparents, aunts, uncles and cousins…. oh and for the bonus ball she’s also a witch! Once she gets over the disbelief she finds the downside of having magic is she has to pass a WED exam – Witch Equivalency Diploma within a year or lose her newly discovered powers for ever. Her “foster brother” Trace Holcombe reluctantly takes on the task of tutoring her but with a mutual attraction how long can they keep their hands off each other?

I really enjoyed this book which is the first one of Kelly Jamieson’s that I’ve read. The paranormal aspect, in my opinion, really doesn’t play a major part in the story except as a reason for Romy and Trace to meet up for her magic lessons. It could just have easily been he was meeting her to tutor her in a foreign language although then we’d have missed out on the goldfish episode which had me laughing as I read. This story is more about family and being true to yourself and and realising you do deserve to be happy. The chemistry between the hero and heroine is apparent and despite the instant attraction has a bit of a slow build up to the eventual steamy scenes when they do get together. They are friends before they become lovers. I loved all the secondary characters especially the immediate Candler family. I know this book is billed as a stand-alone but I would love to hear more about Felise and Magan, Romy’s sisters, especially if they form their triad.

I've read a number of books by Kelly Jamieson, most of which have been her hockey romances, so I was really excited to read her newest book, Big Witch Energy. I've always enjoyed paranormal romances so Big Witch Energy was right up my alley. I loved the characters in the book, both main and side, so I'm really hoping that she writes more books in this series, possibly about the main character, Romy's sisters as the main characters. Kelly set it up in the book that the three sisters have a sort of Charmed ones, power of three thing going on so I think there could be some awesome plots from that.
When Romy Larson had too much to drink one night and decided to sign up for the DNA test, Who's Your Daddy, she wasn't sure what to expect. So when she gets her results back that she has a half sister she's simultaneously exited and nervous to meet a side of the family that she never knew before. But when her new dad drops the bomb the he, his wife and daughters, and by extension she, is a witch she isn't sure what type of crazy she's gotten herself into.
Trace Holcomb wants nothing to do with being a witch. Being a witch has done nothing for him, it wasn't able to bring back his parents and brother, so why should he bother following in the footsteps of his family to be the head witch. But when his foster/surrogate father asks him to train his newly discovered daughter magic he reluctantly agrees. What Trace isn't expecting is that the daughter that he will be teaching is his one night stand from a few nights ago... That won't make any of this complicated at all...
Neither Romy or Trace wanted more from their one night together, but when they're thrown together for Romy to learn how to be a witch neither of them are expecting feelings to grow. Romy doesn't think she's ready for a real relationship and Trace doesn't want to lose anyone else in his life so he doesn't want anything more. What will this two do when their feelings turn into something more?

Full confession: this is the first book I’ve ever read by this author. I have several bookish friends that love her stories, but I’d never really taken the plunge. I’ve been in a bit of a paranormal mood lately, so when I saw she was dipping her toes into the paranormal romance pool, I decided now was the time to give one of her books a try. And I can honestly say I get what all the fuss is about now.

At first glance of the blurb, it sounds like this story is going to be a delightful rom-com. But there’s so much more to Romy and Trace’s story. There are some fun, funny, and witty moments, don’t get me wrong. And, of course, the paranormal twist. But at its heart, it’s about family (your biological and your chosen), finding yourself, and what it means to put others before yourself. It’s also about standing up for what’s right and bucking the system because what’s always been done isn’t what should continue to be done. If I had to sum up the book in one word, I’d choose heartwarming.

Romy and Trace have chemistry in spades. But they are both still searching for who they are without a family to help define them. The ups and downs along the road to finally realizing who they are and what purpose they serve make this story more than a delightful rom-com. It gives it heart and depth you might not expect from a paranormal romance, either. If you’re a PNR fan, I challenge you to give Romy and Trace a chance. I don’t think you’ll be disappointed at all. I know I wasn’t!

NICUnurse’s Rating: I give Big Witch Energy by Kelly Jamieson 5 out of 5 stars!

I have read a few of Kelly Jamieson books, but this is the first paranormal romance I have seen from her.

After the death of her mother, Romy takes a DNA test and discovers her father and a number of other relatives. She also finds out she is a witch and Trace, the man she spent a fun night with, has been taken care of by her family. He is also tasked with teaching her the basics of magic. The mutual attraction between them only grows the more time they spend together.

It was fun to follow Romy through her crazy introduction to a whole side of her family and magic. There is humor, nice world building, and a sweet romance. PNR isn't usually my genre, but Big Witch Energy was entertaining and a great read.

After her mother passed away Romy decided to search for the birth father she knows nothing about. She didn’t hold out much hope that she would find him, but the surprises keep coming when she finds out that not only did she find him, but that she has inherited the family’s magical powers as well.

A case of mistaken identity brings Romy into Trace’s life, but they soon find out they are tied together in a way they never expected. Although not related by blood circumstances has them sharing the same family but it is when he needs to help her harness her powers that the complications really begin

Their romance was sweet and sexy however with both Romy and Trace dealing with emotional turmoil when it comes to their families, they definitely have some obstacles to overcome.

What a fun concept! When I heard that one of my favorite romance authors was branching out into paranormal romance, I couldn't wait to get my hands on it, and I was not disappointed. I love the premise - and as someone who found her own father after I was all grown up, Romy was easy to connect with. The shock of finding a family, the nervousness of that first meeting, the getting to know each other - it all brought back memories. Well, other than the witch thing, but that would've been cool too. The romance here is a bit of a slow burn, and Trace made me a little crazy with his "I don't do relationships" thing, but the reason behind it made it at least understandable even when I wanted to give him a good shake. Of course, there's some angst, but for the most part, this is a fun, engaging read with some terrific characters. I liked some of the secondary characters as much, if not more than the romantic couple. The story is entertaining, sexy, and full of the wit and humor I expect from Kelly Jamieson.

I enjoyed this story so very much. It's sweetly romantic, funny, and witchy, all in proper measures. Our heroine is brilliant but vulnerable, and watching her blossom through the book is cheer-worthy. Down with the patriarchy comes to mind. Our hero is all the things that make a romance story great, wounded, carrying guilt, but so drawn to the heroine. Big Witch Energy is about being open to new things in your life, recognizing the good you have in the now, and most importantly, family is everything. There were so many incredible stories screaming to be told among the characters we met. I do hope Kelly is going to venture into the PNR world to write them for us. For now, I can say Big Witch Energy is a fun, joyful read, and I can highly recommend it.

This was a little bit different of a book from Ms. Jamieson, but I enjoyed it. Trace and Romy had a lot of chemistry and an instant connection, but some unexpected news came between them. As they were working together, he was teaching her about being a witch, they grew closer and it became impossible to ignore or deny it.
They both had issues; he felt guilt and she never believed in her abilities because of the way she was raised, to overcome. I really enjoyed the slow burn, flirty aspect of this book. The intimate scenes were great and their banter was hilarious. I like how they each brought out the best in the other. I can’t wait to see what happens next with her sisters and friends.
I received an ARC in exchange for an honest, voluntary review.

This story is less about magic than it is relationships between Remy and Trace, Romy and her family and Trace and his adoptive family. The magic is more “Bewitched” in nature…a hand wave here or there, than “Charmed”, weaving and learning spells. This is neither good nor bad, but the book is less magic driven than you might expect from the title and the blurb. But it was a fun book and had some interesting characters. It’s definitely a departure from previous Kelly Jamieson books that I’ve read, which featured meatier stories and more complex characters. It was a quicker, more lighthearted read, which I enjoyed, but might not stick with me as long as other books might. 3.5 stars

A bit of comedy blended with some light angst a touch of self-discovery,
family (lot's of family), and a whole lot of sweet

Felt a bit like a cozy read - All the fun and lots of feels

Romy was a blast. She had this attitude of just rolling with whatever the world tossed at her and it tossed an awful lot in the girl's direction. Trace was truly a sweetie under all that fake bravado was a lot of hurts.
Both he and Romy had lost their respective families. Each was still floundering trying to find their path. IMO Trace had the harder time.
I think the Goddess knew what she was doing when she put them in each other's paths.
Together they found a way to heal.

I will be following this series

This was a different read than I am used to by this author but I was intrigued by the blurb and because she writes good stories. This was fun, refreshing, cute, sweet, and full of chemistry and mayhems. Trace and Romy have explosive chemistry, and it's not just because of her misfiring her magic. While he has some issues to get through, the relationship grows and I loved the entire family and side characters.

"The greatest magic of all is love."

This was my first Kelly Jamieson book and I absolutely loved everything about it. Trace and Romy are perfection. I adored their meet cute and everything that follows. This story held my attention and I wish I could have put life on hold to read it in one sitting because I couldn't stop when I was able to sit and read. I would definitely call this a slow burn (to me those are the best) with lots and lots of feels. Trace and his "trying to do the right thing" mentality had me loving him even more and Romy proves to be one fierce woman.

If you love funny and witchy stories then this one is definitely for you.

We meet Romy after her mother died and she decides to look for her father, which she didn't know anything about her whole life. That's when the Candler Clan enters and decides to share their big secret with Romy, which does not go over well.

Big Witch Energy was a nice read, I enjoyed the characters, especially Felise and Magan. We don't get to know them too deeply, which I'm a little sad about.
The main part of the book is the love story with family and personal drama in between.

If you want a nice read with a little magic in it, this book is definitely for you. Just don't expect an elaborate magic system.

Really enjoyed this book!
I’ve never read this author before but I’ll be looking into her back list.
A wonderful story about family, made and found, learning you are good enough, you are worthy of love and making the decisions to change your life for the better.
It’s also a steamy read! 👍

Looking forward to stories about her sisters.

Whoa this book was a super fun breath of fresh air! I LOVED how unique the witchy word was and how witches kind of live parallel to the non-witch world.

The story Follows Romy who finds out she is a watch as an adult and via some DNA testing finds her father and his witch family. This revelation brings her a whole new world of people, culture, community, and goals. Her father asks Trace his longtime family friend and quasi adopted son to train Romy.

The meet cute is epic because it's a total case of mistaken identity and leads to some mega feelings and some mega secret keeping once they discover who they really are to each other! I was a super fan of this big family the big witch energy and the slow burn super steamy romance.

Highly recommend this book to any fan of fun romance!

Big Witch Energy is such a fun, cute satisfying read. I really really loved this one. The Chandler family are a delight. Romy is perfect. I love as she discovers who/what she is Romy is questioning everything. It is fun to see Romy grow with Trace's guidance along side her new found family. Trace you feel his pain for everything he gone through as a teen. You feel that pull between Trace and Romy from the very beginning. I love how Romy is willing to do whatever it takes to help Trace. This is a sweet, laugh out loud read with that witchy twist that you will just fall in love with. I really hope there will be more books like this to come. I could not put this one down. Title: Big Witch Energy
Author: Kelly Jamieson
Publication date: August 5th, 2021

Summary: Life's a witch, and then you fly...

Romy Larson

The tequila made me do it—throw caution to the wind to take a DNA test. Now I know why “who’s your daddy” is a dangerous question. Dad’s a witch, with a whole magical family I knew nothing about.

Discovering I have magic isn’t the only shock (though it explains a lot). There’s a familiar face among the noisy, joyful Candler clan. A fostered son named Trace—the only other time in my play-it-safe life I did something crazy. A night of madcap fun and sizzling kisses.

Trace Holcomb

For years, I’ve been trying in vain to find a spell to bring my family back after they died. I’ve given up on magic. What good is it if I can’t do the one thing I want so much?

I mistook Romy for my blind date, and it was the best mistake I ever made. Or maybe it’s the worst. When the other shoe—more like the hammer—drops, I learn she’s part of the Candler family, who opened their big hearts to me when my family died.

Now it’s up to me to run Romy through a crash course in remedial magic before she loses it forever. That’s the last thing I want to do. As the smoke clears from her first disastrous spells, something else becomes clearer. Our attraction wasn’t a fluke. And she could be the key to making my impossible dream come true…

Review: I am happy that this is the first book I've read by Kelly Jamieson because I am absolutely obsessed. I literally had to force myself to go to sleep. I love Romy and Trace together. I love how understanding Trace is and patient. I love the Candler family honestly if this turns into a series with the whole family I will absolutely read every single book. This family is so loving and supportive. The magic is so enthralling to me. The romance was almost not even important to the story because it was rich in every other way but I'm happy it all played out as it did.

I loved the concept of this story. Romy recently lost her mom and only family member. Feeling alone and wanting to see if she can find her father who she never met, she takes a DNA test. When the DNA results come up with a possible family member, she soon learns there is a whole new world out there that she never knew of. Which is what intrigued me about this book. I enjoyed Romy and her discovery and learning of how to be a witch. This also has some great side characters from her two best friends to her new witch family. I even like the hero, Trace. For me, I did struggle with his "I don't do relationship" attitude. I know there is always a deeper reason when author create hero's like this and sometimes I can get past it and some times I can't. This happens to be one of those time I wish he didn't use that as an excuse to keep Romy at a distance. Overall, it was still a fun read.
