Not bad :) very excited to read the whole thing. Marrisa Meyer made the Lunar Choronical universe, and thus I love everything she writes. I love rumplestilksin, so reading a retelling is #goals lol.
I appreciate the opportunity to read the first ten chapters of Marisa Meyer's 'Gilded,' a Rumpelstiltskin retelling set in Germany. In these establishing chapters, Meyer draws from elements of Germanic and Norse folklore, including the Erlking and Pusch-Grohla, the "shrub granny." These intro pages have definitely whet my appetite for this Book #1 in the Gilded series, with Book #2, 'Cursed' due to publish in November 2022.
[Thanks to Macmillan Children's Publishing Group, Feiwel & Friends and NetGalley for an opportunity to read an advanced reader copy of this book.]
This was a nice sampler of the book. I look forward to reading the entire book as Marissa Meyer is one of my favorite authors.
Fans of Rumpelstiltskin will enjoy this YA retelling by Marissa. It's high fantasy, fairy tale, romance (sigh, Gild and Serilda)- note, the beginning starts off slow but picks up.
Wow... I was not expecting much from this book sample, but I was floored and now I immediately want to read the whole book. I guess that's what sneak peeks are all about...
This little snippet was enough to make me get this book when it came out. I'm always down to read a fairytale retelling and I've never read a version of Rumpelstiltskin like this. I was absorbed from the first page and was sad to turn to the last page. Immediately pre-ordered.
I’ve never been disappointed in a book by Marissa Meyer. I was so excited for this Rumplestiltskin-inspired book as Rumplestiltskin is fascinating to me and there never seems to be many retelling of that particular fairytale. Even after receiving the eARC, I purchased this book in physical form when it was released. Wonderful book by a consistently-successful author.
This is a unique take on Rumplestiltskin and combined with Marissa Meyer's retelling skills, this book is a great achievement!!!! It is amazing how the author is able to combine a lot of interesting information from various stories and make it into a masterpiece!
I was a little hesitant with this book after the last Marissa Meyer book I read (instant karma). But I have to say this sampler made me pre-order the book. Marissa Meyer is so good at writing young adult fantasy. I like her main character Cirilda. She is cursed by a god and tells outlandish stories that usually get her in trouble. The writing style is just what I like. She is descriptive without being over whelming I can’t wait to finish this book. 8/10 would recommend. It’s only 8 because I haven’t finished reading it.
I will forever read anything Marissa Meyer writes!!!!!!!
Gilded is no exception.
Ultimately this ended up being a much darker read than I thought it was going to be.
I quickly fell in love with it—though I do need the sequel urgently!
So excited for this most recent Marissa Meyer book! This dark retelling of the Rumplestiltskin didn't disappoint. The cover is beautiful and I know many readers will pick it up based on the cover alone. I look forward to the sequel!
This is a magical and enchanting retelling of the story of Rumpelstiltskin and has all the elements of the Grimm original. compelling twist of the original. Thank you netgalley and the publisher for an e-arc in exchange for a review.
Ahh! Give me more now!!! I am completely enthralled by this novel! Meyer has always been an author that I am immediately drawn to, but I was over the moon excited to hear about a Rumplestilskin retelling.
GILDED did not disappoint. From the onset, the story pulled me in. Serilda was such a relatable character. Her wild tales were not only enjoyable but informative - each tale weaving another piece of the larger story. The ferocity of Serilda's love for her family and friends, and her desire to do the right thing was a key part of what kept me coming back to this book. Gild was a character that I loved instantly. His precociousness, paired with his desire to help Serilda made him both infuriating and utterly adorable.
I absolutely adore the story within a story style of writing. Not only did this novel deliver on that love, but the writing itself was fantastic. Beautifully haunting, well-paced, and twisty, it had everything you've come to expect from Marissa Meyer, yet darker and deeper than ever before.
I highly recommend this novel to any fairy tale lovers, regardless of if you think you've heard the story before -- trust me, you haven't!
This is such an amazing book. It grabs you from the start and it ends with you begging for more. I cannot wait for the second book.
Discovering who Gild is, and seeing this fairytale twisted is perfect.
I love Marissa Meyer, so any novel she writes is highly likely to make my top ten lists. Gilded was a play on the Rumpelstiltskin’s fairy tale (a genre Meyer excels at). Even though I didn’t think I would be interested in the novel because I’m not a huge Rumpelstiltskin fan, the snippet was enough to make me completely interested and want to read this book right away!
The idea of a retelling of Rumpelstilskin was what drew me to this book. I didn’t expect to like it as much as I did, but here we are.
So far, I’ve read only the sample from netgalley, but I’ve immediately bought the full book. Serilda is a great main character—strong, funny, and flawed enough to keep me reading through the remaining 300 pages.
Not what I was expecting. I like this author but this snip it was just a marketing campaign and was ultimately disappointing.
I am absolutely obsessed! I cannot wait to read the rest! This is going to be a fantastic read. I adore Marissa Meyer’s writing so much.
Wonderful taste as a sample of a much larger delicacy. A full review will be listed with the full book's entry on NetGalley .
Marissa is the master of fairy tale retellings! I can’t wait to read the full book. This sampler was just enough to get us excited and keep us wanting more.
