What a terrific romantic suspense!
A suspenseful mystery with steamy moments.
Emmy is in the witness protection program and her location has been comprised several times. Who can she trust?
Definitely a fun read I highly recommend.

If there is a Donna Grant cowboy romantic suspense to be had, I will be having it. More than once. She is one of my favorite authors for a very good reason: she writes edge-of-your-seat suspense that mixes just so with a blossoming love. In this one, Emmy finds herself in need of a safe place to hide from the men looking to silence her before a trial where she's set to testify, and that safe place is provided by Dwight, a trusted friend of her handler. The attraction hits hard and fast, but that doesn't mean all is well—the author takes great care to make sure that Emmy and Dwight get to know one and understand one another, and reading it felt both personal and exciting. There's a memorable scene or two with Dwight's sister, inescapable danger, some daredevil moves, and the goodest of good boys, Sam, and all that added to the HEA means an engaging romance that I would love to talk to someone, anyone about.

The second of my bonus reads accompanied Home for a Cowboy Christmas (two book cowboys—my life has reached its pinnacle), and it was short but sweet and satisfying. A stranded city girl is rescued from a blizzard by a true-blue cowboy and their opposites attract from the get-go. A little forced proximity and only one bed make this one move quickly but it's Christmassy and feel good and a neat little extra after the action-packed main novel.

Great story! Lots of suspense, danger and chemistry! Not just a holiday read. Interesting characters with just enough backstory to help you understand them and become engaged in their story.

I wish I could say I loved this book, but unfortunately, it didn't work for me for several reasons...

1. The beauty of the heroine is literally all anyone can talk about it. I'm not kidding, this woman must be a goddess made into flesh, the way they talk about her. The hero says she is beautiful, his sister says she is "possibly the most beautiful woman to walk this Earth", and after a while I just started to roll my eyes. Okay, she is beautiful, let's move on now? It was so excessive.
2. The story had great pacing inthe beginning, but then all of a sudden there was time jump, weeks had passed that the author told us about but we never really got to experience, and the two MCs are jumping in to bed together. We didn't get to see them fall in love, because all that time they were bonding was glossed over. So when they had sex, there was no emotional connection that I could feel from them.
3. This girl is in hiding, yet there are ranch hands on the property that see her whenever she leaves the house. How does this make sense? You're telling me all those folks are trustworthy, not one blabbermouth in the bunch? In theory it seemed safe, but it felt weird to me. Didn't make sense to hide her in a place where she was clearly visible to the locals.

Overall, not great but not terrible. Just okay. Had great potential, but the time jump and the excessive beauty comments grated on my nerves.

HOME FOR A COWBOY CHRISTMAS – Donna Grant

St. Martin’s Paperbacks

ISBN: 978-1-250-82026-6

November 2021

Contemporary Romance

Riverlands Ranch, Montana – Present Day

Emmy Garrett is under the protection of the U.S. Marshals program after witnessing a crime by a mob boss. However, after her safe house is breached and Emmy is nearly killed, her handler realizes that there is a leak. She is whisked away to parts unknown where the person in charge of her hopes she will be safe. Emmy is driven to a remote Montana ranch owned by Dwight Reynolds, himself a former FBI and Homeland Security agent. Dwight will protect Emmy from any danger at all costs, but will he be able to protect her from losing her heart to him?

Dwight has lived a solitary life on his ranch the past few years. Living on a remote ranch isn’t easy for a woman, but Emmy seems to fit in well, even if she can’t venture outside much. He is repaying an old friend as a favor to protect her. They know that whoever is after Emmy will eventually find her, but until then, Dwight will make her feel safe again. Because it is just the two of them, it’s inevitable that an attraction develops between them. Emmy feels like her life has an expiration date because she will never be safe until the bad guy is behind bars, so why not live life to the fullest by spending her nights in Dwight’s arms?

As HOME FOR A COWBOY CHRISTMAS opens, Emmy is with her U.S. Marshal protector as they are nearing Dwight’s ranch. Readers will feel the palpable fear enveloping her. She has a target on her that she may not be able to stop unless she lives long enough to testify and put the criminal behind bars. Dwight doesn’t know much about Emmy’s case, just that she is in danger and that the bounty hunter hired by the bad guy will most likely find her. Emmy is predictably jumpy, so it takes a few days before she begins to trust him.

While the threat of the bounty hunter finding Emmy hangs over them for most of HOME FOR A COWBOY CHRISTMAS, this tale centers around the burgeoning relationship she starts to have with Dwight. She is an attractive woman and he’s a virile, handsome man. It’s only a matter of time before desire creeps into their friendship. Emmy will spend several weeks with Dwight, and with his help, transform his home into a Christmas wonderland. Neither had been looking forward to the holiday, but now they have something to hold onto. Soon, they are making love and falling for each other. But can it last, knowing she must return to Denver and face the man who wants her dead? What about her feelings for Dwight…and his for her?

Readers suspect that it’s only a matter of time before the bounty hunter finds Emmy. Will Dwight uphold his promise to protect her? Their affair is sizzling hot and magical, as if they’ve been waiting a lifetime for each other. Will they get a chance for a happily-ever-after? An engaging and enjoyable tale, be sure to not miss the romance and suspense in HOME FOR A COWBOY CHRISTMAS.

This book was amazing! The sparks fly in this book from danger and romance!
Emma is in witness protection after witnessing a crime by a mob boss.
She is taken to a ranch in Montana where she thinks she is safe until an assassin the mob hires to find her gets too close. Dwight owns the ranch Emma is staying at and he is determined to keep her safe.
The time spent on the ranch gives Emma and Dwight a chance to get to know each other. The chemistry between these two is amazing!

it took me a while to get into this book. I think part of that was because even though Emmy was hiding from a mobster, the suspense wasn't there for most of the book. It was more about the relationship between Emmy and Dwight than the actual plot so the pacing was too slow for me. However, the relationship between Dwight and Emmy was enough to make me keep reading even though it took me longer than normal to get through a book of this length.

I've been on a bit of a reading slump lately with a lot of mediocre books, but this book was just what I needed to pick things back up! I'll admit, I stayed up until 3 a.m. to finish the final 6 chapters when things started really getting suspenseful, so that qualifies as a great book in my mind!

Emmy is in witness protection, but the mob boss she was set to testify against found her and almost had her killed. Luckily, her handler arrived just in time to save her life. Unfortunately, it means they have to go on the run and find a safe place for Emmy. She lands on Dwight's doorstep since her handler is friends with Dwight. Dwight isn't just any ordinary rancher though. He's ex-military, former FBI and Homeland Security. So he's got what it takes to protect someone, although being up against the mob won't be as easy as he hopes.

This was almost one of those 'love at first sight' books. I mean they don't come right out and say it, but it's obvious the attraction is at nuclear levels early on. And the 'I love you' comes from Dwight in the middle of the book. It's odd to read a book where the Hero is the one professing his love long before the heroine does. I found that refreshing, although a bit premature. But they did spend their days in close quarters, so I suppose it's not completely unrealistic to fall in love that quickly with a stranger. As Emmy noted though, he was her soulmate, so it was destined to be.

Like I said, I stayed up way too late to finish this book, but it's just because the suspense had me on the edge of my seat, er, bed. I did think it all wrapped up a little too neatly in the end. I would have liked to see more of a 'showdown' or some more action when the inevitable happens. Instead, it ends as quickly as it began almost, so the buildup was a bit of a letdown.

The epilogue isn't that far into the future, just a few weeks, so I feel like we really didn't get to see Emmy & Dwight as a normal couple in public. I wish the author had given us that since this doesn't appear to be a series where we'd see them a year down the road in the next book.

Overall, a great romantic suspense that will keep you engaged, invested, and swooning over just how adorable the H/h were.

Emmy was a witness to a crime and entered witness protection to keep her safe until she can testify. She doesn’t trust many people right now, but she knows Dalton, her handler, will keep her safe. When she arrives in the middle of nowhere, she doesn’t expect the man that greets them to be so amazing.

Dwight knows that Dalton wouldn’t have come to him if he wasn’t desperate. A brief background is all he has on his mystery guest. He knows she needs to stay safe and vows not to let Dalton down. The woman that walks past him into the house looks like she needs to sleep for a week but he also sees something there, and it intrigues him.

Emmy and Dwight develop a fast routine that helps her get through some of the hardest times she has when her PTSD starts to take over. His dog Sam also knows when she needs an extra bit of distraction to get past those memories. When the man she needs to testify against sends a hitman after her, Dwight knows he must do whatever he can to save her life.

Will Emmy hold it together until she testifies? Will Dwight be able to save her? You’ll have to grab a copy of the story to find out.

It's not likely Emmy Garrett and Dwight Reynolds would have met had she not been hiding from a mob assassin. She had witnessed a crime and was scheduled to testify in a few months. An assassin found her and were it not for the US Marshall assigned to her protection detail suddenly appearing, she would be dead. A request for a personal favor from the Marshall to his friend, Dwight Reynolds brings Emmy to Dwight's ranch in Montana. She is assured she will be safe. Even so, she doesn't expect to live long enough to testify.
What follows is a well plotted and engrossing story. The well developed characters are likeable and interesting. Realizing that time may be short, Emmy decides to live in the moment which leads to passion and romance. Danger lurks and when it surfaces, the story takes an unexpected turn.
I found this to be a well written and exciting story that is well worth reading. Highly recommended.

Emmy and Dwight’s story Home for a Cowboy Christmas by Donna Grant, book six in her Heart of Texas series, was truly enjoyable. Emmy, a bookkeeper, witnessed a mob related crime and is on the run, evading assassins until she can testify against the mob boss. Deputy US Marshall, Dalton Silva is determined to keep Emmy alive and find her a safe place to hide; as all others have been compromised, by a leak in the witness protection program; a program that had guaranteed her safety. She is introduced to Dwight, former marine, former FBI, dormer homeland security agent, who owns a ranch in Montana in the hopes that he can keep her safe from harm. Even though on the run, avoiding the dangers trying to kill her, Emmy unexpectedly found a sanctuary, two protectors: man and dog, a community, and love.

The magnetic attraction and sizzling chemistry between Emmy and Dwight ignites a slow-build romance; an extra motivation for Dwight to need to keep Emmy safe. This story has it all: attraction, romance, suspense and an adequate amount of intimacy. A sweet, enjoyable, novella, Wish Upon a Cowboy, with completely unrelated characters, Cady and Zane, who, in only a week, find true love, was included as a bonus.

Ms. Grant wrote an amazing, passionate, suspenseful and emotional story that is truly not to be missed. She provided a tale rich with sizzling chemistry, scary situations, intense conversations, and strong characters, giving Emmy and Dwight a chance to avoid death and enjoy a forever love. I highly recommend Home for a Cowboy Christmas to other readers.

I voluntarily reviewed a complimentary copy of this book.

A Sweet Cowboy Christmas romance that had the right of Christmas to keep it from being too cheesy. And finding that right balance is hard.

This is a Romantic Suspense. I have to say the characters in this book was so much fun following and getting to know. The romance in this book was very good. The suspense was there, but I found the suspense to be just in the background for most of this book. I really enjoyed this book and could not put it down. I was kindly provided an e-copy of this book by the publisher (St. Martin's Paperbacks) or author (Donna Grant) via NetGalley, so I can give an honest review about how I feel about this book. I want to send a big Thank you to them for that.

Emmy Garret is in witness protection but she is definitely not safe as the latest incident when the safe house where she's been housed is breached. Clearly someone's on the take or there's a leak in the US Marshall's office. Dalton, the only person she trusts takes her off the grid and stashes her with an old buddy whom he trusts to keep her safe.
Dwight has served with the FBI and Homeland Security protecting people before coming back to take over the family ranch. He's ready to help protect Emmy when Dalton an old buddy asks him for that favor. As he and Emmy spend time together a romance starts to blossom despite the danger surrounding her.
The people whom Emmy is scheduled to turn state's evidence against have not given up their search to find and kill her before she can give her testimony. Since Dalton has gone dark their usual sources in the police and Marshall's office are not able to help. It is amazing though how resourceful they are as they start to work on tracking Emmy. Will Dwight be able to keep her safe against the looming threat or will the hit man who's been dispatched to dispose of Emmy eliminate her. The author keeps the suspense going as she switches between the two viewpoints.
This is a standalone story which I thoroughly enjoyed.

My first Donna Grant book, and it was really good! I loved the mystery and intrigue involved in Emmy’s witness protection saga. Dwight is the perfect man to keep her safe, plus he’s not too hard on the eyes. He’s honest and trustworthy, something that Emmy desperately needs at this time. Their sparks are hot and sweet. His sister Victoria is a hoot…I’m kinda hoping she gets a story, as well as U.S. Marshal Dalton…I bet he’s got some hidden layers.
Great writing and an engaging plot…I’ll be back for more from this author.

Home for a Christmas Cowboy by Donna Grant is a story about Emmy, who is scheduled to testify against Denver's biggest mobster. She had already been pulled from the clutches of death by Dalton, her handler with the US Marshal's office once, as he unexpectedly stepped into her room just as the killer was going to shoot her in the head. Now they were on the run. Dalton was convinced that there was a leak in the marshal's office, so he was doing this on his own. He was smart. He had cars stashed and they traded them off every few hours. They went the wrong directions for days until he turned north toward Wyoming, where his friend, Dwight, lived on a huge, isolated ranch. She would be safe there, and she was until the killer got as far as Wyoming and then picked up pieces of idle gossip in a convenience store. Could her keep her safe?

This was a story that was totally predictable, which is not to say a good one. Dwight did keep her safe. He was strong, intelligent, and experienced, and things fell apart very slowly, only when he asked his friends and neighbors for help, and even the, accidentally. It was a well-plotted book. Dwight and Emmy were excellent characters, who knew their places in the world. Emmy was scared out of her mind and her fear was palpable. The reader was there with her. She had made a huge mistake and she knew it. Dwight knew it, too, and he could understand. He wanted to keep her safe, and eventually just wanted to keep her close. It is a story of love, and of friendship, and of being a good neighbor. It was a good read, and a good romance.

This was a good mashup between a thriller and romance. There was a real dangerous threat looming over all the romantic and Christmas feels between the main characters. I liked the mob informant story line even if Joe the Mafia Boss seemed like a C list gangster played by Joe Pesci and who was married to a Real Mob Housewife of NJ. It was clear his inferiority complex is what made him such a loose cannon.

I also liked that the heroine didn't play coy with her attraction to the hunk for long. If you are being hunted by a mob hitman, of COURSE you put hunky rancher at the top of your bucket list over dinner in Paris or running a marathon. ;)

This is a great book to pick up if you are looking to bridge the gap between fluffy Christmas romcom and a juicy edge of your seat thriller.

Short and sweet and sexy. For a shorter story this one has all the feels. When Emmy is put into witness protection and found US Marshall has to find a safe place for her. So he calls on an old buddy Dwight to protect her. This was fast paced and I really enjoyed the story
