⚠️ sexual harassment/assault

Last year I read Float Plan by Trish Dollar and was incredibly excited to see that she had written a story for Anna’s sister, Rachel, in The Suite Spot. I went into this story with a bit higher expectations as I loved Float Plan so much and I’m sad to say that this one didn’t really live up to the first book.

I enjoyed reading about Rachel and Mason together as coworkers/creative partners. There was so much that I enjoyed in seeing this two come together to get the resort open. It was also fun to read about forced proximity with not just these two, but with Rachel’s daughter Maisie. We learned that Mason has a tragic pass and I wish we explored his grief a little more intimately. I also wish that the sexual assault and harassment was omitted from this story as I feel like it was only used as the catapult to push Rachel to pick up and move from the place she calls home.

If you go into this book with zero expectations, this could be an enjoyable read for you. I just had my hopes set too high. I really wanted to love this story but it was just an okay read for me.

Meet rachel and mason, our perfect duo for a truly funny, comfort read, smooth writing, contemporary rom, and overall excellent book. If you’re looking for a moody, handsome, hardworking man then mason is your guy. If you’re interested in a single mom doing her absolute best then she’s your gal. Give this one an absolute read especially if you read float plan!

I love when the main character, in this case Rachel, is able to pick up their lives after things start crumbling around them and set off to find themselves and a better life.

Rachel is fired from her job as a hotel manager and finds an add for a small beer hotel on an island who is looking for a manager. She jumps on the opportunity ready to find a new adventure for her and her daughter Maisie.

When she arrives she finds Mason who is really great at making beer but not so great at managing the hotel. Rachel has her work cut out for her but she's eager for this new experience.

This book does cover some serious topics but it's done very well.

This was all together a great read.

This book was so refreshing! Rachel moves away from Florida with her three year old daughter to start over in Ohio, working on managing a brew hotel. Mason has a bit of a mess on his hands with the brew hotel (and in his life) and needs Rachel’s touch. Together they work to create an amazing brew hotel and taproom and also discover love.

I knocked a star off for the very unnecessary (yet predictable) drama that happens around Maisie.

Thank you to NetGalley and the author/publisher for the ARC.

I received an advanced copy of The
Sweet Spot. This is the second book from Trish and I loved it! It also turned out to be a sort of sequel from her other book I finished Float Plan.
Trish talks about hard topics that are difficult to address but humanizes them. I love her writing style and this story. Will read more of her books!

4.5☆

Thank you to the publisher and Netgalley for the advance reading copy. This one is heavier than I’m in the mood for right now and I’m not getting drawn into the story. This could definitely be a case of the wrong time and I may come back to it in the future.

I went into this expecting a heavy read, similar to The Float Plan. This was nowhere near as heavy, though it did have its moments. I enjoyed seeing how the hotel came together and all of the side characters were amazing. ⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️ I recommend this if you always wanted to be Lorelei Gilmore and run and inn.

Thank you so much @StMartinsPress & @NetGalley for giving me this eARC in exchange for my honest and unbiased review (Release Date | 08 March 2022)

SYNOPSIS | When Rachel is fired from her job as a Night Shift Manager at a local upscale hotel she decides to take a risk & move to Ohio for another opportunity. Once there she quickly realizes that the hotel she is supposed to be working at hasn't actually been built yet...

WHAT I LIKED:
- small town romance vibes
- conversation around grief

WHAT I DIDN'T LIKE:
- Rachel & Mason's relationship was just nice as I didn't feel like their connection was deep enough. I'm all for a slow burn, but I have to actually root for the relationship.
- I think this story suffered from too much plot in too short a book
- the ending felt pretty abrupt
- too many references to the first book in this series (Float Plan)

5 stars- I adored everything about this.

This being the second book, it is standalone still- just as a note but you should definitely check out The Float Plan too if you have not already. So delightful and the Caribbean setting is to die for.

I loved this book. I assumed that I would though. I was so curious about Rachel while reading The Float Plan so getting to meet her character was a treat.

The Suite Spot follows Rachel and Mason with featured character of her adorable daughter Maisie.

Rachel is fired from her job and when a new opportunity comes up out of state and on an island she jumps at the chance but things are not as they seemed and now she must work with Mason to build up the hotel. This has some grumpy sunshine vibes and enemies to lovers ish (they are never really enemies but Mason is definitely indifferent.)

I love the relationship and I was rooting for the characters the whole time. This was a swoony story with some steam but not overwhelming.

I would highly recommend this and I hope that everyone can check this one out and enjoy it.

I really enjoyed this book but I didn’t love it as much as I thought I would. The storyline was good but it felt like there was minimal built up to the romance part so I didn’t quite believe the connection. Individually, I really loved each character. Overall it was a quick read with a great ending. I recommend checking this one out.

Thank you to the publisher and NetGalley for providing a free advanced copy of this ebook and audiobook in exchange for an honest review.

I really enjoyed this one! I absolutely loved Float Plan so I was extremely interested in reading about Anna’s sister and although Float Plan is still the favorite, I enjoyed this follow up. The pacing was good and it was a pretty easy read for me which was much needed!

First of all, I loved all the Florida talk. I went to school in Miami so I could appreciate everything Rachel loved/hated about South Florida. It made me miss it for sure! I also loved the Kelley’s Island characters and another entertaining book club? Yes please. Avery and the other book club members were such a great group. I need to find my own book club just like that!

Rachel was super comfortable in her own skin which I thought was really refreshing but it also wasn’t overdone. Mason was introduced as the “grumpy” man but I’m glad that didn’t last too long because those sometimes get pretty annoying. His character had so much depth and a loving family that came with it.

I didn’t really like the drama at the end. I think that could have happened earlier or not at all, and Rachel’s decision was a bit ridiculous at that point.

Overall, it was extremely enjoyable and I will be reading anything Trish Doller puts out in the future!

Thank you to StMartinsPress and Netgalley for the arc in exchange for my honest review

I absolutely loved Float Plan last year so I had really high hopes for this one. Unfortunately, this one didn't quite live up to my expectations. However, a lot of that stems from the fact that this one was so much lighter than the last with some very different vibes. Overall, it was cute and sweet and short and definitely one I think a lot of people will like. And very easy to read without having read the first one.
The Suite Spot starts off strong with a Rachel getting fired from a job she loves for something that wasn't her fault and deciding on a whim to take a job she was offered through a friend. She figures she needs something new and exciting so she packs up her daughter and heads to Ohio from Florida to manage a new hotel. But the situation in Ohio is a little different than what she expected.
I think the biggest surprise for me about this one after reading FP was how sweet and soft it was. There is a character dealing with the loss of someone incredibly important but I didn't feel nearly as much emotion in this one as I did the last. Which is completely fine, just such a different vibe than I was expecting.
The other thing that was different for me was the lack of chemistry I felt between the two leads. Individually, I liked both of them, but I just didn't feel a lot of sparks between them. They worked really well as friends and maybe I just didn't have enough time with them since the book was fairly short but the development of the romance wasn't entirely convincing for me.
The one thing I did really love was Rachel's connection to her new community and the friends she made with the women in her new town. I enjoyed that part of the book and the idea that Rachel had finally found connections in her own community, especially outside of a romantic relationship.
Overall, this was a sweet little book with a cute, small-town setting. There are a couple of issues thrown in to complicate things as usual but I appreciated how easy it was to read. For anyone looking for a cute romance that's fairy angst-free, check out this one.

But if you like this one, check out the first one with caution. It has a much heavier feel overall and deals with issues of loss and suicide. Each can be read on its own.

CW: [spoiler]There is a brief sexual harassment encounter at work and talk about the loss of a child. [hide spoiler]

THANK YOU TO THE PUBLISHERS!! OMG THIS BOOK❤ I could not stop reading this sweet novel about this single mom trying to do better for herself and her young daughter. When she is "let go" (😡) from her job in Florida at a hotel, she must figure out a Plan B. Rachel gathers the courage to reach out to a hotel in OHIO for a management position and thus begins the story of Rachel and said hotel owner (Mason). I loved the characters, the setting and the growth of Rachel throughout this book. It is a grumpy/ sunshine trope and a heartfelt story! 4.5🌟 Now to read the Float Plan which I missed last year!

Looooooved it. Such a good book dealing with many real-life issues. I’m a Trish Doller fan for real.

I like that this book can be read as a stand alone (as I hadn’t read the first one). I was a little thrown off by the heavy topics at the beginning, sexual harassment/assault and child loss. I wasn’t expecting those from a romance type book and it almost made me not want to continue. I did finish the book and I enjoyed the remainder of the story and I’m not sure some of those heavier topics were necessary or really added to the story.

It's totally fitting that I'm sitting in a hotel room writing this review of 𝗧𝗛𝗘 𝗦𝗨𝗜𝗧𝗘 𝗦𝗣𝗢𝗧 which is about a couple falling in love while they start a brewery/hotel.

I loved this sweet romance! The second book in Trish Doller's 𝘉𝘦𝘤𝘬 𝘚𝘪𝘴𝘵𝘦𝘳𝘴 series, it follows Rachel, the sister of Anna from 𝙁𝙡𝙤𝙖𝙩 𝙋𝙡𝙖𝙣 (one of my favorite books of 2021!), and has the same heartfelt charm as the first. Mason is the perfect book boyfriend and his relationship with Rachel is so believable. Doller tackles a lot in this story including parenting, grief, body positivity and more, and we even get cameos from Anna and Keane. Don't worry if you haven't read 𝙁𝙡𝙤𝙖𝙩 𝙋𝙡𝙖𝙣 - this book works as a stand alone - but seriously, go read 𝙁𝙡𝙤𝙖𝙩 𝙋𝙡𝙖𝙣 and definitely follow it up with 𝙏𝙝𝙚 𝙎𝙪𝙞𝙩𝙚 𝙎𝙥𝙤𝙩.

Thanks to St. Martin's Press and NetGalley for the copy to review.

I absolutely adored this story. It was a sweet read that I finished so fast! One you get hooked into Rachel's life, you can't help but keep turning the pages. I read this as a standalone read, not having read Float Plan (Beck Sisters, #1) and wouldn't have known any different.

The Suite Spot follows Rachel Beck who is a single mom who adventures outside of her comfort zone for a new adventure. After losing her job at a fancy hotel in FL she lands an opportunity in OH working with Mason as he works toward opening a new Brewery-Hotel. Rachel and her daughter Maisie leave their house and her mother behind along with Maisie's dad Brian. After she makes the trip she soon discovers that this job is not what she thought it would be.

Her new boss Mason, offers her full reign of helping bring his Brewery-Hotel idea to fruition. She quickly learns how to navigate this new dynamic as Mason mourns the loss of his child and divorce shortly after. As Rachel settles into her new life with her daughter Maisie, her and Mason find themselves mutually attracted but both treading lightly so as to not upset the dynamic.

As Rachel gets her new footing and becomes part of the community and her relationship with Mason starts to bloom. They learn to overcome their fears and troubles together and this is truly the heart of the book.

I loved the build up of the Rachel and Masons relationship and the realness each of the characters faced. While you could predict what would happen with Maisie's dad, this is just a small part of the story and doesn't deter from the main Rachel & Mason storyline. The one downside I would say is how fast the book ended and how much I would have liked to hear more about their building a life together.

Absolutely adored this story of finding love and pushing yourself past and out of your comfort zone.

Rachel loses her job after being sexually harassed by a hotel guest and is floundering as a single mom who lives with her mom. There has to be more than this for her. Her on again off again boyfriend baby daddy is just another thing that is dismal for her. She and Maisie both need something more. Rachel's friend gives her the contact information for a job in Ohio. It sounds too good to be true, but Rachel decides to be brave and go for it.

She rolls up expecting to be a hotel manager annnnnd the hotel isn't what you would call finished yet. But she stays and Mason needs her. Mason has his own pain and grief and you can't hep but fall for him and this sweet little lake town. I loved these two taking their time and that Keane comes in as our voice of reason to help Rachel understand Mason.

Things are perfect and Rachel thinks that the universe just has it out for her as she is torn away from this man, town and job that she loves. You just wait because Mason is going to show up for her in the best way. I really would have loved to see a little more of their HEA but I loved this one.

Thank you NetGalley and St Martin's Press.

Rachel loses her job at a luxury resort for something she didn't do. She ends up accepting a position at a brewery on an island. While there, she meets the owner - a man named Mason who is trying to build a brewery and also rebuild his life.

I really enjoyed this one. Reading about Rachel and Mason figure out their lives was fun. I like Doller's books because they make you feel good and aren't overly complicated. This will put you in a good mood!

I really enjoyed this one!

A huge thank you to St Martins Griffin and NetGalley for my advanced copy of The Suite Spot.

What I Loved-

*The Length- The Suite Spot was short and sweet. Just under 300 pages. This book had amazing pacing and kept me fully engaged. Nothing felt unnecessary or drawn out.

*The Characters- Every single character in this book is loveable. They are complex and unique. I appreciate the way Trish Doller navigates the heavier issues that the characters were facing.

*The Plot- I love a fresh start type storyline. Rachel uproots her life and moves to Ohio to manage a brewery hotel in Ohio.

*The Setting- I loved this close knit community on Kelleys Island.

*The Romance- Rachel and Mason were perfect for each other. I'm thankful to this author for writing a healthy relationship with an open line of communication.

Overall- Highly Recommend. I already have Trish Doller's 2023 release added to my TBR.
