I have been so excited for this book and it exceeded all my expectations. Rachel is a single mother living with her daughter and mom in florida. after she loses her job, she decides on a whim to apply to a job in Ohio. When she arrives, it’s nothing like she expected. The owner, Mason, is working through his own issues but they come together to create the hotel. There were so many things I loved about this book, but my favorite might be the lack of emphasis on the fact that she was fat. As a plus size woman, it can be hard to find a book with a plus size main character that isn’t focused completely around the fact that she’s fat and unlovable. so thank you.

I read the first book in Trish’s Beck Sisters series, The Float Plan, about a year ago and enjoyed so I was happy to get the opportunity to read this one as well. This book follows Rachel, who moves from Florida to an island in Lake Erie for a new job when she is fired from the luxury hotel she’s worked at for years. When she arrives she finds that the hotel she was hired to manage has not been finished yet so she helps Mason, the owner, get the location ready for guests. The two become friends and then more.

I think I liked this book slightly more than the first one in the series. I found Rachel and Mason’s relationship really realistic, though I do think there needed to be more discussion and ground work put down when they began dating as Rachel is his employee. I didn’t need the drama with Rachel’s baby daddy, but I guess it served its purpose. Rachel’s daughter Maisie is on page quite a bit but she didn’t bother me because she was a child who acted like a child and not a child with the wisdom of an adult. I enjoyed seeing Anna and Keane (the hero and heroine from the first book) again and was pleased to see them happy.

Thank you to NetGalley and St. Martin Griffin for the ARC in exchange for an honest review.

Trigger Warnings: There is an attempted sexual assault on the page and references to to suicide and child death (not the suicide) that happened off page.

THE SUITE SPOT delivered a feel-good romance about a single mom, her sweet little kid, and a really solid second chance storyline. I appreciate the work and weight of solo-parenting being included, and I was happy for Rachel to recognize she deserved more than the lackluster effort Maisie’s dad was willing to offer.

🌟🌟🌟🌟🌟 5/5 stars

The Suite Spot is a warm and tender love story that is the perfect follow-up to Float Plan. This story follows Rachel Beck, who is struggling to escape the rut she has found herself in. She is the mother to an adorable 3 year old, lives with her mom, and has a toxic relationship with the daughter’s father. When she impulsively takes a job across the country at a brewery hotel, she meets Mason. Mason is the owner and left out that the hotel is barely more than foundation and studs. Together the two must work together to build their dream hotel and maybe rebuild their lives.

I loved this one even more than Float Plan. Rachel and Mason are two very lovable characters and I loved their grump/sunshine dynamic. The setting of Kelleys Island immediately made me want to take a trip there. I loved the entire vibe of this book and want to live in Rachel’s Pinterest board. Made me laugh, sigh, and tear up. 5 stars.

I loved this book even more than Float Plan! The writing was beautiful, and I loved the main characters. The feelings seemed both realistic and heartfelt. My only complaint is I wish it was longer!

This was such a heartwarming and cozy read! I really enjoyed reading The Float Plan last year and was excited when it was announced that this would be a fun follow and continuation of the Beck Sisters!

This one follows Rachel and her daughter embarking on a new journey but there’s satisfying mentions and updates of Anna and Keane and their new adventures together!

It’s certainly deeper than your typical light and surface level rom com and I applaud Doller for utilizing a plus size woman as her protagonist!

Recommended for anyone looking for a delightful comfort read!

I read my first Trish Doller book, Float Plan, last year and just loved it. It was banter-filled, and while centering around a heavy topic, keeping it light. If you've read that one you will love to see that her latest novel, The Suite Spot, ties in that story often. Maybe if I'm honest, too often (I was like man, is she trying to sell us on the other book incase we haven't read it?). It lacked the banter I loved in The Float Plan, and felt almost overly written. Like too much thought was put into each scene or sentence. It didn't flow as well as I'd hoped and the ending seemed very abrupt.

However, I did enjoy the story, though it felt kind of surface. It was light and fun, plus I loved the "vacation" vibes cause it all took place while building the resort. I read it very quickly and I often had a smile on my face.

I adored The Float Plan. I ranked as one of my favorite books for the year. So, The Suite Spot had big shoes to fill. Once I finished it, my initial reaction was that it was good but not as good as The Float Plan. However, after sitting with it for a few days and processing the storyline, I think I've changed my opinion. This book was different but every bit as good as its predecessor. I'm happy to say that Trish Doller's words are some of my favorites!

The Suite Spot is the second book about the Beck Sisters. Rachel is Anna's sister. It was nice to get a peak at Anna and Keagan in this book as well and know they are thriving in their relationship. Yet this book is about Rachel and her search for happiness.

Rachel is a single mother who has a very on again, off again relationship with her daughter's father. When her career takes a direct hit after someone lies about her and she can't find a job of equal pay in Miami, Rachel has to consider taking an opportunity in Ohio that a friend told her about. It sounds perfect - - a manager for boutique hotel and brewery. Of course, when Rachel and her daughter show up in Ohio, the position isn't exactly as it was described but the owner is every bit as grumpy in person.

The story continues with Rachel taking on the challenge to help Mason get the hotel and brewery up and going on a deadline while also trying to understand the grumpy and stand-offish man. Their slowly developing romance is realistic and touching once you understand all the elements involved. It was impossible not to fall in love with these characters and in turn want to see them fall for each other.

Thank you to NetGalley for this ARC. I voluntarily chose to read and review it and the opinions contained within are my own.

I absolutely fell for this book!!! Props to single moms out there. Though I’m sure they don’t all go through situations like this, it was admirable to read a story about one.

Rachel is a single mom trying to stay afloat in a relationship that’s flopping. She still lives at home and works nights at a hotel to be there for her daughter. But all that changes when she loose her job and she doesn’t know what to do with her life until she randomly decides to get a job at a brewery hotel. So she packs up her life and moves on whim that it’ll all be better. What she doesn’t expect to find is Mason.

I haven’t read the first book in the Beck Sisters series, but now I’m excited to because Trish Doller writes such relatable characters even if you’re not going through the same situations. And you don’t have to read the first to read this because you don’t get lost in the who’s who. This book has my fave trope of grumpy-sunshine. And it doesn’t disappoint. Rachel, Mason and even Maise are well written characters. So if you rxpect to get lost and binge a love story, this one is it!

Thanks to the publisher and Netgalley for the early copy of this one in exchange for a review.

Rachel is having a tough time as a single mother living with her mom when she loses her job working in hotel hospitality in Miami- a job she loves. She is lost and doesn't know what to do and decides to answer an ad to work at a hotel and brewery on an island in Lake Erie. Soon she finds herself at the island being charmed by the owner and dealing with a new life on the island with her daughter.

I don't know if the romance in this felt totally real, but I really loved the setting and thought the story was so cute. Definitely heartwarming and lighthearted, which is needed during this time!

Well The Suite Spot is certainly SWEET! It is a second chance romance set on an island on Lake Erie. The characters are delightful and I read this one very quickly! I liked the highlights into the Japanese culture. If you are looking for something heartwarming and fast paced, I highly recommend this one!

Really enjoyed this one! I am a sucker for a relatively low stakes, low conflict romance and this is pretty much the perfect book for that. Of course there is some ~drama~ and ~tension~ but nothing that made me so anxious I had to stop reading (which shockingly a lot of romances do). My one critique of this book however is that it needed a longer last chapter or an epilogue - something to help the abruptness of that ending. I appreciate that the ending wasn't even bad but it's starting to become a pet peeve of mine in romance books were you spend 70% of the book waiting for the characters to get together, get the 3rd act break up around 85-89% of the way through and then have it all wrapped up and finished in the last 2% of the book. It really doesn't do justice to the relationship you spent over half of the time waiting for IMO. Other than that I think this book hits all the right notes and made my smile like a fool! It's also definitely been the push I needed to finally read Float Plan!

I was a big fan of Float Plan last year, and I made sure to get my hands on Suite Spot as soon as I could!

The Suite Spot follows Rachel, Anna’s sister as she navigates being a single parent, losing a job and figuring out how to re invent herself.

My favorite part of this book was that it felt like a destination romance. I loved the wooded island setting, the coming together of the hotel, and how Dollar gave attention to creating characters with damage who find a way to patch themselves up.

Rachel was a fairly easy main character to connect to, she was fun, and light hearted and I loved her development throughout the book. Mason was fantastic, I loved the representation when it came to his arc and his familial cultural background. I thought the chemistry was great, slow burn and organic.

There were some moments that made me disconnect from the story and I felt somewhat that the ending conflict was a bit much BUT it didn’t curb my overall enjoyment.

While it didn’t quite reach Float Plan for me, I still was glad I read it. And I am still excited to continue on with the series!

*some mild strong language and a couple of romantic openish door scenes that never get too explicit and are fairly short.

You guys know how much I OBSESSED over The Float Plan last year, so obviously The Suite Spot was one of my most anticipated reads of 2022…. And it did not disappoint!!! Doller’s romance/women’s fiction combo is MY JAM!

What I loved:
•I really identified with Rachel, trying to find herself and her career while being a single mom.
•MASON!! Omg this guy. I adored his quiet, brooding personality and loved seeing him come alive as the story progressed.
•The grumpy cat and adorable little girl - something about funny animals and kids as side characters really add to a story.
•Great forced proximity in an incredible setting! I’ve been dying to go to these little islands in Lake Erie and this book might be the push I need to finally get there!!
•OKAY. I need a beer hotel to be a thing!!! Where can I find this???

SOOOO. I’ve officially decided I will not be settling for any man who can’t make me my own special beer. Seems reasonable to wait it out for my own Mason….

About a year ago, I fell in love with the romance book Float Plan by Trish Doller. After reading that I was ready to set sail and leave my life behind (until I realized I can't swim and have a fear of water. And strangers. Good thing stories like this exist). I was so excited when I found out that Anna's sister, Rachel, was due for her own story with The Suite Spot!

This book is out Tuesday, March 8th, so get ready to run to your local bookstore if you haven't yet preordered.

I loved this story from start to finish, and that is saying a lot because I came in with very high expectations. While Anna’s story was filled with adventure and something I could never do, Rachel’s story could be any of us brave enough to pick up our life and start fresh. Although starting fresh comes with all those bumps that happen along the way.

Mason, who is Rachel’s boss, is a surprising male lead in that I didn’t think I would fall for him the way I did by the end of the book. The cast of characters from Rachel’s new life were so adorable, I wished I could live there and have my kids grow up there. I also loved how close Rachel's family is, in the sense that Rachel began to understand Anna's actions more closely after the death of her significant other, and how her mom was always there to help out.

One of the things mentioned in the Acknowledgements was that due to the pandemic, the novel became one that was a comfort read, and that is what this felt like. Something to curl up with at night and see how Rachel and Mason were doing.

Note: CW - SA, mentions of child death and suicide

I highly recommend this one!

Rachel needs a new job and after working the night shift at a bad hotel she give Mason a shot but he doesn't give a good first impression with his brewery-hotel. They show up and its a start from the beginning for Rachel. I loved the plot and idea of this book but the chemistry was off with this on- esp for Mason- I feel like we didn't get the chemistry coming off the page or he needed more time. I think many people will still love this - I just loved book one - so don't know if that is why and I had too high of expectations but the timing and chemistry was just off for me. Also the ending was not done...(at least for me) I just wanted more.

What could have been better?
With the time jumps it made me feel like I was missing some of the build up with Rachel and Mason. I wish I got more time with them together and more time seeing them fall in love.

What I enjoyed!
This book was the fluffy and light and happy read I needed. A PERFECT palate cleanser from some of the really heavy stuff I’d been reading lately.

Mason? Ugh. He must be protected at all costs. He was so sweet and kind and genuine.

I loved Rachel and her love for her daughter Maisie! Also her drive was unmatched.

This book has some diversity, it has fat rep, and it just made me SMILE.

Sometimes, all I want is an easy read that I can fly through and doesn’t put me through emotional turmoil and this was it 💕

If you grumpy/sunshine pairings, and a quick read that will just make you smile? A beach read? I would definitely pick this up.

#TheSuiteSpot:

“I don’t want to fall apart. I want the universe to bend my way for once.”

Hold the phone! Did I know this was part of a series? I loved Float Plan last year, so when I heard Anna’s name pop up, I shot up from my lounge chair and went to goodreads to make sure I wasn’t dreaming.

I loved Float Plan, and just like it, The Suite Spot is a wonderful romance, but is still deeper and more authentic than the happy go lucky cover reveals. There’s many triggers that are listed in the very beginning, so please check those.

I really loved Rachel and Mason’s relationship. They were so authentic and patient with each other. I loved that they had great communication about triggers and issues instead of it just bottling up and exploding later. They had realistic reservations and real life issues that aren’t fluffy or easy to fix. I also loved that Mason crafted beer! So many hops and wheats, I wanted to go to a brewery ASAP and finish the book with a pint!

I did an audio and reading combo and LOVED the audio. I took a quick road trip and was so happy @macmillansudio provided it so I could actually finish the book. You know when you just want to know what happens but you’ve got responsibilities? (Insert Tommy Pickles meme) Sarah Naughton was so good and I really thought we had two different readers at one point (reading for Mason and another for Rachel) Highly recommend the audio!

I enjoyed The Suite Spot until about the 92% mark, then I just got annoyed. I know we needed a bit of conflict or a “great misunderstanding” but it just felt kind of random and excessive. I also felt like it completely ruined Rachel’s character development. I wasn’t a fan and felt it didn’t add much to the plot or happy ending. I really could have done without the last 8% of the book and this would have been a 5 star.

Overall, another great and realistic love story, but don’t let the cover fool you of a happy romcom. The audio is where it’s at! Thank you @macmillanau and @smoromance for the gifted copy. The Suite Spot is out Tuesday, 3/8!

“Beer is proof that God loves us and wants us to be happy.”

Read this if…you like HGTV makeovers, a grumpy/sunshine trope, and/or you enjoyed Float Plan.

TW: death of a child, divorce

Rachel Beck is a single mom to 3 year-old Maisie. When she gets fired from her job at a luxury hotel, she decides it’s time to take some chances in life and gets hired to help manage a vacation resort in Ohio. When she arrives, things aren’t exactly as she was expecting. For one, the guest cabins haven’t even been built yet and the tap room that is meant to be the main attraction is a mess. Speaking of messes, Rachel’s boss, Mason is recovering from a terrible heartache and is in over his head with his lofty goals for his vacation property. Will the pair be exactly what the other needs?

I loved Float Plan last summer so when I heard that Doller was coming out with a new book about Anna’s sister, I was in! Anna and Keane do make a few appearances in the book, but this is Rachel’s story about how she and Mason found love while navigating through their baggage. I actually liked Rachel a lot and Mason was a dreamboat, although I’d still pick Keane over him any day. Overall, this was a sweet love story, but I think it lacked the emotional depth I was hoping for after reading Float Plan. I could’ve also used a bit more spice. It was a lot of fun accompanying Rachel as she went shopping for unique pieces as she designed the guest cabins. That made my DIY self very happy!

A big thanks to Netgalley, the author, and St. Martin’s press for a digital ARC in exchange for my honest review!

One universal truth I’ve discovered as I get older is that adulting can be difficult – for everyone. Whether you’re struggling for balance or feeling the warm embrace of fortune smiling upon you, life happens. And life happened big time to Rachel Beck, who took a big, brave leap of faith in Trish Doller’s sweet, contemporary, grumpy sunshine story, The Suite Spot.

This is the second installment of her Beck Sisters series, but it can easily be read as a standalone. It’s my favorite kind of series, really, because other than an occasional allusion to Anna and Keane (from Float Plan), the reader can fully focus on what’s happening here. Rachel Beck is a single mother to four-year-old Maisie. They live with Rachel’s mother while Rachel works the front desk on the night shift at the Aquamarine luxury hotel in Fort Lauderdale. Rachel’s stuck in a safe, boring rut, hoping that Maisie’s father will evolve into a better man, and that she’ll get promoted to a better position at Aquamarine. Instead, her ex, Brian, continues to be reliably unreliable, and she’s fired because a customer made a complaint when she wouldn’t have sex with him.

Serendipity strikes when Rachel gets a bead on a hotel manager position on Kelley’s Island in the middle of Lake Erie, for a new hybrid microbrewery and boutique hotel.  It might seem that a woman born and bred in south Florida would be hesitant to relocate to a place that has a potential to be socked in with ice for three to four months, but she’s ready for change. And it’s a good thing, because after talking with Mason Brown, owner of the Limestone Inn and Public House, she decides to take the job.

It's immediately obvious Mason’s offer should’ve come with a warning that says: ‘can’t you just imagine how great it’ll be?’ Because situated in the middle of the heavily forested tiny island is a great, big unfinished project.

“So when you said you wanted the job, I didn’t tell you the hotel was unfinished because I didn’t want you to change your mind.”

“Why would you do that?”

“Because I’m completely in the weeds when it comes to running a hotel, much less building one,” he says. “I thought … well, I hoped … that if you saw the place and understood the vision, you might want to stay and oversee the construction.”

If ever there was a better euphemism for a brokenhearted, lonely man who relegated himself to a life alone, it’s news to me. Mason’s origin story is so very sad, and the death of his child, who was the same age as Maisie when she died a few years prior, casts a wide shadow over his life. As Mason and Rachel begin building their great Big Thing, life happens again, and stupid Brian comes back into the picture. Adulting, right?

Trish Doller is a great storyteller, and she has crafted a romance that’s easy to read. Her language is comfortable, the pace is perfect and the character development relatable and memorable. Everything about this journey is satisfying as Rachel and Mason make their way from friends to lovers. What started as a rope-a-dope disaster turns into a very mature, realistic, and relatable partnership between two people who needed each other. Adulting at its finest.
