The Suite Spot - Beck Sisters #2, follows Rachel, the younger sister to Anna from Float Plan.
Rachel struggles as a single parent, loses her job and decides to take a chance in Ohio. Rachel's story literally evolves in my backyard - Kelley's Island, Cedar Point, Sandusky and Port Clinton. I was so stoked to read this novel as I'm familiar with the roads, towns and foods.
This romance was endearing, and Mason's thoughtfulness stole my heart. The secondary characters were a delight and the close knit community on Kelley's Island was extra special. The Suite Spot tackles grief, parenthood, friendships and ways forward to overcome the past. It is a romance NOT to put down, as I read it in a single day.
I look forward to future novels under Doller's pen. Thank you St. Martins Press for the advance reader copy.

My Thoughts
This quickly became more addictive as I read it than Anna’s story in book 1!
Older sister Rachel Beck gets her turn and after her daughter Maisie working at a luxury beach hotel is her greatest passion to date.
When the job is taken away finding new employment proves not only tricky but unfulfilling to her creative side as well.
Enter a job based on Kelleys Island in Lake Erie where owner Mason proves to be more of a challenge than the actual job he hired her to do.
As the story progresses and these two open up to each other as plans get underway for the hotel of their collaborative dreams they find a common ground for combining wants with needs both personally as well as professionally.
I was engrossed from the beginning to it’s happy ending as this author penned a wonderful follow-up romance to enjoy between two people whose lives finally get a positive outcome for all concerned.
Even a persnickety cat gets one also thanks to Maisie and her ability to unconditionally love a heretofore unlovable animal.

On every book read as soon as it is done and written up for review it is posted on Goodreads and Netgalley, once released then posted on Amazon, Barnes and Nobles as well.
4.5 ⭐️
After losing her job at the hotel, Rachel catches wind of a great opportunity to start over. A big change and a definite risk, Rachel moves herself and her toddler Maisie from Florida to Ohio to help manage a hotel on a small island. Little does she know, the hotel is nowhere near ready, but a space she can help develop. Unlucky in love and life, the new place and the surly owner Mason start to feel like home… until, Rachel’s ex bursts her happy bubble, demanding partial custody of their daughter.
I loved this one more than FLOAT PLAN! From all the going ons of a brewery, remodeling and furnishing cabin spaces to the small town vibes and folks that welcomed Rachel and Maisie. There were a number of subtle yet tender moments that made me aww and swoon, and I appreciated the detail. It was a quick, delightful single parent romance that’s guaranteed to put you in a good mood!
This was such a cute, heartwarming book about a single mom who got fired but saw an opportunity across the country where she meets the handsome owner of a new business. I really enjoyed this novel even though I didn't read the first one which isn't necessary as it could be read as a standalone. The writing was amazing and I love how Doller can bring her words together. I love how the story starts off as it's kind of intense from the beginning which gets the attention of the reader. The pacing was fast but when the cute scenes come in, it lasts for a while (which is a good thing!). The story is written in two povs so you can see the issues one person has for the other. The writing was overall very well done and I had no problems with it.
The main characters are Rachel and Mason. Rachel is a mom of a small child and was recently fired from her job so she needs money in order to support herself. Mason just lost his wife and kid but is slowly trying to pick himself back up. I enjoyed both of these characters a lot and enjoyed seeing their development via solo or together. They both have their own struggles where Rachel has to focus on her kids and Mason losing his family. There are also a great amount of side characters involved in the book and I enjoyed seeing how involved they were with the story. Rache's new bff is my favorite as she was super sweet and understood Rachel. I also love how Rachel's kid was involved with the story as it just brought everything together. The romance is more of a business to lovers / minor enemies to lovers romance with a 1/5 level of steaminess. The romance was very cute and just kept me in aww.
The ending was well done with a happily ever after. Doller is an incredible writer and I'm excited to read more books from her. I had no problems with this book as you can see. I'm most likely going to buy the first book as I want to find out how Rachel's sister's story began. I recommend this book to fans of Sweet Bliss and Netflix show Maid.
In this romance we are following Rachel, a single mother and hotel manger take a new job far away from her home in Florida. We then meet Mason who is trying to set up a Brewery and hotel. Watching them work together to get everything ready for the opening was very enjoyable.
As much as I enjoyed reading Anna story in The Float Plan I really enjoyed and connected more to Rachel story. I loved the small town community setting with all the various characters. I would recommend having your favorite craft brew nearby when reading this book!
Some CW may be spoiler, but i recommend looking into them as needed.
Thanks to Net Galley and St. Martin’s Press for the ARC of The Suite Spot
This book was so good. I loved her last book The Float Plan, but I think I loved this one a bit more. Rachel is a single mom living in FL with her mom. She's struggling in life after she was fired because a guest at the hotel she worked at propositioned her and she told him off. After getting a lead on a job in Ohio, Rachel's and her daughter Maisie head there to find Mason, a divorcee who's brewery/hotel is nowhere near completion. As time progresses the brewery, hotel, Rachel, and Mason all thrive and rebuild. Mason is such a wonderful character that you instantly root for. His family and friend's on Kelleys Island, OH are amazing and inviting. I loved the setting (Kelleys Island and the sites mentioned are real and now I want to go there) and secondary characters. They were easy to picture and that made the book even more realistic.
Trish has quickly become an auto-buy author for me.
Although Rachel's character was immemorable from Float Plan, I adored Trish Doller's debut novel so much that I was very eager to read The Suite Spot. Unfortunately, this book just didn't live up to my expectations.
I enjoyed the main characters as individuals and thought they were well developed. Rachel and Mason both experienced a lot of growth throughout the novel. However, I think their chemistry felt somewhat forced. I DID love the side characters. They community they created felt very warm and genuine, and I loved reading about the people cheering Rachel and Mason on.
I liked reading about the changing of both the inn and Rachel and Mason's relationship throughout the different months. The progress was definitely slow-and-steady. However, the end wrapped up very quickly in comparison, and I honestly felt surprised that the book was finished.
This book was enjoyable, but not one that will stick out in my brain. However, I will continue to auto-buy any Trish Doller novel.

All while handling some heavy topics, this book was a soft butterfly in my stomach. All about the feelings of having a crush and liking someone. Straddling the line of women's fiction and romance, I adored Rachel so much. A single mom willing to do whatever she could for her daughter (Maisie was adorable) not secure in her body, and not making the best decisions about men. The lowest point in her life turns into an opportunity for change and a move to Ohio. I couldn't put it down, it was so compulsively readable, the perfect slow burn.
Stoic Mason, with his own pain was just the sweetest as he pushed through despite it all to fall in love with both Rachel and Maisie. Honestly he was just the kindest, there for Rachel, believing in her, seeing her. This book is all about boundaries, trusting someone, consent, and second chances. Every time Mason and Rachel were on the page together I felt butterflies in my stomach, their romance was so sweet, so beautifully earned. I loved seeing glimpses of Anna and Keane and cannot wait for more in this series.
Steam: 2.5 (peak around the door but ultimately closed door)
I admit I have the Float Plan in my TBR pile but have not read it yet. After reading this book though, I am going to go back and read that book ASAP. I loved this so much! I finished the book in one day, something usually does not happen to me. I was so vested in the story, I could not put it down.
Such a simple premise, a single mother loses her job and moves across the country to become the Hotel Manager for an upcoming Brewery Hotel. There is so MUCH more though- rich people getting away with sexual harassment, the struggles of a single mother, growing and learning along with self-acceptance not just for Rachel but also for Mason. The idea is that Co-parenting doesn't always have to be an ugly situation and if you love each other you will do what it takes to make it work. Mason and Rachels's love story was also paced so well and was sweet to read!
I highly recommend this book.
Thank you St. Martin’s Press, St. Martin’s Griffith for my copy! All thoughts are my own.
I read and enjoyed Float Plan by Trish Doller last year so when I saw the cover of The Suite Spot, my mountain loving, outdoorsy heart needed to read it! And I’m SO glad I did'. The only way I can describe this book is like the first day of Spring. It feels warm and joyful, with a little bit of grit and gratitude for making it through the long winter. I had a great time reading it!
Synopsis:
“One of the few bright lights in Rachel Beck’s life is her job at a Miami Beach luxury hotel—until she’s fired for something she didn’t do. As a single mom, Rachel knows she needs stability, and fast. On impulse, Rachel inquires about a position at a brewery hotel on a tiny island in Lake Erie called Kelleys Island. When she’s offered the job, not even the grumpy voice on the line can dissuade her from packing up her whole life and making the move. What she finds on Kelleys Island is Mason, a handsome, reclusive man who knows everything about brewing beer and nothing about running a hotel. Especially one that’s barely more than foundation and studs. It’s not the job Rachel was looking for, but Mason offers her a chance to help build a hotel—and rebuild her life—from the ground up.Trish Doller’s The Suite Spot is about taking a chance on a new life and a new love.” —NetGalley
What I Liked:
The Setting—I LOVED the setting on a small remote island off the coast of Ohio in the Great Lakes. It felt very familiar and reminded me of my love for the Adirondacks. It’s also such a fun setting with the brewery. I’m not a huge beer drinker but I loved how passionate Mason was about it!
The Side Characters—I needed the burst of joy and the side characters on the island were so wonderful. I loved Avery so much!
The Romance—I really liked Mason and Rachel’s growth. It felt natural, with just the right amount of magic to keep the RomCom ton alive.
The Definitions/Quotes at the top of every chapter—Such a fun touch and I learned some new vocabulary in other languages.
What Didn’t Work For Me:
Not much—I always prefer open door in my romances but the tension and story was so good, I didn’t mind it being closed door/low steam!
Content Warnings:
Loss of a child, grief, custody battle, sexual assault, fatphobia, mention of death by suicide
Character Authenticity: 4/5 Steam Rating: .25/5 Overall Rating: 4/5
I LOVED THIS!!! I ate it up in one sitting and absolutely loved the story line. I love a good single parent trope, and I'm even more of a sucker for small town romances. Mason is 100% a dream man and Rachel is such a strong female character. One thing I didn't particularly like was the ending, since it felt a little rushed to me. I'm glad we still got a mini epilogue but the problems seemed to be resolved a little too quickly that didn't match the rest of the tone of the novel. I still would definitely read this again though, and I'm excited to read more of Trish Doller's work!
Trish Doller describes her newest novel, The Suite Spot as “warm and gentle” and I couldn’t come up with a more spot on summary than that. Sometimes you need a ridiculously, wildly dramatic book full of yearning, banging, dangering, etc and sometimes you just need something quiet and nice and easy. The Suite Spot certainly hits the sweet spot (it’s the pun you were waiting for and it only took me 3 sentences…huzzah)!!
Rachel is a single mom from Florida (this sister of Anna from Doller’s other fabulous book- Float Plan) who has a great job in a hotel until she gets fired after she refuses the advances of a wealthy guest (who thinks an insulting $100 bill will make her drop her pants). Learning of a job opportunity to help run a “brewery hotel” on an island in Lake Eerie, Rachel heads to Ohio where she meets the hot hotel owner, Mason, who forgot to tell her that there wasn’t an actual hotel built yet…whoopsies. Rachel also forgot to ask where she and her daughter would be living before she uprooted her little family 1300 miles away from home- the answer, as it turns out, is in Mason’s house with him. Super not shady at all!!! Mason is hot and a little mysterious so this could have gone one of two ways: 1) they fall in love 2) Mason wears Rachel’s skin as a suit. Spoiler alert: since this book isn’t called “The Suit Spot”… they fall in love and build a super cool beer hotel that I want to visit.
I really enjoyed this book. Float Plan was one of my fave books from 2021 and was much more dramatic and emotional. While there is a little sadness with Mason’s past and a touch of baby daddy drama with Rachel’s ex-bf…all of the drama is resolved very quickly and tidily. Perhaps even a little more so than I would have liked. Despite that, I’d recommend this for a low stakes, low smut, “warm and gentle” read.
Suite Spot drops March 8. Thanks @netgalley and @stmartinspress for the ARC.
Smut- 1.8 stars
Romance- 4 stars
Story- 4.1 stars
Not naming this book “The Suit Spot”- 105 stars
As soon as I saw that Trish Doller was adding another installment to the Beck sisters, I knew I had to read it! I loved Float Plan so much. It is not necessary to read book 1 to follow The Suite Spot. I normally don't care for the sunshine/grump trope but this is such a sweet story that pulled at my heart strings! Rachel's character is so likeable and Mason started to grow on me, too! And oh my goodness, little Maisie was so entertaining and I couldn't stop smiling while reading her scenes.
This was such a heartwarming story (once we get past the assault in the beginning) and I highly recommend it!
The Suite Spot reminds me of a chocolate chip cookie right out of the oven: warm, sweet, and gooey. It is a driver of body positivity, too.
I recommend it to any reader who needs a feel good story.
Thank you SMP and NetGalley for the advance copy.
3.5 ⭐️ While this is a sequel to Float Plan, do not expect Float Plan. This is the story of Anna's sister Rachel. Anna and Keane make an appearance, but this is not their story. This is just a really sweet love story. Nothing really happens except for two people falling in love. Thank you to Netgalley and the publisher for an advanced copy in exchange for my honest review.
In the acknowledgements section of The Suite Spot, Trish Doller states that in writing this book, she wanted to tell a story that was "warm and gentle." And I can think of no better way to describe this book. It's like a cozy blanket over your shoulders and a mug of hot cocoa (with extra marshmallows, of course) warming your hands as you sit in an oversized armchair in front of a roaring fire. It's a wonderful grumpy meets sunshine, friends to lovers romance with a slow burn and low angst. There is conflict, but it is nothing that sets your nerves on edge. There is an adorable toddler, a demon cat, a bunch of charming supporting characters, and a lot of talk about beer.
This is the second book in the Beck Sisters series, but you don't necessarily need to have read the first book, Float Plan, before reading this one (though you'll want to read it at some point because it's really good). Doller gives you just enough information from book one to know who the major players are, but doesn't fall prey to the exposition dump that some authors force on the reader when writing subsequent books in a series.
One thing I loved about this book, and I hope it becomes a trend in the romance industry, is that our heroine, Rachel, is plus-sized but there isn't a big deal made of it. It's referenced a couple of times here and there, but it's not a major plot point. It just is what it is. As a larger woman myself, I appreciate the plus-sized love that we're seeing pop up lately, but I also appreciate it when it's just background information and not a big deal.
And I know we're now out of Beck sisters to write about, but I'd love for Doller to come up with more stories surrounding these characters and their friends. One can only hope. 😊
Thank you to NetGalley and St. Martin's Griffin for providing a copy of this book in exchange for an honest review.
tw: sexual harassment, death of a child
tr: slow burn, workplace romance, small town romance
rep: Japanese-American hero
Boy am I glad that Trish Doller decided to write adult romance.
Float Plan remains undefeated as Lisa's favourite Trish book (a bit hard to dethrone Keane Sullivan in my heart ok? tho I do have a feeling Eamon would), but The Suite Spot is no less awesome.
I love how the feelings between Rachel and Mason developed ever so subtly as they spent time together getting the hotel ready for opening, and I also love how they make a solid team, just like Anna and Keane. I also adore Mason's interactions with Rachel's daughter, Maisie. This book didn't make me cry as much as its predecessor did, but there's definitely many emotional moments, especially towards the end.
I also love small town romances because everybody looks out for each other and is nosy about each other's business in a hilarious way. Would 100% join Hooked on Books myself for the goss update and karaoke.
EAMON'S BOOK NEXT!!!!
I adored The Float Plan. I was so excited to see what was in store for this book. The Suite Spot just didn’t do it for me. I felt in the previous book there was such a flow to Anna and Keane. I could feel their story, their sow burn chemistry, and it was believable. Now Trish writes shorter books. I think the Suite Spot would have been better if it was mongers. I felt parts dragged on, parts went way too fast. I had to go back and read parts again because I didn’t notice it had jumped scenes and time. It just was not as good. I wanted more time to believe the relationship with Rachel and Mason. The conflict at the end came on suddenly and ended so fast with Brian. The pacing was just off for what the story was giving me. It has so much potential but regrettably didn’t hit the mark. I do think Mason sounds like the perfect book boyfriend, but I still feel like I don’t know him that well even after finishing the book.
Float Plan had me crying within 5 minutes, so I was fully expecting the next book in the series to emotionally wreck me - but it was like a big, warm hug. This romance/women's fiction crossover is still a heartfelt read, but it's much lighter and more uplifting. The short length allowed me to binge it in one sitting, and I enjoyed it the whole way through. I really liked it. I would've considered a 5-star rating, but this didn't delve as deep as I was hoping; there are a few elements of the story that felt a little glossed over. This is an instance where I think another 50-100 pages would've packed an emotional punch and made this a truly memorable read, but it was still very solid and I liked it quite a bit.
The story follows Rachel, a single mom who isn't overly happy with any part of her life. She's got a decent job, a daughter she loves, and a baby daddy who has been stringing her along for years. So when one of the wealthy patrons of the hotel she works at sexually assaults her (kisses her without permission), and she ends up being the one to take the blame, Rachel is forced to reassess every part of her life. She takes a job out of state at an up-and-coming boutique hotel... only to realize that her mysterious new boss lied to her. Mason's woodsy resort is still under construction, and Rachel and her daughter will be moving into his home while they work on the design together. It's not at all what she expected, but as Rachel gets to know her broody boss better, she realizes that it might be exactly what they both needed.
I'd call this romance-focused women's fiction, because the love story is front and center, but it's just one of the elements. This is Rachel's story, told exclusively from her perspective, and she undergoes a personal journey along the way. I really loved Mason as a character and wanted as much of him as I could get - he's such a great guy with a heartbreaking backstory, and I loved the inclusion of Japanese culture and even the beer brewing. I honestly wouldn't have minded another 50-100 pages of just Mason and Rachel, lol. Their love story was really laidback and easygoing actually, and I loved that the conflict at the end revolved around something that had really bugged me earlier in the book. This potentially triggering story somehow had a lighthearted feel, and that made it a bright, swoony read. It ended up being a strong 4/low 5-star read for me, and I'm definitely looking forward to more from the author. I received an early copy and am voluntarily leaving a review of this slow burn, rustic romance.
