Rachel Beck is a single mom still living at home with her mother. She is the night manager at a luxury hotel in Miami Beach, but suddenly finds herself fired for something she didn’t do. On a sudden impulse, she takes a job at a brewery hotel on an island in Lake Erie called Kelleys Island. Once she gets to Kelleys Island, she meets the owner, Mason, who knows how to brew the beer but nothing about running a hotel. She comes to help build the hotel but ends up rebuilding her own life while she’s at it.
Trish Doller has done it again! Float Plan was one of my favorite reads of 2021 and I was so delighted to get an advanced copy of this book! Trish has such a beautiful way of telling stories. I fell in love with these characters immediately and had a hard time putting the book down. There is so much depth with her characters and I love the growth that they go through. I felt fully invested. This was such a sweet story and I actually enjoyed it a tad more than the first installment, Float Plan. Sweet, sentimental, heartfelt, grumpy vs sunshine contemporary romance!
Thank you to NetGalley and St. Martin’s Press for the advanced copy in exchange for an honest review!
Such a cute story about motherly love and finding one’s place. Add in an unexpected romance and this book got real exciting!
Trish Doller again transports us, this time to a small island town in Ohio. After an unfortunate sexual assault leading to her being fired, single mom Rachel decides to leave her comfortable Florida life behind to manage A hotel/brewery with its owner, gruff and handsome Mason. The small island life is transformative for Rachel and brings her closer to Liam. Trish Doller’s writing is so smooth, tugging at your heartstrings and rooting for her characters. Another wonderful story!
The story feels like a warm hug (Something that is much needed right now). It's a cozy, feel-good story where change can be a good thing. I loved Floatplan, so obviously I was excited to see another book by Trish Doller, and it did not disappoint!
After losing a job she loved, Rachel and her daughter Maisie move to an island in Ohio to start a new hotel with the gruff, somewhat unsociable Mason. Ideal job - not so ideal location. The quiet island provides a different pace of living, and not everything goes according to plan. But as both Rachel and Maisie quickly make friends and start to navigate their new life, maybe it is exactly where they need to be. A story about moving on in some ways, and opening yourself up to risk. There is depth to the characters that makes you fall in love with and root for them, and it is such a lovely world to get lost in for a bit. Definitely would recommend!
Thank you to NetGalley and the publishers for providing me with an advanced copy in exchange for an honest review. My opinions are all my own.
DNF @ 7%. I think mostly that it’s just this particular story isn’t for me, but I also was a little turned off by the way the heroine was describing her ex-partner, her daughter’s father. If we’d just gotten to see some of his behaviour ourselves, or if she’d talked about how unreliable he was in other ways, it might have been different, but she focuses on the fact that he’s a gamer, likes to spend his free time playing games (so?), that he’s “broke” and “useless.” I skipped forward and skimmed throughout the book and it seems it’s for other reasons that he’s not a great partner, but I didn’t really like that introduction to her character.
Float Plan was one of my favorite reads of 2021, so I was on pins and needles excited to get my hands on her follow-up. Boy oh boy did she bring it. This book already had me with the precocious kid and the ornery cat, but then you throw in an absolute cinnamon roll of a hero and all the renovation my HGTV-loving heart desires, and I was all in. Trish is SO good at building worlds for her characters to play in, and I loved that in Suite Spot, she got to give us a big cast of quirky, fun characters to support Rachel and Mason. I can't WAIT for her next installment in this series!
The past couple of years have been challenging, but thanks to Trish Doller, I sailed away to the Caribbean in 2021, and this year, I was whisked away to a quaint island on Lake Erie. Books really are a great escape.
Good characters make a good story. I loved the characters in The Suite Spot. Rachel was a bit down on her luck, but she was a go-getter, a single mother who wanted to do the best for her and her daughter. While she had a history of settling for “good enough” when it came to romantic partners, she deserved so much more than just settling. I was on Team Rachel from the get-go, she deserved to find her slice of happiness, both professionally and romantically. When she decided to take the opportunity to manage a new hotel, she moved from Florida to Ohio to pave a new beginning for her and her daughter Maisie.
Now, Mason Brown…He was a character that I thoroughly enjoyed. Yes, he was standoffish and guarded, but he had his reasons. Trying to get his brewery and hotel up and running was a top priority for him, and Rachel had all of the knowledge in hospitality that he was looking for. Together they made a great team. I wanted nothing more than for Rachel to be able to chip away at all of his reservations. And a man who is good with children? Sigh. He was the full package.
As a big fan of slow-burning romances, in my opinion, this one was done just right. I felt every ounce of anticipation and buildup between the characters. I am a patient reader who loves having the scene set, getting acquainted with the characters and their individual histories, and just waiting for that perfect moment when they succumb to their feelings.
The author drew me in to the setting of this book. I could visualize everything as if I were right there with the characters. I loved the close-knit community that the island had, the interesting residents, and the whole overall vibe.
The Suite Spot was just what I was in the mood for. Having read Float Plan, I already knew that I was in for a treat. This novel had all of the emotion, humor, heart, anticipation, and romance that I want in a book in this genre. I am already looking forward to my next vacation with Trish Doller!
*4.5 Stars
LOVELY! I was a huge fan of Float Plan and I was thrilled to receive this arc! (I especially loved the little mentions of characters from Float plan!) The Suite Spot was a delightfully story of taking chances, starting over and overcoming those dark clouds life sometimes throws at us. I really enjoyed this and will be purchasing a physical copy for my shelf.
After reading Float Plan, I checked Netgalley and was so excited to see the second in the Beck Sisters series was available to request - and even more excited when I was approved. I knew next to nothing about Float Plan and it delighted me in the best ways, and it’s the same with The Suite Spot.
Rachel is a single mom to Maisie, working at a luxury hotel in Florida and living in her childhood home with her mom. When she refuses the sexual advances of a wealthy guest, he then claims she was the aggressor and subsequently gets her fired. Maisie’s dad is barely in the picture, flaky at best, so when an opportunity arises for a hospitality job on Kelleys Island in Ohio, she packs up their lives and takes it.
After his marriage falls apart, Mason is left to pick up the pieces of his life and especially his project - a brewery hotel - which is in the very early stages. He hires Rachel and quickly realizes that her vision for the hotel is just a fraction of the reason she becomes important to him.
I loved this sweet love story, with its beautiful backdrop (I’ve lived in Ohio all of my life and visited Kelleys Island almost 15 years ago) and friendly community setting. The characters were lovely and real and I found myself laughing at how relatable some of the moments of parenting a toddler were, having one myself.
I’ll definitely be recommending these books for anyone who is looking for a sweet, summery series!
What a fantastic book! I loved Float Plan, but I actually ended up loving this one even more! The dynamic between Rachel and Owen was great. This was just an absolute feel good story and a great pick me up! I cannot say enough good things about it and will recommend it to anyone who loved Float Plan. My favorite part of this book was the growth in a lot of relationships that we already saw in Float Plan.
The Suite Spot is the beautiful, charming, wholesome book I needed. This was comfort wrapped up in under 300 pages. I was swept away into Rachel and Masons story and truly fell in love with them as characters and as a couple. Rachel is a strong mother who is never afraid to put her daughter first while still having her own life. Mason is a tender soul who survived a loss no one should have to endure. As they found each other and slowly came together it was just that SQUEEE feeling of perfection for me!
I loved how diverse the families are and how the book celebrated their culture in a subtle way that I felt I learned something from. I absolutely loved Anna and Keane in the first book and was so happy to get a peek into their lives as well. There is so much I could say about all of the side characters as well. The supporting friendships that Rachel forms with the book club and especially Avery is the kind of friendship the world needs more of, fully supporting and loving. I highlighted so many sections of this book that I know I will revisit.
Last but not least I have to mention the hotel/brewery! I loved this setting so much and again felt like I was learning things throughout the book. It was so much fun to put together the designs in my head and picture the cabins and decorating choices! BRB I'm going thrift shopping! Ok how many times can I say love in this review?! I highly recommend both Float Plan and The Suite Spot
Thanks so much to Netgalley and St. Martin's Press for the advanced review copy. All opinions are honest and my own.
When reading The Float Plan, I didn’t like Rachel much, so I was a little trepidatious about reading a whole book about her. But I really enjoyed TFP, and wanted more by the author. My expectations were blown out of the park. Rachel worked really well as a main character, and I loved her and Masons relationship. Many times, I feel like the main male characters who have a dark past are grumpy and rude and closed books, so it was refreshing to get the kind and caring Mason who, while did take a moment to open up, we knew where he stood and didn’t push away the MC.
I also love representation of all kinds, so a plus sized female main, and a biracial male lead was wonderful to read about. And it was done well in talking about it, but not making it either of their personalities. They were people with these traits, and not just these traits personified, so I thought that was great in the writing.
My only two critiques are that I didn’t realize Mason was part Japanese until like a third into the book, so, while I was glad about the representation, I wish it would have been explained earlier, like when we met him. And I felt like it ended too abruptly. The last chapter was really short and didn’t really focus on our two leads until the last few sentences. It was a nice ending, but it could have maybe been longer.
But other than that, I had a great experience reading this. I actually enjoyed it more than The Float Plan which is extremely rare because I almost never choose the “sequel” over the first novel. I’m excited to be a Trish Doller fan now and can’t wait to see what comes next!
Single mom Rachel gets fired from her job at a luxury hotel in Miami. In need of a fresh start, she finds herself moving across the country and taking a management position at a brewery hotel in Ohio, where owner Mason needs more help than he let on.
This was a sweet romance with a fun setting on an island in Lake Erie. Both of our main characters are navigating their complicated pasts as Mason works through grief and getting over his broken marriage, while Rachel left behind her lazy ex boyfriend and daughter's father. I loved seeing Rachel bring her dreams and vision to life at the new wilderness brewery hotel, and appreciated seeing the pair take it slow from coworkers to friends to something more. I also appreciated the charming and supportive cast of characters from their little island.
I will say I didn't love the late drama and abrupt departure — I feel like it was over the top and could have been handled better.
Overall it's a heartwarming romance, and while it's second in a series, can be read as a standalone (though I loved Float Plan so please pick that one up!).
Thank you NetGalley and St. Martin's Press for my copy in exchange for an honest review.
Thanks to the publisher and Netgalley for the complimentary ARC. All opinions provided are my own.
In The Suite Spot Trish Doller offers another story that pivots around Second Chance After Loss.
In this case, MC Rachel Beck—hospitality expert & single mom—has decided to end her on & off again relationship with the man she has a child with to move to a remote island in Michigan. The other MC Mason Brown—a taciturn beer brewer / entrepreneur—is trying to figure out a path forward after losing his young daughter & his marriage as a result.
The Suite Spot is all about the slow changes each lead makes toward a bigger life: from picking out furniture & decor for the cabins & taproom Mason is about to open to accepting a book club invite & making new friendships to redecorating a den & sunroom & making new efforts with a grumpy cat.
Each change reinforces that Rachel & Mason have something to offer the other: a safe place, a home, a life that has the shine of potential again, and eventually, as the relationship between Rachel and Mason burns deeper—a family.
But despite these things, I felt largely unmoved by the book, which had an overall effect of being emotionally subdued to me. Maybe it was largely because of Rachel, who’s so matter-of-fact—even in her narration—that it was difficult for me to really emotionally connect with her.
So, with me feeling little excitement or zest powering the pages & setting off fireworks in my heart—despite the transformations taking place in the book The Suite Spot sadly didn’t make a huge impact on me.
Hopefully this one will work better for others 💙 💚 💙.
3 ⭐️. Release date: 03/08.
CWs: Previous death of child. She’s sexually assaulted at work & then fired after the perpetrator lies about what happened. Legal disagreement over daughter.

I loved Float Plan, so I was really excited to have the opportunity to read The Suite Spot. Overall I really enjoyed the book—I found it just as engaging as Float Plan, with well written characters and a pretty decent plot, but the pacing was really off for me. The romance between Rachel and Mason came together a lot faster than I expected, not quite insta-love but pretty close. I would have really liked that fleshed out a bit more. Plus the big conflict in the story just wrapped up so quickly and didn’t really feel like a satisfying resolution.
Overall still good!
This one was cute and I loved the main male character, Mason, as he was my usual book type of dark and broody with a cinnamon roll center! I feel that his back story was interesting and emotional as well.
One thing about this book that I LOVED was it’s reference to Lake Erie and all of my favorite summer spots! We spend lots of time at Cedar Point in the summer and frequent the cute little shops in Marblehead so it was fun to see a romance book take place there! I would love to hear the inspiration behind the setting and I really wish this brew cabin place existed!
The things I didn’t really like, the conflict with Brian, the dad was really rushed and easily settled. To be honest, I’m not sure it was necessary considering Mason had such a sad back story. I can’t even put my finger on it but something just didn’t catch and grab me like I wanted it to which is why I gave it 3⭐️.
Overall, A cute story and quick read!
The Suite Spot by Trish Doller is the second book in the contemporary romance Beck Sisters series. As with a lot of romance series the main characters have changed from those in the first book of the Beck Sisters series so each of the books can be read as a standalone if choosing to do so. There are a few mentions of the first book’s character’s though for those that have followed from the beginning.
Rachel Beck feels like she has been stuck in her life and not really getting anywhere. Rachel is a single mother of a beautiful little girl but still lives at home and keeps going back to a dead end relationship with her ex. When Rachel loses her job she does something impulsive and applies to one several states away.
After finding out she’s been offered the job on Kelleys Island in Lake Erie Rachel packs up her and her daughter’s things and heads north. After arriving at Kelleys Island Rachel finds that her new boss, Mason, is not what she was expecting but Rachel is determined to make the most of the fresh start for her and her daughter.
Going into The Suite Spot by Trish Doller I was a little concerned that I wouldn’t love it as much as the first book, Float Plan, as that one was sailing the Caribbean and I love to virtually travel. Well, my fear was needless as I quickly settled into The Suite Spot and found that I really enjoyed these main characters and their story too. There was still a new start for Rachel in a charming location and I’m totally a sucker for cute kids being involved too so I completely enjoyed this second book just as much as the first.
I received an advance copy from the publisher via NetGalley.
This was a very sweet contemporary romance. Because of the pandemic, Trish Doller set out to write something gentler and warm, and she accomplished that. Suite Spot is a comfort read with just enough conflict resolution to be realistic. I enjoyed getting to know her characters and watching them earn their happily ever after. Brava, Trish!
Thanks to St. Martin's and NetGalley for this eARC!
I liked this book so much, it was deeply sweet and cozy, which Trish Doller mentions in her Author's note was her goal in a difficult few years. Achieved!
I loved Rachel, Mason, and Maisie (Rachel's kiddo) and also truly enjoyed the HGTV vibes we get here. I want to be in the island's book club!! This book is also a fine standalone (I really liked Float Plan but most of it is lost to the sands of my pandemic brain, so you don't need to remember the first to like this one, though we do see the mains from that one here).
I was delighted reading about the first 90% of the book, but my only quibble is that the third act difficulty felt too abrupt, and Rachel's reaction to it felt very out of proportion. Also, I wanted a certain man from the beginning of the book to face CONSEQUENCES.
Overall though, people who like an I've moved to a small town and oops it looks like there's a hot man here romance will like this!
I really was excited about this one but I had no clue what the triggers were. It wasn't stated in the Netgalley description. When I go to the inside cover, to start the story, Trish stated the triggers and I cannot read about death of a child. Sorry! I've heard great things about this book though! :)
