Wow! Such a cute story, I had no idea that this story followed her previous book, The Float Plan! This book followed hersister, Rachel Beck as she tries to navigate her life after losing her job as the night concierge at a luxury Miami hotel. Rachel is a single mom to a beautiful little girl, and felt that she had some momentum building until a longtime client complained about her after she denied their advances.

Now, Rachel is unemployed and desperate for a new opportunity. When a friend shares that they know someone who is trying to get a small town hotel in Ohio going and is looking for a manager, Rachel hesitantly reaches out to them. She is not very excited about leaving everything she knows and uprooting her daughter. But what she learns along that journey will make everything she goes through worth it!!

Thank you NetGalley for this arc in exchange for an honest review!!

The Suite Spot by Trish Doller

Float Plan was an amazing book, I really loved it last year. So I had high hopes for this one! Unfortunately I did not enjoy it as much. I really liked the beginning but but the last third of the book I started to realize that there were quite a few things that weren’t sitting well with me.

This story follows Rachel, a single mom, who gets fired from her hotel manager position because a VIP guest harasses her. She finds an opportunity to manage a brand new hotel on a remote spot in Ohio, owned by the grumpy but intriguing Mason.

I love romances, but this one felt too convenient. It all just came together kind of awkwardly and the whole book was extremely predictable. The characters didn’t really have any chemistry.

I’m bummed I didn’t love it! But I hope I’m in the minority and I start to see some great reviews for it when it comes out in March. Thanks to @stmartinspress and @netgalley for my advanced copy.

I received an ARC of this book for an honest review. I am a fan of Doller's writing style-she paints a very detailed scene that I can always vividly picture. I really loved the slow-burn romance between the main characters, and how sensitive the author is to the topic of loss, however, the ending was so rushed it took away some of my enjoyment of the story.

The Suite Spot by Trish Doller is the second book in her popular Beck Sisters series, but can easily be read as a stand-alone book. This delightful story is about a woman who loses her job and has to start over in a new location with her three-year-old daughter.

Rachel Beck just lost her job at an upscale hotel in Ft. Lauderdale, for something she didn’t do. Unfair as it was, Rachel needs a job in order to support her daughter, Maisie, and herself. Masie’s father and her on-again, off-again boyfriend, Brian only visits Maisie when it’s convenient for him, and doesn’t pay child support due to his unemployment status. Frustrated because she’s been blackballed from most of the hotels in the St. Lauderdale area, she takes a job at a Brewery boutique hotel set on an island in Lake Erie, Ohio named Kelly’s Island. The remote location appeals to her, so she takes her daughter Maisey and moves to the Island.

Mason lives on Kelly’s Island and is building a hotel to go with his brewery. He’s more interested in beer brewing and his ex-wife was supposed to run the hotel. With no interest in the hotel, he decides to hire a hotel manager to help him get up and running. However, when Rachel arrives on the island, she realized that the hotel isn’t finished, and in fact has barely started. She eventually agrees to help Mason build and furnish the hotel and brewery and their close working relationship slowly turns into something more.

I enjoyed this story so much, I liked the setting especially. The island in Lake Erie and the wilderness were fun to read about. The romance between Mason and Rachel was a bit steamy and I was rooting for both of them to make it. They both have pasts they must deal with, and it’s not easy for them. I also enjoyed reading about the rehabilitation of the brewery, and cabins.

I highly recommend this book to anyone who loves a good romance. I received a complimentary copy of this book. The opinions expressed in this review are completely my own.

Trish Dollar’s first book, Float Plan, was my favorite book last year, which read like a virtual vacation with lovable characters, exotic locations, and an exciting romance. Maybe that’s why I had such high expectations for The Suite Spot. This second book was a delightful, albeit predictable, read with a hunky guy to swoon over. However, I just didn’t enjoy the brewery and parenting focus of this novel. I’m still a Trish Dollar fan and looking forward to her next book. Thank you to NetGalley and the publisher for the ARC!

I was initially drawn to the cute cover and even cuter blurb on this book. The Suite Spot was my first book by Trish Doller and I somehow didn't realize it was a book two (but don't fret - it didn't impact my enjoyment. It just made me wish I'd read The Float Plan first), the blurb just promised so much of my favorite stuff: grump/sunshine, a wilderness sort of setting, and a single parent storyline. It didn't disappoint on any of these premises and I really enjoyed my time spent between these pages.

I think I was especially delighted by the smart writing and the witty dialogue. There were moments where I found myself smiling so big as Mason and Rachel adorably opened their hearts to each other. Things moved pretty quickly between Rachel and Mason, but it didn't seem insta or like it was too fast. It pretty low angst, but it was tender and flirty and sweet and I reveled in the cuteness of it all.

I might have liked a little more edge from Mason whose grump was pretty tame, and I didn't really love the way the conflict played out (I felt like Rachel acted a little out of character and this bothered me for a few different reasons). But over all - I really loved them as individual characters and together. I had so much fun reading their story, they left my heart delighted and satisfied and I will definitely be back for more from this author.

Oh how I LOVED this book. I read Float Plan last year and enjoyed it. However, I loved this book even more. I will read anything Trish Doller writes. The Suite Spot had a great storyline. The different cultural ties and references added a lot to the story. My favorite part was watching the relationship develop between Mason, Rachel, and Maisie. I appreciated that Anna and Keane made an appearance. I will highly recommend this book to anyone wanting a fun, gentle, happy story. Thanks to NetGalley for the early read!

Here we have a realistic second chance love story that is relatable and genuine. I loved that the book was really more about a journey of self-discovery than the romance itself. I appreciate that the steam is kept to a minimum here since I don’t need all the details.

This is a sweet story and fast read. I’m looking forward to reading more by this author.

My thanks to NetGalley and St. Martin's Press for the opportunity to read and review this book.

Rachel works at a hotel in Florida and following a fabricated sexual assault accusation, she loses her job. She's single, living with her mom and her 4 year old daughter (that she had with her not great ex boyfriend) and now she's jobless too. In an effort to change her life for the better she applies for an accepts a job running a cabin style resort hotel in Ohio. She packs up her entire life and moves across the country for the job and when she gets there... well things aren't exactly like what she was promised. As she works alongside the owner Mason... things start to heat up between them. Complications with her ex and her new loves past threaten to tear everything apart though.

I have to start this review off by saying I loved Float Plan so I was very excited for this sequel featuring the lead in Float Plans Anna's sister. I enjoyed this story but not as much as Float Plan. I read the story in a day because it kept my interest and I liked all the main and side characters. For me though, the story was missing a bit of depth, the kind I loved in the first book. I'd still recommend reading this one if you were a fan of the first as it was great to see a bit more of Keane and Anna (though they aren't in it a ton) and to see more of Rachel's story. I also absolutely loved Mason and the community feel we were given throughout the story.

Read if you like:

Float Plan
Body positivity
Florida/ Ohio setting
Cabin and small town vibes
BEER!

It also only had the tiniest bit of spice.

TW: sexual assault, mentions of child death and suicide

Thank you for the opportunity to review this new novel.

3,5 stars

This was lovely but nothing compared to Float Plan, which I loved. This felt like a story that I've been given too many times and it didn't add anything new to it. It felt a little "meh" over the characters. They didn't grab my attention and wasn't interesting enough.

I'm not giving up on the author though and will read her next one :)

In Float Plan, we were briefly introduced to Rachel, Anna’s sister, but beyond the basics … being a single mom to Maisie, working at a hotel and living with their mother in Florida, we didn’t know much about her.

The Suite Spot starts as Rachel is feeling like she has lost everything. She gets fired from a job she loved at a fancy Miami hotel, and Maisie’s father lets her down again. When Rachel gets a lead on a position at a new start up boutique hotel, even the distance isn’t something she is turned off by, because she just feels like she needs a change.

Rachel packs up her life and along with Maisie heads to Kelley’s Island in Ohio, to run a new hotel owned by Mason Brown. But there is a catch once she arrives, and Rachel has to decide if she will stay, and rebuild her life or head back to the one she just ran from.

This book was cute, and loved learning more about Rachel and Maisie. Trish has such a way of writing I could imagine the hotel as they were building it, every detail. I immediately wanted to take a trip to Kelley’s Island in hopes something similar would be there. Although this book also deals a little bit with grief and loss, both the physical kind and the idea of a life you thought you may live, it wasn’t quite the same as Float Plan. I will say, I still have a special place for Anna and Keane so I was glad to get glimpses of them as they continued to sail.

Float Plan will still be my favorite for now, but I am still ready for book three and these characters to come back again. I cannot get enough of their families and these stories.

I absolutely love Float Plan so I was really excited to pick up The Suite Spot. It was a charming and entertaining novel, but it didn’t really stand out. I loved it while I was reading and the characters were cute and fun, but I don’t think it’s a book that will really stick with me long. With that said, I still really enjoyed it! Thank you netgalley for my free copy.

After being unfairly fired from her job, Rachel isn’t sure what she will do. When her friend recommends a hotel manager position, Rachel is nervous but after confirming it is ok she brings her four year old daughter, Rachel and Maisie take off for their new life. The job is a little more than Rachel was expecting, but the town quickly begins to feel like home, even if her boss Mason is a bit closed off.

I really enjoyed The Float Plan last year, so I was super excited to catch up with Anna’s family. Brian drove me absolutely insane, but Rachel and Maisie were just the sweetest characters. I loved the idea of the brewery hotel, and it was so fun to read about it coming together. And Mason naming beers after his favorite people…hello swoon! I will say I saw the hitch coming, but it didn’t take away from the story at all. I also really liked the definitions of words at each chapters start! If you loved Float Plan, you will love this one too!

The Suite Spot is a beautifully told, slow burn, and gentle romance story.

Rachel is a single mother who moves herself and her daughter to Kelleys Island, Ohio to manage a hotel/brewery -- only to find when she gets there that she basically has free reign to build it from the ground up. For Rachel, this is a dream come true. Just as with Float Plan, Trish Doller manages to make the technical side of her books (brewery/hotel/management for The Suite Spot and sailing specific information in Float Plan) completely accessible to any reader. I was just as interested in the creation of this fictional hotel as I was in the relationships that Rachel forms on Kelleys Island.

Unlike a lot of readers, I read The Suite Spot before I read Float Plan. (After finishing this ARC, I immediately read Float Plan!) Now I can say that readers who loved Float Plan will also love The Suite Spot. Both stories focus on an extremely self-sufficient and competent female main character. A lot of the pacing between the lovers is the same as in Float Plan, so there is first plenty of emotional baggage that each character has to unpack, before the falling in love happens. It's realistic and lovely to read.

If you enjoy:
stories about competent, brave women taking risks
wonderful single mother rep!
multi-generational, mother-daughter and sister relationship dynamics
found family, friendships, and romance
romance with a themes of grief and taking things slow
breweries and beer! (but also, zero interest in these things will be fine!)
slow burn romance, light on the descriptive steam.

Float Plan was a delight and I honestly just wanted to get more of Anna and Keane so I was excited to get approved for this one.

Here, I loved the balance between the bravery and insecurity of Rachel's character in uprooting her life to work at a brewery hotel across state lines. It felt real. Who wouldn't feel that way, right? Mason's quiet mysterious one is also a sight. So when they began working together, you can definitely tell that it's a start of something for the two of them.

Much of what happened in this book was told, rather than shown. I would've loved a more exploration of the development of the relationship between the main characters, how their feelings have truly grown. And also between Mason and Maisie since he was also nursing his own grief. The conflict and the ending also felt rushed.

All in all, this was an enjoyable read and I devoured this for just a day and a half. When I read the author's acknowledgments, I think she got what she wanted in me as a reader. I definitely felt comfort after I finished this.

Thank you to St. Martin's Press and NetGalley for my copy of this book in exchange for an honest review.

I loved Loved LOVED this book! The slow burn romance was amazing, painfully drawn out and perfectly executed. The big plot hole problem was a character flaw in the main character rather then an issue between the two romanced (is that a word? It is now.) characters and the resolution was…wait for….solid communication rather than luck?! Groundbreaking. Overall the communication between the two main-characters was #goals anyways, which I live for.

Throw in the fact that the two main-characters loved beer and breweries? Literally nothing else could make this book more up my alley. It was giving me The Simple Wild vibes…but if the characters were a bit more mature. Now, I haven’t read the first book in this series, but from what I can tell its like The Brown Sisters trilogy in that nothing has to be read in order. So I didn’t feel like I was missing anything.

My only complaint is that the main character was heavier, which isn’t a bad thing because we love diverse characters, but that was only a plot point to show that the character was self-conscious in her body. And it was only mentioned twice. I really wish the author had really leaned into as the characters body type. As it stands, it feels like it was thrown in there to add some representation but in the laziest way possible.

Thank you Netgalley and St. Martins Press for letting me read an eArc of this book in return for my honest thoughts. Pub Date: March 8th, 2022

I adored The Float Plan, so I was super excited to get to read an early copy of this one. Rachel and Maisie were so fun. I loved how this story featured a single mom and young daughter. I also really liked Mason. He had a lot to work through, and I enjoyed getting a glimpse into some of his healing. I did want some more moment between him and Rachel. I also thought the tension at the end could've been handled way different. It just went too fast and breezed through a serious life altering decision. It was fun to see where Anna and Keane were, to get a glimpse into what Rachel and Anna's mom is like, and to visualize the stunning hotel Rachel planned. This one is a great, quick read for those that love a bit of everything in their books.

I loved everything about this book. A quant charming setting, single parent, forced proximity, broody grumpy lead... it was just great! Doller delivers another stellar read landing herself on my auto buy author list for sure!

I loved Float Plan so I was excited to jump into Rachel's book. This was a cute and charming small town on an island romance. I enjoy small town romances because you get to know the characters in the community well and I really liked that Rachel found a family with the people on Kelleys Island. It was a big step for her to move away from her mother, living on her own and caring for her daughter on her own for the first time in her life. It takes a village to raise a child and this book definitely showed a village coming together to help Rachel and Maisie.

The downside to small town romances with a charming community is that I feel like sometimes too much time is spent exploring the other characters and not enough time is spent building depth to the romantic relationship between the hero and heroine. With this book, I wanted to see more scenes between Rachel and Mason and I was felt like the extra zing was missing between them.

If you're a fan of home improvement, interior design, beers/brewing, I think you'll really enjoy this one!

This was a great rom-com about taking a chance packing up your life for something new but taking a chance on love and what you can build with that and not letting it go when it looks like everything is going to fall apart. It had a cute premise with her leaving her life in Florida with her daughter to take a chance building a resort in Ohio and when she gets there realizes it is more like she has to start from scratch building this resort with her boss Mason who is getting over a divorce and the death of his daughter that contributed to his divorce. While building they fall in love and while there ends up being some conflict with her baby daddy trying to get joint custody in Florida everything works out and they open the resort and brewery with success. It was a good read and while I didn't know this was a series you didn't need to read the first book to understand what happens in this one.

Thanks to St. Martins Press and Netgalley for the complimentary copy of this book in e-book form. All opinions in this review are my own.
