After a nasty me-too moment with a guest, Rachel is forced to leave her beloved job at a luxury hotel. Tired of living with her mom and dealing with her daughter's dead-beat dad, Rachel accepts a job at an up-and-coming brewery hotel and moves from Florida to a very tiny island in Lake Erie.
I recently read and fell in love with Float Plan and was thrilled to be approved for an arc of the second book in The Beck Sisters series.
If you loved Float Plan as much as me, I need to warn you that Anna and Keane are not really present in this book. The story revolves solely around Anna's sister, Rachel, and her daughter, Maisie. I am going to cross my fingers that this series continues because I would really love to circle back to Anna and Keane and their travels.
In Float Plan, Rachel didn't seem to be all that likable of a character but she fully redeemed herself this time around. Hunky Mason, Rachel's new boss, was right up there with Keane. I would happily give either of them the highly coveted spot of book boyfriend.
This story was sugary sweet. I definitely liked it but I didn't love it. Maybe I read it too soon after reading Float Plan but Rachel's story arc felt way too similar to Anna's. The Suite Spot was equally as charming as Float Plan but it was missing some of the depth and complexity.
I really enjoyed Float Plan by Trish Doller so I was thrilled to read this sequel (which can be read as a stand alone) about Anna's sister Rachel. Rachel is searching for a change after losing her job and finds that change in a new job far from the Florida life she has known. Her new adventure takes Rachel and her daughter to an island in Lake Erie and introduces her to Mason, owner of a brewery and hotel. This is a sweet, loveable romance with self discovery and depth. I enjoyed reading it, and seeing Anna and Keane again briefly was an added bonus. Thank you netgalley for this arc in exchange for my honest opinion.
The Suite Spot by Trish Doller was a fun, witty and heart filled read. Rachel is willing to do whatever it takes to raise her daughter on her own and help her Mom out. She’s made an excellent name for herself at a prestigious Miami Beach hotel, but when she isn’t willing to cross the line with male guest, Rachel finds herself without a source of income. Desperate for a change and chance to change her own life’s trajectory, Rachel cautiously applies for a management position at a brewery hotel in Lake Erie. Suddenly, Miami beach Rachel is living in the midwest with her daughter and a grumpy, handsome man, Mason. Mason has a vision for the brewery hotel, but facing significant loss over the past several years, he has no idea how to bring his visions to life. Luckily, Rachel does. The friendships in The Suite Spot were incredibly developed. I loved the town of Kelleys Island and the love the locals had for one another. Trish Doller developed Rachel into a spectacular woman, one I’d love the chance to know and have coffee with. The Suite Spot was a journey, for Rachel to find her way and for Mason to turn things around, individually and deeply intertwined. I definitely recommend adding The Suite Spot to your Spring 2022 reading piles.
A sincere thank you to Netgalley and the publisher for an ARC in exchange for an honest review.
"The Suite Spot" is the second in the "Beck Sisters" series by Trish Doller. I haven't read the previous book, and didn't have any issues jumping right into the story and getting to know the characters. In this book, Rachel Beck is a single mom who is struggling to make ends meet. She's working full-time, living with her mom, and trying to get her ex-boyfriend to take interest in their child. When she's unfairly fired from her job, a friend contacts her about a new hotel opening several states away that interests her. Upon getting the job, she bravely relocates herself and her daughter miles away and begins to find out who she really is when she stands on her own two feet. And it doesn't hurt that the new hotel's owner is a handsome, single guy.
I really enjoyed the sweet romance between Rachel and Mason, and liked watching Rachel grow in her self-confidence. Thanks to NetGalley for the ARC. All opinions are my own.
I really enjoyed this adorable book about self discovery, second chance at love, and the journey of being a woman. It was the perfect mix of women’s fiction and romance. The characters & the plot were very realistic and raw. I enjoyed seeing Rachel’s journey & all the hardships she endured. & How in the mist of finding herself again, she discovers an unexpected love. Rachel grew as a woman, as a mother, & I was honestly so proud of her. After seeing everything Rachel was going through, it made me so happy to see her get her HEA.
It is definitely such a special read for me because at a point in my life, I was a single mother and I related a lot with Rachel. My emotions were all over the place, & that’s because of how special this was for me. Another thing I really loved & thought was very neat is that every chapter had a word in a different language with its definition, & each word had to do with that specific chapter. I absolutely recommend this, especially if you enjoy women’s fiction with relatable characters.
You can expect:
* Second Chance At Love
* Self Discovery
* Body Positivity
* Relatable Characters
* Mother Daughter Relationship
I loved this book! I enjoyed Float Plan so much, so I was excited to read Trish Doller's next book. This did not disappoint. Small town feel, romance, but wasn't too "fluffy" like some of other romance novels. I really enjoyed it!
Trish Doller states in her Acknowledgements for this book that "The Suite Spot might have turned out to be a different book" had 2020 not been the traumatic year it was, and had she not found herself "needing to tell a story that was warm and gentle."
I felt that in my BONES. This is a very gentle book. It has a touch of the angst requisite to the genre, sure; but there's no high drama. The development of the relationship between single-mom Rachel and divorcee Mason is quiet, natural, sans hijinks or tropes. As with FLOAT PLAN, Doller's attention to the specificity of her setting and her character's preoccupations are what made this book shine for me. In this case, it was an island community and the construction of a brewery + b&b, and I adored all the details about the different brews and the hospitality industry, from development of the suites to their interior decor. This is a great book to pick up if you enjoy everyone being very firmly adult. The conflicts herein are not miscommunication-based, and the solutions don't rest in a single conversation.
Overall, a sweet read that will have you rooting for its main characters . . . and wanting to run away to a forested island to drink beer and chill out for a week or 10.
Float Plan was one of my favorite reads in 2021 so I couldn’t wait to dive in to the next book in the Beck sisters series: The Suite Spot!
What I liked:
-foreign words with a definition at the beginning of each chapter. the wanderlust in me loved learning these new meanings
-portrayal of German heritage hit close to my heart as I too have an Oma and have traveled to Germany
-nice blend of romance mixed with contemporary and women’s fiction
-Rachel’s character showed a lot of strength
What I struggled with:
-some of the interactions bothered me (one instance is when Masons mother is telling Rachel about first coming to the US & Rachels response was “yikes.” 😬 it was a bit cringey to me
-sex scenes were a little awkward to read
-there wasn’t a lot of buildup with the main “conflict” towards the end. it seemed rushed as Rachel made a rash decision and then in no time everything was just fixed
While this one didn’t live up to my praises the way Float Plan did, I still enjoyed getting to further know the Beck sisters!
Thank you so much to Netgalley and St. Martin’s Press for the ARC in exchange for my honest review.
I loved this book. Trish Doller does an amazing job of crafting a love story, but with complex and broken characters with heart-wrenching backstories. I also appreciate the representation and inclusivity her characters have. Without giving too much away, I was pleasantly surprised that some characters from Float Plan also made an appearance. I loved every minute of this book and flew through it. Thank you to NetGalley for providing me with an advance release copy of this book in exchange for an honest review.
Rating: 4.5 Stars
After losing her job, Rachel got an offer she could not refuse, and an opportunity to begin again.
From the very beginning, I had a lot invested in seeing Rachel succeed. I was livid when she lost her job, but jumping for joy when she took a chance on the brewery hotel and took a step towards her future. When she found out her job would be a lot bigger than she initially anticipated, Rachel embraced the challenge, full-on, and it was incredible to see her in her element and shining brighter than the sun. I felt like the universe had punished Rachel enough, and this was her chance to show how amazing she was, to live her dream, and make the life she always imagined for herself and her daughter.
Mason was an interesting match for Rachel, but it was great the way she lit a fire in him. Mason was recently divorced and still reeling from a profound loss. He was known as the town grump, but Rachel was able to spread her sunshine and inspired Mason to finish what he started. They ended up making a wonderful pair, and it was so satisfying watching this relationship grow.
It wasn’t just about Rachel being good for Mason. They were good for each other. There was a conversation they had where Rachel questioned Mason about his “type”. She responded with something to the effect that her type was anyone who showed an interest. I can say I relate to that, but at the same time, it made me sad for her. Obviously, Mason’s interest being so genuine warmed my heart because Rachel was finally getting the love she deserved.
Though this book was lighter than Float Plan, it was still emotionally satisfying. I mean, it’s me, of course there were tears, but more happy than sad. It had just the right amount of heartbreak and drama while filling the rest of the space with so much warmth and joy.
The supporting characters also brought so much to the story. I had such a good time at book club, and Rachel’s daughter Maisie was adorable and sweet. Mason’s slowly developing relationship with her was especially moving. There was German food too! I don’t see a lot of nods to my heritage in the books I read, so it delighted me, and had me pulling up memories of my grandmother and aunt (the best cooks in my family).
Overall: I have enjoyed my time with the Beck family, and Rachel’s book is bound to leave you with a big smile and a full heart.
I absolutely loved this book so much!! I had so many emotions while reading this book and I read it in a day!!
Rachel is a single mother to her adorable little girl Maisie. Rachel works the night shift at a five star hotel in Florida, until she loses her job after a wealthy customer try’s to trap her in his room and force himself on her. When she tries to stick up for herself the customer files false charges and now she’s jobless. Not knowing what to do , the father of her daughter isn’t reliable and she lives with her mother, Rachel feels like the universe it out to get her she just can’t get ahead. When a friend offers her a job opportunity a hotel with a brewery together she feels like her luck maybe changing ,the only issue it’s in Ohio on a little island. Rachel packs up her car and with her little girl heads to Ohio. When she arrives she realizes her new boss Mason wasn’t quite honest. Nothing is ready the cabins need to be built and the brewery isn’t even ready. She decides to stay, Mason offers her the chance to have full control of the design, building, decorating and management of the cabins/hotel and he handles the beer. Mason is dealing with a lot he just went through a divorce and a huge loss, he is quite and just wants to focus on brewing beer. He’s sweet and when he finally opens up to Rachel she feels like this is a new beginning this maybe a new start for the both of them and what they may be looking for might be right in front of them! Five stars! This book does have romance, child loss and sexual assault along with body positivity. I absolutely loved Mason can you say new book boyfriend!! Also I loved Rachel was insecure about her body but learned she’s beautiful just the way she is!
I really enjoyed this story!
This is book 2 in the series and I didn't read book 1 (about Rachel's sister), but that didn't affect this reading.
When Rachel loses her job, she moves to OH from FL with her 3 yo daughter to take a new position to run a hotel, leaving everything she knows behind.
Mason is the hotel owner, but he wasn't honest with Rachel and the hotel is very behind.
I really liked the gentle writing style and the theme of healing throughout. Mason is not in a good place and Rachel is the balance he needs to propel him forward. For Rachel, helping Mason with the hotel and brewery project provides with the self-worth she needs.
The setting and secondary characters are great as well, and I'm looking forward to reading more in this series.
Some sexual content and language.
I received a copy from the publisher via NetGalley and this is my honest opinion.
Such an amazing story line with the perfect ending! I laughed, cried and fell in love! Will have to go back and read Trish’s other books. Highly recommend!
“The beer flows. The conversation flows. And I have no idea how to turn off the tap of feelings I have for this man.”
Oh my goodness. This was exactly the romance read I needed in 2022. Perfectly sweet, captivating, and gratifying, I lost myself in Kelleys Island, Ohio for a day. After reading Float Plan, I had high hopes for The Suite Spot, and Rachel and Mason’s story exceeded my expectations. They are a perfect fit, and I loved the cabin/taproom setting, fun community of Kelleys island, and the hard situations they had to overcome in life to find each other and their true home. Trish Doller has such a special way of writing romances that seem so “normal” and real - not too fanciful - but just right, so that readers can connect with a true, imperfect love story.
I was actually born outside of Cleveland and have been to Cedar’s Point and Sandusky, so it was fun to recognize the places mentioned in this story. I really appreciated this low-key setting after Anna and Keane sailed off in tropical paradise in book one.
In this book we get…
🍺Curvy rep for our female MC
🍺Single mom with a 4-year-old daughter
🍺A half-Japanese male MC
🍺Small-town setting in a brewery hotel
🍺A few glimpses of Anna and Keane
🍺More Beck family backstory
It is just a total winner of a book and you need to read it now.
“He answers with a kiss that walks a thin line between PG and PG-13. And leaves me a little breathless. ‘Hey,” Daniel says from the next rock over. ‘You two are supposed to be watching the fireworks.’ Mason grins at me. ‘Who says we’re not?’”
This was the first book I finished in 2022 and I’m so happy it was. Float plan was one of my favorite books of 2021 and so the follow up was a great way to start my year.
This heartwarming book is the second book in the Beck Sisters story, and we get to learn about Anna’s sister Rachel and her journey to find herself. Her journey starts in Ft Lauderdale Florida and takes her all the way to an island on a Great Lake in Ohio. While it’s completely different then her sister’s path to happiness, it is no less touching and inspirational. I loved all the characters in this book so much, I want to visit Kelleys Island and have a beer with them! Rachel’s story made my heart swell and I highly recommend this book for anyone who enjoys a rom com.
Thank you to NetGalley and St. Martin’s Press.
A decent romance with some deeper feelings involved. I liked the characters and i loved the setting. However, the chemistry wasn’t always spot-on for me. I will keep my eye on this author though. I think with different tropes and more compatible characters I could’ve loved it.
This made me smile! I loved the coziness of this book and it is a good light-hearted read. Four stars!
The Suite Spot is a cute romance following Rachel as she relocated with her young daughter to open a hotel on a island in Ohio. While the book was fairly predictable it was still an enjoyable read. I did think the dramatic climax was unrealistic due to a snap decision. But overall, I would recommend this book.
I picked this up not knowing that it was part of a series. But once I realized I was so excited to learn more about the Beck sisters. I absolutely loved this heartwarming closed door romance of a single mom who lives with her mother. When she is accused of something terrible at her job, she is fired. She finds out about a job opportunity in Ohio so she packs up her bags and moves there. When she arrives she realizes that the job is not quite a job yet. This book was so funny and quirky.. Definitely recommend.
I am really far behind in my updates. This ARC was pretty good! Less tragic than book one (Float Plan), but far from simple romance featuring legal woes, shared custody, child loss, grief, and workmates to romance. I liked the two protagonists but didn't feel their chemistry at a few key moments. Good solid read.
