This book was sweet, plain and simple. Rachel is looking to change her future after being unjustly fired from her job. Taking a cue from her sister Anna and her path to self discovery and love with Keane, Rachel takes a job in Ohio to help create a microbrewery hotel. With a community rallying around her and the boss to finish the hotel and acknowledge their feelings for each other, Rachel realizes friendship and love can exist in her life.
The story did touch on some more sensitive topics like child loss and sexual harassment, but overall this was just a really sweet Hallmark style novel. Thanks to NetGalley and the publisher for the arc.
An endearing and wholesome read. The relationship between our two main characters was so slow but so sweet, and the slow burn romance was just perfect. Absolutely enjoyed this title!
What a great, simple romance. This one is part of a series and while the first book's characters are referenced often this easily stands on its own. This romance has deeply wounded characters and their trauma is handled appropriately. I loved that this one didn't have drama just for a plot point. It was well written and well executed. Recommend this one for a quick weekend or getaway read!
I love Trish Doller and I really enjoyed Float Plan, so I was very excited to receive an ARC of The Suite Spot. This is the second book in the series and it focuses on Rachel Beck (the sister of Anna from Float Plan). Rachel is a single mother who decides to take a page out of her sister's book, and walk out of her disappointing life in the hopes that she will walk into something so much better.
Rachel moves herself and her daughter Maisie to Ohio to take a job working for Mason Brown. She assumes that she is going to be managing his new hotel/brewery, but when she arrives in Ohio she learns that the hotel is not quite ready to accept guests yet.
While Rachel does have her share of difficulties and insecurities, for the most part this was a sweet and optimistic story. I almost felt as though the connection between Rachel and Mason happened a bit too easily. I also got a bit hung up on the fact that everyone in town seemed more than happy to provide free babysitting for Maisie (does that even happen in real life?). This was a cute and enjoyable story, and Doller's writing is always top notch, but I can't help but compare it to Float Plan, and unfortunately it's not even close to being as good. I'm looking forward to the third installment, which will feature Keane's brother and Anna's friend Carla.
The Suite Spot was such a great read. If you loved Trish Doller’s last book Float Plan, you definitely need to add The Suite Spot to your list! Rachel Beck is a single mom working at a hotel trying to make ends meet. When she abruptly gets fired from her job, she applies to an up and coming Brewery Hotel in Ohio. There she meets Mason, the owner of the hotel and master brewer. I loved the setting of the book and how the reader got to follow Rachel and Mason’s journey of getting the hotel up and running. It was such a fun, unique setting that the reader got to tag along for! Really loved this one!
Author Trish Doller has written a delightful follow-up to the Float Plan. In The Suite Spot, we get to know Rachel and her daughter Maisie. After losing her job, Rachel takes a position on Kelleys Island in OH far away from FL, her mom, and Maisie's unreliable father and ex. Here she starts work for Mason who is in a very bad place after the death of his daughter and divorce. Together, Rachel and Mason build a resort and brewery while also building a relationship. I found this story very easy to read and the writing was comforting. The story is a slow burn which is great considering the emotional place we meet Mason in. I enjoyed the community on the Island and the detailed story setup. For fans of Trish Doller's book, The Float Plan, we even get to spend some time with Anna and Keane when Rachel travels back to Fl for a bit. I felt a few heart squeeze moments while Mason and Rachel were building their relationship, which I loved. Also, the majority of the drama comes from outside their personal relationship which was a nice storyline.
Thank you Netgalley and Forever for the earc. This is my honest review..
I love this book. It immediately became the new best friend I didn’t know I needed, and it lived up to that warm relationship consistently throughout the entire book. Every element Trish Dollar included in this story, two people who come together from lives that hurt them, renovating and building a resort (bringing in an HGTV-like fix in a romance story--supreme brain candy), a cluster of bright, supportive friends, and so casually and gently adding a dusting of progressive cultural references throughout-this book has become a highlight of the year for me in romance novels. As over the top cheesy as another reader might find them, I looked forward to the new word defined at the beginning of every chapter from an eclectic number of world languages, as in, Ailyak, Bulgarian, "the subtle art of doing everything calmly and without rushing, while enjoying the experience and life in general."
I'm going to work on incorporating ailyak into my life, because while I inhaled this book in less than 2 days, I completely and calmly enjoyed the experience. I will be adding other Trish Dollar books to my TBR!
Having enjoyed Float Plan, I was looking forward to the story of the other Beck sister but was surprised by how much I enjoyed this book, as in I stayed up wait to late reading it because I just couldn't put it down. The characters in this books are so good; I love a small town story with well developed characters. The love story at the core of the story is thoughtfully developed and felt real. And I really loved the building a hotel from scratch story line!
Rachel is a single mother, trying to take care of a 3 going on 4 year old, work a full time job, and somewhere in there find love. One night, Rachel is fired from her job after being sexually assaulted by a guest. The guest turned the tables and said it was Rachel who assaulted him. After trying another bad job at a motel she realizes that maybe she just needs to uproot everything and start over. And start over she does in Ohio with Mason and The Limestone, a brewery/hotel in need of a lot of love (and work).
Mason Brown is a grump mid-30s divorced man who is working through his own guarded issues and heartbreak after losing his 4yr old daughter and wife leaving him. Rachel and her daughter are what he needs to heal and move forward.
I never read the Float Plan and don't feel I need to. While some of the characters crossed over from the first book, it didn't affect this story. I thought it was a really fun, sweet, easy read. Perfect to devour in a weekend.
I received an ARC from NetGalley in exchange for my honest review.
The Suite Spot by Trish Doller follows Rachel Beck, the sister of Anna from Float Plan. While this is the second book in the Beck Sister series, I think it can be read as a stand alone (Float Plan is worth the read - I highly recommend!)
Rachel is the night manager for a boutique hotel in Miami. One night, a wealthy and frequent guest makes an inappropriate advance which Rachel declines. It turns into a he said-she said issue and Rachel loses her job. Rachel is a single mom and lives with her mom, so she knows she will be ok for awhile but the loss has thwarted her plans to progress in the field. Through a friend, Rachel gets a job lead for an upcoming boutique hotel and brewery. The only issue is that it is on an island in Ohio!
Mason is building a boutique hotel on Kelley's Island near Lake Erie. Not many people are willing to move to an island in the cold northern winters. Mason has a sad past and is difficult to read. Rachel's resume far exceeds what Mason needs, but he is desperate for the help.
The chemistry between the Rachel and Mason develops slowly while uncovering their past experiences. I enjoyed the scenery as well as the secondary characters. This was a quick and enjoyable read.
Thank you to NetGalley and St. Martins Griffin for a digital ARC of this book in exchange for my honest review.
This comes out in March but whatever I'm posting about it now lol. Since this doesn't come out until March, I won't say much.
A book about seizing the moment, trusting yourself, not backing down.
The opening to each chapter, loved this touch.
The way she writes speaks to my soul. I feel the words and story so deep. If you liked float plan, def check this one out.
TYSM for this gifted copy.
This book has been such a nice breathe if fresh air and is definitely one of those books that sometimes you just need. I’m saying that, I did thoroughly enjoy it and I really love the setup for the story. I’ve not read the float plan however it’s been on my tbr for quite a while and it definitely moved up on list!
*spoilers maybe*
I think my favorite part of the entire book was when Rachel arrived to find out that the hotel hadn’t even really been started despite what he had said and I think it was the most I guess electric part of the book.
Pros: love the atmosphere, the story around getting the hotel ready, seeing Mason rebuild faith in himself a little bit
Cons: there were a few parts that were just straightforward in a way that seemed a little cringe as it felt a tad abrasive, as much as I wanted to be thoroughly invested in Mason and Rachel’s story it felt like there was a little bit of a disconnect that could make it hard to invest yourself in what was happening but you do eventually get there it just felt like we were missing something to really bring that out to its full potential
Just finished reading “The Suite Spot” by Trish Doller. What a sweet feel good book. It was such an easy read and thoroughly enjoyable!
We were introduced to Rachel in “Float Plan” and this is a great story about second chance love. Single mom Rachel gets fired from her hotel management job and moves to Ohio where she meets Mason. Mason is a newly divorced man who recently lost his daughter and is in the process of opening a brew hotel.
They both learn to work together and navigate a new way of life and a beautiful relationship is born - with a bump or two along the way!
Another great feel good story!
One of my favorite books last year was Float Plan by Trish Doller. So when I saw that she not only had a new book out, but it was about Anna's sister, I had to have it. And it did not disappoint.
Last summer, I fell in love with Anna and Keane's story. This summer is for Rachel and Mason (and Maisie). Rachel is a single mother, trying to wrangle a 4 year old, work a full time job, and somewhere in there find love. One night, Rachel is fired from her lucrative job after being sexually assaulted by a guest and she realizes that maybe she just needs to uproot everything and start over. And start over she does in Ohio with Mason and The Limestone, a brewery/hotel in need of a lot of love (and work).
While I didn't love it as much as I loved Float Plan, I thought it was a really fun, sweet, easy read. Perfect to devour in a weekend.
I received an ARC from NetGalley in exchange for my honest review.
This book was just what I needed - a breath of fresh air and an escape into nature. To be honest, I hadn't read Float Plan and didn't even know this was a companion book going into it. So for a book like this to really shine on its own says a lot. Rachel had spunk and gorgeous interior design ideas, and I loved how she and Mason interacted. A craft beer maker? Love it! Her relationship with Maisie also really grew within the story and every Yokai moment made me squeal. I honestly just want to live in this book. Save me a cabin for the summer!
*Thank you to St. Martin's Griffin and NetGalley for the ARC in exchange for my honest review*
I would like to start this review off with a demand: if you have not read Float Plan by Trish Doller yet, you need to immediately get on that. It is easily in my top 5 books of 2021 so far. When I found out there was a second book coming out about Anna's sister, Rachel, I HAD to have it. I might have begged the people at St. Martin's Press to give me an early copy... and I was delighted that they listened.
Quick synopsis:
Rachel is a single mama who loses her job unexpectedly. She is fed up with living at her mom's house and dealing with her daughter's deadbeat dad for the last few years. She impulsively decides to up and move to Ohio to manage a brewery hotel run by "grumpy" Mason. They are both working through personal issues and connect while renovating the hotel.
While I binged this book in a couple of days and thought it was cute, it is not in the same league as Float Plan. I went in with the impression that it was enemies to lovers and it is definitely not. I really liked both Rachel and Mason, but did not feel the chemistry that I was hoping to feel. I loved Rachel's relationship with her daughter, but also was put off that she often left her with random strangers to babysit. This mama bear could not get past that. 🤷🏼♀️🤣 One aspect of the book that I really loved was all of the craft beer talk! I learned a lot about brewing beer and it definitely made me crave a good IPA. I also loved that our leading lady is plus-size. It was refreshing to not picture a supermodel in my head while reading. 🍻
I gave this one 3 stars, but have seen a lot of 5 star reviews. It comes out March 8th. ❤
I loved this fun new contemporary romance. It was swoon worthy and was very heartwarming to read about Rachel and her journey. I loved the setting and the secondary characters too. They added a lot to the book and made me laugh. I also loved Maisie and her role in the book. Pick this one up and don’t hesitate if you are looking for something sweet. TW : Mention of child loss prior to the novel and sexual harassment.
I have so many books on my TBR list - I have no business reading a Spring 2022 book so far in advance but I couldn't help myself! I loved this book! From page one to the end! The author said the crazy events of 2020 helped her decide to craft this book into a warm and gentle story, and I AM SO GLAD SHE DID! It was just what I needed for my reading life! I enjoyed so many facets of this book and I am recommending it to all of my friends!
Fun and easy to read
The righting flowed and the characters shared every day life issues that made your relate to the story
This was so cute and made me romanticize Ohio and beer which are two very unromantic things to me so that in itself is a major accomplishment.
This is a very soft and cute book without tons of major conflict which made it the perfect read! It does touch on some serious topics which made it feel real, but it's not a sad book. I am also a sucker for a small town book with quirky characters and this town has just that.
I loved Rachel and Mason as characters and loved them together. I loved that Rachel was able to shine in her new job and that her and Mason got to build something together.
My only critique is that Rachel's daughter didn't feel as developed as I like kids in romance to be and Rachel doesn't even discuss that she starts dating Mason with her which felt odd. I did like seeing her with her friend and felt that Mason's relationship with her could have been discussed a bit more.
Honestly this could have had another 50 pages to fully flesh out a few minor plot points, but it works as a short and quick read.
Also, Anna and Keane cameo and it is EXCELLENT.
TW: sexual harassment at work, death of a child (prior to novel, non POV character), grief
