As this is book 2 in a series, i put it to the side so i can read the first book and enjoy this one when i do.
Sweet follow up to Float Plan. This story was less sexy, more sweet that Float Plan. It was an enjoyable read, and I would read something else by the author.
This is the second book about the Beck sisters, and I am really enjoying this series. This was a flirty, cute story, with some depth to it. One of the things that I really liked about the first book was the range of emotions, the humanity of the characters, and the fact that while there was a happily ever after, it was not without some struggle. For me, while this one did hit many high notes, it lacked just of bit of the depth that the first one had. Rachel and Mason did have their share of baggage, but it felt a little like it was too easily resolved. Mason's past family history and Rachel's current parental challenges were present but were not as big of a challenge as I expected. That said, I loved Rachel, Mason, and all the side characters, and really enjoyed getting to see Anna and Keane again. They all felt like people, not caricatures, which was something I really love about this series. I do appreciate that with so much going on in the world, this was overall lighthearted and sweet. This series is definitely an automatic read for me.
Doller’s Float Plan was one of my favorite romance novels of 2021, so I was excited to read The Suite Spot, which is the story of Rachel, Anna’s sister. Rachel is a single mom working in hospitality, a job she loves, while stuck in a on again, off again relationship with her daughter’s father. When she experiences trouble at work, she is forced to make changes including moving to a small northern town to manage a boutique brewery and hotel on Kelleys Island in Lake Erie. Mason, the hotel’s owner is a handsome broody, man with quite a bit of baggage of his own. While the two work at renovating and decorating the hotel, they also reinvite their lives. This sweet story was an engaging read and while not as emotionally powerful as the Float Plan it was a very enjoyable romance and read. Highly recommend. 5 stars.
This was such a beautiful follow up to FLOAT PLAN! Rachel and Mason’s connection was compelling, and I adored them both so much. You won’t want to miss this one!
This was cute - I didn't like as much as the first, but a solid romance overall. I wish there was more romance, this one was light on the actual romantic elements IMO but it was a solid followup to the series. 3.5 rounded up.
After reading and loving Float Plan, I couldn't wait to get my hands on this book and it did not disappoint. We follow Anna's older sister, Rachel in this novel after she loses her job and decides to pack up her and her daughter's belongings and move to Ohio for another job. The characters are very endearing and you can't help but love everyone. I love this second chance at love story. Pick this book up if you're in the mood for a sweet, gentle rom com (there's even a book club!)
This was a fun audio and a great addition to the Beck Sisters series. Ultimately, I ended up enjoying Float Plan quite a bit more but The Suite Spot did hold my interest and was entertaining.
I liked the single mom aspect and the fact that Rachel wasn’t a stick figure (and also that her figure wasn’t constantly discussed or described). I also loved the Japanese aspect and how Japanese culture was woven in. The parts about the beer brewing and hotel development was unique and really fun and also felt well researched.
One thing I always love about Doller’s books is her representation. Mason, the lead male character, is Japanese and I love how Doller wove that fact in organically and not by outright telling us when describing us. But unfortunately, this theme didn’t carry out and Doller felt the need to go into details of the individuals’ identities when we met Mason’s family. In particular, I didn’t love the “angular” eye reference or the United Nations pun.
Mason and Rachel had a good connection but Mason’s wealth felt a little convenient and implausible. The child loss Mason experienced was incredibly sad but well written and a good addition to the plot.
Though this is technically second in the series and we see Ana a few times, you definitely do not need to have read Float Plan in order to enjoy The Suite Spot.
The audio was really well done and I enjoyed the narrator. Her voices and inflection were excellent and she really helped to create a great image of Rachel.
Overall this was an enjoyable read. I hope Doller goes back to allowing representation in her novels to happen organically without pushing it on us.
Thank you to St. Martins Press and NetGalley for a copy of this novel.
3.5 stars
I loved Float Plan last year, so this was one of my most anticipated reads of this year. The first part of the book was a little underwhelming for me, though, and that tainted my overall feelings for the book.
I did end up loving the relationship between Rachel and Mason, and the last half of the book was really good. I also really enjoyed the parts where Anna and Keane (from Float Plan) made an appearance.
Thank you to St Martin’s Griffin for an ARC in exchange for my honest review.
4.5⭐️! Such a cute, cozy, feel good read. This book had more depth than your typical rom-com, and I loved that it was so much more than a love story. There was personal growth, family relationships, career struggles, and so much more. I also loved the beer storyline! So unique & fun. I can’t wait to read more by Doller!
This is a sweet & charming story. Rachel is a single mother to Maisie who is living with her mom and working nights at a hotel in Florida. She is wrongfully fired and ends up taking a job and moving to Ohio to run a brew hotel. Mason is the owner of brewery and hotel and has been in a bad place in his personal life. He wasn't totally truthful about the hotel, but gives Rachel free reign in getting it up and running while he handles the brewery. As they get to know each other the find a sweet love with each other and a new home together.
I received an e-galley of this book in exchange for an honest review from NetGalley. I really enjoyed Trish Doller's previous novel, Float Plan, so I had high hopes for this one. The Suite Spot ended up being exactly what I had anticipated. In her acknowledgments, Doller said she was looking to write a warm and comforting book, and this is exactly what The Suite Spot is. Rachel and Mason are both likable characters, although I wish she delved more into Mason's backstory and developed his character more. In Doller's quest to write a comforting book, there is little conflict, While I appreciated this, the central obstacle in the book seemed a bit impractical and honestly rushed. It didn't bother me too much, but it's worth noting. Overall an enjoyable read. This would make a great palate cleanser in between heavier books.
⭐️⭐️⭐️: Did not wow me, but fully enjoyed it!
This was such a cute book, I don’t realize it was book 2 but it read so good without having read the first one.
The events that took place were predictable but it still had me squealing and the conflict at the end had me feeling all mad! But it was a nice refreshing book about second chances in life and really learning how to own your life.
I really enjoyed this one.
Float Plan by Trish Doller was one of my favorite books last year (I love books with themes of grief and resilience, especially when you know there’s going to be a HEA😍), so I was thrilled to read The Suite Spot, which is set in the same world. Rachel is sisters with Anna, the main character in Float Plan, but I believe you can read this as a stand-alone as they really only have cameos in each other’s books.
Rachel is a single mom who lives at home, is in an on-again, off-again relationship with her daughter’s dad, and seems to be both exhausted and under appreciated. She loses her job as a result of an awful situation and ends up deciding to move to Ohio to help manage the hotel side of a brewery/hotel on an island.
Enter Keane, the owner…. He has his own history of personal difficulties and reasons for being on this relatively remote and small island.
I really enjoyed their mutual journeys. Rachel had the time and space to rediscover her best self. It was great to watch her blossom. Their connection felt real as they both had to deal with their histories and life’s real complications. Themes of growth, connection, grieving, family, friends, and community combined with a slow romance was a winning combination for me. I’m looking forward to whatever comes next from this author. And I’m in love with the colors of the cover!
Thanks to the publisher and NetGalley for a copy of this book. All opinions are my own.
What a sweet book! This story is about a woman who has hit hard times and wants to make something of herself once and for all. By stepping out of her comfort zone she finds her worth and a whole lot more! I found myself smiling a lot while reading this. I loved the characters and the overall tone of this book. Nothing better than a feel good read and this was just that!
I enjoyed the second book in this series - I wonder if Trish will continue this with other characters since both of the sisters are boo'ed up now. I enjoyed this book, actually more than the first one (the first sister was sooooo annoying even grieving). I do want to hear from Japanese readers to see if the representation was good - I wish that we knew Mason was Japanese from the start, but I understand Trish not highlighting it from the lead's perspective because it could be that she didn't want to lean into stereotypes or assumptions. Lastly, I thought the ex-boyfriend storyline was super predictable and I kind of wish it wasn't there.
Overall - this was cute. Kinda of low expectations and I enjoyed it.
I really loved Float Plan last year so I was excited to read this second book in the series. This book is about Anna’s sister Rachel. Rachel is a single mother living in Florida. After she is fired from her job she surprisingly accepts an offer to work in Ohio. She thinks she is going to be working at a resort but once she arrives she learns it isn’t what was advertised. She still decides to stay and help Mason, the owner, get the property up and running. Her relationship progresses with Mason and she becomes a member of the community. While I liked this one I didn’t find it as poignant as Float Plan. The character development wasn’t as well done and there was just something a little bit lacking. I still enjoyed the book and would love to read more from this author.
As a huge fan of Float Plan, I was very excited to read The Suite Spot and it did not disappoint. Trish Doller clearly does her research before writing as the characters are so authentic that you feel like you know them which makes the reading experience so much more enticing! This romance story was just what I was seeking and let me dip my toe into traveling again -without leaving my house! Thank you, NetGalley and the publisher for this ARC. All thoughts and opinions are my own.
I love a good RomCom. Make it a trio of interconnected stories and I’m head over heels.
I was actually granted an ARC last summer for The Suite Spot, but never got to it. Summer ended and my summer reading schedule transitioned back to my IWorkAFullTimeJobAndCommuteTwoHoursADay schedule. The Suite Spot fell by the wayside.
Fast forward to early May - The Suite Spot became available on audio via my local library and Overdrive. And I binge-listened. Couldn’t get my hands on book 1, The Float Plan, fast enough. And binge-listened to it, too!
Cannot wait for book 3!!
