I enjoyed this book. I can’t actually say I loved it but didn’t hate it either . It was interesting with likeable characters and nice story overall . A romance that was well done overall
Book 2 in a series and I loved it just as much as book 1! Float Plan has a special place in my heart but this was a wonderful book in it’s own right. When I tell you I flew through this book, I mean I FLEW through the book! I loved every single minute of it and couldn’t put it down. The characters were amazing and I absolutely adored them. This was fun, original, and a spectacular love story. I cannot WAIT for book 3 in this series! 4.5 ⭐️
I really loved this book! The Suite Spot is the second book in the Beck Sisters series, but can easily be read as a stand-alone.
28-year-old Rachel Beck is a single mother who has an on-again/off-again relationship with her daughter’s father. After her career takes a direct hit, Rachel accepts a manager position at a hybrid hotel & brewery on Kelley’s Island, Ohio- a small town filled with good restaurants, book clubs, antique shops, and a fun cast of characters. Mason, the handsome owner of the hotel lives there with his cat Yokai. Rachel & Mason are both likeable, I loved seeing their relationship take its time. Similar to the first book, there is some grief and hard topics, but the author handles it well.
Float Plan is one of my favorite books, so I loved seeing Anna and Keagan’s life now and Rachel’s relationship with her daughter. I liked Float Plan slightly better, but both books are great! I would love to see the book series turned into a Netflix series!
Thank you NetGalley and St. Martin's Griffin Publishing for sending me an ARC!
This was an exceptionally cute book! Love the premise and the execution. The plot never hesitated. It wasn’t unnecessarily long and so the book flowed well. I did not read book one but that didn’t seem to be an issue and it felt like a standalone novel.
I received an ARC of this book from NetGalley in exchange for an honest review.
I enjoyed this book a lot. It's was a really fun book!
My Review: ⭐️⭐️⭐⭐/ 5 stars
Rachel is a single mom, working at a luxury Miami hotel as a night manager. She is happy with her life so far, except that her love life isn’t all that. She always picks the wrong guy. And she wishes she could move out of her mom’s house already. Suddenly her life is turned upside down when she is fired when a hotel guest gets a bit too handsy with her - and she accepts a new job as a manager of a hotel/brewery on a remote island in Lake Erie. What she quickly finds is her new boss, Mason, and a hotel property that still needs a lot of work to get started.
I love the grumpy/sunshine trope - and Mason/Rachel’s chemistry is immediate. The story is charming all the way through and I love that these characters already have a past. They lived real lives before finding each other at the right moment. There should be more spicy scenes though, considering it was ALMOST there, and then fades to black. Other than that, I loved this book! I never read the first book, but you definitely don’t need to read this one.
Thanks to St. Martin’s Press and NetGalley for the ARC in exchange for my honest review.
This was such a cute story with wholesome characters. I loved both of these characters and their chemistry! I had such a blast reading this romcom and it was so much fun. It was also such a quick and relatable read.
This is the second in the Beck Sisters series but it works fine as a stand-alone. There are some spoilers for the first book though, so if you plan on reading that one too you might want to go in order.
Rachel is a single mom, living with her mom and struggling to get anywhere with her career in hospitality. And, then she gets fired....for being sexually harassed by a rich guest.
While searching for jobs she comes across a management role at a boutique hotel on a remote island in Lake Erie. Her application is accepted, so she packs up her daughter and off they go. But when she gets there she discovers she's been pretty misled by the owner, Mason. There is no hotel...yet.
Mason and Rachel each have a lot of baggage they're working through, and I enjoyed each of them as individual characters and seeing their growth. I did really get hung up on the fact that Mason sort of catfished Rachel to get her out there though. That didn't sit well with me, and I found his justification pretty flimsy. The location and community was really lovely though, and I enjoyed that aspect of the book immensely. I just didn't really feel the chemistry between Mason and Rachel I must say.
The Suite Spot is the second in the Beck Sisters series, after Float Plan. Float Plan packed, unpacked, and packed my heart back up in a neat little happy bow and left me feeling all kinds of warm and fuzzy. Clearly, I had pretty high hopes for The Suite Spot following that.
I do have to say that I am still kind of struggling to decide if I should be rating this a 3 or 4 star. As I am still thinking of those adorable characters, I feel obligated to push it to 4 star, but there was A LOT left to be desired and needed from this book to be a full 4 star. I'm sure I rated this higher simply because I love love stories like this. However, I didn't feel the full blown fireworks between the two main characters that I felt in the last one, it felt more like a convenient and happy partnership. This book definitely had more of a story and journey to it rather than a beautiful love story. I do want to point out that Doller's characters are all heartfelt, relatable and likeable characters that feel a lot more 'real life' than most fiction novels feel.
Annndd the ending. That ending really, really left me needing and wanting more. I think I replayed it twice because I felt like I'd missed something because it couldn't possibly have just ended like that? But it did, and I needed more from it.
If you are, looking for a pleasant, feel good story, this book is for you. When Rachel loses her job, and is on the outs with the father of her daughter, Rachel realizes she has to make a move. From living with her mother, Rachel goes to Kelly’s Island, a remote spot, to manage a new hotel owned by Mason. Bringing her daughter Maisie along, Rachel begins to build new relationships and a new more fulfilling life. There is some mention of Rachel being plus sized and insecure, but I would have liked to read more about that.
THE SUITE SPOT by @trishdoller was a great follow up to FLOAT PLAN. While Float Plan follows Anna Beck through grief and finding herself and love again, The Suite Spot follows Rachel Beck, Anna’s sister, as she struggles with anxiety, picks up her life, and moves herself and her daughter several states away from her home. When Rachel loses her once loved job, anxiety takes hold. She decides to take Anna’s advice and jump out of her comfort zone of Florida and start a new life on Kelleys Island, Ohio finding a new job that sounds too good to be true: managing a hotel/cabin brewery. (I mean this sounds amazing to me!) When Rachel arrives, she finds that not much is done with the hotel/cabins and her boss, Mason, is a bit uptight and grumpy. Not to mention he avoided telling her the truth about the hotel portion not being complete. As she begins to help Mason build up the hotel, she begins rebuilding her life.
I loved following Rachel’s story- probably more than I loved Float Plan. This book is more than chicklit/romance. It tackles serious topics of sexual harassment, grief over a lost child, anxiety, single parents, custody issues, family, adult friendships. I felt the characters were well-developed and cared what happened to them all. It pulled me in early and kept me coming back for more. I also feel you could read this as a stand-alone but love the tie-in to Float Plan and revisiting Anna and Keane. The end wrapped up a little quicker than I wanted but I truly enjoyed this book.

The Suite Spot by Trish Doller was like a warm hug. I absolutely devoured this book, and I loved everything about it. It was a perfect mix of depth and lightness, and I felt that the main characters were written so vividly that I couldn't help falling in love with them. I really enjoyed the setting of this novel, as well, and the idea of the hotel being developed in the story.
I would certainly recommend this book, along with Float Plan, Trish Doller's first book in the Beck Sisters series.
Thank you so much to St. Martin's Press, NetGalley, and the Galley Match Program for the opportunity to read this title. This review is voluntary and all opinions are honest and my own.
I loved Float Plan by Trish Doller so much that when I got the opportunity to read The Suite Spot, I was very excited. And it didn't disappoint. I loved this book. I read it back in February, when I was in a mood where I wanted to read some feel-good romances where I could fall in love with the characters and their story. And I did fall in love with Rachel, who's a single mom to her adorable daughter, Maisie. And Mason, who is the owner of a hotel/brewery and in desperate need of help with his rustic hotel. Both Rachel and Mason are trying to pick up the pieces of their lives. The Suite Spot deals with serious issues, but the story isn't overwhelmed by the seriousness. It doesn't allow the sadness to overtake the hope and loveliness of the story.
When I picked it up, I couldn't stop reading. And when it was over, I felt the sadness of not being in Rachel and Mason's world anymore. I'm happy to say that Trish Doller has become an auto-buy author for me. If you need a break from the madness of this world, I highly recommend both Float Plan and The Suite Spot. They can be read as standalone books as well. Thank you so much to St. Martin's Griffin for my copy via NetGalley.
Doller does it again. Sweet and funny-the perfect combo to grab readers from page one. Doller has become an auto-buy for me!
I really loved FLOAT PLAN so I had pretty high hopes for THE SUITE SPOT. These books were both similar and different from each other and therefore perfect companions. I could spend this whole review comparing the two books and sisters but I'll try to keep it (mostly) about this one.
When Rachel is fired from her job at a fancy boutique hotel in Florida, she and her daughter Maisie aren't sure what's next. She receives a lead from a friend that a guy on a small Ohio island is looking for someone to run his brewery-centered hotel/glamping spot. When her "boyfriend" disappoints them once again, she decides to take the plunge and the job. Mason, the owner of the place, wasn't fully up front with her when he offered the job - the cabins aren't even built yet and the brewery is barely done. He's mourning the loss of a few things/people in his life too and remains pretty guarded around Rachel and Maisie.
I adored the small island setting AND brewery hotel storyline. I would 100% stay at a glamping resort like this one! Small town vibes are my favorite to read and this setting had the perfect little town of people to flesh that out. Maisie was super cute and Mason was an excellent love interest. I like how this series so far has been very heavy on the family feels and/or overcoming some kind of grief or loss - taking relationships and romance slowly after disappointment or heartbreak. These are the ultimate slow-burns that aren't fully romance books for that reason, IMO.
Aside from the slow-going, lovely romance, there are tons of family feels, diversity, and friendship. If I could complain about anything, it would be something spoilery at the end. I won't get into specifics but basically Rachel jumped to conclusions and made an impulsive decision without fully vetting out the options (IMO). I've read a few books like this where the main source of conflict or the black moment could be solved through a simple phone call or something equally easy.
Overall though, this companion series has been wonderful. I went into FLOAT PLAN with high expectations and no expectations at the same time, so my fully high expectations for THE SUITE SPOT made me nervous. The premise was right up my alley and luckily the lovable characters made it even better.
I was wondering if Trish Doller would be able to follow up Float Plan with an equally compelling and heartwarming story. I wonder no more because she absolutely did!
Getting unjustly fired from her job at a luxury hotel in Florida has Rachel Beck taking an honest look at her life. Her employment prospects are bleak, and it’s far past time she accept that the father of her four year old daughter is never going to get serious about her…or about being a father. So she takes a leap of faith and accepts a position with a new boutique hotel/brewery on an island in Lake Erie. However, when she gets to Kelley Island after driving for three days, she discovers the owner wasn’t completely forthcoming about the condition of the hotel side of his new business.
And that’s because Mason Brown is desperate. He’s a genius at creating craft brews, but in the wake of his divorce, he’s left without a partner to oversee the final stages of the construction of cabins that comprise the lodging at his hotel. Not wanting to lose his last chance to get things opened in time for the upcoming season, Mason talks Rachel into staying…for at least a couple weeks to see if they can work together.
Of course, the more time the ever-capable Rachel spends around the reticent, reclusive Mason, the more she finds a life that is more than what she ever thought she could have, both professionally and personally.
I love a book where two heartbroken people first become friends and work together towards a common goal, then fall in love. Rachel and Mason have some significant bruises from life, but watching them face them maturely, openly, and honestly with each other was delightful. The Suite Spot is filled with charming characters, heartwarming moments, and a wonderful balance of sweet and sorrowful situations.
I don’t know how Trish Doller does it, but she’s masterfully penned another book that makes me want to pick up and move to where The Suite Spot takes place so I can be friends with the characters in the story. I can't wait to read her next book!

Float Plan is one of my all time favorite books so The Suite Spot had some pretty big shoes to fill, and it did. I loved getting so see characters from the first book and I really enjoyed getting to see Rachel and Mason grow their relationship.
While you do not have to read the first book to understand this story, I did like having a bit of a background on the sisters. I have not read a ton of single parent romance but I loved Maisy and she added so much to the story. I cannot wait to read whatever Trish Doller writes in the future!!
Trigger warning: loss of a child
This was such a cute romcom! I loved The Float Plan so was really excited to read Trish Doller’s last release In the author’s note, she talks about wanting to write a book that sparks joy when it was during the height of covid and this book definitely sparked joy for me 🥰
Thank you @stmartinspress and @netgalley for the gifted eARC in exchange for an honest review 💓
This book gave me all of the summer camp vibes but add in a brewery! 🏕 Aka perfect book to add to your summer tbr. Rachel and Mason were very cute together - they had the most perfect pining, slow burn, work-on-yourself-to-be-able-to-be-in-a-relationship.
Read if you like:
❤️🔥 Slow burn
👧🏼 Single mom
👩❤️👨 Age gap
👩🏻💼Boss/employee relationship turning into more
🌶 Light spice
🤍 All in all a sweet romance that deals with something tougher things with CW/TW like custody arrangements and working through the permanent grief from the death of a child
I quickly fell in love with Trish Doller's writing with the Float Plan, so I was very excited to jump into Rachel story, While this book is a stand alone, if anyone likes completionist, this is about Anna, who we met in Float Plan, sister,
A fun and engaging story with a slow burn romance, there are so many feels and emotions in this book! I loved the concept of creating a brew hotel, and loved going through the design and creative process. Also! Definitely made me want to drink a beer!
Doller writes tension and angst well, and while the tone and writing style lends itself to a spicer read, this is a fade to black romance. There are two moments where there are more mild descriptions, but otherwise this is a fairly innocent read.
Overall I really enjoyed and I can't wait to see what she comes up with next!
Wow! What an amazing read with characters that jump out of the book and into your heart and a story that kept me totally immersed in all that was happening from beginning to end and I really wasn't ready for the book to end when I got to the last page. If you want to read women's fiction at its best, don't miss The Suite Spot by gifted author Trish Doller. I received an advance reader copy of this book from the publisher via NetGalley and am voluntarily leaving my review. I also purchased a copy to read again later.
